”Would it make you feel more comfortable if I talked bad about him?” Val had joked in response to Lukas with a laugh “I don’t think Hazel would approve. But yes, you should come and meet him; I think he’d like that.”
Not to mention the fact that he was not an official member of the 98 squad and therefore he was someone she could talk to about TJ if she needed to without fear of the gossip spreading through the precinct. After all, Roswell knew and it seemed like Jules did too. Val had to contain the rumour before it spread, and Lukas was ideal as a confidante. There was a danger of him telling Hazel, of course, but Val trusted that he wouldn’t. Val knew what Hazel would react like if she found out for sure about what was happening, and Val also knew Lukas knew it too. She trusted him not to let that happen.
Soon, though, Lukas had retrieved his stick and it was time to head out to the hospital. Which to be fair, Val was dreading, but she tried not to think about it. She couldn’t let anybody know how she was feeling because after all this time it was stupid. She especially couldn’t show it in front of Lukas, who had gotten off so much more lightly than her after that terrible failed arrest.
_________
Once they got there, Val climbed out of the car alongside Hazel, pulling her leather jacket slightly tighter around her as she listened to Hazel’s words. The detective’s eyes scanned over the hospital, and she couldn’t avoid the sudden feeling in her throat like she couldn’t breathe, the sensation in her lungs like she was drowning. Voices rang in her head, saying that her lips were blue, they were going to have to intubate.
She curled her hands slightly into a fist, grabbing her sleeves a little.
“Yeah, this place is freaky,” Val agreed quickly, distaste lacing her voice “let’s solve this as quickly as we can so we can leave.”
Val, like Hazel, did not like hospitals. She never had, but her experience a few years ago had truly affected her even further, made her hate them even more than she had before. Still, they had a job to do, and at least Valentina could focus on that.
Still, she headed with Luka’s and Hazel through the glass doors, which were covered in an unsettling thin layer of grime, into the hospital’s reception area. A young receptionist looked up from behind the counter, plastering on a smile but looking almost surprised to see anyone in what seemed to be a relatively quiet place for a hospital.
“Welcome to Westview General Hospital, how can I help you?” the receptionist chirped, probably slightly too excitedly in all honestly
Val had no room for smiling or small talk, instead just pulling out her badge to show the receptionist.
“I’m Detective Ruiz with the 99th Precinct, and this is Captain Hazel Wynn. We have some questions we’d like to ask; we need to speak to the hospital administrator or the member of staff in charge of the morgue and autopsy technicians. Preferably both.” Val explained
The receptionist’s eyes flickered to the badge and Val could have sworn the smile faltered for just a moment, but before Val could really gauge her reaction she was already reaching for the phone to call the appropriate members of staff.

Hazel Wynn ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧ | With Val, Lukas, and the receptionist
Though customarily, Hazel probably should’ve been the one to introduce them, considering her rank, she was content to let Val take the lead, it was her case after all, Hazel was here as the secondary, besides it was always rather intriguing to her to see her detectives in action, it was a reminder to her that she had picked the best and that she really needed to tag along more often. Eyes narrowed a little, Hazel watched the receptionist, she seemed friendly enough, overly perky honestly, Hazel had never been a fan of overly perky people, they were like cotton candy, too sweet that it became sickening. Beyond that, she also seemed a little nervous once Val mentioned why they were here and what they were here for. That was something to note, even if their presence was naturally a little intimidating, her behavior seemed off to Hazel. “Thanks,” she commented once the receptionist got to work. While they waited, Hazel took a step back and glanced around the waiting room, it was weirdly empty of patients right now, which also seemed odd to her. She furrowed her brow, making a mental note of that as she leaned over to Lukas. “Place is empty,” she whispered. Lukas let out a small hum in response, his posture rigid at best. Hazel didn’t blame him, hospitals weren’t really a great place for him either. Nudging Val, she jerked her head towards the empty waiting room. “That’s a little weird, isn’t it? No patients.”

Bob backed up a few steps the moment TJ shoved his badge into his face. He blinked, not sure how to react to such an act of aggression for a moment until words came to mind. He shook his head. ”My, my, do you always do these things aggressively? It’s not a very good business practice, and trust me, I know all about business and what you should and shouldn’t do. If you want any pointers, do let me know, but I digress,” Bob paused in his talking to jump back to the true topic at hand.
He tilted his head to the side as he looked at TJ rather incredulously. ”You’re taking those claims seriously? I can tell you who’s making them, and they’re not exactly all there, if you know what I mean,” Bob gave a faint laugh as he pointed toward his temple in a silent way to say the ones making the claims were out of their minds. ”I would expect detectives to take on more...serious cases, but it is what it is.” He shrugged, clearly not caring about this investigation.

