Callie wasn't getting the greatest impression from the blond boy, whose attitude certainly left something to be desired. Still, teenagers would be teenagers, she supposed.
Thankfully, the other boy, who introduced himself as Quail, was much more friendly. Callie latched onto this, giving him a smile. If they had one person in the group who was willing to be friendly and talk them through things, that was a good start. In fact, it might be all they needed.
"Hi, Quail," Calliope responded in greeting "You guys can call me Callie."
That felt like a good move to establish rapport. She'd already introduced herself more formally, but clearly she needed to do something to develop some kind of friendly feeling with this group if she wanted to get anywhere with them. She thought they might respond better if she took away the element of authority.
"So can you tell us exactly what it is you guys saw?" she asked, tilting her head, in response to Quail's vague words about them having seen something.
A taller girl close to the back of her group brought dark brown eyes up from her phone. Her hair was dyed various bright neon shades, some seemingly better done than others. Callie suspected she'd done it herself at home and it might have been her first time dying her own hair. She seemed artistic though, if the doodles on her hands and arms done in pen were anything to go by.
"Mothman, duh," the girl answered before immediately dropping her eyes back down to the phone screen as if even those few moments had been the biggest inconvenience of her life.
Another one Callie thought might need some drawing out to get answers from, so she set away with that right away.
"Right. Sorry, I didn't catch your name?" Callie answered.
The girl looked up again, clearly mad at being addressed when she'd just returned to her phone, and gave Callie a look as if she were the stupidest person in existence. Callie wasn't fazed by this; she had three siblings, she'd had to deal with them all in her teenage years.
"I didn't give it. Lex." the girl replied impatiently.
Okay, so maybe short for Alexis? Alexandra? Alex? Surely enough, a bracelet around the girl's wrist caught the light as she typed on her phone, a name flashing. Alexis.
Callie nodded, doing her utmost to continue being upbeat and professional.
"Okay, so can you describe what happened? Set the scene for us." Calliope ventured
Alexis rolled her eyes, but finally put her phone in her pocket, crossing her arms as she began to address the detectives.
"I don't know, it was nighttime and were here hanging out. It was, like, misty or foggy or whatever. And then we saw it, got freaked out and booked it."
Callie nodded, sharing a glance with Roswell, before looking again at the girl.
"And how did you know it was Mothman?" questioned Callie
There was the 'you're stupid' look again, the teenager obviously having little patience for this detective's questions.
"I've never seen contacts that can make your eyes glow red like that." Lex answered
Now, Callie knew that technically it was possible to buy contact lenses that did that. But at the same time, this girl seemed so sure. Besides, they still had to pursue it. If someone was dressing up as Mothman and frightening people in the streets that still wasn't exactly what you wanted.

If there was one thing scarier than hardened criminals, it was teenagers. And Roswell was staring them down right now, hoping that they'd be able to get some sort of information out of them. They didn't seem all that willing to talk, especially this Lex girl and one of the boys. If anything, there was hope with the one named Quail, who seemed to be looking frantically between his friends as they continued with short, almost annoyed, responses, and then looking back to the detectives, eyes wide and full of fright. It was a look Roswell was sure had been on his face plenty of times before.
"It was...it was huge," Quail murmured, fidgeting where he stood. "Probably bigger than a person, and it...yeah, it had red eyes, glowing like lights. I...I don't know if it went anywhere else, we...we ran away, like Lex said."
Roswell couldn't help but feel a pang of sympathy for Quail. He seemed genuinely frightened, unlike his two other friends who just seemed to be annoyed that there were two detectives asking them questions about something they had to have reported. Though, from the little he knew about this group, he felt like it was Quail who had been the one to report it while the other two had simply went along with it to keep the boy from freaking out.
"Did you happen to notice anything else, before running away?" Roswell asked, knowing he needed to step in and do his job - he couldn't make Callie do all the work.
Quail seemed to think for a moment before adding, "Wings. I saw them. We saw them." He looked over to Lex and the other boy as if silently asking for their support.
The snappish blond from earlier gave a snort, shrugging his shoulders sharply. "Arms and wings, normal people don't have both."
That was true, normal people didn't have wings with their arms, or wings at all. Roswell glanced over to Lex for a moment, wondering if she would be willing to add anything more to this.

