Sunpaw sat up with a fat squirrel in her jaws, a triumphant look in her eyes. Spotting Warblerpaw nearby, she gathered her mouse and squirrel up and hurried over to the other apprentice, setting her prey down before she spoke, “Look at the size of that mouse! Nice catch, Warblerpaw.” She mewed, eyeing the mouse he had caught. Sunpaw flicked her ear and looked around the garden, “Think we should check out the next garden? We can try catching something together there.” She suggested, not seeing any more prey in this yard.
Firepaw jumped down from the fence quietly and scented the air in search of prey. He was glad that he had already experienced hunting in Twolegplace at least once before, but Firepaw still wasn’t too confident in his hunting skills. He shook his head and started stalking after a fat bluejay pecking at some seeds near some bushes. He narrowed his eyes as he grew closer to it and paused for a moment before pouncing at it. Firepaw had misjudged the jump though and missed by a hair. He leaped into the air as the bird took off into the air and hooked his claws into it, bringing it back down to the ground and quickly snapping its neck. Firepaw lashed his tail in irritation, knowing that the catch had been sloppy. Giving a sharp shake of his head, the apprentice buried it quickly before moving off to search for more prey.

Fallpaw tracked the birds two gardens over where they were pecking at something in the ground. He smirked lightly and crouched on the fence post he was on. He kept his eyes trained on the Robin before leaping forward. His aim was good and he easily landed on it, killing it quickly. His first catch!
Coldpaw searched around a few bushes, trying to pick up the scent of prey. After a few moments she’s picked up the scent of a mouse. She dropped into a hunters crouch and crept her way towards the scent, seeing it scuffling under a bush. She darted forward quickly, hissing as she was a moment too late. The mouse darted away. Coldpaw quickly changed directions and snagged it before it could escape at the last moment. She killed it quickly with a short sigh. That hadn’t been too good.

Warblerpaw puffed his chest out at Sunpaw's compliment, giving a nod towards the squirrel at her paws. "Thanks! That squirrel there's great, it'll be perfect for the queens," he meowed. He nodded at her suggestion, leaping nimbly atop the fence and balancing on it.
"Yeah, let's try somewhere else," he meowed. "Maybe we'll get lucky and find a rabbit or something. I've never caught one before, but it shouldn't be too hard if it's fenced in, right?"

Buzzardfall flicked her ear lightly as she watched Firepaw make his catch. He managed to succeed, though she noted that his hesitation in his own abilities made his initial leap a bit sloppy. Even so, she had faith that he would warm up to the hunt.
Plumwillow smiled at Warblerpaw and Sunpaw’s ability to work well together. Buzzardfall was wise to pick her to be the other cat in Warblerpaw’s group. If they could work together, that would already pass one portion of the assessment.

Echowing slipped from the Warrior’s den, her eyes flickering once over to Dreamlily, who had not spoken one word to her. Even now, Dreamlily padded past her with nothing but a cold stare and a dismissive lash of her tail. Echowing gritted her teeth, trying not to feel a wave of sadness. Why couldn’t Dreamlily understand that this was better for them? How… how could she love Frostyfoot so much even after all his lies?
She growled, storming in the opposite direction of her sister to try and make the unpleasant feeling go away. The Dark Forest was right. Skyclan needed to be stronger. All of the Clans needed to be stronger, to weed out the lies and the traitors, like Frostyfoot and Opalmist. Yet, the talks of unifying the Clans… part of her hesitated. Skyclan was all she had known, yet it was the wretched code that ruined her life in the first place. Perhaps living without Starclan’s rule would free everyone. She thought to herself as she prepared for a border patrol.

Sunpaw gave the other apprentice a light shrug as she made her way over the fence that separated the two yards, “Maybe, unless it happens to have a burrow in the yard. But I’m sure with the two of us we can manage it!” She mewed, jumping up onto the fence. She paused as she surveyed the ground below her, wanting to make sure there was safe before she jumped down into the yard.
Firepaw caught the scent of a mouse, but had almost missed it due to the strange scent that was mingled in with it. He paused, flicking his ear in confusion as he scented the air again. Giving a shake of his head, Firepaw dropped into his hunter’s crouch and stalked after the mouse, quickly catching and adding it in with his bluejay.
Shadowmask joined Buzzardfall on the fence and watched as Coldpaw caught her mouse, shifting uncomfortably as she settled down. The catch had been sloppy, but she was sure Coldpaw would be able to make up for it later.
Mudwasp was grooming his fur on a ledge, glancing over at the warriors’ den when he spotted Echowing leave it. He paused in his grooming, watching as the other warrior stormed off in the opposite direction of her sister and gave a flick of his ear. He knew many in the clan was upset with Echowing and what she had done at the Gathering, but he was of the opinion that she had done the right thing. Frostyfoot and Opalmist had broken two codes, and they deserved the punishment they had received. Mudwasp stood up and made his way down from his perch before walking towards Echowing. “You alright? The Gathering was pretty intense last night.” He mewed, sitting down next to her.

