"You didn't, don't worry," the older apprentice said. "Thanks for letting me know, really. Do you think they'll let me see her? Or do you think Spiderbite will pluck my whiskers out?" Warblerpaw joked lightly with Basilpaw. “I’m sure he’ll pitch a fit, but I doubt he’ll stop a son from checking in on his mother.” Basilpaw mewed, thinking of how nobody would be able to stop him if his mother had been the one in the medicine den. “The Clan’s calmed a bit by now, so you should be good.”

"All right," he meowed. Warblerpaw stood with a stretch but hesitated before leaving the den. "Sorry you had to see me like that earlier," he murmured. "The oldest apprentice shouldn't be acting like a kit."
Warblerpaw quickly swept from the den then, embarrassment warming his ears. He padded along the ledge carved into the cliffside that served as the path to the apprentices' den, casting his gaze around the camp.

Basilpaw watched the older tom go, jaws open to tell him that he wasn't acting like a kit, but Warblerpaw was already gone before he could get the words out. He sighed softly, wishing he was a bit more forward like Wingpaw could be. Even so, he had a feeling that things were going to be tense from here on out, with Warblerpaw and Emberpaw both so badly affected by what had happened.
"I-I'm so sorry..." Emberpaw whispered, having taken a while to finally muster up the courage to look at Spiritstar as soon as she was checked over. The leader's eyes were trained on her, gentle yet firm, though Emberpaw couldn't hold her gaze for more than a heartbeat. Her ears were flat as she swallowed. "It was stupid of me, I- I never wanted... I would never..." She tried to get her words out.
"What matters is that you are unharmed, Emberpaw. Yes. It was foolish of you to try and climb the peak, but I would give all of my lives for all of you, no matter the circumstance." Spiritstar assured, able to tell that the apprentice was shaken. She shook her head softly. "You know that I must punish you, though. Not because I feel you deserve it, but because I need you to understand that a Skyclan apprentice must be able to follow rules that are meant to keep you safe." She mewed. Looking out at the camp for a moment, she looked back at Emberpaw. "Your mentor will be having her kits sometime within these next two moons. Until then, you will be tasked with caring for her and all of the Queens in camp confinement. You will clean their nests, retrieve their prey, and assist the medicine cats in bringing them any herbs they need. Once Briarpatch's kits are born, I will assign you a mentor to complete your training once these two moons are over."
Emberpaw ducked her head, far too guilty and cowed to even think about how that could hold her back from receiving her name. If anything, she was surprised that Spiritstar hadn't banished her. She still felt awful about Spiritstar losing lives for her, so she nodded quickly. "I- I understand, Spiritstar."
Spiritstar sighed softly, before her voice grew gentler once more. "One day you and your sister will be Warriors, just as any other apprentice, and until then, you do not have to prove anything to anyone, especially to me. Ego and pride are as deadly as a snake's bite. It will rot you from the inside out. I hope you understand this, in time." She glanced back at the den entrance, able to see a shock of recognizable fur. She smiled softly, though her heart ached seeing her son approaching. She would have never wanted him to see what had happened.

Warblerpaw's pace quickened as he caught the shine of Spiritstar's eyes in the gloom of the medicine den. She's awake!
He made straight for her, leaning in to touch his nose to hers, forcing his fur to lie flat despite Emberpaw's close presence.
"You're awake," he breathed with relief. "How are you feeling? Has father visited?"

I already feel brand new.” She assured, genuinely meaning it. Even if losing lives had been stressful, reviving seemed to heal the broken bones from the fall. She mewed. “Everyone is back in camp, safe. That is what matters to me.”

Springpaw was talking quietly with Specklepaw and Twigpaw, gossiping about everything that had happened. Springpaw was doing most of the talking, Specklepaw and Twigpaw were simply nodding along, adding in a couple words here and there. Specklepaw's face looked dull and drawn in.
Shadespots sat rigidly outside of the camp on guard duty, her mind was still racing and whatever she did she couldn't get her fur to lay flat again.
Briarpatch got to her paws, wincing as a spasm shot through her belly. She brushed it off as a cramp from sitting still for too long. She took a few steps, taking in a sharp breath as another spasm ripped through her before dissipating. She sat back down quickly, waiting for another to come. It never did. Her anxiety died down slowly. The medicine cats were busy with Spiritstar and it was not time for the kits to come yet, the spasms were probably nothing.

