“It’ll get easier, don’t worry,” Eaglenose assured him. “I remember my first time climbing, my father came on the patrol with me and my mentor - he climbed so fast and so high, it was amazing. As I watched him, I just knew that I would never be able to climb that well.” Eaglenose shook his head with a soft laugh, a feeling of nostalgia rising in him before he cleared his throat and shook it away. “Anyways, it always looks really daunting when you’re young. But by the time you’re a warrior, it will be second nature.” Ledgepaw listened to Eaglenose’s words, feeling both ease and yearning. He missed his own father, who had passed during the Great Fire, before he and his sisters had become apprentices. He could tell that Eaglenose missed his own father too. He nodded. “I believe you. I’ll keep trying, no matter what.” He sighed once. “If everything goes alright. I can’t believe Spiritstar is just… gone now.” Eaglenose nodded at Ledgepaw’s concerns. It was a weird, trying time right now. He let out a soft sigh. “I know. It’s a trying time. But we have to do our best to keep things as normal as possible. The clan is vulnerable.” He said. “I just wish we understood why.”

The apprentice slipped through the branch pile marking the entrance to camp, continuing to pad down the cliffside path. "Are you sure we can't practice fighting?" Hollypaw bellyached, pouting her lower lip up at Starlingdust. All this angst that had been welling up inside her needed an outlet of some kind, and she was confident she could win against her sister in a sparring match. "Even kits know how to jump. I'm not a kit anymore!" Starlingdust’s ear twitched as her eyes gleamed with a hint of knowing humor. “I know it may seem mundane, but you’ll find these exercises harder than you may think. A good leap takes moons to perfect. Unless you’re afraid to show us.” She teased, hoping to redirect Hollypaw’s energy towards overcoming quick leaping.

Hollypaw was gagged, her mouth gulping like a fish as she tried finding the words to retort Starlingdust's challenge. "I-I'm not afraid!" she snorted, trotting a few paces ahead of the party. She stuck her nose and tail up, hoping to regain her shattered pride. Still, she felt the tips of her ears and her fuzzy cheeks heat up with embarrassment. "I bet I'll be leaping over mountains compared to Puddlepaw." She giggled, throwing a cheeky glance back at her sibling. She had given Rainpaw that nickname since they'd been kits, as her timid nature had often left her shrinking into a mumbling "puddle" of fur.

Why was he thinking this way? “Ledgepaw, you can’t think like that.” He said sharply, a rush of alarm going through him. “You have a whole clan willing to defend you and each other. Whatever happens, we will face. You’ll see your warrior name.” He insisted. He hesitated, unsure of what else to say. He didn’t like the apprentices words or thoughts at all, but he also was not the right cat to handle it. He was better at the rich sarcasm. “Besides, I can’t have you going to StarClan before I can call you Ledgecliff,” he added, forcing lightness into his tone to try and cut the tension.

Rainpaw frowned, having never liked the nickname Hollypaw had given her. “I’ve gotten better at my leaping.” She protested. Rainpaw had gained some confidence in herself during her training sessions with Starlingdust, and even though she got a bit nervous when she trained with her siblings or the other apprentices, she didn’t think she did too horribly during the training.

I won’t say that anymore.” He promised.

Starlingdust gave Hollypaw a lightly stern look, her tail flicking as she reminded. “Banter’s only fun when both sides are quipping back. Don’t tease Rainpaw too much, it might hurt her feelings more than you think.” She knew how frail Rainpaw’s confidence was, and she didn’t want her efforts to build it up in the young apprentice to go to waste. She mewed. “It’s alright, Rainpaw. You did splendid last time, you’ll do just fine this time too.”
As they approached the rocky slopes, Starlingdust eyed a nearby boulder, one that was quite tall. “We’ll start with this one.”

Ledgepaw tried to remain positive that the deputy would be found, but the report from Hawkpaw had not been a good one. Silvercloud dying had already been a jarring sign that wherever Jadefeather and Whitesun were, it likely was not good, or maybe not even anywhere at all anymore. He swallowed, before he admitted. "I guess I've got alot of moons though to think about what my name could be. What about you? Eaglenose. Do you like that name?" He asked curiously, before chuckling. "I can climb a few more."

He just knew he liked the way they tasted. He shook off the other concerns, not wanting to get further into the tension again. “How about we practice some fighting moves then.” He suggested.

Admittedly, he wanted to impress both his mentor and his mother with his battling skills, if he could. He asked with anticipation. "What kind of moves are we learning? I saw Cobrafang sparring with Twigpaw the other day, I'd like to be as good as them." He admitted, knowing how fiercely Cobrafang could fight and train his apprentices.

"distribute your weight a little better, you're leaning-" he instructed. He stood and padded over to nudge Ledgepaw in the right direction and fix his stance then he returned to the other side of the clearing. "let me show you first." He shifted into his battle stance and then leapt at Ledgepaw, reaching him in a few steps and then brought his front paw up and down across the younger cats' face, being sure to keep his claws sheathed. He took a few steps back and nodded. "Okay, now you try. You can either go for my face or you can attempt to get my body." he instructed.