TJ narrowed his gaze as he looked at the oddly dorito shaped man - and not in the hot “Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, triangle shaped super model made into a meme” kind of way either, Bob was more of a....well, not a sexy dorito, TJ would say that - and tried not to let his irritation show as he put his badge away. “It’s not really about business, I’m a detective, not a Girl Scout-“ because everyone knew Girl Scouts were the finest businessmen in the world. ”Listen, Mr Dorito, it’s my job to take every case we get seriously, including ones about possible abduction,” TJ started, gesturing with his hands until finally he placed them in his jacket pockets. “So I’m gonna need you to tell me everything you know about the abduction claims,” he added coolly, glancing towards Tortie for some form of emotional support. Already he could tell that Bob here wasn’t the type of guy to cooperate, which meant TJ was in for a long ride, luckily he did have Tortie with him, and even if the two of them had to face off against a clear alien nonbeliever, TJ knew he could get through this. ...Hopefully. Bob was testing him already and he had hardly spent two minutes with the man.

Cat had no idea why Norman was there. She wished she had paid just a little more attention to what her coworker's cases were and what they were working on she could have at least been prepared about this, but she wasn't. Now sitting here and surprised as her date's brother appeared in the restaurant.
Or rather, at their table as of now.
She faltered, ever so slightly, before finding a voice. Though organizing words to convey surprise was still a little difficult. "I- we-we could ask you the same question?" The lilt at the end of her sentence turned it to a question and inwardly, she winced. "I- We- I didn't think you'd be here- I don't remember hearing about any recent cases for restaurants...?"
Sure, she avoided the actual question, but she wasn't entirely sure about how Norman would react to hearing about the fact they were on there on a date. And he would find out about their relationship because of a case he was on. Oh god.

Jules gave a small nod, putting his trust in N. Breathe through his mouth. That wasn't all that different from breathing through his nose, if only needing a little more focus for this new concept. He could do that plenty well.
Then there was more encouragement. Jules took a long glance at N before stating out loud, "You're too good of a person, N, sometimes I wonder if you're even real." Who else would promise to keep quiet on this? To reassure Jules like this? No one, Jules decreed. Really, a solid majority of them would indeed laugh, take a picture if they, and tell the others no matter what. N was a hero and it was a shame the world hadn't realized it yet.
That being said, N went down the drain and Jules had to follow.
And in following what N had previously suggested, once those ugly rubber boots he was wearing hit the sewer walkway, Jules took in a deep breath of sewer air.
And immediately made choking noises as he very much did not breathe properly enough. Hacking up air for a little bit, he found himself with no choice but to lean against the ever so unpleasing, ever so slightly moldy walls to get a grip. In which, he was forced to breathe through his nose and- oh. Oh, yeah, that stench was horrible and Jules was not having a fun time.
Once Jules caught his breath, he breathed out, "Sewers are so gross."

Hospitals were Val’s least favourite place for many, many reasons. The first and most obvious was the experience she’d gone through which had led to the tracheotomy scar in her neck, the experience she and Luka’s shared. The second was the issue of her identity. It had been years since she’d run away and she had more documents than she could count under her name name, and the name change had been all legal. But despite that, she always feared her old name coming up.
When Hazel indicated the empty waiting room, Val’s eyes scanned the empty seats and she gave a tense nod in response.
“Yeah, and those magazines are all years old,” she said as her eyes settled on the magazine rack near the seat “they haven’t had enough people using these waiting rooms to bother replacing them in a long time.”
Clearly not enough people frequented these waiting rooms for it to be a concern. A very clear sign that this place was getting something of a bad reputation, and Val was starting to think that whatever was happening at this hospital had been going on far longer than they’d originally thought.
Soon enough, an elevator nearby opened its doors to allow a man to exit. Val took him in immediately as he approached; he wasn’t wearing medical gear but more of a suit, so she guessed this was the hospital administrator. He looked about middle aged and was kind of tall. He had a wiry frame and piercing eyes that unsettled Val a little. This man set off some kind of alarm bells for Val, and she was not a fan. She exchanged looks with both Hazel and Lukas to communicate this gut feeling to them.
The man approached, first extending a hand to Hazel.
“Welcome, Captain Wynn. Miss Young just briefed me on your arrival,” the man said with a nod to the receptionist- for whom they now had a name.
Next his gaze shifted to Val, and the moment his eyes settled on her that discomfort rose up again. It felt like his eyes were piercing through her, nailing her to the floor so she couldn’t move. But Val knew better than to show this, and when he offered his hand she shook it briskly and coolly, retracting her hand as soon as she could.
“And you must be Detective...?” the man said, gaze shifting in the direction of the aforementioned Miss Young as he blanked on Val’s name
“Ruiz, sir,” Val supplied, if anything to stop the awkward delay.
She did carefully note the fact that he seemed to know the Captain’s name much more readily than Val’s. Had he truly forgotten it after the receptionist’s quick briefing when she called him down, or was there another reason he seemed to known who Hazel was?
He then paused finally to introduce himself to Lukas too, though it didn’t seem he’d been expecting a third member of the team.
“Ah, Miss Young didn’t tell me there was a third member of the party. And you are?”
With that out of the way, the man seemed to finally see fit to introduce himself.
“My name is Mr Moreau,” he explained as he gestured towards a doorway and led the group down a side-corridor. “I’m the hospital’s administrator, so if you’re looking for records or information about anything that happens in this hospital, you have the right man.”
There was a few more seconds of silent walking down a labyrinth of hallways before they finally came to a door with Mr Moreau’s name on it. He pushed it open and gestured for the group to walk in ahead of him. Val let the Captain and Lukas go in ahead but held back, not trusting this man an iota, so Mr Moreau could enter first.
Inside it was largely as one would expect. Quite a large office, reflecting Mr Moreau’s seniority in the hospital. Comfy chairs, a big desk, a good computer. Filing cabinets lining the walls, which Val eyed with some interest. How she would love to search around in there; she had a pretty decent feeling one of the files in there would hold some dirt on this hospital.
But Mr Moreau gestured for the trio to take a seat in the chairs opposite his desk and so Val was drawn from her thoughts, taking a chair as instructed but not sitting until Hazel had. Valentina was protective of her captain, and there was something about this Mr Moreau that set off alarm bells.
The man in question sat in his own chair on his side of the desk, in front of his computer. He then leaned forward, resting his elbows in the table and forming a tent with his fingers, resting his chin on them as he observed the team sitting in front of him.
“So, how can I help the 99th precinct today?” he asked, settling his gaze mainly on Hazel at this point.