Norman Walters
For a long time, silence followed the surprise that Norman, the modern day Sherlock Holmes, hadn’t seen coming. Truth be told, Norman had never been too great at the whole romance thing, as great of a detective he was in every other way, his Achilles heel laid within the art of romance. As the silence dragged on for even longer, Norman became increasingly aware of the fact they were both waiting for him to say something, however, quite frankly, he both didn’t know what to say, nor did he know how, so, finally, after what was probably too long for comfort, he stood back up. “Well then, I should leave you two alone,” he said, his voice as neutral as possible as he snagged the entire basket of breadsticks from the table. “...I’m taking these,” he explained after a pause, glancing from Ty to Cat as he held the basket of breadsticks in his arms. There was another beat, as he awkwardly stood there for another moment, before finally, walking away and over towards the kitchen, waiting there for the staff to come back and get him so he could investigate the ghosts. Ghosts were good, ghosts didn’t betray you by dating your coworker or brother, therefore mingling your personal and professional lives together despite your best efforts to avoid that. Ghosts were reliable, ghosts were good. Absentmindedly, Norman took a large bite out of a breadstick and tapped his foot against the ground. — — — Meanwhile, back at the table, Ty cast Cat a look. ”...I’m gonna be honest, I wasn’t sure what I was expecting, but that wasn’t it.”

Hazel Wynn ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧ | With Val, Lukas, and Doctor Moreau
Once Val had finished her piece and it was time to leave, Hazel stopped playing with a random trinket she had found on the desk and placed it back down, waiting for Val and Lukas to leave first before turning back to face the doctor in the doorway. “Have a nice day, Moreau, we’ll see each other again,” she told him and closed the door, leaving the doctor a chance to stew with his thoughts for awhile. Walking down the hallway beside Val and Lukas, Hazel slipped her hands into her pockets and listened. “We got him on edge now, chances are, he’s going to hurry and try to cover up whatever is going on here before we can discover what it is,” she commented. “He’ll move fast, but he’ll be sloppy, Val, tonight I think you and I should have a steak out, in the parking lot and see if he comes back, after hours,” Hazel continued, thinking quickly on the best possible way to handle this. They needed the files, that much was obvious, however Moreau was sure to try and cover his tracks now that he knew they were onto him, luckily this could work in their favor, as it would mean he’d be panicking and stressed, and therefore, sloppy. “For now, though, I think we should talk to the staff, we can split up, and cover more ground that way,” she continued, glancing back towards Val and Lukas to make sure they were in agreement, “You two stick together, we’ll meet back in the front room once we’re done.”

Goodi gave a little bounce as she was introduced to the detective, eyes wide and sparkling with friendliness as she took his hand and gave it a hearty shake. Her actions were soon followed by her brother, who had easily slid his way into the main area when he had heard visitors had arrived. His demeanor was significantly calmer, but there was that lazy smirk on his face that told it all - he was calm on the outside, but on the inside, there were probably a million things running through his mind, most of them probably trying to figure out all the ways he could successfully flirt with TJ and get a night or two out of him once the investigation was all over.
Neither, though, seemed to be frightened or in shock despite the fact that they had presumably been in contact with aliens. Though, no telling what sort of creatures or beings they ran into under the influence of their...pharmaceuticals. Aliens were probably like normal humans to them at this point; plus, they were already weird, and Tortie wouldn’t be surprised if, one day, it came out that these two were aliens themselves.
”I’ve got answers!” Goodi chirped, clearly excited about this all. She motioned toward a couch and a few chairs nearby. ”Make yourself at home, we could be here for a while. I mean, I’ve got a lot to say. What about you?” She leaned forward and elbowed her brother, who simply let out something that sounded like an odd mix of a laugh and a purr.
”I’ve got plenty as well, but I’ll let Goodi here start it off. I could make some tea or something while she does that,” Gifti offered, looking between both TJ and Tortie.
Now Tortie had learned a while ago that taking anything from these two, but especially Gifti, was a gamble, but this was her day off, and she was on rather decent friendly terms with these two, and after dealing with Bob earlier, Tortie wasn’t about to decline anything from Gifti. ”Make it strong, pretty boy, you know what I like.”
Gifti let out a bemused laugh under his breath. He then looked over at TJ, head tilted to the side. ”What about you? Same thing thing or something different?”

