My Google Drive is basically a graveyard of dead stories xD although I still like a lot of the ideas in there, I am trying to come up with new ones that excite me. The old ones are still good, but they're just a bit stale.
Cool! My first NaNo was November 2015. It was a hot mess, but I am really happy I did it. November is a busy month (finals around the corner, Thanksgiving and multiple birthdays, etc), but it's still nice to write a lot. Maybe it's just the control freak in me, I don't know. I like scheduling out time slots to write and taking care of a little storyverse while my life goes crazy That's reasonable! I have old notebooks for that. Indeed! That's always the best part, almost. Just being able to find or make time in a stressful situation. I've been trying to write more every month, but November is always the most productive. I still need to write more for my current project. Oh I love notebooks so much. I really should use them more tho... oh well. I'm starting to, so that's good. For whatever reason (probably just I'm fairly bookish) I always get at least one notebook for my birthday, so I have accumulated a decent collection over the years.
Honestly I only really write when it's Camp NaNo or NaNo proper. I don't know why, just I think it helps to have motivation to get me writing. That said, once I start I enjoy it a lot. And same, November is always my most productive writing prompt. If anything I'm just too scared to break my NaNo streak xD
Don't we all, don't we all. Everything I write always needs more editing.

I've just finished all of the main warriors books. (etc. Into the wild, TNP, POT, [You get the drill]) and I've been working up the courage to tackle every single book in chronological order. It's going to be a fun few months.

Completely agreed! I know a lot of people who like to write as a hobby but don't want to do NaNo because they think writing to meet a wordcount goal would stifle creativity. Personally I think it helps me be creative. It just forces me to sit down and write. Not everything that I produce is good, but I always get a few good gems I can work with later on.

Oooooh, what's the Doctor Who story about? I'd love to write one myself but I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to the characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but I really admire fanfic authors who can get the characters just right. That's some skills right there

I'd love to write one myself but I'm too much of a perfectionist when it comes to the characters ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ but I really admire fanfic authors who can get the characters just right. That's some skills right thereIt's a very large Art Trading game. You add your OCs to your profile and then you draw other people's OCs. The person you draw a character for (AKA "attack") then has an option of attacking you back or attacking someone else on your team. When you start Art Fight (every July) you're sorted into one of two teams. So in this case, Sugar and Spice was this year. Attacks are awarded points, but generally speaking the points just help your team and there isn't really a prize for the winning team. It's just a fun extra mechanic. You also have the option to attack people on your own team, but you wont get points for doing it (e.g. I, being in Spice, can attack someone else who is in Spice, but I will get 0 points, no matter how much effort I put into the art. HOWEVER, you can still get art back from said person.) This is called "friendly fire." It's pretty easy to pick up. My avatar was made by Dawny, for example, and I got it through Art Fight because I drew her OC, Milkpaw. So in return she draw my character, Demanton. It's sort of a quarantine story, though that is by complete accident. XD It's from my RP I have with a friend. And in that RP, one of my characters gets house confined. So the sorry is about how to have a space-shenanigans type adventure when you're stuck in a house. I have zero clue if I get the characters right, honestly. But I have fun anyway!

Mildly unrelated but I am loving quarantine AUs rn. Idk why, but it kinda helps me get through quarantine now. It's like some strange solidarity thing with people who don't actually exist, idk. But anyhoo.. I hope the story is going well! And yeah, having fun is definitely the best part! Besides, every character is slightly different when written by different people—although i'm sure you did them justice (:

reading: - geometry textbooks... have read & recommend: - lord of the flies (read for school, obviously. i think you know the plot to this one.) - the pigman (read this book for school too, it's a realistic fiction that takes place around the '90s. group of friends prank calls people from the phonebook and end up befriending an old man.) - bronx masquerade (read this book for school, it's a fiction & poetry book about a group of kids in high school in new york, their literature teacher allows them to read their poems every friday to the class and through their poems they grow closer and learn eachother's struggles) - basher science books (these books are just really cute! they're like cute little textbooks.) i don't read that many books.. Oooh! All of these are outside the usual that I read! I'll have to check them out!

