”And I think that’s everything, you already know where your desk is, so I guess this tour is done,” Captain Wynn spoke up over the noise of the bullpen, clasping her hands together as she looked over at TJ with a smile.

TJ smiled back, looking around at all the different desks as he tried to memorize each one. Making a good impression on all the other detectives was imperative if he wanted his newest transfer to be a success...unlike his others, but in his defense, the other five precincts had not been a good fit. Especially precinct 27, those guys had been mean, which was really unfortunate given the fact that actual legit number wise, TJ vastly preferred 27 to 99. 99 had literally two nines back to back and nine was the grossest number out there, even more gross than 6 which was also a very gross number if you asked TJ.

Oh gross, he just realized that this was his sixth transfer, that meant he was knee deep in both the disgusting swamp numbers of 99 and 6.

But anyways, he really had to focus if he wanted to make a good impression, he could gag about the numbers later.

Looking back towards his new captain, TJ’s eyes widened when he realized she was still talking.

“Crap, just nod along and pretend like you were listening the whole time, that’ll work, right?” He questioned himself, trying not to give away his panic over the fact that he had basically just ignored his commanding officer when she could’ve been talking about something actually important, not like his dumb thing with numbers...which was also important, just not important right now, he could get back to that later when he wasn’t supposed to be focusing on something else-dang it TJ, you’re doing it again, focus.

Smiling slightly, TJ nodded along to whatever Captain Wynn was saying, which at the very least it didn’t seem as if she had noticed that he had stopped paying attention so that was good.

”So that’s why I want to reassure you that this precinct is the right one for you, after all, if you’re in the nine-nine, you’re part of the wynning team,” Captain Wynn paused after that, looking at TJ expectedly.

TJ froze.

Why was she looking at him like that, had she finally caught on to the fact that he hadn’t been listening? Crap, think TJ, think, think, think, think-no wait, stop thinking, this isn’t getting you anywhere, just say something, go off of instincts.

”Yes, we win against all the bad...people.”

Instincts bad, never do that again.

Captain Wynn’s face fell, though she did a decent enough job of hiding it. With a sigh she nodded and stepped back. ”Yep, thats our job, alright I’ve got some stuff to attend to so I’ll let you get your desk all figured out, find Tortie if you need something, okay?” She asked rhetorically, already making her way through the bullpen and into her desk.

TJ let out a nervous laugh in farewell, waiting until the captain was in her office and out of earshot before he let his shoulders relax, sighing as he dipped his head down to stare into his box of belongings. ”Great first impression TJ,” he muttered under his breath as he moved towards his desk and sat down, placing the box on top of his desk as he began taking things out and sorting through them.

Maybe it was best if he just tried to get 96 to take him back, sure they hadn’t been very happy with him but he could probably smooth things over with enough groveling, that would work, right?

...Nah, they’d only take him back to demote him and humiliate him again, he was better here.

At the 99.

It was probably concerning just how calm the rabbit was for being stuffed inside a shirt, but the rabbit was extremely calm for being stuffed inside a shirt. Which probably meant the rabbit was either dead or unfortunately used to this. But Tortie was sure she could feel the rabbit still breathing, so that was a good sign. She would be absolutely distraught if she somehow killed the bunny. That was the last thing she wanted to do. She really didn’t want to have to attend a funeral after work today.

”...Hey, Tortie, hey.”

The young woman was snapped out of her thoughts when the familiar voice of her cousin cut through her thoughts. She turned her eyes over to Roswell, head tilting to the side in question. ”Hmm?”

Tortie could see that Roswell was staring down at her shirt that was hiding a rather large rabbit, a question clearly formulating in the back of his mind. ”So, uh, how are you going to even get that thing inside? Everybody’s going to see that you have a huge thing in your shirt,” Roswell pointed out, clearly thinking that his cousin was going to fail in her rabbit smuggling operation.

See, this was where she knew her cousin had absolutely zero faith in her. She had thought this through a lot beforehand, and she knew just what she was going to do and say for any kind of question or comment that could be thrown at her, and honestly, she couldn’t believe that Roswell clearly thought she couldn’t pull this off. It was insulting on her behalf. ”Ros, listen, I’ve got this covered. I’m just going to tell everybody I’m pregnant,” she replied with confidence in her words.

Roswell simply gave his cousin an exasperated look, shaking his head. ”I hate to break it to you, but everybody knows you weren’t pregnant yesterday and now you look about ready to pop. I’m not a pregnancy expert or anything, but that’s not how this works.”

The young woman gave a huff, shooting a glare toward her cousin. ”I’ll just say it’s twins.”

”Tortie, that’s not how this wo-”

”Anyway, I’m ignoring you because I’m pregnant and the stress is really bad for the babies.”

She heard a sigh come from her cousin as she quickened her pace. It wasn’t long before she was waddling straight into work, rabbit still stuffed inside her shirt, and the moment she entered the main area she called out, ”Listen up, 99 pals, your favorite friend Tortie here is now pregnant and you’re all invited to the baby shower. All you gotta do is bring snacks, and anybody who doesn’t abide to those rules will be de-invited to the shower, okay? Okay. Simple rules, really.”

Between a low grown from Roswell Tortie could also make out an already done sigh coming from nearby, followed by the familiar voice of N. ”It’s too early for this already, guys, seriously. Can’t we be normal here for once, give the new guy a chance to acclimate?”

Tortie rolled her eyes, and if it weren’t for running the risk of the rabbit falling out if she didn’t have her hand pressed up against him, she would have put a hand on her hip. ”I’m sure the new guy is very happy for me and my unborn child unlike some people.” Seriously, why were people so ready to dampen her mood? She was just trying to spread the wonderful cheer of new life around with her precinct 99 buddies.