TJ blinked, caught off guard by the overwhelming friendliness that Goodi expressed readily to him. Being a detective often left him with...mixed reactions on how he was greeted, however he would’ve expected a...ahem, pharmacist, to be a little more hostile to him. Maybe it was because they thought he thought they were actually in the pharmaceutical industry. However all the same, he offered the girl a friendly smile and sat down at the couch, watching as Tortie interacted with the twins, and when he was offered something to drink, TJ paused. Something, deep in gut (read: not very deep at all) told him he’d be in for a wild ride if he accepted tea from these people, especially Tortie’s kind of tea. However, his grannie didn’t raise him to be rude. So instead ge simply smiled and shook his head. “No thanks, while I appreciate the offer, I have celiac disease and it makes it hard for me to accept food or drinks from other people,” he explained with a small gesture of his head. While that wasn’t the complete reason he couldn’t accept, it felt like the safer option to go with. “Now, anyways, about the night you were abducted, would you mind telling me what happened?” He asked, pen and paper in his hands as he looked at the twins expectantly.

Jules let the words sink in with a sinking horror. "Do you think we'll encounter baby crocodiles in here?"
Now, by all accounts, Jules would personally reason that baby crocodiles would be easier to deal with than adult ones. Unless they also followed that same little rule as other reptiles where they were more dangerous as children due to less self control. But Jules had personally only ever heard about that in reference to venomous snakes and lizards, and last Jules checked, crocodiles did not have venom.
Therefore, they would be easier to deal with. However, it was the mere fact that baby crocodiles meant multiple crocodiles. Which certainly meant a mother, or at least should if she wasn't a bad mom, and perhaps a father. Unless father crocodiles didn't protect their kids either. Jules didn't know anything about crocodiles. But he didn't like the idea of numbers of bitey creatures and not being able to see his feet in the same space.
He supposed none of that was the point really. Shaking his head slightly, he posed a different question to N. "Okay so how do we get the attention of a sewer croc? ... Do we even want to get the attention of a sewer croc?"

Cat blinked. It really wasn't the reaction she was expecting either. So, she nodded in agreement with Ty.
She had been expecting... something more dramatic? She wasn't entirely sure that was the word she wanted to use, but that kind of neutral quiet Norman just was really... wasn't it. It seemed too... calm? Cat wasn't sure calm was the word she wanted to use either, but she was having a difficult time sorting out what words she would ascribe to the situation.
She blamed the buzzing feeling that had appeared ever since she realized Norman walked through the restaurant's doors. It was anxiety and nerves, simple and put. And the small reaction to it didn't ease that feeling. It made it worse, so much worse, since it felt like so far off from what expectations were that not meeting them was worse than doing so. It was like one of those soda and Mentos experiments- when the big reaction doesn't happen when expected, it puts you on guard since it doesn't mean you're actually in the clear of it coming back when you try to approach.
"Should..." Cat started to say, mind considering that whole aspect. "Should one of us try to talk to him?" Or should they just let it settle for now and deal with it after the date and after the case Norman was there to deal with. She didn't really know whether it would be better to let it be for a while or if confrontation sooner would end well.
Who's cruel interference in the world had let Norman stumble upon their date before she and Ty could reveal it in their own comfort?