Norman Walters
Norman raised his brow. “Well, it’s kind of a weird case,” he admitted with a shrug. ”Apparently this place is haunted, or at least experiencing some paranormal activity in the kitchens, now I’m no ghostbuster, but I mean, who else you gonna call?” Norman explained, looking over the table for a moment or so before grabbing a chair from the nearby table, turning it so the back faced the table, and propped it, sitting down with his arms resting on the back of the chair. “I did some of my own supernatural sleuth work when I was a teen, so I jumped at a chance to take this case,” Norman added, directing the comment towards Cat. “Plus I’ve been here before and the food is really good.”Just as he said that, his eyes caught sight of the breadsticks on the table and casually leaned over his chair to grab one and take a big bite out of it, waving it from Ty to Cat as he continued. ”So are you guys here for like...business? Gonna set up a pet photography thing? Or...?” Norman asked, looking between the two of them. Ty remained quiet, looking from Norman, to the breadstick he kept waving around, and then to Cat, smiling awkwardly.

Hazel Wynn ƤαƖƖαѕ ✧ | With Lukas, Val, & Doctor Moreau
Hazel glanced towards the magazines, a small frown pulling at the corner of her lips. She was making mental notes of everything that seemed off in this case. The hospital was giving her some major red flags, however for now she played it cool and simply observed, waiting for the doctor to show up, and when he finally did, she quirked her brow and gave him a stiff, professional nod in greeting. “Nice to meet you, Doctor Moreau,” she greeted with a nod. Doctor Moreau...that name sounded familiar. She had never been here before, nor seen his face, so it was unlikely that it was this doctor in particular that stood out to Hazel, it was simply something about the name. She was pretty sure she had read it before. As Hazel thought, Lukas gave a curt nod. “Lukas,” he supplied an introduction, not bothering to give any other information beyond his name. All he really needed to know was that he was with Hazel and Val, nothing else. ... That’s when it came to her and she snapped her fingers. “The island of Doctor Moreau!” She exclaimed loudly. “Doctor Moreau was the mad scientist in H.G Wells’ book: The Island of Doctor Moreau, he created human like hybrids from animals, that’s where I’ve heard that name before,” Hazel commented, smiling proudly at herself, hands on her hips as she stared triumphantly at Doctor Moreau. ”You don’t happen to have human-animal hybrids hanging ‘round here, do you?” She asked jokingly, with a smirk on her face. She had read all of H.G Wells works, however her parents had made her read the Island of Doctor Moreau multiple times back in her childhood years. They had had some sort of weird obsession with that story in particular, maybe that was another reasons Hazel didn’t like anyone with a “doctor” in front of their name. Her smile faltered as an awkward silence filled the air. “Ehem, well, anyways, back to the point,” she commented, lowering her arms as she gestured for Val and Lukas to follow her as Doctor Moreau led them down the hallways. Once they reached the room, Hazel took a moment to look everything over, making sure to pin everything she could to memory before glancing down to the chair opposite of Moreau. “Right, well this is actually Detective Ruiz’s case, I’m just the secondary, so I’ll let her do the talking,” she explained, and took a step back, gesturing for Val to take the lead with a quick, reassuring nod of her head.

