mintedstar/fur at least library books don't take up shelf space forever, and buying one new thing isn't too much. My library reopens tomorrow and I'm honestly so excited to go back. Also think they might have the book I want in paper copy, so fingers crossed I'll have it tomorrow! They didn't have an e/audiobook copy of it, that was the system I was checking originally since that's how I've been getting all my library loans throughout quarantine (I have the libby app, which has been super handy). I didn't really read anything today but I had a long shift so I'm mentally fried.

I'm actually researching history for a book I'm writing! I'm currently taking a history course, but it's unrelated. I'm writing a historical fiction/fantasy story on Arthur Dee, the son of John Dee the alchemist. There are so very, very few resources on Arthur, however, so I've been researching his father to get the shape of the time and the family he grew up in. It is very, very dramatic and entertaining. But reading through two books just on him has been tricky to keep my attention. Oh that sounds interesting! a surprisingly good wiki article to read, which i always enjoy Admittedly I know basically nothing about anything relating to that dude, but it seems interesting. Out of curiosity, what got you into writing that story? What's the general plot, if I may?The start is very embarrassing. XD I was wracking my brains for historical characters that could have been in a relationship a vampire character I RPed. I wanted an alchemist. My first thought was John Dee, but there wasn't really any logical way that would work. So I was board and reading John Dee's wiki page and ran across the fact his son was an alchemist. It was a good fit. The general plot of the book actually roughly follows the historical trial that Arthur Dee went through up to his father's death. It includes fantasy elements and politics of the time. It's a wild ride, with several secrets, and far, far too much research. Technically I have 25k written for it ... and am only to chapter 2. So there's something off with the sear length I have written, but I'll work it out.

I just got a new bookcase, so now I have more room for library books. XD I'm mentally fried most days this month and last month, which is really annoying. Books help though. They always help.

chimken nugget Oooooh! You have my attention. I love historical fantasy. I'll certainly check it out! If it isn't too spoilery, can you tell me any more about the characters? o.o sure!! there’s a main group and most of them are good friends from the beginning of the book. séverin is the owner of the hotel that they live in, his fortune was stolen from him at a young age so he’s very edgy and wants r e v e n g e laila is the mom friend, she’s also a famous dancer and baker and generally is the only person keeping the gang alive, but she has Dark Secrets to hide enrique is a disaster bi historian who also happens to be my favorite character. he’s generally chaotic and sarcastic and loves random literary/historical stuff zofia is a genius mathematician/engineer who does not able to socialize. she also does things only for cookies which is very relatable hypnos is the outsider, he seems arrogant at first but is actually the purest sweetest character and just wants some friends to have adventures with!! tristan is the only member of the main group without a single pov chapter, he’s a little cinnamon roll but also with a bonus traumatic past. I'm sold. XD

Also my library decided they weren't actually gonna open. They're just doing curbside pickup so I placed a hold and we'll see if it actually gets processed.

I can always edit down, but I'm bad with filling stuff in. Back to the story itself, that sounds pretty interesting! Are you writing this recreationally or do you intend to publish it formally?
Out of curiosity, have you ever participated in NaNoWriMo?

Cool! I'm doing it too, although it's a poem a day instead. I figured I should try branching out of my comfort zone, although for April and November I'll go back to short stories. What's your preferred genre and/or format for writing? cool! I hung out there briefly last camp nano, but i should go back

That's fune! My preferred format is doing a personal story in November - one I intend to publish - and then a fan fiction in the Camps. This changed this year because this year is crazy, so I've been focusing on finishing projects or switching between several different projects at once. We're a fun sort.

Fanfic is always fun too, but I can never get the character's voices right so I always eventually give up. Still, tons of props to you for writing them! I love reading fanfic since i have trouble letting go of a story. How long have you been doing NaNo?

Update on what I've been reading:
Lots of Doctor Who. Well I say reading. Listening to audiostories. During this situation I haven't been doing as much reading as I have listening, so I can multitask. Listened to both of the Missy series audiostories and a little side story called Regeneration Impossible.
I've almost finished my book for school.

The old ones are still good, but they're just a bit stale.
Cool! My first NaNo was November 2015. It was a hot mess, but I am really happy I did it. November is a busy month (finals around the corner, Thanksgiving and multiple birthdays, etc), but it's still nice to write a lot. Maybe it's just the control freak in me, I don't know. I like scheduling out time slots to write and taking care of a little storyverse while my life goes crazy

I started reading this book called Way of Kings by Brendon Sanderson that's really good! Have to wait for the whole ebook to come off hold tho on my online library app which should take another.... 5 week rip. All his books seem to be super popular it seems as they are all on hold
I've become obsessed with the Ranger's Apprentice books lately and have scarfed through the first 6 books in the past week and i have to wait for the next one to also come off hold.

Just being able to find or make time in a stressful situation. I've been trying to write more every month, but November is always the most productive. I still need to write more for my current project.
