"She just jumped right in? How brave!" Buzzardfall purred, looking a bit mooning as she imagined the she-cat diving into the water to save their leader. Quickwing was, after all, quite a talented Warrior, and not so bad looking either! Buzzardfall shook the thought away, looking at Firefang as she mused. "I'm just glad everyone's back." "A mother always gets wistful at this time in their kits' lives." Spiritstar reminded, though she smiled once more as she looked at her son, before she mewed with a gentle hint to her voice. "I'm only sorry that you had to see any of that. I promise you, I am perfectly safe now, and that it could have been far worse for many more cats. So, in this case, we are lucky." She assured. Poppyclaw placed down his prey, eyes seeking pointedly for Specklepaw. With all the activity in camp, he knew he needed to make sure that his apprentice was still on top of her training. He spotted the group of apprentices, giving them a few moments to talk. Wingpaw puffed at Twigpaw, settling down beside his sister. "Hey, now! Those are valid questions, and I bet we're all thinking them!" Looking at Springpaw now, he chirped. "I don't know what I'd do if it was Shadespots up there. Spiritstar has lives to lose, but the rest of us only get one... but I bet it was pretty scary, I don't ever want to see that! I bet the medicine cats know how many she has left." He offered, inwardly unsure how many more lives their leader had. "Me too," Firefang agreed, not seeming to notice Buzzardfall's enthusiastic admiration. "We would've been in a load of trouble without her jumping into action. I don't think I could've gotten my paws wet. But that's all said and done, and everyone can rest in camp now."

"You know what? Sure, let's do it," Warblerpaw agreed. "It's all right if we go away from camp, I trust Spiritstar's in good paws."
He began padding toward the camp entrance. "Where to, oh mentor of mine?" Warblerpaw slid easily into his usual nonchalance with Plumwillow.

She dipped her head to her friends before scampering over to her mentor curiously. "Are we going to train today?" Springpaw's brightened right back up after her momentary wilting as Wingpaw scolded her brother, nodding "I bet they do with their connection to Starclan right? What do you think happens to the lives the leaders lose? Do you think their's like a partial ghost of the leader in Starclan until they lose all their lives?" Twigpaw rolled his eyes, laying his head down as he listened to Springpaw and Wingpaw chatter away. His gaze searched the camp for Splashecho, wondering where his mother had gone off to.

"Where to, oh mentor of mine?" Warblerpaw slid easily into his usual nonchalance with Plumwillow. “With Lavendersky and Spiderbite, the best paws.” Plumwillow agreed, her usual spring in her step noticeable. She hummed for a long moment before she grinned. “Let’s do some hunting around the roots of the Sky Oak. Maybe we can see if there’s some mice making their nests.” She offered, inwardly not wanting to have Warblerpaw climb anything just yet.

I guess the last one is the first life she had, before she was leader. I don’t know, I’ve never seen a leader get their lives before. I bet we never will, but! I’ll just have to become leader one day and let you know!” Wingpaw smirked confidently, patient and just as interested in Springpaw’s questions.

"Okay," Warblerpaw agreed. He began padding from camp, the comfortable relationship he had with Plumwillow making it so it wasn't awkward to not follow behind her these days. "They might be more active now, too, since it's getting so warm."

"They might be more active now, too, since it's getting so warm." “I should hope so! After all, if prey is scarce still even now, Starclan knows how bad it will be next leafbare.” Plumwillow pouted at the thought, before she smiled. “Alright! You take the lead here, and see if you can catch a scent trail.” She decided, already knowing that he was more than capable of hunting and tracking without flaw at this point.

Warblerpaw quirked his mouth into a quick scowl where Plumwillow couldn't see. It had been a while since she had given him such a simple task...maybe she thought Spiritstar's...maybe she though he was fragile right now. He shook the though away. Focus.
He parted his jaws, easily detecting the thick, musky scent of mice wafting from ahead, where the Sky Oak lay. He raised his tail to signal a stop.
"Ahead. There's lots. I think they may have picked that spot for their nests for when they have their babies."