Poppyclaw padded back towards camp, a small bird in his jaws. He seemed a bit frustrated at the meager prey, but any catch was still a catch for the Clan. He noticed Shadespots standing guard, though also her posture seemed incredibly tense. He regarded her with a small and formal hum as he passed by.
“Looks like Warblerpaw finally went to go see Spiritstar.” Wingpaw gave a blunt mew as he scampered up to the group of apprentices. Squeezing his way next to his sister, he sat at Specklepaw’s side and asked. “Think he’ll be okay? That’s got to be pretty tough.”
Withermist had his eyes trained on Briarpatch from across camp, head tilting slowly as he found himself inexplicably drawing his attention to her. He lifted his paw slowly as if patting his own belly, even though it was normal as usual. His claws extended, ever so slightly raking his fur, before he placed his paw back down and made a curious looking face for a moment. What an odd sensation. Odd indeed!

Firefang sat near the outskirts of camp, the normally easygoing tom looking anxiously towards the medicine cat den. As he watched Warblerpaw disappear into the den to see his mother, he wondered if she truly recovered from everything that had happened. The tom knew he wasn't going to forget what he saw easily.

"Good," Warblerpaw mewed firmly. "I-the Clan still needs you here!"
The apprentice nodded curtly once. "Let me get you prey?"

"You doing okay?" Buzzardfall approached Firefang with a hint of concern in her voice. Her fur was its usual unkempt mess, but she decided to ignore it in favor of making sure her clanmate was alright. "You and the patrol did a great job... but I'm also sorry that you had to see everything happen." She admitted, knowing that all the cats on the patrol had come back shaken up.
"I'll accept it, only because I know that you'll insist if I say no." Spiritstar mused fondly as she looked at her son. She always looked at him as if it was the first time she was laying eyes on him all over again. Even if he was her only kit, she thanked Starclan that she had the chance to have him. She assured. "The Clan will always have me, no matter what could happen."

Warblerpaw sighed with a little nod, relieved to have a task. He felt a little bashful under his mother's doting look, but padded quickly from the den regardless. He crossed quickly to the prey pile, choosing a pigeon for Spiritstar.
Pigeon in his jaws, he made it about halfway across the camp before letting out an irritated growl and turning back to the prey. He grabbed a mouse as well.
He returned to the medicine den, carefully setting the pigeon in front of his mother. "Eat," he said. "I think Spiderbite would have my tail if I didn't fetch you prey, anyways."
He then turned to Emberpaw, trying to keep his lip from curling - he restrained it to a twitch. He dropped the mouse unceremoniously at her paws. "You, too."
He wasn't about to forgive Emberpaw; the stunt she pulled was stupid and had quite literally killed his mother. But if he wanted to be strong like he'd declared to Robinstar...being dutiful was part of it.

Emberpaw stared at Warblerpaw, ears falling. He hated her, she could see it in his eyes. While she didn’t blame him at all, she also felt her belly curl. If she ate, she felt that she would be sick. She looked at the mouse and shook her head softly. “You deserve it more… or someone else. You don’t have to…” She trailed off, voice rattled.
“Save it for later, you must eat sooner or later. Emberpaw, you need not starve yourself for this.” Spiritstar offered, approving of her son’s dutiful nature, but able to tell that the young she-cat looked queasy at the prospect of prey. “Thank you, Warblerpaw. Sending the patrols out to fetch this prey from Twolegplace has worked well in our favor. I’ll have to have Whitesun send you on one soon.” She leaned down to take a bite of the pigeon, voice still a bit watery, but full of pride.
Emberpaw looked at the mouse, tucking it quietly to the side for later as she mewed quietly. “Thank you, Warblerpaw.”

((i only have warbler so I'm not much help haha >_< ) “Twolegplace can be dangerous, but Whitesun’s guidance of patrol leaders will assure that we will not have to go too far in. I would rather see you all back at camp safely.” Spiritstar mused, inwardly not much of a fan of going herself, but grateful that Skyclan had cats who were experienced with Twolegplace. “You get closer to Warriorhood each day, it’s passed by so quickly.” She mused, proud and a bit wistful.

"Yes, her injuries were..." Firefang trailed off with a wince. He recalled the fall, with Spiritstar's body falling limp into the river below, and flattened his ears. "Not good. It looks like she's fine now, though." he replied, hoping to reassure her. He grew serious for a moment, shuffling his paws close together. "I wouldn't wish what I saw - or what happened to her - on any cat."

