Yeah that's not okay.
Though on the other hand I do see value in tracing or heavily referencing sometimes.
For instance if you are trying to learn how to draw something new, or a different style, it can absolutely be beneficial to copy it and trace for a while while you are learning. I've seen people get hate for that even when they do cite the sources and that's a bit unfair.
But the key point is while you are learning, and not going to promote/sell what you didn't originally make. Oh for sure. My profile pic came from a template I just colored over (which was said template's purpose). I absolutely understand the value of using templates or tracing to learn your skillset. But it's also a rabbit hole that you can easily fall down and never climb back out of, you know? Oh yeah. When you're using a coloring page/lineart that the artist explicitly says is free to use and color in that's fine because you already have permission for it. I think that's a bit different from using references. I absolutely LOVE to color bases. |

One of my professors convinced me to be the managing editor for a literary journal, a job that pays (poorly) and would supposedly be about 2 hours per week. Little did I know that I would be basically running the entire operation, even though I have no experience working for a journal. The job stressed me out so much, especially when it came to designing the layout in Indesign, something I had no idea how to do. I was able to make the first journal layout, but the second one did not work for some reason. I spent hours stressing about it, and even paid $20 to buy Indesign on my laptop. Unfortunately, I just realized that Adobe tricked me into a yearly contract with them ($20/mo or $109 cancellation fee). I'm so upset, all that stress and work and I'm actually losing money  ((. I understand that it's my fault for not reading the fine print, but I'm still sad |

Fr though I've seen that sort of thing happen a lot in college, especially with the school journalists (campus newspaper) and theater productions. particularly the latter. they tell you that you're only doing x amount of work and it ends up being three times as much. our senior year, my roommate was asked by a theater friend if she could design "one background" (she was an art major) for his zoom production; instead she ended up doing multiple backgrounds, prop shopping, and had to go to his 1.5hr weekly production meetings with his whole crew (and professor) even though only 2% of it was relevant to her volunteer job. i had multiple other friends with similar experiences, to the point where "don't volunteer to help theater productions" became common advice. my poor roommate has a hard time saying no to people and she and her bf (now husband) got suckered into being heavily involved with the student paper as well, even though they only signed up to be photographers. |

Worse is many of those programs have annually renewing subscriptions that will renew automatically, so if you forget to cancel and weren’t careful enough to read the ultra-fine print. You’ll end up stuck in another contract paying for a year. Worse still are the ones that force you to call customer support to cancel your Sub, which the representative never speaks your native language, so just turns into frustrating conversation filled with miscommunication because you can’t hardly understand them, and their running you in circles attempting to appease you to keep your sub. And you just end up hanging up out of anger. Seriously, the scumlords that intentionally design their subscription for whatever service their providing to be such an arduous pain in the neck to get out of, can sit on a chair with a bunch of glued on thumb tacks. |

Gotta love it when you set up a system for your account to automatically order an item from Amazon once per x amount of time, and then the link changes and they want to send you the new item. I've been ordering a type of chip (bag) from Amazon for 6 months now. They stopped selling it and now the link goes to, of all things, an anime girl figure. Amazon is like, "attempting to ship to meet deadline" and I'm like "cancel, cancel, cancel!!!"   Update: Cancellation successful.  |

sometimes i see/hear people say things that make my cook's heart hurt.
i was watching an adam ragusea video and there was a comment discussion about why savory pies aren't as popular in america as they used to be. saw so many comments of people saying, "the blandness of the crust ruins pies. i usually just scoop out the filling and ignore the crust completely". like NO!! pie crust isn't supposed to be bland!! that just means its a BAD CRUST!! this is what happens when people's only familiarity with crust comes from frozen microwave pies and pre-made dough. *sobs*

Also, has anyone had any issues surrounding Windows 10 tabbing you out of a game and prompting you to update to Windows 11? Because that happened to me a couple days ago. To say it was intrusive would be a gross understatement.

I've been struggling for a little while now. Its stupid stuff but I have this friend and I started to crush on them.
So I looked into ways to stop a crush (since they're already dating and I'm not a high priority friend for them) and one of the main tips was distance.
And while it worked at first now I feel guilty I'm actually hurting their feelings by distancing myself even if it's working and I no longer crush on them. I'm fearful if I start to talk and socialize with them again more often, I'll start crushing again and it'll be an emotionally exhaustive cycle and I don't know what to do. If anyone has any tips or support I guess it'd be appreciated. I'm just terrified right now since there feels like no right option.

I forgot it was pride month.
I forgot it was pride month because there is no pride anything in my hometown. No flags, no merch, nothing anywhere. There’s one rainbow flag outside the Democrat office and I’m pretty sure it’s the only one in town.
But last week I went out of town for awhile and holy crap, you take a few steps inside a store and it’s a rainbow explosion. It was everywhere I went. I wanted to buy something, but none of it was discreet enough for someone still in the closet. I ended up getting a little pair of rainbow heart earrings.
Some day I will wear merch and hang a flag in my room and go to a pride event. But for now, here’s to another year of quietly watching (from a distance) as pride month comes and goes.
