She grinned, as if she wouldn't be thinking that no matter what he was wearing or however his hair was done of anything like that. He was a very pretty individual and Cat was certain he could pull off anything. She returned the kiss with a grin and waved as he left. God, she could not wait until tonight.
--
Evening hadn't come quite as fast as she had hoped. She hoped Captain Wynn didn't hold it against her that she hadn't went out for the day to solve a case, but that solidly had to do with the large amount of time it often took to do a case in a day under normal circumstances. It was simply easier to sift through paperwork. Even boring paperwork, which likely led to the day feel extra long.
But, that didn't matter quite so much now. She was ecstatic, a buzz of nerves flowing through her as she approached the front of the restaurant they were meeting at. She was in a rather simple deep blue dress with a light V-neck and lace for sleeves that reached to her wrists. Sleeves she was ever so lightly picking at with her free hand, the other holding onto a black clutch.
She was certain Ty would be there any minute now.

Jules couldn't help the light snort that came out of his nose as N muttered, the commentary being a willing distraction for a moment. At least that goose chase had originally been filed as a human case. This one was straight up animal. Didn't even attempt to count it as a humanoid reptile thing, just a crocodile.
"Well, count those rumors as having some proof now," Jules responded gracefully despite that, "Several accounts seemed to be gathered over time. A couple of teenage boys recklessly jumping into the sewers in a search and having seen some scales, some plumbers down there claiming they felt something brush against them, a kid who fell down an open manhole came back out with a tooth that wasn't solidly identified. The only reason she have this case now is cause a construction worker was found down there bleeding out with some large bites across his body and no sign of perpetrator. Soooo, they signed us up," technically just Jules, but he was now determined to rope N into this case too, "to get down to the issue and deal with it accordingly."

TJ Kaminski
TJ grinned when Tortie reassured him that she could let him in, finally he could officially start his case. So with a content smile, TJ slid his hands into his jacket pockets and let Tortie take the lead. “Thanks, I owe you one, I’ve been trying to get in for ages,” he admitted as he followed Tortie inside the building. “Someone called in, apparently people from this apartment building keep getting abducted by aliens, or they sure think they did,” he explained, figuring it was okay to tell Tortie the details since she worked with him. Now, TJ liked to think aliens were real and if they were abducting a bunch of people from this place, that would be awesome, if not, oh well, it was still a cool case. “So, do you know anything about that?” He asked and sent a sly smile towards Tortie. “Have you been abducted yet?”

Hazel Wynn
Hazel didn’t want to admit it, but she had a bad feeling too. She’d never been a huge fan of hospitals, her dislike of them going back to her youth and all the many trips she took to the hospital with her parents. Needles had never been a good thing for her either and she couldn’t quite bring herself to feel comfortable around them, even now. Unfortunately this did mean she wasn’t that cool grandma that knitted her grandkids sweaters or hats or something, but she could make up for it in other ways. Letting out a quiet hum, Hazel listened as Val went on to explain everything else. She was right of course, they’d need someone on their side with the proper amount of knowledge, and although there were probably some doctors Hazel could call up, she wasn’t a great fan of those in general either. However... No, she couldn’t drag him into this, he’d want to get involved. After a quick internal struggle with herself, Hazel sighed and bowed her head down. ”I think I know someone who can help,” she explained, heading towards her car. “We’ll have to make a stop somewhere before we head towards the hospital,” she warned as she shot a glance back towards Val.

Ty Walters
The drive to the place didn’t take long, or at least, it didn’t feel like it did, Ty didn’t exactly go on dates super often, and in fact, before he got with Cat, his last date had been about seven years ago and it had ended very abruptly after he had realized that Ty had a kid. Guess the guy didn’t fancy the potential risk of becoming “Dad pt2” even if it was just one date and honestly, it wasn’t like he had been super attractive anyways. Anyway, lingering bitterness aside, Cat was like a breath of fresh air and she liked Boston Waldo, which was a huge thing, so celebrating tonight was pretty big for Ty. Fast approaching the destination, Ty slowed his bike down, parking the motorcycle in a parking spot in front of Cat. Which might’ve been partially because he wanted to show Esmerelda off, but that wasn’t the point here. Hopping off his bike, Ty smiled over at Cat and gestured towards the motorcycle. “Hope you don’t mind that I brought another girl on our date,” he joked, knowing full well that Cat had met dear Esmerelda by now.

