this was originally going to be a christmas type thing but as i'm starting to plan this i feel that an arctic based clan would work out better. i'm thinking it's going to be a claim-a-cat type thing probably semi-lit/lit open to ideas and suggestions

Hello there! This clan looks like it has a lot of potential and I am excited to see it come out! I, especially, love the idea of using the Northern Lights, the North Star, and the name, Auroraclan. I wanted to help pitch some ideas so feel free to use, modify, or keep whatever you wish. If I have more ideas, I don't mind tossing them at you if you like. The only comment I have from the existing ideas is that I do like the idea of moving between camps. There could be the main camp where the clan normally resides and then some sort of secondary camp.
Kits of the Light Kits born during or at the start of an aurora borealis is considered a grand honor. The kits are said to be blessed by Aurorastar herself and will have a particular connection to the sky. It is common for these cats to be lovers of the sky and stars often watching it like Aurorastar did herself. Some claim that these cats could even speak to the north star and Aurorastar themselves, but it is not confirmed if those claims are true. It is believed that these kits will be blessed with intellect, talent, leadership, and compassion. It is not unheard of for these cats to become future leaders or medicine cats. These cats are often referred to as Sky Dancers (can be changed. I had no idea what to call them) due to how the light is associated with the sky and how they seem to dance about. While cats not born during this time are not mistreated, there can be some bias from some of the cats that may give a bit more favor towards the Sky Dancers.
The Potential Location for the Ancestors
Medicine cats (and sometimes leaders) can take a journey to climb a steep mountain known as Sky Peak. On top of this mountain, there is a pool of water known as the Light Pool. Whispers tend to echo from the pool until the cat in question does something to activate it. When touched with the nose or licked with the tongue, cats can visit their ancestors for guidance. Sometimes, Aurorastar may even show up to deliver the news. Prophecies are told with events form from light. These scenes do not necessarily mean that this will all happen in the future. Some could be current or even past events if somehow, they have some sort of connection to the future prophecy. Their ancestors will not normally use words to tell them what to expect as the light reveals all. However, they may give hints if it is their choice. The cats visiting the Light Pool state it feels like they are enveloped by light as the lives of their ancestors unfold before their eyes. If the Northern Lights were not already present, the skies burst to life the moment the pool is activated. Images of cats hunting, running, and various other activities seem to be reflected. Other animals can be present as well almost like the lights contain another world not only for their ancestors, but for all animals that call the arctic their home. Below, I have added certain images from the film, Brother Bear, as this is where a lot of my inspiration came from. The first is just to highlight how the animals and the clan's ancestors look like in the Northern Lights. The second is the mountain that I thought could help shape the inspiration for Sky Peak and how the lights could appear from a distance. The last is how the spirits in the Northern Lights could interact with the cats as well as how prophecies could be told using the light as a media.
Singing Ice
One of your comments about the ice breaking gave me an idea. Have you ever heard of singing ice? The basic idea is that as the ice gets thicker, the pressure causes the surface to crack. As the cracks spread rapidly, it creates strong vibrations so singing ice. The sound of the ice can be different. There could be a lake or some other location where these sounds are heard. It could be one of the locations where the cats like to go to. Maybe apprentices love sliding around on the ice and feeling the vibrations underneath. These vibrations are strong so these cats could easily be knocked off their paws (or at least feel like it) if the ice cracks near them. There could also be myths and legends about the singing ice. Some cats may feel like the ice allows them to have a more spiritual connection to their ancestors and the world around them. Maybe it is part of the festival somehow. Maybe it is where the cats get their ice to create their ice shards from. For the more skeptical cats, they could believe it is the noises of the trapped souls that were underneath the ice. Some could believe it could be cats that were banished for their crimes against the clan. Others could believe that it is the drowned souls that fell in the ice. Some could believe it is a mixture of both. If not cats, some of these cats believe that there could be some beast hidden underneath the ice. Here is the video where I got my information from. You can be able to hear the singing ice as well and see if you want to incorporate it somehow. These ideas can be changed.
The Folklore of the Clan's Beginnings.
Below, I have written out my thoughts and ideas for the clan's beginnings and the north star. It is in the form of a full-fledged story. They are a combination of ideas of when I was trying to tell how the Northern Lights were created and the significance of the north star. These can be changed so feel free to modify or keep whatever you wish from this.
There was a cat had become one with the sky. Their soul was the brightest to illuminate the sky so much so that it could be seen for miles. It would watch the felines below go about their lives. The cat enjoyed aiding them. The felines would often try to use them to help light their way to find somewhere to go. But it was hard for them as well. The cat could not walk with them. They could not laugh with them. They could not sing or dance with them. They couldn’t even have a conversion with them. Their company was the stars around them. It should have been a dream come true. After all, they were a star themselves. Unfortunately, the stars were just as void as the darken sky around them. The cat started to reflect on their previous life. All were the days where being alone was swell. Their quiet time was their sanctuary and they could focus on looking to the stars dreaming about what it would be like. However, even then, it was not like they never spoke to anyone. The cat was starting to long for someone even if it was just one singular being in the universe that could talk to them. That was their wish upon a star. Eventually, a young white-furred she-cat was born. She was vibrant and adventurous. She was curious about her little world and her compassionate heart would create such warmth in others that it could even melt the snow. However, she was a cat that had a connection to the sky. Whenever she got the chance, she would tell others about how one day, she would explore the skies themselves just like the birds she admired so much. She would speak to the stars frequently. Her belief that the stars could hear her was what cause the little whispers of replies from the star cat to be heard.