Echowing turned around quickly when Mudwasp approached, her eyes flashing with a hint of cool suspicion as she huffed lightly. “I don’t regret what I did, if that’s what you’re asking. I don’t care what the other clans think either. If the code is what we have to live by, then I’ve made sure that I enforce it.” She mewed firmly, thinking that he was going to scold him like the others had.

Warblerpaw padded along the fence, following the perimeter of the garden Sunpaw had jumped down into. His sharp green eyes scanned the expanse of slightly overgrown grass, picking out any tiny details that could indicate the presence of prey. The shells of some nuts here, a cracked seed or two there. The opening of a burrow beneath a smaller, detached nest with an acrid scent coming from it.
A burrow!
He landed lightly in the grass, silently moving to Sunpaw's side. "Look," he whispered, angling his ears toward the shed.

Coldpaw tried to shake it off. Sometimes her blind eye made it hard for her to gauge depth of prey. She worked really hard to make up for it. She turned to move towards her brother who was a natural hunter. Fallpaw motioned towards a blackbird in the next yard. “I’ll sneak around the other side and you chase it to me.” Fallpaw whispered to his sister before slipping off.
Quickwing sat next to Plumwillow. “You tried your apprentice well.” She whispered to her friend.

Plumwillow nearly jumped with delight as Quickwing slipped into her hiding spot beside her. She quickly scooted over to give her room, her eyes glimmering with both pride and fluster. “Oh! Yeah, that- isn’t he great? He’s been the best apprentice a cat could ask for. Works hard, super easy to talk to. He’s already caught two pieces.” She purred, trying hard not to stare at Quickwing’s pretty eyes.
“I’m glad you uh… came with us. Extra eyes are best, you know? And… I wouldn’t have asked for anyone else to come with me. Us! Come with us!” She corrected sheepishly.

Quickwing pressed against Plumwillow since the hiding hole was tight. She felt her fur grow hot as Plumwillow spoke. “Ah I don’t know about that! I’m still working on training my first apprentice.” She stuttered. “Which, is going great I’m sure! Like, Basilpaw’s the most polite apprentice I can think of! I bet he gives you no trouble at all. Besides, you’re super talented and skilled, you’ve got so much to show him!” Plumwillow blurted out, before her fur warmed and she gave a nervous giggle, trying to keep quiet. “I really liked having training sessions together the past few moons. Even if Warblerpaw’s earning his name, I’ll be happy to help you with anything you wanna show him.”

Quickwing felt herself get nervous at the complements. She shuffled her paws slightly, staring at the ground. “T-thanks.” She spoke. “Though I don’t know about that. Like I said I’ve never trained an apprentice before so I’m not sure I’m good at it.” She shook her head. “Basilpaw is great though, he makes it easy.”

It’s alright. You’re being hard on yourself… but I understand it. I mean, I was a mess on the inside when Spiritstar called my name up to mentor her only kit. And I’m younger than you are, I thought I had heard wrong but. Once you get used to it, it’s one of the coolest things in the world, to be a mentor! Soon, you’ll be assessing Basilpaw, and he’ll make you feel so proud.” She purred, inwardly enamored by Quickwing’s slight nervousness. She was so brave and cool, but even she could be shy sometimes, and Plumwillow only liked her more because of it.

Sunpaw looked over to where Warblerpaw indicated and gave a nod when she spotted the burrow, “How should we play this out?” She whispered quietly to him, glancing back at him.
Firepaw watched his siblings stalk after a bird together before turning to follow the scent of another bird. Fallpaw and Coldpaw could handle it perfectly fine without him there to mess them up. He stalked after the dove that was pecking at ground, his crouch smoother than it had been the first couple of times.
“I don’t see why you would regret it.” Mudwasp said with a scoff, shaking his head. “They both had it coming. Frostyfoot and Opalmist both chose to betray their clans and the codes, so it’s only natural that they had to face the consequences.” He continued with a flick of his ear and looking at Echowing.

"Hmm..." Warblerpaw swiveled his gaze around the yard, searching for an idea. There was a small patch of sweet clover a few tail-lengths away, probably the last of the season. "Maybe...we could set some bait to lure whatever lives in there out?" he mused.

They deserved that and then some for what they put us through.” She rumbled bitterly, trying to ignore the sharp panic in her heart that her revenge had done nothing but allow her parents to be together without any rules, and had driven away her littermates.