Ty Walters
Ty fidgeted a little, keeping an eye on Norman as his brother just kept eating the breadsticks and waiting, like some kind of clockwork. Eat breadstick, wait, thump his foot, repeat. Something definitely wasn’t right. ”...Yeahhh, we should talk to him, I’ll do it, he’s my brother,” Ty decided and got up from the table, he glanced back towards Cat for a moment before awkwardly walking over towards Norman. ”Hey there buddy, you doing okay?” He asked, head tilted to the side as he looked his brother over. Norman glanced at him from the corner of his eye. “Ty, I need to focus on my job right now, go back to your date.” Norman told him, voice short and to the point. Ty frowned, placing a hand on his hip. “You’re eating breadsticks, I think we’ve got a minute to talk,” he pointed out. Norman gave him a pointed look. “I’m on duty, so unless you have anything important to add to the case, or happen to be another detective, then I really shouldn’t be talking to you right now.” He explained simply. Ty watched for a moment longer before backing off. ”Alright, but we are gonna talk later, don’t forget that I know where you live,” he said, half jokingly as he walked back towards Cat. His gaze stayed on Norman until he was back at the table, where he sat back down and looked back to Cat. “He’s not talking, he said unless I’ve got information for the case, or I’m another detec-“ Ty froze, blinking, an idea suddenly forming. ”Heyyyy, wait a second, I might not be a detective, but you are,” he pointed out, grinning at Cat. “What if you just...offered to help him with the case for a bit? Kinda low key check if he’s okay?...I mean, I know we’re on a date and this isn’t really ‘date’ night material, but I promise I’ll make it up to you,” he rambled.

Did N think they would find baby crocodiles in the sewers? ... He wasn't entirely sure on if he believed that or not, since believing that would mean he fully believed that crocodiles lived in these sewers in the first place. Though, with human populations expanding more and more into animal habitats, he couldn't say he'd be surprised if they found a large reptile hiding out in here. Then again, crocodiles didn't naturally live up here, though he knew they were expanding their territories beyond just swamps due to urbanization.
"We potentially could. If there truly is a population down here, we could run into offspring. We may be better off finding babies rather than a full adult." An adult crocodile could prove to be more of a threat than a handful of babies. Offspring could still pose a danger to the two of them, but they were smaller, less aggressive, and getting away from them would probably be much easier than trying to get away from the range of an adult.
N shook his head at the next question. "I'd say we don't want to get their attention. I'd much rather we come across some other form of evidence, like a broken claw, or tooth. Or, for all we know, we'll just walk in the sewers for a little longer, find nothing, and leave knowing that there aren't any crocodiles down here." That seemed like the best case scenario for N. It would mean him and Jules wouldn't have to worry about getting themselves in and out of danger, and it would mean that any crocodile out there wouldn't have to live in these conditions as he could only imagine that being a crocodile in a sewer would be absolutely miserable.

It wasn’t very often that Goodi understood “big” words, but when TJ threw it out there that he had celiac disease, she knew exactly what he meant.
Excited that she knew what that was, Goodi gave a little bounce with a rolling purr coming off her tongue. ”Hey, I know some other people with that!” She exclaimed, making this seem like something she should be proud of. Well, maybe she should be proud of it, she knew what it was and what it meant, so she knew not to cross the line when it came to something as serious as this. It also meant Gifti knew not to push it as well, not that he pushed people to do things or try stuff.
As her brother went off to make the tea for those who wanted it and could have it, Goodi turned her attention back to TJ, eyes wide and curious thrumming through her. ”Well, we were just hanging out one night, and all of a sudden there was this really bright light! Then, in, like, two seconds, we weren’t here anymore, and there were these other dudes. I kinda thought they were just humans at first, but they weren’t! They looked kinda like humans, but they had, like, cat stuff, like ears and tails and whiskers and-”
”They were furries basically. Said something about how we belonged with them or whatever, the exact words are sort of a blur,” Gifti added as he walked back in with the tea. He sat it down on a nearby coffee table, gesturing toward the cups as he took his own. ”Yeah!” Goodi agreed, nodding vigorously. ”They did seem nice, though…” She trailed off and looked away, slowly reaching out to grab her own cup of tea as she tried to remember any other particular details about the abduction experience

TJ Kaminski
TJ had to admit, he was surprised to learn that apparently, Goodi and Gifti knew about celiac disease. It wasn’t often that he met people who actually knew what it was, let alone understood it. It was a pleasant surprise, to say the least. “It’s cool you guys know about it, most of the time I have to explain what it is and people still don’t entirely get it,” he explained, smiling over at the two oddly named... pharmacists. As much as TJ would’ve liked to continue and talk about celiac disease, he also recognized that he had a job to do and he needed to focus. So, as the two of them began their tale of alien abduction, TJ quickly began to scribble down notes. Beam of light... Furry aliens,,,possibly in a furry alien cult... Apparently nice furries though. “Do you remember what happened after? How’d you get back here?” TJ asked, looking up from his notepad to glance over the two twins. It was an interesting story to be sure, and TJ wasn’t entirely sure what to think about it yet.