The two of them would share so much with each other. Their shared dreams about their love for the sky. Laughing about the events of the day. And comforting each other when things were hard such as the death of her parents. The star came to know that the she-cat was named Aurora. She, in turn, learn that the star cat had forgotten their previous name. So, she gave them one. She called them North because she could always find the star whenever she looked north from her home. Eventually, Aurora wanted others to know about North. She wanted them to know about the star that would guide them in the darkness. At first, Aurora had a hard time gathering believers. They figure she was just some crazy dreamer talking to lifeless stars. But little by little, she had gained a small pool of cats that share her love for the sky, which in turn, those little whispers from North reach their ear as well. As her community grew, North soon realize that a threat could soon cause calamity towards their friends. The stirs of winter came with it the threat of a blizzard. It would threaten the lives of the wildlife around them and bury them where they stood.
North inform Aurora that she needed to take her friends and find them a new home. They told them about the blizzard that would soon hunt for them. They told her that if she could, find more new friends to take with her. The she-cat was young and inexperience when it came to leadership, but the fear of her loved ones and friends being harmed scared her more. When she asked where she would go, North simply inform her that they did not know, but follow their light and they will surely help her find a good place. She told many cats. Some were onboard but others did not believe. As much as she tried to convince them, some did not change their views and she had to leave them behind before the upcoming threat. The journey was long and hard, but they soon came to the place where the modern-day clan would reside in.
After some time, the group had settled, and the news was spreading like wildfire. North would lead these cats following their light to this group where most remain. The promises of protection, food, and shelter was appealing, and Aurora would not deny a cat a new home to stay. She felt that her group was a welcoming one and benevolent to all. It was soon becoming clear, however, that the group needed more structure. As more cats joined, Aurora was shaping up more to be a leader and cats were taking on more roles like hunting. They were no longer the simple little group of friends watching the stars at night. Over the moons, Aurora would brainstorm with North and her followers on the names and duties of their group. Some roles that were once separated such as fighters and hunters were soon combine into warriors as hunters would help fight and fighters would still help hunt. North would aid the group as well and with Aurora and the other believers, more of North’s words were becoming clearer to the group. They started looking at North as something more than a star. They were their guidance and protector from above.
Towards the leader’s final moments, the moon did not shine. The stars were all that remain with North being the brightest of all. Aurora had grown and shaped the group into something worth fighting for. There were hardships such as the struggles for food, defending against predators, and betrayals from those that wish to see the group fail. But there were also blessings. The leader was a mother and had seen her three kits survive to adulthood. She had a loving mate. She had even, with the help of the first medicine cat, found a spot where her connection with North was the strongest and was granted her nine lives. In honor of North, she created the suffix -star where she would now be known as Aurorastar, and this resulted in the introduction of suffixes. Now, the she-cat was an elder that was wilting with time. She no longer had the strength to move around like she used to. Her final meeting with her members would be held at her den where her voice would whisper through. She told them how she loved each and every single one of them. How she was proud to be their leader and witness their growth. How proud she was to be the mother to her three kits and the loving, faithful mate to her lover. And now, she was proud to announce that she would not leave them without making sure they were in good paws. She announced her most trusted friend before the group was formed as the next leader. This cat had acted as the now known deputy role and ask them to take on the -star suffix in honor of her and North. She thanked North for their friendship and guidance and ask them to continue to watch over her members. North, in turn, did not respond with words, but a single twinkle that could be seen by miles. It was their resolve to guide the group, but it also had a greater meaning. Aurorastar promised the group that she would continue to guide them in the best way she knew how. Her only regret was that she could not see the sky under the shelter of this den one last time.
It is said that when the leader took her last breath, North had granted her wish. Before the group’s very eyes, the leader’s soul had transitioned into the embodiment of the vibrant, warm soul she was. Aurorastar’s tail lost its snowy white color but was replaced with a colorful array of colors that left colorful lights wherever it went. Instead of the aging elder she was, she had the appearance of the young cat who was still the inexperience leader when she first took the group away from the blizzard threat. Her icy blue eyes were warm and excited as she realized that she could fly and that meant that she could soar the skies. North remembered her wish to explore the skies and leave a trial of happiness and hope wherever she went. With that, the leader took off leaving a trial of lights behind and this is how the Northern Lights were created. In honor of their fallen leader, the new leader decided to name their group, Auroraclan.
Now in modern times, North or North Star still has a significant impact on the group. Aurorastar is still flying the skies to this day guiding lost souls to their new home in the sky. If she is not doing that, then she is greeting and entertaining the cats below allowing both old and new soul to be with their loved ones from above.
The North Star's Appearance
Regarding the north star, if you go with this idea, I had an idea about their appearance. There could be an air of mystery as far as what they look like. There would be extremely few cats (even among the Sky Dancers if they are used) that would have seen North. Aurorastar didn't even see North until she had passed on and created the Northern Lights. For the few that claimed to have seen them, the most common retelling is that the cat is so bright that one cannot look at them for long without risk of being blinded. When they do show up, it is for clan-shattering news. However, very few (typically leaders) have stated they have seen them during their leader ceremony. It is unclear, however, if the cat ever gave them a life or what they may have even said to them. Despite how ominous it can be for them to show up, there is a sense of grand importance that many feel like they have transitioned the realms of a typical cat since this cat felt they were the best suited candidate. There are still theories as to the importance of such meetings.