None of this was really in the category of a case that they would look into, but somehow it got filed and sent to them regardless, so N supposed there was no choice but for them to go and take a look. Everything that Jules was reading off sounded animal, not human, but clearly they had the case file and there was no disputing that. What they probably needed to do was go to the captain and see if they just needed to keep the case and check it out, or send it to the correct team of people, but as N thought about it, he realized that everybody in the precinct was busy - either they had already left out on their own cases or were about to. Besides, he supposed changing things up a little bit and doing something he wouldn't otherwise do would keep him on his toes. And plus, N had always been a fan of the conspiracies and rumors of crocodiles in the sewers.
N got up from his chair and looked over at Jules. "Well, I suppose a trip to the sewers can't be the worst. You ready to go wrangle a crocodile?" He asked with the faintest of wry smiles pulling at his lips.

Tortie nodded along as TJ went on to explain why he was here and what the case was about. "Yeah, yeah, aliens apparently like this place. Dunno why, though," she sighed, letting out a defeated groan along with it. "I haven't, which isn't fair at all! What sort of alien comes here and passes over me for abduction. I'd be the perfect person to experiment on, or whatever they're doing. I've heard the rumors about aliens taking humans and using them for breeding purposes. I'm the perfect breeding partner! Like, look at me." She stopped in her tracks and turned to TJ, gesturing down her body. "The epitome of sexiness in the human species, right? Right! So why don't they want me? That's the true investigation here today, Thicc Juicy. Figuring out why these aliens aren't coming after my body in the pursuit of science or whatever."
Seriously, why hadn't any of these aliens touched her yet? She was a prime candidate for whatever they were doing, and Tortie was more than willing to give up her body to an alien, especially since she had yet to cross alien off her list and she was more than curious to know how that experience would go, and she was more than willing to pop out as many little alien-human hybrids as they wanted from her if the aliens just gave her their time of day.
Another sigh slipped off her tongue. "I just wanna be like that Katy Perry song. Ya know, the one about a steamy romance in space with the alien and stuff? That's all I'm asking for."

TJ Kaminski
Pausing for a moment, TJ furrowed his brows, going over all the Katy Perry songs he listened to more often than others. “...E.T?” He tried, figuring that most likely Katy Perry didn’t have too many songs about alien lovers. ”You know, the one that goes-“ TJ cleared his throat, lifting his hand up to slightly dance around as he began singing. ”~You’re from a whole other world, a different dimension, you open my eyes and I’m ready to go, lead me into the light, kiss me, kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me~“ he probably could’ve kept going but he was getting weird looks by others in the lobby. ”Man that song is so catchy, and Katy Perry looked really pretty in that video,” TJ commented with an easy shrug of his shoulders. Amazing Katy Perry songs aside, TJ did have a reason he was here and he needed to get to work. ”Tortie, can you take me to the landlord’s office? I think we ought to talk to them first if I wanna figure out this whole abduction thing,” he explained, glancing back over towards Tortie. It seemed like a fairly mild case - unless they did get abducted by aliens at some point - so TJ didn’t really mind if Tortie tagged along while he hung around her building.