At the last question, Goodi glanced over toward Gifti, gaze silently questioning him, wondering if he had an answer to give the detective.
In a silent motion, Gifti shook his head, telling Goodi all she needed to know - her brother didn't have an answer for that.
With a slow, defeated sigh, Goodi shook her head. "I'm...not sure. I guess we kinda just...woke back up here?" Her voice raised in pitch at the end, creating more of a question than an answer; once again she looked over at her brother who nodded his agreement.
"Yeah, we just sorta woke back up here. It was like we never left, but I know we were abducted." There was conviction in his voice, and it was clear that no matter what anybody else said he wasn't going to move on his stance. Goodi was the same way, she believed in her heart that they had been abducted. Maybe most of it was hazy, and the parts she did remember were vague at best, but something happened to her and her brother, she was sure of it.

TJ nodded, quickly writing everything down. It didn’t seem like these two knew much about their abduction, only that they swear it happened. Now, TJ wasn’t entirely sure whether or not he believed they were abducted, but it was entirely possible, and he wasn’t about to rule out aliens quite yet. ”Right, do you mind if I take a look around?” he asked, looking up from his notepad. ”I just want to check for any signs of a break in,” he added. If they had been abducted, TJ was fairly certain there would be some evidence left behind, and he was determined to find it.

Neither of the twins seemed to mind having some complete stranger come in and look around their apartment. Goodi shook her head enthusiastically. ”We don’t mind at all!”

TJ quirked his brow at the comment. “...Right, don’t worry, I’m sure I can fend off whatever the back room has to offer,” he stated calmly, pausing for a moment to glance behind him towards the area this mysterious back room should be. He waited for a moment before glancing towards Tortie and gesturing with his head for her to follow him. “Tortie, can I speak to you for a moment? Over here?” He asked, as he started towards a quiet corner of the room where Gifti and Goodi likely couldn’t hear him. They seemed like nice enough people, however that comment about the room left a bad taste in his mouth. No matter how cool of... pharmacists they were, he had a duty to make sure there was nothing dangerous going on here.

Unlike her partner, Tortie had no reservations about the back room that Gifti had mentioned. Honestly, if somebody asked her, she’d say that she was an expert on that back room considering she had been back there quite a few times. There wasn’t anything bad back there unless you were some kind of prude that lived under a rock and had never heard a single thing about recreational drugs and didn’t know where babies came from. She supposed she could understand why Gifti was handing out a warning, but there wasn’t a single bad thing in that room…
Wait.
Oh, hold on.
Just hang on a darn second.
Tortie had to reevaluate something real quick. She paused on her way over to TJ, face scrunched up in thought as she calculated everything up that she knew about that room. Everything was checking out as okay until she got to that one particular thing. A part of her hoped he wouldn’t be back there, but she knew there was no other place he’d be. She hadn’t noticed him in the front room with Goodi and Gifti, so that left him with only one other place to be.
In the back room.
See, Goodi and Gifti were something like ‘exotic organism dealers’, and their exotic trade didn’t just stop with plants. From what Tortie understood, the two twins had gotten into contact with somebody who sold cats. Selling cats wasn’t that big of a deal, but the kind of cat this person sold to Goodi and Gifti wasn’t your average, everyday house cat. This thing was, like, three feet tall with fangs the size of a very large knife. Tortie wasn’t one to be frightened by cats - she loved animals - but this cat gave her the creeps. It was like he was stalking her whenever they were around one another, looking at her like she was some sort of rabbit caught in his sights. And this cat somehow even made her feel like a rabbit, trapped with nowhere to run to, chosen as a predator’s next meal.
Maybe agreeing to all of this had been a bad idea. Usually her neighbors were good about keeping the cat away from Tortie, but this was something completely different than her coming over for a good time.
With a reluctant sigh, Tortie finally managed to make her way over to TJ, sure he was going to ask her to accompany him into the back room. ”Alright, listen, gonna make it real clear right now. We go into that back room, I won’t be able to give you any piece of my hot body because there’s gonna be a six ton monster in there trying to gnaw my leg off. If you can fend him off and keep me safe and we make it out alive, then there’ll be plenty of time to take you back to my place or we could even stay here, those two wouldn’t mind, I mean Gifti would probably even join in if you’d let him, but I guarantee you that cat is in the back and he’s the dragon hoarding their plant treasures,” she warned, looking TJ over intently as she spoke.