(( i'm still reading through the clan beginnings section but i had to post. your ideas are awesome! they will definitely be incorporated and any others you have would be appreciated! I really love the idea of Sky Peak (i love brother bear!) i was writing the territory (still haven't updated it) so these new landmarks are very useful! thanks so much for the help, it's kind of a daunting task to take on by myself ~ ))

Thank you <3 I am glad you like them.Yay! Someone else who likes Brother Bear! The moment I started thinking about the northern lights and ancestors and all that jazz I could not help but remember the transformation scene. It is one of my favorites from the movie and I just love the music as well! I can understand that. You know what, how about I become a helper? Then you can have someone to help you out more and pitch ideas back and forth to? I enjoy writing and coming up with those ideas so it would be nice to get back into clan planning again. Since you are focused on territories, I'll think of more territory ideas. Are we starting with the main camp (if we do the two-camp idea? If not, I think it is just as much a good idea to have one camp)?

(( i love Brother Bear, definitely a favorite from my childhood! the music was amazing and the idea fits pretty perfectly into what i was thinking i would appreciate the help! i'll list you on the main post as a helper, thanks so much! awesome! and i was thinking about two camps. one in the rocky, less snowy areas of the park and the main one on or near the mountains and ice-sheet? or vice versa, like the rocky one is the main. i actually think that might make more sense but Sky Peak would probably have to be between them so that they can still talk with the Northern Lights/Aurorastar... right? does that even make sense idk.. xD ))