Plumwillow nodded silently, looking sharply towards the roots of the Sky Oak, already delighted by the thought of fresh prey. She flicked her ear and nodded to Warblerpaw. "Lead away. Soon, you'll be leading your own patrols, after all. Starclan, already almost a Warrior!" She purred, before quickly focusing back on the hunt, wanting to see what he would do.

Warblerpaw nodded, pride warming him as Plumwillow beamed. "Yeah, my mom said the same thing," he meowed. He tilted his head, indicating he'd sneak around the side so any mice that ran from him would go to her. He slid effortlessly into a hunter's crouch, paws skimming the forest floor noiselessly. His sharp eyes zeroed in on where the leaf litter twitched, ear swiveling for the tiny sounds of prey. He pulled in a breath, then leapt.
He landed cleanly with a mouse under each paw and one in his teeth, several more shooting out towards Plumwillow with frightened squeaks.

She giggled. “Well! That was successful!”

"Mmhmpf!" Warblerpaw nodded and grinned through a mouthful of fur. He dropped the mouse with the other two. "Wow, I caught three at once?" He blinked down at the prey for a moment before catching Plumwillow's eye, then turning his nose up toward the branches of the great oak towering above them. "I mean, um, I planned that!"

"Planned it, huh? Well, you've got quite the planning skills then! Your three versus my one, you're really showing me up." She teased, clearly proud and humored.

"Let's try and snag a squirrel if we can. The mice are a great start, but with Tricklefrost's kits here and so many more coming, we'll need all the prey we can get." Plumwillow nodded, before she seemed to brighten a bit and look at her apprentice with a light voice. "Have I been a good mentor for you? I ah... I know that you probably weren't expecting a Warrior as young as me to be mentoring you, but, it's really been the best honor of my life, so far." She admitted.

Utterly exhausted by the endeavors of the day and of the raw ache of guilt in her chest each time she looked at Spiritstar, Emberpaw tucked herself tightly in the corner of the medicine den, closing her eyes in an attempt to get some sleep. She inwardly hoped that her mother and father didn't come to see her again, knowing that she surely must have disappointed them. Above all, she missed Obsidianflower's calmness, she would have known exactly what to do and say to make everything feel okay.

He shook himself quickly, moving onto their next task. "Squirrels? Might be some a bit closer to the ThunderClan border if we want to look." As they padded along, every step made him feel heavier. You have been the best mentor, Plumwillow, he thought. But if I'm to do what I set out to do...I'm sorry.

Warblerpaw smiled back, forcing himself to shake off the guilt and worry clinging to him so he could just enjoy a hunt with Plumwillow. He really loved his mentor, and valued her lessons and the time they spent together.
He hadn't told her that enough.
"Lead the way," he meowed brightly in return. "You know, you really are a gifted mentor. I know it was probably weird for you, too; a fresh warrior suddenly given the leader's kit to train? But you're incredible, Plumwillow. I think you'll mentor some of the best warrior's SkyClan's seen. I mean..."
Warblerpaw stopped, puffing his chest out in a goofy gesture. "Just look at me."

Plumwillow kept on padding towards their destination, though she was surprisingly silent as Warblerpaw spoke. Her fur warmed at the praise, a hint of something deep beneath her bubbly and positive energy coming through in a soft sort of admission. “Lots of cats just kind of know that they’re meant for big things. They learn all kinds of wonderful things from their clanmates, their kin. Respected Warriors teaching their kits! You know, I never knew who my father was. Even now, mother won’t tell us. And I love her so much! But… when the conversation about him cuts off everytime, what else can I think but not so good thoughts? For a long time, I thought that meant whatever kind of cat my father was to never once have his name be told, well. That’s got to be about all I have in me for the Clan, right?” She glanced back at Warblerpaw, smiling through her long held admission. “So when Spiritstar trusted me with the thing she loved more than anything ever, because duh, that’s her kit, I was ready to fall over! She could have picked someone way older and more experienced or someone she trusted way more than me, but. She assigned me.” She hummed. “Yes. Look at you! Because you’ve done so much, with or without me, and that’s the point! But you’re the first thing that I’ve ever felt like I really made a difference for. And that? That’s the best!”