As they headed toward Hazel’s car, Valentina watched the captain seem to wrestle with herself over something, before finally bowing her head in some kind of defeat and explaining that she knew someone who could help but they’d have to make a stop on the way.
Honestly, Val wasn’t mad about that. She wasn’t exactly stoked to be visiting a hospital; she really hated them. Anything that might delay it a little longer was totally fine by her at this point. Though she was admittedly a little curious as to what her captain had been so divided about. Was this help from someone she hated or something. She had the same look on her face that everyone had had that day Callie had gotten everyone doughnuts and filled some with ketchup and some with jam as a prank and nobody knew which was which and they were trying to figure it out.
“Sounds good to me,” Val agreed as she got into the car
Now, normally Val didn’t ask her captain a lot of questions. It was better to just trust the process and she always knew that Hazel knew what she was doing. She hadn’t gotten to captain for nothing, after all. But at this point she was just too curious to keep the question in. Anyway, if someone was joining them for this case Val wanted to know who it was. She normally worked alone and now not only was she working with a partner, but now there was a third person involved too.
So, as she clicked her seatbelt into place, she looked across at the captain.
“Where are we going?”
She was eager to know. She didn’t like anything about the feel of this case so far and while she was glad the captain was with her she wanted to know exactly what they were getting into at this point. Hopefully whoever they were getting at this next stop would be someone helpful to them. Especially if they were a doctor or anything because, again, Val didn’t like hospitals too much and that extended sometimes to doctors. She just didn’t react well to them these days. It was better than it used to be, but still not great.

Jules blinked at N. "N, I have never even seen a crocodile in real life." It was not his fault that the zoos in this state didn't keep them, nor was it his fault he had never even been to a zoo. He supposed it didn't help his parents were off doing their own stuff around the world to care about bringing their kids to a zoo. Jules supposed he could have gone on his own or with his siblings seeing as half of them were adults now, and therefore a majority were competent to do things... but Jules had to admit he'd only be willing to go if they could go together. But Emily was somewhere in the world, Belen had no time to do anything, Allison was just starting college all the way across the states. Antoine was the only one around. Damn, Jules had a depressing family.
Still, he let out a heavy sigh after a minute of silence, ready to faintly agree. "So, no. not really ready to wrangle a crocodile, but it is my job, so there's little choice in this matter. Let's go."

A bright smile on her face appeared simply at the sound of the oh-so familiar motorcycle.
It always let her know when someone she really liked was approaching. As Ty stopped the beautiful motorbike in front of her, she gave him a small wave. She laugh as his joke, ready to respond, "Well, when the girl's as pretty as she is, I can't very well blame you." She took a pause. "I do hope dinner will still be between the two of though, if she doesn't mind." Alongside the fact that that the restaurant wouldn't fancy the idea of bringing a motorcycle inside, of course.

Hazel Wynn
As she started the engine, Hazel shot a quick glance back towards Val and half smiled as she shrugged her shoulders back. “Home,” she explained plainly as she started to drive. Though she wasn’t nearly as cryptic as some of her detectives about where she lived, she had only ever taken a small handful of people from work to her house before, not for any other reasons than she hadn’t ever found the time to invite them...plus there was always a bit of prep work involved before anyone from work could enter without discovering secrets Hazel knew weren’t meant to be shared yet. However now it seemed Val would get the chance to see her humble abode. — Pulling up towards a rather nice house - though not quite big enough to be considered a mansion - Hazel stopped the car and jerked her head. “Come on,” she told Val as she got out and moved towards the door. Once inside, and pocketed her keys and looked back towards Val. “Stay here,” she ordered, pausing for a moment to make sure Val was listening before hurrying down the hallway, discreetly putting away pictures as she went. She knew where Lukas should be right about now, he had a fairly consistent schedule. ”Lukas!” She called out the back door, quickly spotting a tall, young man with dark brown hair and scars scattered across his face, specifically around his eyes. Lukas stopped halfway through the warrior’s pose - yoga for those that don’t do it - and turned his head sharply in the direction of Hazel’s voice. “Hazel? Shouldn’t you be at work?” He asked with a tilt of his head. Hazel placed her hand on the back door. “I am,” she replied. “Come on, we’ve got company.”— Not long after getting Lukas back inside, she quickly began filling him in as they walked back to the front of the house. Lukas nodded along, letting out soft “hmms” of understanding until finally they were in the front. Quickly, Hazel turned her attention back to Val, gesturing dramatically to Lukas. “Tadaa!” She offered with a grin. It had been awhile since either old partner had seen each other...well, “seen” being metaphorical in this case, but Hazel liked to think there was still a decent level of trust there.