Apologies about the wait, I ended up having to do some things.
It was one of those movies I watched when I was a child too! That's awesome! I was not sure when I originally suggested it if it would fit or if you would know about the movie so that work out perfectly! No problem! I am happy to be useful <3
I understand what you mean. I do like those two camp ideas. Some additional ideas I had was combining the two. There could be smaller mountains or mountainous glaciers that create a hidden, rocky valley where the cats live. Something like this image and the lake could be included as well. The medicine cats could be able to use this small pool of water for their patients and it grants easier access to the elders, queens, and kits. Maybe something like Riverclan where the cats could use the pool to help teach kittens how to swim. Rock formation can create the dens. The other cats can use it as well when they are home, but generally try to make sure there is enough for the dependent members meaning they usually get their water when they are out hunting or patrolling. Thanks to the mountains or mountainous glaciers, it provides protection as it is hard to find the camp. The cats, on the other hand, know one or a few shortcuts to enter, which some of them could be cave systems in the mountains or tunnels created some time ago. This could be their main camp. Sky Peak could be the largest one so it will stand out from the others. As you mention, it would be between the two camps for the same reason you gave. The other idea for the secondary camp I had was small forest that could be out in an open field full of shrubs and other foliage. There could be a beach nearby. There would be water somewhere for them to drink. There would also be hills with various degrees of steepness. Or if not that, then some sort of forested area like this and they could near a river with hills and mountains in the background. Other greenery like shrubs would still be present. The secondary camp would be within the forest. I imagine it can provide a lot of shelter especially from snow and contain a lot of food. What do you think of these? Feel free to change anything.
Camp Ideas
Mountainous/Mountainous Glaciers Valley camp idea
Small Forest near Beach Idea
Large Forest with River Idea
Another territory idea was cotton grass. I just discover these as I was searching around landscapes for Greenland. I thought these could be a wonderful addition. If we went with the beach idea for one of the camps, this area could serve as a significant drinking and hunting location as these plants like moist area. It is an excellent way to see snow geese and caribou calves as well, but it is recommended to exercise caution when these animals are present. It could look something along the lines like this.
Out of curiosity, you also mention a park. I was curious to learn more about that since I want to make sure I am still suggesting territories that could still work with that.

no worries, i'll be a little poofy until later tonight because i'm having friends over for dinner, so i thought i'd let you know!
it was a fantastic, yet totally underrated disney movie! i'm really glad you're here to help, honestly! c;
that's a phenomenal idea! i really like them having their own personal pool of water, that makes a lot of sense! also, i think i'm leaning more towards the beach option so they can do more fishing and such and if we did go with this i think the cotton grass should definitely be implemented! actually, regardless i think the idea should be applied, but maybe on a smaller scale if we go for the larger forest, since they'd have the river too? or it could be an extension of the river i suppose?
yes, its Northeastern Greenland National Park or something like that? It's huge and has a few human settlements, like research centers or an airbase but other than that it's pretty open from what i found and doesn't ever really get that populated so i figured it'd be perfect?

Oh, have fun! That sounds like it will be a great dinner. Yes, it is. I would love for more people to know about the movie and see what they think about it! The park does sound perfect and it seems like it allows room for some creative places without being 100% accurate.
I think the beach idea could work well. I don’t think I have seen an arctic based clan that had a beach since I wouldn’t think to have one in such a cold environment. Based off the location for the Northeast Greenland National Park, it does look like it would be plausible to have beaches. I also love the idea that these cats could fish, which makes the pool all the more useful at the main camp. The main camp pool could help teach kittens how to practice fish so when they are old enough to head to the beach, they use those skills there. Perfect, we can have the cotton grass be the main source of water for the second territory. We could still use the larger forest as the landmark for the main territory. It can have the river included. Or do you think it would be better to expand the beach forest to make it larger and have the cotton grass area be a part of the river?
Another territory idea incoming. There could be a small community of people (maybe about five) that live in cabins. These people will show up every year at a certain time of year. This could be Greenleaf or Summer. Any other time, the homes are empty, which is the recommended time to visit this site. They are most likely a family that likes to live off the land. When this happens, the landscape tends to change as the twolegs work to repair their homes, hunt, and do other various activities to help them survive the wilderness. The twolegs, themselves, are not too much of a threat, but it is still best to stay out of their way. The true danger comes from their dogs and traps. The dogs serve as a form of transportation and hunting as they can help them locate and sometimes catch food. These dogs are not against catching a cat but the twolegs do not go after cats. Their true targets are animals such as geese and other birds, caribou, rabbits and other small animals, and maybe some predatory animals. Accidents can happen, however, if the cat is caught in the blast from the firestick that the twoleg was holding, but this is very rare. As for the traps, these contraptions are there to catch food. Sometimes, they are a form of defense. Cats can get caught in these and get injured, which is why they are train to look out for them. There are gardens that can prove to be useful to get some herbs from there, but for the most part, the gardens contain various food items for the twolegs to consume. The Campgrounds, as they are called, can also be useful when it comes to finding food, but this is a last resort and far too dangerous to try. The cats would have to sneak and steal the food right under the dogs and twolegs’ noses. If caught, the twolegs will usually scare off the cats, but sometimes, the felines may get lucky if there is enough food that the twolegs don’t mind sharing. They may even give them extra leftovers. If a dog catches them, they will give chase and attempt to kill unless stopped by their owners. Apprentices have been known to try and challenge each other to sneak into the Campgrounds to steal food or explore the area. Sometimes, they may try and challenge each other to maneuver through traps. I am not sure which territory this could be located. I just thought it could be an interesting idea since humans can live there. Inspiration came from those shows where I would watch families live off the land like The Last Alaskans.