The case description at least solidified there was something going on in the restaurant. Explained the seater's nervousness and warning of a less-than-functional kitchen. Cat supposed haunted was a better excuse than unorganized or understaffed at any rate, even if strange. But the knowledge behind those happenings didn't settle her in the slightest.
Not because the building being haunted opened up its own can of worms (seeing as it very much did), but the bigger issue confronting them at the moment was now sitting at the table oblivious to what he had stumbled upon.
Obviously that was the order people dealt with things- personal relationships and then the threat of ghosts.
In her defense though, a ghost that was threatening kitchen staff really didn't place as high on list of priorities when Norman was glancing between her and Ty and Ty was glancing between her and Norman and she was glancing between Norman and Ty and there was really no way to ease him into the answer. But Ty wasn't answering so Cat assumed she would need to instead.
Given Cat wasn't quite willing to lie to Norman about this, but she didn't know how to actually explain she was on a date with Ty, Cat attempted to find the words to explain. She settled, and stumbled, on "Ah- no. No it's not- it's not for business." And then she paused, unsure how to continue that train of thought. So she just. Didn't.
And then she mentally screamed at herself for being so vague, but it felt to late to add anything more to that statement without feeling just a bit silly. Plus, there was always the chance Norman would be able to piece it out for himself, with the main theory rejected and not very many other reasons for two people to be dining in a restaurant like this... right?

Norman Walters ”Hmm, bread’s a little stale,” Norman commented vaguely as he looked over the breadstick. It wasn’t great, but hey, it was still bread. So with a rather casual shrug he just took another bite and reached to grab another one for later. The manager was supposed to come out and meet with him to discuss the paranormal activities going on, but until then, he had some free time. ”So not business then? That makes sense, do you even have a pet, Cat?” He asked, looking towards her. If she did have any pets, she wasn’t one of those people who showed off pictures of their pet and talk about them nonstop. Norman wasn’t afraid to admit he would probably be that person if he had a pet of his own. ”So anyway, what are you guys doing here? Is it related to a case or-“ “It’s a date, Norman,” Ty interrupted bluntly. “We’re-“ he gestured between himself and Cat. “On a date.”Norman froze. Oh.

Tortie could already tell that this was going to be a long day, which usually was a good thing when it was her day off, but that wasn’t the case here. She’d say it wasn’t all that bad if not for the fact that now she had to deal with Bob more than she already did, but at least she had TJ here to share this oh so fabulous experience with.
Realizing that Bob wasn’t going to be cooperating, Tortie let out a sigh. She needed to get information out of Bob one way, so she needed to play her cards right. ”Ya know, if you don’t tell us what you know, we’ll just have to go straight to Goodi and Gifti, and I’m sure they won’t have the story as straight as you would.”
This seemed to have caught Bob’s attention. A thoughtful look crossed his features before he gave a slight nod. ”Right, right...they would mess up the details,” he murmured. ”Plus, I’m much better at giving stories than most people. Now,” he looked over at TJ and made a motion with his hand, ”you may start writing down notes or whatever it is that you detectives do. I’ve mostly just heard talk of there apparently being aliens coming and bringing my renters aboard their ship for the night. I personally haven’t noticed any harm come to anybody, and haven’t heard anything about injuries, and in my personal opinion it’s all a bunch of made up stories or some outside influence triggering all this.”
While Bob wasn’t exactly the most helpful, at least he was talking and giving something to the case. It was the least Tortie could ask for right now.

N shook his head in slight amusement at Jules comment. He did his best to be a “good man” as his former partner had put it, but he wouldn’t say he was anything extraordinary or anything like that. He was simply being considerate to what Jules wanted and didn’t want. He wasn’t going to do the opposite of what was requested of him. It wasn’t in his nature. Or at least, it wasn’t with Jules, not with the people he worked with now.
The sewers were certainly someplace N did not find pleasant. The stench was terrible, even as he breathed through his mouth rather than his nose, but he bravely went on, knowing that this would be over with by the end of the day and he could then go home to wash up. The stench wouldn’t last forever, and that was good enough to know. It was just enough to keep him going.
Well, there was also the fact that this was a case and he took all his cases seriously, but enough of that.
N briefly paused in his steps to turn and look to his partner. It was clear that Jules was struggling, and N couldn’t blame him. This wasn’t fun. ”They're gross,” he admitted, agreeing with the other man. ”But necessary when humans feel the need to over populate an area.” In a better world there wouldn’t need to be such drastically disgusting things, but unfortunately, this was the world they lived in, and even sadder was the fact that, if creatures lived down here, it was only because they didn’t have enough room in their own natural habitats and had to settle for literal crap.

TJ jotted down the information that Bob gave him. It wasn’t much, but it was a start. ”Thank you, Mr. Dorito for your input, now if it’s alright, I’d like to talk to the tenants and get their side of the story,” he explained as he studied his notes. He still would need to talk to the people living here, both the ones that were abducted - or at least claimed to be - and those that weren’t, as a detective, it was important to get all the facts and every account of the story. ”Tortie mentioned some people earlier, Goodi and Gifti, I’d like to start with them, which apartment is theirs?” TJ asked, glancing up from his notes to look over towards the odd landlord, glancing back towards Tortie for a moment as well.