Quickwing smiled lightly. Plumwillow seemed to know the right things to say to make her feel at ease. “Thanks.” She spoke. “That makes me feel better. I really hope to train Basilpaw well.” She looked back towards the apprentices. “You’re lucky to be able to train Spiritstar’s son. I’m sure Spiritstar thinks a lot of you.”
Fallpaw crept around to get into a good hiding spot. He waited for Coldpaw to chase the bird. Once Fallpaw was in position Coldpaw kept forward to scare the bird back towards Fallpaw. Fallpaw lept from the bush and easily caught the bird.

Any she-cat would be lucky to learn from her, to be a leader amongst all these huffy toms.” Plumwillow giggled, watching Warblerpaw again for a few minutes and taking note of his and Sunpaw’s notice of a burrow. She continued as she watched. “But you! You dove right into the water and saved her life! You inspire me too, you know.” She mewed, a hint of a fluster in her voice as she made the admission to her.

“That could work. Want me to set the bait then?” Sunpaw asked, nodding to the clover Warblerpaw had spotted. “Unless you would rather do it yourself. One of us could block the entrance to the burrow and chase it to the other, what do you think?” She suggested.
Firepaw caught his dove and joined Fallpaw and Coldpaw, “Should we check out the next twoleg nest?” He asked them, adding his dove to the rest of the prey he had caught.
“Hmph. Well everyone’s got their heads stuffed with cotton or something to think you did anything wrong.” Mudwasp said, giving his head a shake. “You did what you had to. Don’t let the others in the clan get you down for it.”

Warblerpaw thought for a moment before nodding to Sunpaw. "Why don't you set the bait then fall back? You're smaller, so your pawsteps won't vibrate as much. I can chase whatever comes out right into your paws, then."

“Alright. I’ll signal you when I’m ready.” Sunpaw mewed, quietly moving over to the clover. She started to carefully pluck the plant, trying to avoid getting her scent all over it. Gently picking the clover in her jaws and stalked over to the entrance of the burrow, placing the plant a few tail-lengths away from it. After placing the clover, Sunpaw fell back from the burrow and hid under the cover of some bushes. She looked over towards Warblerpaw and flicked her ear twice to signal that she was ready.
Mudwasp gave Echowing a nod, “Sure. My apprentice seems to be off somewhere else, so I have some free time.” He said, still irritated over the fact that his first apprentice was someone that was not much younger than him. He had no problem over her being an outsider who came to the clan, his own father having once being an outsider himself. Mudwasp had hoped to gain one of the kits in the nursery as his first apprentice, but he would have to make do with Pondpaw.

Warblerpaw nodded before he circled around to the opposite side of the yard from Sunpaw, eyes locked on the burrow's entrance. He waited, keeping his breath quiet and steady. Thunder rolled lowly in the distance, and after many long, long heartbeats, a small furry face appeared from beneath the shed. A young rabbit hopped forward, sniffing curiously at the clover.
As the rabbit became occupied, Warblerpaw crept between it and the shed with agonizing slowness. Finally, he jumped toward it with a hiss.

Quickwing nodded in agreement. “She’s a good leader.” She agreed. “I definatly look up to her.” She spoke before shuffling her paws in embarrassment. “I did what any other cat would have done.” She said sheepishly. “I didn’t even realize what I was doing until I was doing it.”
Fallpaw nodded. “I agree, let’s move on a bit.” He waved his tail to head towards the next group of twoleg nests.

Close by, Pheasantcry and Firefang were watching their apprentices as they worked through their assessments. Pheasantcry was pleased with Sunpaw and Warblerpaw's strategy and teamwork. They work well together. Cooperation is a key factor in becoming a good SkyClan warrior, she thought, continuing to watch and monitor their hunt.
Firefang crept along the top of a Twoleg fence and watched the group of apprentices. Fallpaw was doing well in the environment, and he was also working well with Coldpaw and Firepaw. Impressive. I just need to make sure nothing goes wrong here.

Sunpaw stayed very still as she waited for Warblerpaw to startle the rabbit towards her, making sure not to move as she waited for it to get closer. She pounced as soon as the rabbit was practically right in front of her, letting it run right into her claws. Sunpaw quickly killed the rabbit with a bite to the neck and sat up, holding the rabbit in her jaws.
Firepaw followed after Fallpaw, scenting the air for more prey. Scenting a squirrel, Firepaw signaled to Fallpaw and Coldpaw, nodding towards the prey as it scrabbled around on the ground at some seeds.

Both Fallpaw and Coldpaw moved to circle around the squirrel on opposite sides. That way they could trap it on 3 sides. They moved to get into position before waiting for Firepaw to make the move.