it was an interesting time, ran a lot later than i expected though ~
i think we should expand the beach forest and make it larger, so that we can add the river in as well. maybe it moves a little too fast to be viable for water or fishing? but maybe herbs grow near by or there is a path across that must be crossed to get to the second camp?
i absolutely love that idea, it adds conflict and such which can be used for plotting and drama! but at the same time it offers herbs and new ways for them to try and survive, like if prey runs scarce and cats are starting to starve they can resort to trying to steal food from the two-legs? anyway, i see a lot of possibilities for that idea and i definitely think we should implement it!
you're more than welcome rockydublin ! we're kind of figuring out the main territory but we'll definitely need help on descriptions for specific landmarks and... basically everything else xD if you would like, i can add you to the helper section? c:

Sure. I’ll do what I can to help I have a hand written list of warrior name ideas so if you are in need of names I can help with that. Where are the clans locations? I saw Greenland as one of the options. I can look around for landmarks in the wild if u would like?

Also looking at Greenland’ national park landmarks how far do the clans stretch? Do they go up to H. H. Benedict Range? Is there a clan that has more territory than the other two or is it pretty even?

That’s great that you had a good time still! That makes sense. It would give them more space than that tiny little forest I show. Oh, I really like the idea of the river being fast-moving. Not only does it give more reason to go to the cotton area because it is the calmest area, but it adds a bit of danger. Try to swim in that water or get caught up in the waves and you going to have a bad time. If one ends up in the water when it is freezing cold, then that will cause even more problems because now there is the risk of frostbite and hypothermia. I also love the idea that the river acts the bridge to cross to the second territory! If we place the Campgrounds around the second territory, they could have been the ones to build an actual bridge. Otherwise, we could use a fallen log, some large, flat rock or something else to act as the bridge. Herbs would be useful to have growing around there. Awesome <3 There may be a plot I have brewing in my mind that revolves them. I will just have to flesh it out a bit more and see what you two about it. I was also thinking that the length of time should be expanded. Maybe the twolegs are there during the Summer and Fall but leave once the start of winter sets in? That gives two seasons where the cats don’t see them to balance things out. Let me know what you guys think. I am also currently fleshing out ideas about the singing ice. I had some idea about some sort of myth surrounding an entity that could be the embodiment of Leafbare. I feel I will hold off on that and flesh it out a bit more to suggest later, but feel free to still give me your thoughts on that. It basically was a legend about a chaotic neutral force that can either protect the clan or cause harm to them like cats getting lost in the bitter winds. There was also the fact that it could be used to scare kits into behaving.
Oh nice Rockydublin! Names can be hard for me to come up with so having a list of warrior names that can become adoptable cats would be awesome! Look forward to any landmarks you come across as well.