Tortie noticed that Bob seemed a bit hesitant when TJ asked about visiting both Goodi and Gifti. There was a shifting in his gaze that she caught on to, a slight movement from where he sat that made him just give off odd vibes. Not that he never gave weird vibes, but Tortie was on to him. He was being weirder than usual, and more annoying. Which, usually Tortie could stand being around Bob for a little bit, but right now she was just ready to leave.
With that she motioned for TJ to follow her. ”I’ll take you,” she piped up before Bob could open his mouth to respond. She made a move to leave the room, but before she did she turned and made a quick waving gesture toward Bob. ”I’ll be back for rent or whatever in like two weeks.” And with that she headed on out, hoping TJ was with her.

Keeping an eye on Bob for a little bit longer, TJ looked back to Tortie and followed her out, waiting until they were well out of Bob’s ear and eyesight before dramatically shivering. “Man that guy was annoying, and really unhelpful, honestly,” TJ said, needing to get it out a little. He truly hadn’t expected Bob to be so...well, so annoying. He had been rooting for him, he really had, but that got harder as soon as he met him. ”Anyways, you mentioned Goodi and Gifti, weird names aside, tell me a little bit about them so I know what to expect before we meet them,” TJ suggested, already preparing to take some mental notes of the other weird people from Tortie’s complex. Goodi and Gifti already had...weird names to say the least, and then you added that with Bob’s...Bobness, and he was beginning to feel like this apartment complex explained a lot about Tortie.

Tortie let out a breath of air as TJ commented on Bob's annoying tendencies. Sometimes he wasn't too bad, Tortie could tolerate him - she was annoying herself, so she wasn't so hard on Bob at times - but today she just hadn't been able to put up that wall of toleration. Maybe it was because she was with somebody who was actually cool, and being around somebody she could actually enjoy was making it harder to put up with whatever crap Bob wanted to pull.
Without missing a beat when TJ asked about Goodi and Gifti, Tortie commented, "They sell drugs and get away with it, so they gotta be some kind of masterminds, but they're pretty chill people." She then looked over at TJ with one of those classic Tortie smirks as she added, "Gifti's pretty smooth, too, an amazing kisser. It's always a good night when I can get him to come over. I don't think Goodi is into all that, though, which is a shame, she's really cute." Though, thinking about it, hooking up with Goodi would be sort of weird. She had a childlike curiosity about her in a way, a youthful excitement that wasn't allowed to be corrupted. Then again, she was a drug dealer, so Tortie was well aware Goodi had a more...'darker' side to her. Maybe she was more corrupt than Tortie could even imagine her being.

TJ furrowed his brow when Tortie mentioned a couple of causal drug dealers who had apparently, never gotten caught. Apparently, Tortie wasn’t no snitch, even when she actively worked as the police captain’s personal assistant. Good to know. “Uh, what uh, what kind of drugs? Because Tortie, I’m pretty sure as a cop, I’m gonna have to arrest them for this,” he said, sweating slightly. He didn’t really like to think about that. TJ always kind of felt like he could be arresting people who actually deserved it instead, murderers, kidnappers, abusers, you know the type. There were a lot of things to arrest people for, but this kind of fell into a sketchy area. “Unless uh, you mean like, pharmacists,” TJ added, giving an over dramatic fake cough, hoping Tortie got the idea. “It would be unethical of me to arrest a couple of pharmacists just doing their pharmacist thing, after all.”

Tortie shrugged and gave TJ a lazy handwave. "Don't worry about it. They're totally pharmacists." Even if the twins were weird, Tortie wasn't about to rat them out. They were good people, weird, but good, and it wasn't like they only sold drugs. They specialized in a lot of stuff, though the more Tortie thought about it, the more she realized that a lot of their stuff was bordering on "black market", or at least riding that line of "is this appropriate". But, hey, she enjoyed what she got from them, and she saw no problem with their specialties. They were just out here trying to make a living, and Tortie couldn't fault them for that.
After a minute or so of walking, they finally made it to the room the two twins shared. Tortie looked from the door and then over to TJ. "You ready?" Yet, before she could get an answer out of him, she knocked on the door. "Hey! It's me, Tortie, I brought a hot friend, too."