Ledgepaw allowed Eaglenose to adjust his stance, and paid close attention as the tom leaped forwards to deliver the attack. He stiffened and held back the instinct to swipe back, reminding himself that this was not a real battle. Instead, he lashed his tail and shook his fur once the demonstration ended. He narrowed his eyes at his mentor, before he crouched and leaped, his front paw lifting up to swipe towards the older tom's muzzle.

Frostlight sighed as she padded back into camp with Firescorch and Lichengaze, the burial having been a bit more draining than she had thought it would be. She froze when she caught the scent of ShadowClan in the camp, her fur bristling along her shoulders. "What is ShadowClan doing in our camp?" She hissed quietly, eyeing the warriors sitting in the middle of the camp.
Firescorch stiffened when he saw the ShadowClan warriors, but stayed silent as they made their way out of the camp entrance. He stood close to Lichengaze though, deciding to escort his grandfather back to his nest. "It looks like Hollypaw finished making up your nest. Would you like to get some rest?" He asked the elder.

( Moonblazer) Eaglenose held firm as the apprentice's paw batted at his muzzle and he nodded with satisfaction. He took another step back from Ledgepaw. "Okay, that was good. Now, let's try that with a defensive move." he said. He shifted forward and positioned himself back into an offensive crouch. "So, when I go for you this time, I want you to duck and either side-step or roll out of the way. Avoid my paw the best you can." he instructed. He gave Ledgepaw a moment to make his decision on what defensive move he would use and then he darted forward, bringing his front paw up and aiming it for Ledgepaw's muzzle once again.

Poor thing probably hates doing this task. I could have changed my own nest.” He mewed with sympathy.

Clovertail followed Dreamlily up the ledges, glaring down at the Shadowclan warriors only once before exiting the camp. “Where do you want to go?” She asked, but only after they had gotten far enough away from camp the that murmurs and shouts had all but disappeared. (So sorry, I missed this one!) Dreamlily’s ears were flat against her head, but she quickly nodded. “Out near the oak trees is fine. I think I just want to climb something, be up high. Get… get my mind sorted out. Thank you, really, Clovertail. It’s thoughtful of you to want to come with me…” She thanked softly. (It's fine!) Clovertail just nodded, turning her paws to the direction of the oaks. They took their time, a comfortable silence falling over them until they reached the oaks. "Want to go first?" She offered, flicking her tail to one of the trees.

Frostlight frowned as she looked the ShadowClan warriors over as her sister explained what was going on. She sighed when Dewcloud asked about the burial, giving a small shake of her head as she made her way over to the fresh-kill pile. "It just made it sink in that they're really gone now." She murmured, dragging a dove off of the pile. Frostlight glanced around the camp wondering if Withermist had eaten yet. "Have you seen Withermist anywhere?" She asked Dewcloud, looking back at her sister. She couldn't help but worry about how her mate would be handling all of this, especially now that Spiritstar had passed.
Firescorch's ear flicked as he led Lichengaze towards the elder's den, "If she didn't want to be punished, then she shouldn't of been doing something to warrant it." He mewed simply, stepping aside so that his grandfather could go into the den first.

She saw the old claw marks in the bark and comfortably began climbing her way upwards. She padded slowly along each branch she climbed, tail drooping as she rasped. "I just hope my father is having a better time outside of the Clans than I am having in them." She looked out across the forest. "Skyclan is so beautiful up here... I used to climb with him all the time, and now..."

She trailed off, sighing deeply before she mewed to her sister. "Are you sure about this? About... about him? Frostlight, he's so strange. Sometimes I feel like he stares at everyone, like we're pieces of prey..." She shuddered, too concerned for her sister to care if she sounded harsh. She had never approved of their relationship, thinking Frostlight deserved better than such a strange cat. "All apprentices do it." Lichengaze chuckled, loweeing himself into his nest as he stretched his old bones. "Everyone gets up to a little trouble once or twice at this age. I know that it might be easier with only one Elder, but... I guess I miss the days when I was the one having to clean out the elder's den because I got caught sneaking out." He snickered, before his eyes drooped and he began to clean the dirt from his paws. "My dear friends walk with Starclan now. And soon, Lavendersky will too. I will be very sad, to see her go."

As he moved, he ducked and darted forward, taking his front paw and grazing it across the fur on Ledgepaw’s pelt. He unsheathed his claws just slightly so a few drops of fur fell but not enough to cause any injury or pain to his apprentice. He twisted and came to a stop behind Ledgepaw. “In battle, you’ll use your claws for that move,” he said, though he figured that was obvious.

Ledgepaw startled a bit when he felt his mentor's paw graze his pelt. He watched the small fur tips fall from his side, bewildered at Eaglenose's speed and control, before he blinked owlishly. "I can see why. That looks like it would leave a real bad scratch if it hits." He seemed to grin, eyes gleaming with determination. "I'll give it a try!"

"Go on, then," Eaglenose encouraged, readying himself for the move. He had to make sure he reminded himself to let the apprentice try the move and not act like he was in real battle. Eventually, they would upgrade to real tussles, but for now he wanted to get the moves across. Eaglenose dashed towards his apprentice, bringing his paw up once again to try and swipe at his face.