Been up to anything else recently? You get more points for the higher quality a piece is - but it's based on your own skill, not judging it against others. For example, despite the fact I've run across several artists who have better works than me, if we both draw a flatcolor, fullbody of a character, it'll get the same amount of points. XD I'd post my quarantine-ish story if it wasn't for the fact it spoils the comic I'm writing. I just finished it a couple hours ago and I'm very happy with it! Honestly, I should look up some AUs. They're probably very funny. Reading Frankenstein for school! It isn't half bad! I think I've sunk as far as I can sink. I've been buying those pretty cover versions of books from Barnes & Noble.

AUs can be great! I don't go to them a lot, but occasionally I'll find an AU that I like and I'll read those a lot. i had a coffee-shop au phase for a while, as horrible as it was oh but those stories were so pure and wholesome
That's great to hear! I haven't read Frankenstein yet but I really should. The closest I've come is watching a Doctor Who episode with Mary Shelley.
Oh goodness I went on a book-buying binge at B&N this week. Six books, dear goodness. I think that's the first time I've bought books in at least two months, so that's not too bad cumulatively, but goodness I need to work on my self control. I am good about avoiding going to the bookstore (whether in person or online), but once I am there it is absolutely nothing stopping me (except when my arms hurt because I can't carry any more) (I use that as motivation to work out, lol)

Oh I really have to read that poetry now. Again, my knowledge of older literature (aka anything before 1900) is frustratingly lacking. But hey, at least I know there is a lot for me to explore... I guess. idk.
The Girl with Seven Names by Hyeonseo Lee, Fifty Things That Aren't My Fault by Cathy Guisewite, Made in America by Bill Bryson, The Best American Essays 2019 edited by Rebecca Solnit, First They Killed My Father by Loung Ung, and The House of Yan by Lan Yan. I have already finished the last two and am most of the way through Lee's book. Should be done with it by tomorrow. I'm trying to finish all of these by the end of August, so we'll see how that goes. Also, what books did you get recently?
Also congrats on finishing A Midsummer Night's Dream! I've recently been wanting to read Shakespeare again, but that's mainly since I've been watching Upstart Crow a lot. xD

XD As for what I've got ... huuum. Bought Frankenstein, then I've gotten two new Warriors books that I haven't read, Only You Can Save Man Kind by Terry Pratchett, Testament of Loki by Johanna Harris, Devils and Realist vol. 9 and 13 (manga, trying to get the full 15 volumes) - then a couple that I randomly pulled out of used bookstores and I'm too lazy to check the authors - The Midnight Mayor, The Magician of London, and the Serpent's Tooth. The latter look older than what I usually find. Also got a used Braveland's book (book 2) from the same used bookstore. Upstart Crow?

I've never been that into Shakespeare (only one I remember enjoying out of the five plays I've read is Julius Caesar) but I hear the Merchant of Venice is a good one.
I haven't read much in a bit xP I think I mentioned I started Gilded Wolves on here? I'm like a third of the way through the book and I was really enjoying it but then for some reason I put it down and never got back into it. Soon tho, hopefully. Latest book I finished was actually a reread, the first book in the Bartimaeus Sequence. I missed that series so much and the level of writing is so good and agh I'm already halfway through the second book even though I have poetry I should be reading for class and books I should be finishing from the library oof

I was just thinking about the Bartimaeus Sequence a couple days ago.
I miss it honestly. The ending killed me.
I remember hardly anything of it, but I need to reread it honestly. Even if the ending will kill me.

You're the first person I've ever met outside the tumblr fandom tags who has actually read this series lol the ending also killt me dead (Nat's my favorite character even though he's a walking dumpsterfire...and like I knew it was coming but it still hurt my soul). Part of the reason I'm rereading it is because I'm working on a sort-of fix-it fic in my spare time.
I last read the series like 4 years ago I think? But it holds up really well on the reread, I was kind of worried I'd think it wasn't as good now that I'm a little more critical of what I read. While I did pick up on some things that maybe could have been done better, it's still just really well written? The humor? The descriptions? And of course the characterization? I wish I could be half as good a writer as Jonathan Stroud.