Moreau’s eyebrow had simply quirked slightly at Lukas’ simple and to-the-point introduction, but he didn’t comment. Val had been trying to take note of anything further in the waiting room but found nothing she hadn’t noticed before. Instead, she focused on the journey to the man’s office.
The files continued to intrigue her, but when Moreau spoke up and Hazel directed the conversation to Val’s control, the young detective had to tear herself away from the idea of getting a look at those files. If there was anything to hide in there she didn’t believe Moreau would let them look easily.
“Very well,” Moreau had responded to Hazel, those piercing eyes shifting back to Val “Detective Ruiz, you have the floor.”
Val has to decide how to approach this. Moreau didn’t seem nervous, which wasn’t ideal. He seemed far too in control of the conversation and she didn’t like that one but. The detective never liked the people she interviewed to feel too comfortable. She never breached any rules about appropriate conduct in interview, of course, but there was something concerning to her about someone who seemed to calm and collected when a detective and a police captain had shown up at his hospital.
Was it like he’d been expecting it?
Val had to keep her cool, here. Be firm. This did not seem to be one of the times she could afford to be too friendly.
“With all due respect, sir, you’re responsible for managing this hospital. You’re a businessman at the core. So as a businessman I’m sure you’d appreciate it if we drop the niceties and talk business.” Val began, sitting back in her seat to show Moreau she felt just as confident as he did
She couldn’t quite read Moreau’s reaction there, but she certainly had his attention. He seemed to tense slightly for just a second, even sit up slightly straighter. Good, this was good. The problem was that the smile he gave her still seemed a little too confident. He didn’t seem truly affected at all. It was like he was playing with her.
“I’m going to be completely frank here.” Val continued “There have been some concerning reports coming to us about this hospital. So concerning that we decided that we had to get involved. So concerning, in fact, that I felt the need to discuss the case with my captain and she decided she wished to be on this case too.”
Technically it wasn’t true, she’d volunteered the case to Hazel and it had caught her interest. It wasn’t out of her concern about the reports. But Moreau didn’t need to know that. He also didn’t need to know exactly how much the 99 already knew and how much they didn’t.
Moreau still seemed unbothered, or at least Val wouldn’t have thought so if it weren’t for the slightest thinning of his lips.
“You don’t do much business, do you, Detective?” Moreau responded “Get to the point. What is so concerning about my hospital?”
“Missing autopsy reports, not recording deaths. Countless families unsure why their loved one died with no record as if they’d never existed, or being left without the answers they needed about why they passed away. That’s what.” Val replied firmly, frustration creeping into her tone a little
This man had some sort of arrogance about him that Val didn’t like. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but it was unpleasant. It was almost like the smugness of someone who knew something you didn’t. The issue would be proving anything.
“We record everything, I assure you,” Moreau replied coolly “Things can take a while to process, documents get lost all the time. I’m not sure why you’re here when you could be using your time much more profitably investigating actual criminal activity.”
His eyes were already drifting to the door, Val noted. He wanted them out. Not so quickly, Val decided.
First, she cast a glance to Lukas to see what he thought. Did Moreau’s story about documents going missing or needing to be processed sound plausible? There seemed like too many cases of this for it to be an expected side-effect of the normal running of the hospital and she didn’t think autopsy results took that long. Something felt off, but perhaps Lukas could confirm.
And maybe they could get a copy of an autopsy the hospital had actually done, check everything was up to scratch. Lukas could help them determine that.

Callie listened as Roswell explained what he was reading in the file, nodding along to his next words.
“I agree, it seems weird.” the detective answered “but hopefully we should get some answers from this interview. The kids agreed to meet us where it happened, so with any luck actually being there will jog their memories and help them get the details.”
It would hopefully keep their memories from being too fuzzy and allow Callie and Roswell to get as much detail as possible. After all, this could be a fake report. Or just somebody dressed in a costume or something. They had to get to the bottom of what this actually was.
It didn’t take long before Callie finally stopped the car, getting out on a street of old, ugly looking buildings. Callie would never call a person ugly, but she had no issue pointing out when a building was ugly. And these buildings? Ugly. All grey with bad stonework and clearly not too well maintained. Exactly the kind of street you wouldn’t want to go down if you were returning from a night out but hey, each to their own.
Already waiting for them were a group of about four or five young people. A couple of guys, two or three girls. To tell the truth she wasn’t a hundred percent convinced they were all old enough to be drinking but then again she didn’t think it was a good idea to bring that up right then.
“Hey there,” Callie greeted “My partner and I are here to chat to you all about what you saw last night. I’m Detective Dawson”
She left enough space for Roswell to introduce himself, taking the opportunity to take in the appearances of the young people and scan the scene around them. Nothing so far really seemed to stand out as being off or anything.
It was awkward, she didn’t know how to talk to these kids. They were only a little younger than her - or perhaps still in their upper teens if they were in fact underage - but she still felt kind of old and awkward talking to them. They seemed to think so too if the way one of them kept looking her up and down with a somewhat judgemental expression was anything to go by.

TJ Kaminski
TJ let out a small sigh of relief when Tortie went along with it. Good, they were just simple pharmacists, that was all, and there wasn’t anything wrong with a couple of pharmacist siblings living together and selling pharmacy stuff. Maybe they even had lab coats like in Phineas and Ferb. - Though it was very important to note that Doctor Doofenshmirtz was not a pharmacist, despite all the jokes about it, he just wore a lab coat, honestly he actually wasn’t even a real doctor, but that was beside the point. - Blinking, TJ looked to the door when Tortie knocked, preparing himself to meet with them. Though he did stop for a moment when he was referred to as the “hot friend” and puffed out his chest proudly, adjusting his badge. Yeah, that’s right, he was a hot friend, wasn’t he? And now we wait for the arrival of Gifti and Goodi. Man, why did everyone in this place have such weird names?