TJ Kaminski
TJ has been concerned before, however when Tortie went on to explain there was some big old cat in that room, his concern only grew. What kind of cat? He doubted they were dealing with another Winston situation here, and while TJ was all for having pets, his mind was already racing with possibilities. Was it a leopard? A tiger? One of those albino lions? What if it was some kind of liger or tigon or whatever they were called? Was he about to get eaten by some big old cat, while the two “pharmacist” owners just chilled out in the living room? Was this how they dealt with people questioning them? Feeding them to their tiger like some sort of Carole Baskin conspiracy theory? ...Yes, he had recently watched the Tiger King, which was probably why this was so concerning to him. Regardless of what it was though, TJ knew it was up to him to investigate. So he took a deep breath and nodded and glanced towards the back. “Alright, well, this is part of the job, maybe it’s...maybe it’s a nice kitty,” TJ offered weakly, looking back to Tortie for a moment as he braced himself and walked to the back room. He hovered in front of the door for a moment before exhaling and pushing the door open, preparing himself for whatever was inside.

Tortie immediately shook her head when TJ tries suggesting that the cat was possibly a ‘nice kitty’. He was probably nice to Goodi and Gifti, or that’s what Tortie assumed since the two kept him around and she had never heard them talking bad about the cat; they had even been surprised the first time he had went after Tortie like she was some kind of plump snack - which she was, but in a different way - so that all pointed to him being relatively nice, but Tortie had yet to see him acting civil, and she was convinced she never would see that in her lifetime. Disdain clear in her voice, Tortie muttered, ”He’s not a nice kitty.” Maybe he would like TJ, and maybe that would be enough to keep him away from Tortie. It was wishful thinking since he still acted out around her even when his actual owners were there, but a girl could always hope.
She followed behind him as he opened the door and walked in. Her steps were hesitant, slow as she stood behind TJ, eyes already checking out every nook and cranny in the dimly lit room, waiting for any signs of movement.
All was silent. All was still. There was no indication that the feline monster was around.
Tortie was about to let herself relax, but it was at that moment when she heard it - the faint rumble of a rattle, the sound of a creature watching them from the shadows.
”He’s here,” Tortie breathed, now on edge as she inched closer to TJ, still hoping that he’d bring her some type of protection from the predator in the darkness.

TJ stiffened as soon as Tortie confirmed her suspicions. The cat, whatever size it was, was apparently in here with them. As for what “here” was, TJ was still trying to figure that out. However, he knew it was pointless to stand there in anticipation, waiting for this supposed giant cat to just leap out and attack him or something like that. He was a detective, danger was all part of the job. So, he steadied his breath and flicked on the lights. “Here, kitty, kitty, kitty,” he called as he slowly moved further into the room, peering around every corner. “Pspsp pspsps,” he mimicked, keeping his eyes peeled as he searched for the cat.