Admittedly I really haven't read much poetry on my own. There has been a lot of poetry I read in school that I liked (loved Adrienne Rich, if I'm remembering the right one).
Having finished them: Hyeonseo Lee and Loung Ung's books are incredible. Horrifying in many ways, yes, as they deal with very difficult things. They are both incredible writers and... wow. I completely lost track of time while reading them. The Best American Essays of 2019 was really good, as expected. I love a good essay collection. Bryson's book was okay. It got a bit dry but that might have been me zoning out. Lan Yan's book was good but for some reason I just couldn't concentrate on it, if that makes sense. Guisewite's book was nice. I wouldn't reread it, but it was entertaining. Her writing was not super... refined, if that makes sense, but I kinda loved how organic it was (and how light it was, since I read it right after Ung's book).
I've only heard of the Pratchett and the Testament of Loki, but I know little about either one of them. Anyways, tell me how those books are! Always looking for a good new read.
Upstart Crow's a British comedy show about Shakespeare. Each episode kinda follows the plot of one of his plays, but they all follow his life. David Mitchell plays Shakespeare, if you have heard of him. I really recommend it, the writing is very witty. Also you don't need to know a ton about Shakespeare or his work to understand it (which is really good for me). They make fun of literary conventions and current events, it's really good.

I've read so much. XD My sister also read the series, but I'm pretty sure I was the only one to read the Ring of Solomon. But I did, I did indeed read and love that series. (It hurt me so much. ;-; I remember flipping threw and going "no, no, take it baaaaack.") PLEASE FIX IT. ;-; My heart huuuuurts. I'm not sure at all when I last read it, but recently my bookstore keep recommending it to me, so the temptation to reread it grows stronger. Jonathan Stroud is a very good author! Here here to that statement. I do believe I have reread the first book twice in the course of my life, but nothing within the last 4 years. So admittedly, I am probably due for another one.

Some people are wary of RoS because it's such a distant prequel, and of course after finishing the og trilogy going into a book without Nathaniel or Kitty seems kinda sad, but I loved that one too. I've read a handful of other fix-it fics but they've always seemed a little off to me (not because they're bad fanfics, a lot of them are very well written, they just don't line up w what I specifically want in a fix-it fic lol) so I wanna take a stab at it myself. I'm trying to make it not too happy but also not too full of exaggerated conflict so who knows what the end product will look like. Also imitating Bartimaeus as a narrator is really, really, really hard. You don't really think about how distinct his voice is until you're trying to write that way.
Its worth the reread if you ever find time lol I know you're usually reading lots of other stuff. Stroud rlly is a good author, I like his middle grade ghost series too, and I hear that one's getting a tv show soon!

Oh yes, yes, very true! I didn't think of it like that. It's very usual of me to just keep reading anything within the series without considering things along those lines, pfft. I think I may like book 2 the best, if memory serves, but I enjoyed the sequel as its own thing. I haven't read any, but now I need to do some poking around to see what's out there! At least after I reread anyway. I remember how distinct his voice was, I believe, so props to you for getting there! I'm always reading a lot of stuff. What's one more. XD I haven't read Lock & co. I tried it out, but didn't get into it. I wanted to try it again, because I think I may appreciate it more now I'm not so picky toward a very specific genre.

There isn't like. a whole lot of fic in the fandom but there are a handful of fix-its out there. I read just about all of them after I read the series the first time because I was just that heartbroken. The one really popular one is about Nat and Kitty having an arranged marriage though which just ???? idk it just wasn't a trope I saw working for them. I'm still on book 2, and I think it's my favorite from a plot standpoint (also I think it's the one that comes closest to horror territory which is kind of interesting), but nothing beats book 3 in terms of emotional impact.
I read the first book of Lockwood and I really liked it, but then I just never got to the rest of the series. I hear the later books get more interesting as well so I've been meaning to read them for ages but then I just...reread books I've already read five times instead.

Sounds like things I've done with series before. I wasn't really on the lookout for things other than Warriors fan fictions at the time though, so I wouldn't have thought to look those up. Pity that there aren't more for that fic you need, right? Well, that's good praise. But also very large mood. I'm rereading Guards! Guards! despite the fact I've read it a lot already.