Hawkpaw padded towards the medicine den, wanting to see if Emberpaw had woken up yet. She perked her head into the entrance, not wanting to disturb anyone that could be resting. Seeing her sister awake, Hawkpaw pushed her way in, “Emberpaw?” She mewed.
Firepaw groomed his fur outside the apprentice’s den, wondering if Buzzardfall would be taking him out to train soon.

Warblerpaw was momentarily struck silent by Plumwillow's admission. If Plumwillow, such an open, energetic, and friendly cat had doubts like that, too; that maybe she couldn't be good enough? Well, that made him think again about Robinstar, and his conversations with her.
He smiled. "Plumwillow..." In a show of affection for his beloved mentor, he bumped his shoulder against hers. "I'm so glad my mother took a chance on you. There's no other cat I'd rather have taught me and made me into the cat I am. You've given so much to SkyClan, and to me, that any cat who doubts you because of some stupid tom will have to answer to me!"
He padded along comfortably at Plumwillow's side for a moment, speaking before his regrets came creeping back in. "Do you think we'll still go patrolling like this once I'm made a warrior?" he asked. He hoped so.

You can join any patrol you like if you’re not already assigned to one.” Plumwillow purred, nudging her apprentice back with her shoulder. His words struck her deeply, in a good way. “I’m not gonna disappear or anything, but, I’ll still wake you up super early if you sleep in, because we’ll be in the same den, so you best watch your back.” She teased.

“We are.” Poppyclaw nodded firmly, looking down at his apprentice with a muted approval at her quick readiness. He instructed. “Battle training. Specklepaw held back a sigh, not really in the mood to exert herself the way battle training usually did, but if anything she was respectful of her mentor and his strict nature. "Alright, I guess I'm ready then." she mewed with a quick stretch. "Anything special we'll be going over today?" Springpaw's chin lifted, "I'm older than you Wingpaw, if anyone's leader it's going to be me! Right now, I'd pick Flyingpaw as my deputy. So, if you want to be leader after me you gotta do some of my chores or something." she said, sticking her tongue out at the other tom. Twigpaw wrinkled his nose, getting to his paws, "I'm going to take a nap, I can't take either of you seriously." he grumbled before heading for his nest. He felt a small pang of envy though at the thought of his sister choosing their littermate as her deputy over him.

"Even the lazy, fat, kittypets have to wake up early so they can get fatter and lazier when the twolegs feed them." Plumwillow teased, looking at Warblerpaw with a small giggle as he groaned. She flicked her tail and offered. "I think you'll like the new freedoms. Gives you a chance to ask a special cat or two out on a special patrol." She winked playfully.
Poppyclaw gave his apprentice a calm yet slightly sharp look, before he relaxed and nodded quickly, already starting his way towards the camp entrance again. "A leaping back pummel. We're putting your legs and accuracy to work. You have to land perfectly in battle, when we depend on our leaps to give us the advantage." He drilled.
"Oh please, Starclan would give you a life of clumsy paws and feathers in your ears. Clearly, if anyone's going to be a leader, it's me, and my deputy's gonna be..." He cut off as Twigpaw grumbled and stormed away. The casual and mischievous tom gave a small snort, before looking and grinning at Springpaw again. "I was gonna say Twigpaw, but I think he just stepped down, guess I'm choosing Flyingpaw just so you can't have her." He stuck his tongue out back playfully.

But, I’m also alot to be around, so it might be a bit harder to find someone who can keep up with all this.” She admitted, before purring. “Firefang and Darkjay are handsome, but Blackfire is stunning too. Hawkpaw padded over to Emberpaw and curled up beside her, pressing her side against her sister comfortingly, “It’s not just your fault Emberpaw. We’re both to blame for our recklessness.” She mewed quietly, ears flattening against her head and eyes staring down at her paws.. “I… I was so scared I was going to lose you, and I didn’t want to leave you alone there. I’m sorry I left you alone, Emberpaw.” She whispered.
Firepaw stood up and gave a shrug of his shoulders, “It’s fine. What are we doing today?” He asked, ready to get out camp for awhile. The recent tension in the apprentice den had made things a bit uncomfortable and some time away would definitely be nice.
Frostlight was laying in a patch of sunlight, resting after a recent border patrol. Her eyes roamed around the camp lazily, wondering where Withermist had gone off to.