A part of her wanted to get up and follow him, to support Ty while he tried to talk to Norman. The little voice inside her mind reminding her that it probably wouldn't be all that helpful kept her watching from a distance. She was stuck between trying to watch the expressions between the brothers and trying to keep a semblance of a private conversation present, but it was difficult to really shake habits when the conversation didn't seem to be going well.
She was stuck between feeling bad and... well, not feeling bad. The thing was, she did feel bad about not telling her co-worker she was dating his brother before he accidentally caught them on a date. It sounded ingenuine in her head, but she did mean it. She just... didn't feel bad about dating Ty. She probably should, on some level, but she really, really liked Ty. She adored his son, they were both so kind, honestly, Ty was a catch and she couldn't really understand how he had kept single for so long, but a part of her was glad over it because it meant that she had had a chance and-
Much to say, the wasn't sorry about dating him. Just, mayhaps, a little sorry about going behind his brother's back in order to do so.
As Ty came back to the table, she fought the urge to sink into her seat as she awaited the news. It wasn't the worst possible news, she supposed in the moment. Not talking was better than outright anger... maybe. She was trying to figure out how to respond to that though, before she noticed the glint in Ty's eyes.
It wasn't a bad idea, and she couldn't help the small smile that grew on her face as he suggested the idea. Norman had been the one to say he'd only talk to another detective in the first place. She didn't know whether that was on purpose or if he happened to forget that Cat was a detective as well, but if it was a way to talk to him, then she wouldn't mind taking it.
So, she nodded, heart softening a little further as he promised to make it up. "I don't think either of us could have planned for this. We'll make it up to each other, it'll be a joint effort," she said with a little grin on her own face. She moved up from her seat at the table, prepared to head over- but first, she swung around to where Ty was sitting and gave him a kiss on the cheek with a hushed, "Wish me luck," to accompany it.
She in-took a light breath and spun around to approach Norman, hopeful that this would turn out alright.
A few strides and she was there. Cat gave Norman a half-smile, slightly unsure. "So, Ty says you're looking for another detective to talk to bout the case?"

The words sunk into Jules after a moment. The "if there truly is a population down here" was really sticking out to him. Jules had almost forgot. They were coming down here based on an eye-witness rumor, and he was a detective. He should know how faulty eye-witness rumors were. He wanted to bang his head against a wall to make up for that oversight on his part, and he would have if the walls surrounding them weren't covered in a grime and mold and who knew what else.
He gave a mild sigh at the consideration before taking in N's next words. Which was, properly, greeted with another sigh- more of a groan really. "Right. That makes. A lot more sense." Common sense should have dictated Jules's thoughts, but he was willing to blame the smell down here. No reason they had to meet an alligator, but bringing back evidence that something was in there hopefully meant that they could just call animal control and hand the case over without the fear of getting a hand or foot torn off.
Albeit, if there truly wasn't any down here, it also meant that Jules was wading through the excess of the human body for no good reason. What would be worse- walking through this with no purpose or discovering crocodiles really did exist in here? He'd place bets on the former under the assumption they didn't actually cross paths with the predator... although, even with that consideration, Jules didn't know if he'd still rank it as worse.
Of course, he really wondered how much he'd hold up to that after hearing a low bellowing sound echo in the tunnels.
His eyes flicked over to N, good trusty N who used to have his back so very often, and had to ask, just to make sure Jules wasn't going insane. "You heard that too, right?"

So far there had been no signs of crocodile life. Here and there N had noticed evidence of rats, but that was to be expected. Rats were common in all areas of Brooklyn, whether it be above or underground.
What wasn’t common for rats, though, was them making a low, rumbling noise.
N stopped in his tracks. He turned to look at Jules, clearly unsure as to what that sound could be or where it had even originated from. ”Yeah,” he confirmed with a nod, ”I heard it, too.”

Norman Walters Aaaaaand there she was. Norman should have figured this wasn’t going to just go away if he tried to ignore it. Brow raised, he watched as Cat made her way over to him, folding his arms as she mentioned another detective. “Nope, just...waiting for that guy to come back so I can go into the kitchen and sort out these ghosts,” Norman stated quickly, gesturing with his thumb over towards the kitchen. ”Go enjoy your date,” he added, unable to exactly hide down the bite to his words. It was...hard to explain exactly why this was such an upsetting thing to him, and quite frankly Norman didn’t have the time right now to mull over his feelings, which meant, he would simply prefer it all went away until a later time.

He was a shadow in the dark, a phantom in the gloom. He was in his natural habitat, concealed by the lack of light in the room. From where he stood he could make out the silhouette of two figures, and one was familiar. All too familiar. He knew that voice, that smell. She was back in his territory, and he wasn’t pleased about it. The other silhouette was new to him. Curious, he kept himself from pouncing, but he was on guard, cautious, full of wary energy that flowed through his muscles. He crouched down to watch the two, waiting for the opportune time to reveal himself.
But that chance was taken from him when the lights suddenly came on. A hiss escaped him and he rushed forward, startled by the sudden brightness. His long legs propelled him forward, large ears falling flat against his head, eyes narrowing to let out some of the light.
Running on instinct rather than logic, he rushed forward out into the open, angered by the sudden flash of light. With fur bristled and jaw agape to expose fangs, the long-legged serval revealed himself, hissing venomously at the two people who had entered his domain.

