I hope the new liveaction adaptation for Avatar will turn out well. Shouldn't be hard for it to be better than the old adaptation but that's not exactly a high bar.
Oh, I'm trying to get into reading more memoirs and autobiographies and the like. I don't know if you read a lot of those, but any recommendations?

XD Yeah, exactly.
Huuuum. Good question. I have read good ones in the past but now I'm not sure if I can remember any off the top of my head. Hum …
Wellllllllllllllllllllllllllllll Barnes and Noble reopened. Whoops. I bought 4 new books. They were pricy. It was worth it. I read through 2 already though. Loki: The God Who Fell to Earth (comic) and A Shadow in RiverClan (GN).

Oof I bought 3 books when Barnes and Noble reopened where I live. But I already finished one, I'm almost done with An Enchantment of Ravens, and I've started the third already so I think they were reasonable purchases. I don't buy new books that often, usually rely on the library and second-hand stores, but after all the lockdown stuff I decided to treat myself lol

I have a very bad habit of buying a lot of books all at once and then struggling to finish all of them because of the sheer volume. This also happens when I go to the library, but that is okay because, well, no financial consequences. So I'm staying clear of bookstores rn, but luckily my library is beginning to open back up (yay! )

In the past month, I’ve read The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, A Court of Thorns and Roses (first book) by Sarah J. Maas, Crescent City: House of Earth and Blood also by Sarah J. Maas, and The Folk of the Air trilogy by Holly Black.
I really liked the first book of Crescent City. However, my current favorite out of these is the trilogy by Holly Black because of the morally gray protagonist: Jude Duarte. Holly Black uses first person perspective really well and we’re given an ambitious, bloodthirsty protagonist that is the epitome of a chaotic neutral.
Some quotes from Jude:
“If I cannot become better than them, I’ll become so much worse.” “What could I become if I stopped worrying about death, about pain, about anything? If I stopped trying to belong? Instead of being afraid, I could become something to fear.” I can’t find it, but there is something along the lines and Jude’s like: “Little did prince Dain know, my talent is pissing people off.”

--cato phoenix Enchantment is pretty good, but it's definitely the kind of book that you either click with or you don't, not much middle ground. It's a little instalove-ish which isn't something I've ever enjoyed before, but it works for me in this book. I'm really enjoying the author's descriptions, as well as her take on fairy folklore (a little more whimsical of an approach than Holly Black's fairy stories are (if you've read any of those), but still kind of frightening). And mostly I'm surprised by how much I like the main character? Recently it's been kind of rare for me to not be vaguely annoyed with YA protagonists.

So I'm not sure whether to feel guilty that I've been buying a fair amount more than I usually would or whether I should chalk it up to treating myself. But I gotta say I love the books I got. Very comfort books and very much worth it.

Most of the second book focuses on Jude and Cardan and not so much other characters as they’re both living in the castle. What characters did you find the most annoying?

I do have a little more money than usual because my job raised our hourly wage cause of the pandemic, but I really should be making more of an effort to save up for school and car expenses.
I don't regret buying any of the books, cause I did save a lot while stores were closed for two months, but I have banned myself from buying any more until I finish the ones I just got. Its honestly a space issue as well as a money issue, I don't have any more bookshelves left lol

If anyone's looking for YA fantasy recommendations, I just finished Dance of Thieves and it was pretty good. tbh I probably would have given it five stars if the romance weren't so corny, rushed, and overly dramatized. But the plot and politics were very engaging.

I'm writing a historical fiction/fantasy story on Arthur Dee, the son of John Dee the alchemist. There are so very, very few resources on Arthur, however, so I've been researching his father to get the shape of the time and the family he grew up in. It is very, very dramatic and entertaining. But reading through two books just on him has been tricky to keep my attention.

We're both in the buying books camp, it would seem. I've managed to hold off buying any more, but my copy of Nimona just came in at my local bookstore. Right? I am trying to save for college. But I just bought a new computer, which I need for my job, so ah well. It was needed. I agree to that. XD I actually just finished another of them two days ago - the Weirn Books - so I'm making progress on that. I also just cleared my bookshelf for what may be the 5th time these past couple months and I have shelf room again.

Current status on reading the books I bought:
Norse Mythology by Neil Gaimen - Read in the past, so don't really need to reread it so soon. I'm still halfway through anyway. Nimona - just got it in, have to pick it up. Time to reread it! The Weirn Books - Most recent read. Really good. Really creepy for a J Fic GN. Shadow in RiverClan - Read The Count of Monte Cristo - Need to reread a version that isn't abridged. :/ The God Who Fell to Earth - Read it. Really, really good.
Norse Mythology (the other one) - Need to read it and see how it's different from any other books I have on the subject Loki: Where Mischief Lies - Haven't gotten to it yet

currently rereading the gilded wolves by roshani chokshi.
it’s a ya fantasy novel about a group of teenagers (?) in 19th century paris who basically are trying to “acquire” a rare object. there’s a complex and pretty unique magic system that i thought was interesting, especially the way it’s incorporated into the setting.
the characters have a great dynamic and are very diverse, and in my opinion well represented—it also talks about the racism and horrifying human zoos at the time, which i’ve never seen before in a fantasy book.
anyway this is probably one of my favorite books y’all

chimken nugget I just picked that one up from my library, actually. Glad to hear it's good, I liked one of the author's other books but I wasn't sure about this one just going off the synopsis.
mintedstar/fur I haven't bought any more new books and I'm focusing on my library loans now so at least there's that. However, now that I've finished Dance of Thieves I really wanna get the sequel but my library doesn't have it yet so I'm in a bit of a debate as to whether I should just buy it. I also finally saved up enough to cover my entire college fee in one payment so logically I have some spending money but NOW I'm feeling worried about spending it. I've even cleared off some shelf-space so all my books are organized for once but suddenly a single new book is a big decision. I've finished four of the six books I bought so far but three were middle grade so they weren't exactly difficult reads. The last two books in the Southern Reach Trilogy are the ones I still have left and I'm quickly running out of motivation for those lol.

chimken nugget Oooooh! You have my attention. I love historical fantasy. I'll certainly check it out! If it isn't too spoilery, can you tell me any more about the characters? o.o *Ɗαɾƙρσσℓ* I just cleaned more room off my shelf and may or may not have bought a small something else. I also got three new books at the library. The dam is broken and will be hard to repair. Have you tried looking to see if your library has an ebook or eaudiobook addition to sort of ... keep you going until you make up your mind? It's what I do a fair number of times. I really want to read a fun book, but I have to finish chapter 7 in my homework book first. Hopefully I'll get to do that tomorrow.

chimken nugget Oooooh! You have my attention. I love historical fantasy. I'll certainly check it out! If it isn't too spoilery, can you tell me any more about the characters? o.o sure!! there’s a main group and most of them are good friends from the beginning of the book. séverin is the owner of the hotel that they live in, his fortune was stolen from him at a young age so he’s very edgy and wants r e v e n g e laila is the mom friend, she’s also a famous dancer and baker and generally is the only person keeping the gang alive, but she has Dark Secrets to hide enrique is a disaster bi historian who also happens to be my favorite character. he’s generally chaotic and sarcastic and loves random literary/historical stuff zofia is a genius mathematician/engineer who does not able to socialize. she also does things only for cookies which is very relatable hypnos is the outsider, he seems arrogant at first but is actually the purest sweetest character and just wants some friends to have adventures with!! tristan is the only member of the main group without a single pov chapter, he’s a little cinnamon roll but also with a bonus traumatic past.