Ty & Norman Walters
Ty smirked and held his arm out for Cat to take as he began to guide her into the restaurant. “Don’t worry, Esmerelda ate before we came, this dinner will be just the two of us,” he promised as he led her inside. The restaurant itself was actually fairly fancy, which wasn’t usually something Ty could afford, however this was special, or at least special to him and it only seemed right to go all out...”all out” in his price range anyways. Once inside, Ty moved to the front desk. ”Hi, yes, hello, I believe we have a reservation, should be under Walters,” he said, pointing down towards the papers. The guy behind the desk nodded and quickly looked it over, though he seemed a little frazzled, with his face pale. “Ah yes, Walters, there you are, follow me,” he told them, ushering them inside. “Sorry uh, sorry about the mess, there’s a bit of a ruckus in the kitchen, but there’s no need to worry, it shouldn’t delay your food,” he continued, glancing around quickly. Ty raised his brow and slowed down a little, leaning closer to Cat. “Does he seem a little off to you?” He whispered to her as they were brought to their table and handed the menus. — — Meanwhile... It was a good thing that it wasn’t particularly cold tonight because it meant Norman could walk to his destination. After a long and boring day of filling out paperwork that had begun to pile up, he was excited to finally get out there in the field, plus this case was kind of his area of expertise. A restaurant that was supposedly haunted had called for help, and while Norman might not have been an official ghostbuster, he was really the next best thing. If there was anything that growing up religiously on Scooby Doo had taught him, it was how to sniff out a ghost. ... Plus he had some some stuff like this back when he was a teenager. Entering the restaurant, Norman made his way to the front desk. “NYPD, I’m here about the ghosts,” Norman introduced to the guy at the front desk, showing off his badge.

Val had been surprised when Hazel said that they were going to her home. Val had never been there - they were both private people and the pair of them had respected that of one another. Much as Val had very rarely had visitors to her own house, so it was the same for Hazel.
She'd followed her captain to the house, stopping when the older woman told her to. After all, this was Hazel's house and Val was always careful anyway to follow Hazel's orders. Most of the time, anyway; Val was known to disobey her captain if she thought she knew better. It would get her into more trouble if things didn't tend to work out anyway. Still, this wasn't one of the times she felt the need to ignore Hazel.
She leaned against the wall and waited for her captain to return, fiddling idly with the sleeves of her jacket. Val knew some members of the 99 whose curiosity would cause them to want to snoop around Hazel's house. It wasn't that Val wasn't curious, but she wasn't one of these people. She knew what it felt like to have secrets and she'd always felt that there was more to the captain than she let on to her squad. But it wasn't Val's secret to reveal, it wasn't for Val to snoop around. She was a detective at work, but in her personal life she knew that sometimes it was better to rein in her detective tendencies.
Soon enough Hazel returned, presenting a familiar face that somehow simultaneously made her stomach drop and heart leap. She'd never felt so many conflicting emotions in her life before, but seeing that face brought it all rushing back.
"LUKAS!"
"Ruiz, #3872, we have a 10-85, 10-85"
"10-4. What's your status?"
"10-44, two officers down. We need a bus."
Still, the rush of memories and of old guilt didn't overpower the feeling of excitement at seeing her old partner. Val found herself smiling, letting out a surprised laugh.
"Lukas!" she exclaimed
She rushed forward to approach him, but was careful not to touch him too suddenly so she didn't take him by surprise. She gave warning by a touch to the arm before she gave him a hug. Which was a thing in itself because Val wasn't a big hugger. Still, if anything called for a hug, it was being reunited with an old partner.
"God, it's been a while." she added as she released him
They both knew the last time they'd seen one another. She still felt awful that she'd gotten to continue on with her career with nothing but a few scars and burns while he'd been forced into early retirement. But they didn't need to talk about that right then. Especially not with Hazel there; after their conversation that morning about the file, Val figured it would only upset her more.
"Hazel rope you into our case, did she?" Val smiled with a glance at her captain.
It was genius, really. Gave Val and Lukas some time to hang out, got him involved in a case, and he was the ideal person for providing them with the medical knowledge they needed.