TJ Kaminski
TJ yelped in surprise when a cat - no wait, it was more than just a cat, it was a serval - leapt out at him and Tortie and hissed, however, after a pause, TJ realized that the cat wasn’t attacking him], the cat was just kind of...angrily hissing, which might’ve been a warning, but TJ also happened to think it was a good sign. Usually animals didn’t just attack for no reason, it was something he learned at the farm. So, pausing, TJ looked down at the serval and offered a small smile, slowly lowering his body until he was kneeling in front of it. ”Hey there kitty kitty,” he introduced himself. ”I’m TJ, and you sir, are a very handsome kitty.”

His first instinct was to use his powerful back legs to leap at the intruders. His second instinct was to stay where he was and defend his territory through pure intimidation, but something stopped him from doing either of those options. Instead he was met by a curious young man who seemed to have no ill intentions or feelings toward him. This stopped the serval in his tracks, his head tilting to the side as he stared at the man, wide-eyed, as the human lowered his body. Weedyboi twitched his tail, suspicious, but stayed where he was, offering up no signs of an immediate attack.
He stretched out his neck, just about to get a good sniff of the newcomer when a shrill, familiar voice caused him to jerk his head upward and curl his lips, fangs exposed as a growl formed in his throat.
"Hey, what are you doing? He's going to eat you, and that's supposed to be my job!"
Weedyboi had no idea what the woman had said, he was a serval and therefore could not comprehend a whole English sentence, but he knew that this was rabbit girl, and rabbit girl was a prey-scented nuisance that he needed to get.
With that growl still in his throat, the spotted feline curled his muscles into a crouch, body preparing for a leap toward the rabbit.

TJ Kaminski TJ smiled lightly as the cat, his shoulders instantly relaxing. ”D’aww, you’re not so bad, are you?” He cooed out. ”You’re just a friend..” He trailed off as he smiled down towards the feline. By the way Tortie spoke of him, TJ was expecting to get eaten alive or something like that, as soon as he stepped through the door, but instead, the serval was...nice. Now granted, it was still a serval and while TJ knew that people could own them as pets, he still wasn’t personally on board with it. However so far, this serval had given him no reason to- Just then Tortie let out a shrill screech about him eating TJ or something like that and the serval...well the serval acted like a serval. “Tortie...” TJ paused and put a hand behind him, gesturing for her to stop. “Calm down, you’re going to agitate him, he can sense your nerves, and if a predator picks up on that, it’s more likely to attack,” he told her pointedly, eyes locked on the serval as it got ready to pounce. ”You need to calm down.”

It wasn't like Tortie was scared of the serval or anything, she just...well, they didn't have a good relationship with one another. The thing always tried to come at her, threatening to chew off her limb or something, and Tortie preferred having all her limbs attached. She'd still be beautiful with a missing arm or leg, but she had lived her whole life with all for appendages, and she'd rather continue her life that way.
Rather than fear, Tortie was more or less wary of the cat, apprehensive. She just wanted him to leave if he was ever in her vicinity, and right now, they were in a room together, and she knew she'd be a target soon enough. That only proved to be true when she noticed the cat inching toward TJ. Within moments the serval gathered himself, eyes narrowed and staring Tortie down. She took a step back, shaking her head. This wasn't the first time something like this had happened. "How do you expect me to calm down when he's looking right at me?" She questioned sharply, voice pitched. "He's always had it out for me, like he wants to bite off this beautiful face of mine! I kinda need my -" Her next sentence was cut short when the cat darted past TJ, making a direct path toward Tortie.

TJ Kaminski
Immediately when the cat leapt out at Tortie, TJ jumped into action, grabbing the feline before he had the chance to get to her, expecting the serval to hiss and scratch, TJ braced himself for the upcoming attacks while lifting the cat up into his arms. ”That’s not how we treat people, sir,” he scolded the serval in a similar way that a mother might scold her children. This cat was not his, and he knew that, but TJ liked to think he had enough experience with animals to work with even the most wild of felines. ”Where are your manners?”