Hazel Wynn Hazel immediately noticed how Doctor Moreau jumped to the defensive at Val’s questions. He was hiding something, something he clearly didn’t want to share with the group. Brow quirked upwards, Hazel folded her arms and casually began to walk around the room, her eyes flickering absentmindedly over various options and papers she could find. It was a subtle tactic, one to make the doctor aware of her and specifically put him a little on edge - if he had something to hide that is - while still allowing Val to take the lead on this particular case. However despite her casual browsing, she kept her ears opened as they talked, glancing back as Lukas joined the conversation. ”Most autopsies only take a few hours,” Lukas piped up, taking a step forward with his walking stick guiding him closer to the desk. “The only cases in which they’d take longer is if you’re looking for signs of something unnatural to the human body, like drugs or poison,” he continued. “I doubt you’re searching every body for poison or drugs, Doctor Moreau, as those aren’t common cases of death...unless perhaps, for some reason, people ought to be concerned about drug overdose during their stay here?” He asked innocently, though there was a clear hint of accusation in his words as he leaned forward, head tipped to the side as he clasped his hands over his cane. ”But we both know that would be ridiculous, isn’t that right, doc?” He asked coolly, waiting for an answer. Hazel gave it a moment, playing idly with one of the pens on a table to the side before joining Lukas and Val at the desk. “He brings up a good point, Moreau,” she commented, walking past Lukas and Val to fiddle with some things on the other side of the room, allowing Val and Lukas to do most of the work for now.

There was a shuffling behind the door, clearly announcing that one, or both, of the siblings were just behind the door. Tortie waited a moment longer, and then, finally, the door clicked as it was unlocked and it was soon flung wide open. The two were greeted by a young woman with wild, caramel colored hair, her features looking oddly feline. "Tortie!" She gave a bounce as she greeted the other woman before turning her attention toward TJ. "Hi! I've never seen you around, I'm Goodi. Do you have a name? I'm sure you do, but..." She paused, glancing between TJ and Tortie with a smile on her face.
"I like to call him Thicc Juicy, but apparently his legal name or whatever is TJ, it's a lot more boring of a name." Tortie shrugged as she explained who her companion was to the bubbly cat-like girl.
Goodi blinked, eyes wide, before nodding as the words took a bit to register in her mind. Tortie enjoyed Goodi's company, she was friendly and bubbly, but she was a bit on the innocent side, and by the looks of it, probably didn't quite understand the whole 'Thicc Juicy' thing, but she bounced back quickly. "Well, come on in! Gifti's here too." With that she stepped back, but not before motioning for Tortie and TJ to follow her on in.

Alright, it was time to get some answers.
Roswell stepped out of the car once it had been parked. He followed after Callie to where a small group of people were already waiting. They all seemed to be younger, but Roswell wasn't going to focus on that too much - just because they were young didn't make their sighting any less credible. They very well could be telling the truth about all of this and really had witnessed something otherworldly. Then again, they seemed to be right at that age where kids would want to make something up to gain even a brief moment of attention... Either way, Roswell was going to take this seriously. If Mothman really was here in Brooklyn, he would want to know every detail he could get a hold of, and right here was the perfect start to that quest.
"Detective Cuni," Roswell introduced himself quickly.
A snort came from one of the group members. Roswell glanced over to see who it was, a young boy who really couldn't be any older than seventeen. He had ruffled blond hair, and the look on his face suggested that he wasn't a fan of having the detectives out here at all. "This isn't some kind of murder mystery, ya know," he started sharply.
It was clear that he was about to say something else, but another member of the group, another young boy, stepped forward and grabbed the first one by the arm, looking him over with wide blue eyes. "Don't be so rude, they're here to help us not sound crazy." This seemed to ease the first boy a bit, but there was still an edge to him. The second then turned to look at Callie and Roswell, offering a friendly smile. "Don't mind him, he's always a little snippy. I'm Quail, by the way, and uh, yeah, we all saw...something last night..." Quail trailed off with his words, looking between the group and then the detectives. It was clear to Roswell that he was trying his best, but still nervous about all of this. That was to be expected, he supposed, a lot of people ended up getting nervous when around any sort of law enforcement, regardless on if they were innocent or guilty.

TJ Kaminski
Quickly figuring out he would need to introduce himself, he smiled warmly at the oddly named pair of twins and extended his hand out to shake their hands. “I’m Detective Kaminski, but you can call me TJ,” he introduced himself, with a quick nod and a smile to each of them in turn. They were odd looking people, though TJ wasn’t entirely sure what he expected. So far, no one in this complex seemed totally normal. However, that was why he was here, wasn’t it? To learn more and to hopefully figure out this whole alien thing. “I’m here to investigate the abductions,” he explained, pulling out a small notebook and a pen, tapping the end of the pen against the book. “I was hoping I could ask you two a couple of questions?”