there's only one clan, though they have two camps - one during Leaf-Fall and Leaf-Bare and the other during New-Leaf and Green-Leaf. sorry if that was confusing! as for how far the clan stretches, i haven't actually figured that bit out yet. there has to be room for two decent sized territories and some unclaimed land in between that they have to cross to get back and forth?
yes! the fast moving river will just add more struggle. cx getting kits and elders across the bridge safely on their journey to the other camp would be a spectacle. the river can be like a "ghost" story told to the kits as a warning during the journey. the two-legs building a bridge sounds great to me but maybe it's older and not always the most stable?
oh, i'd love to hear it once you have it figured out! i haven't really given much thought to a plot but i think there's a lot of potential here! they'd only be really inconvenienced during leaf-fall because i think during the summer they'll be at the other camp but during leaf-bare them not being there could be interesting?
i really like the idea of their being a winter deity, maybe one for summer or the sun as well for the little warmth it gives? also, i was thinking that maybe because their territory is so harsh, medicine cats have figured out how to grow herbs in little burrows/caves underground near the mountains? like maybe there are holes to let in some sunlight and natural icicles that drip and provide water? maybe Aurora or North help out a little, or the summer/sun deity? dunno, just an idea i had

( this is what i have of the territory so far! the names are subject to change and it's a little lengthy and probably needs to be organized better but it's what i have at the moment ~ please give feedback and or ideas )
AuroraClan is tucked away in the Northern Greenland National Park. They're settled in the many acres of wilderness that the park has to offer. Their main territory is half mountainous terrain and half ice sheet. The icy half of their territory is barren of most flora but there is some prey to be had and predators are abundant here. Nestled in the frozen half the call the Glacier Fields, is (insert description of singing ice). In the mountain half is their main camp, which is surrounded by mountainous glacier formations that create a hidden rocky valley. In this valley is a small lake that provides fresh drinking water closer to camp. AuroraClan camp is relatively open, seeing as it's difficult for predators and outsiders to find the trails into the valley. They settled close to the right shore of the lake to give elders, queens, and kits better access to drinking water. During the colder seasons, the mountain area has little vegetation beyond some coarse grass and some thin bushes which means that there is little protection from the harsh winds. Prey also becomes incredibly scarce, which is why the clan migrates to their second territory during this time. However, during the warmer seasons, there is a shocking amount of life, mostly in the form of ferns, horsetail, mosses, and heather. Herbs have a better chance at growing in this time as well and all this plant life leads to a surplus of prey. On the western side of the territory, there is a sparse forest, with a few fox-lengths between each thin pine. This area still provides shelter to prey and so it is a decent hunting ground. Small streams, too shallow for fish, cut through the harsh terrain and offer fresh drinking water. Beyond their southern border, which is made up of an outcropping of large rocks, there are more plains with rolling hills. A day's journey through the hilly area will bring you to a fast-paced river they call, Lost River. Once AuroraClan crosses the Lost River, they are in their second territory which is a wide spruce forest close to a rocky beach and some cotton grass fields.

those names are awesome! i'm sure we'll be able to use many of them! that makes me excited to start creating the cats but alas, there is more practical work to be done cx
i'll definitely take a look at these landmarks and see if any of them fit in with the territory! if you find one that sounds close to the idea we have please offer it and we can add it right in ~
also, 🇳ᴇcʀᴏᴅ🇦🇳cᴇʀ, thanks so much! it's turned into a lot more than i was expecting c: feel free to help out if you want, i think once we finish up territory we're moving onto customs ^^

I do like it personally I do think it looks a bit more professional when you list the landmarks individually rather than all in one clump of text, but I like but you do a good job of explaining the key details in a short space and I like your wording and if you were wanting any help with coding I’d be willing to help out you can some examples on my profile but I know my style isn’t for everyone.

cool! listing the landmarks separately was originally what i had envisioned and i still want to be able to do that but then comes the struggle of how - at least for me. lol i would adore some coding help, seeing as i can't code to save my life! i actually really admire your style, i love how neat and pretty TaigaClan looks, if that is your own work!

Ah I understand, sorry it wasn’t meant to sound over critical. Oh thanks yes it is mine, I do all my own coding (even if it kills me) I’d be willing to make you one if you wished, I could change it up if there’s something you don’t like about it or I could help teach you how to code if you were wanting?

i didn't think you were being over critical at all and constructive criticism is very welcome! if i came off as frustrated it was definitely aimed more inwards, since my goal was to have the landmarks separated and it got all muddled c:
it must take a lot of patience and time but it's really awesome work! i actually was going to join (characters are hard :c) and the first thing that caught my attention was definitely the beautiful code-work! i'm up for either option, as i would like to learn coding at some point. but i also have no problems with your style if we go that route either ~