“Seeing Goldfire fall during the great fire was bad enough to see. I… don’t think I would have been as level-headed as you all if I had seen Spiritstar falling. I’m sorry you had to see that.” Buzzardfall mused sadly, before she asked. “Was it true that Quickwing jumped into the water to save her?”

Firefang sighed at that, but was happy to change the subject to Quickwing. "Yes! She just... took off to pull her out of the water. It was incredible, and so brave. We really owe her one." he nodded. "I've never gone too close to water, and she went in without hesitation."

Shadespots snapped out of her daze as Poppyclaw padded by, she turned her head to watch him continue into camp a small frown on her face as he disappeared. She let out a sigh, shaking her head as her heart squeezed. Since when had Poppyclaw caught her attention like that? She faced the forest once more, a pang of loneliness seeping into her as she pictured Duskleap. She missed him more every day, only wished that he could see how much their kits have grown. Specklepaw pawed at Wingpaw's shoulder as she was jostled around in his settling down. "Sit still will you?" she grumbled lowly before looking toward the medicine cat den. "Warblerpaw's tough, it'll take a while but I think he'll be okay." Springpaw, looked at Wingpaw from around Twigpaw's shoulder, grinning at his arrival. "Hi Wingpaw! It would be so scary don't you think? To see your mom fall off a cliff like that? I don't think I would ever recover, even if my mom did have 9 lives. Well actually have many lives do you think Spiritstar had? Or I guess, now has? Do you think she ever lost a life before this? I guess we don't even know if she lost a life this time huh. Isn't it so strange-" Twigpaw smacked his paw into the back of Springpaw's head, growling quietly. "Do you ever shut up?"

"She just jumped right in? How brave!" Buzzardfall purred, looking a bit mooning as she imagined the she-cat diving into the water to save their leader. Quickwing was, after all, quite a talented Warrior, and not so bad looking either! Buzzardfall shook the thought away, looking at Firefang as she mused. "I'm just glad everyone's back."
"A mother always gets wistful at this time in their kits' lives." Spiritstar reminded, though she smiled once more as she looked at her son, before she mewed with a gentle hint to her voice. "I'm only sorry that you had to see any of that. I promise you, I am perfectly safe now, and that it could have been far worse for many more cats. So, in this case, we are lucky." She assured.
Poppyclaw placed down his prey, eyes seeking pointedly for Specklepaw. With all the activity in camp, he knew he needed to make sure that his apprentice was still on top of her training. He spotted the group of apprentices, giving them a few moments to talk.
Wingpaw puffed at Twigpaw, settling down beside his sister. "Hey, now! Those are valid questions, and I bet we're all thinking them!" Looking at Springpaw now, he chirped. "I don't know what I'd do if it was Shadespots up there. Spiritstar has lives to lose, but the rest of us only get one... but I bet it was pretty scary, I don't ever want to see that! I bet the medicine cats know how many she has left." He offered, inwardly unsure how many more lives their leader had.

"Okay, okay," he meowed. "I'm glad you're all right. Please let me or Dad know if you need anything, okay."
He cut his eyes to the side, where Emberpaw had yet to touch her mouse. Whatever.
He lifted his tail as he left the den. "I'll be going now, so rest up!"
Back in the camp, he blinked as the bright sun hit his face.

"Always the worrier." Spiritstar teased warmly, granting her son a good-bye before she sighed softly in her temporary nest, praying to Starclan to not have to ever experience falling again. After so many times... She turned to glance at Emberpaw, concerned at her lack of appetite, but opting to let the apprentice get some rest rather than question her.
Spotting Warblerpaw leaving the medicine den, Plumwillow padded up to her apprentice, looking both relieved and concerned. "Is she doing alright? Are you doing alright?" She asked quickly.

Warblerpaw pulled up short at his mentor's fast approach. "Plumwillow! Yes, she said she's all right, just tired," he said. "I'm...I will be fine."
He put on a relaxed expression, hoping to get put her at ease. Guilt gnawed at his belly as he thought of Robinstar agreeing to mentor him in the Dark Forest. He felt almost as if he was betraying his true mentor. Sorry, Plumwillow.
"It was...hard to see her like that," he admitted, knowing he owed Plumwillow something.