Well, Cat did have pets- distinctly, a cat and a chicken... and unofficially a little hoard of catbirds that had made a nest on her apartment's balcony. Obviously, if she were to ever attempt getting professional pictures of them, the catbirds would be excluded.
Unfortunately, that answer wouldn't really appease Norman- not only given it wasn't the reason they were here, but that- ah, yep, Ty had officially stated it.
Wincing a little at his immediate reaction, she attempted to find some words to defend themselves just a bit. To try and soften the blow. "It's a slightly more recent relationship and we wanted to make sure we were going steady before- well, before really telling anyone about it." It was true. Alongside the fact that they hadn't quite known how Norman would react to it- she still couldn't tell if this was going to be a positive or negative reaction. But it wasn't like they hid it for the fun of hiding a relationship either.
She hoped Norman would understand.

Jules couldn't believe he was saying this, but in his mind it was the only truth of the matter- well, not really, it was by all accounts an overdramatized joke, but still, in a whispered voice, under his breath in plotting he said, "It's time to fix the problem of overpopulation." He didn't know how, but if it would decrease the need for sewers and reptilian sewer dwellers, he would be satisfied.
Unfortunately, it seemed they should focus- now stuck down here with the only goal to figure out if there was something more resemble of a guy dressing up as The Lizard or Killer Croc (which, he will defend, he only knows though creatures due to his younger sister) that decided terrorizing the sewers and its workers was a bright idea or if it was indeed an animal, feral and all.
So, he turned on the flashlight they were given beforehand and figured they may as well start walking in a direction, before asking N, "What's a lizard noise we can make to attract it's attention? Will hissing work?"

The N that he was now didn't believe in murder or taking the life of somebody, or something, else. Everything had a reason for being here on the Earth, and the time on which they were on it had no right to be shortened because of somebody's bloodlust. But...N did realize that the human population was drastically increasing while already at an alarmingly high number. Natural habitats were being destroyed all over the world to keep up with the demand of housing and civilization, and N was not a fan of that whatsoever. People had a right to live comfortably, but it wasn't okay when their planet was suffering for that. He wouldn't go so far as to say a large number of people needed to be outright murdered or something like that, but changes needed to be made, or at least people needed to start realizing that they couldn't just pack up and go to another planet once this one was done for. Things needed to change, and N could only hope that others would realize that too.
But his main focus needed to be on the sewers and the apparent crocodiles that lived within them.
He looked over at Jules for a moment and shook his head. "Maybe not quite hissing. Baby crocodiles make a rather distinct noise, but I'm not sure if that would work here...and even if it did, we probably don't want to anger a potential mother crocodile." Not that he'd want to anger any crocodile at all, but a mother would be even more aggressive and harder to deal with.

Moreau seemed speechless at Lukas' challenge about the autopsies. Any retort he might have been planning to make seemed to die in his throat and he seemed more on edge than before after the unexpected response by Lukas and Hazel's walking around the room.
Now was the moment to go in for the kill.
Val sat forward then, even drawing her chair slightly closer then it had been before. She needed him to know she wasn't afraid of him, that this was direct and that she meant what she was saying.
"Here's what I think..Kasper," Val began, eyes flicking to the name plate on Moreau's desk before returning to meet his eyes "I think something strange is happening in this hospital. I don't know if you're covering up negligent practices by hiding patient deaths and autopsy reports. I don't know if you're trying to make patient numbers seem lower so they don't force you to spend money you don't have on hiring new staff or getting new facilities. I don't know if you're rushing through admin and processing so you can move patients through more quickly and free up hospital beds. I've no doubt it's to do with money."
Everything was to do with money, and she knew Moreau was basically a manager, a businessman. It was almost guaranteed that if something was happening here that wasn't above board, it had something to do with the hospital's funds or else hiding unethical practices. The waiting rooms had seemed so quiet, though, which was why she was unsure about her final theory. Maybe it was because they didn't deal with a lot of outpatients and instead focused on their inpatients who needed hospital beds. Val couldn't figure it out yet, but she knew something wasn't right.
She narrowed her eyes at Moreau, who didn't seem to be having any problems meeting her gaze. He seemed somehow both nervous but also too confident. Like he was uncomfortable with their presence but knew it would come to nothing more. As if he knew he'd already gotten away with something.
"I don't know what's happening here yet, but we'll find out if someone is so much as stealing from a vending machine, you mark my words." by this point Val had risen from her seat, planting both palms on the desk.
The woman knew they weren't going to be getting much more out of Moreau at that point, so she looked to her captain and Lukas before turning back to the hospital administrator.
"We'll leave you now and investigate on our own, but I'm sure this won't be the last time we see one another." Val said to Moreau, refusing to waste time on more conversation with someone who still clearly wouldn't be up for investigating.
But as she led the way out of the room, she couldn't help but cast a final glance at the files in that room. Every gut feeling she had was pulling her towards them, telling her they were important. Something told her they had answers.
Those, and maybe the records in the morgue.
In fact, she said as much once they were all out of the room and back out into the hallways, turning to Hazel.
"We have to get our hands on those files." the detective murmured