Well, if there was one thing N wasn't expecting - not that he had expected a crocodile case either - was Jules to just come out and say that he had never seen a crocodile before. Perhaps that could be fixed after today, even though N doubted encountering a crocodile in the Brooklyn sewer system would be a positive experience with the creatures. Either way, it would be something, and perhaps Jules could then mark seeing a crocodile in person off his list. Assuming he had a list of things he wanted to do in his life, and assuming as well that he actually wanted to see a real life crocodile. But anyway.
"Well, maybe we won't have to wrangle one if we find it. I suppose we'd just have to make a report that there are actually crocodiles down there and then the right people will come and solve the problem," N pointed out. Though as he thought about it, he wondered what would happen to any potential crocodiles they found. If animal control got involved would they be able to capture the reptiles and humanely bring them back out into the wild where they belonged or bring them in to a zoo that could adequately care for them? He hoped they'd be brought somewhere they would be treated properly and be well taken care of; the thought of them needing to be put down or something along those lines brought a pang to N's heart. Was he about to make the lives of these possible crocodiles better, or was he about to go in and get them senselessly murdered?
N shook his head. He shouldn't focus on that right now. That was a problem for later, if there even were any crocodiles down in the sewers. So pushing those thoughts of his mind, N headed on out, ready to tackle whatever this case threw at him and Jules.

See, that was another reason why Tortie couldn't help but think TJ was attractive as he was. Any man who willingly listened to Katy Perry and was more than willing to just break out into singing one of her songs even in public was a good man, a total keeper. "That one exactly!" She exclaimed, sending him a wide-eyed look of excitement that soon turned into a sly expression. "Oh yeah, she was hot there, but I mean, when is she not? I'd be her alien lover any day." Which, coming from Tortie, wasn't saying a lot, but still. "Though, if you're ever looking for an alien lover," Tortie started, her expression now turning into one that was more flirtatious than anything, "I've been told I'm pretty out of this world."
While Tortie was aware that TJ was trying to get back on track with this case he had, she knew he had no idea what he was getting himself into when it came to asking about the landlord. "I can take you to him, yeah," she responded with a shrug. "But I'm warning you now, he's...well, if he wasn't giving me free rent I probably wouldn't associate with the guy. You'll find out soon enough." It wasn't much of a warning, but Tortie wasn't even sure where she could start with a warning when it came to her landlord. He was...a lot, to say the least, and as she started to head into the direction of his office, she knew that TJ would soon find out why people said it was best to steer clear of the guy.

Hazel Wynn
Hazel smiled as the two interacted, it was one of those “Walt your hearts” kind of moments, like when you see a puppy get adopted or something like that. It was nice, especially considering what these two had to go through. Lukas let out a hearty laugh in greeting and returned Val’s hug with a friendly pat on her back. “It’s good to hear your voice again, how have you been holding up without me? Hope you aren’t too bored,” he joked, easily falling into an ease with Val. “I heard the precinct got a new detective recently, what’s he like? Hazel here says he’s great, but she’ll say that about anyone in that precinct,” he added and Hazel rolled her eyes. “It’s not my fault I have a great precinct, all the other ones are just trash compared to us, it’s pretty simple,” Hazel retorted, shrugging. She meant it too, maybe they weren’t the most orthodox precinct, but that’s part of what made them so great. ”Right, and I’m sure the 99 is still the best there is,” Lukas reassured before he put his attention back on Val, folding his arms. “Yeah, Hazel filled me in on the case, seems like a real doozy of a case here,” Lukas said with a nod of his head. “I’ll try to help the best I can.”

Okay, Tortie brought up an excellent point there, Katy Perry was always hot and those were the facts, and he was fully prepared to agree with her when he stopped, pausing as he heard her next comment. “Hahahah, yeah...” he laughed hesitantly. He couldn’t quite place his finger on it, but the thought of hooking up with Tortie...ever, was really weird to him. It wasn’t even that he didn’t find her attractive, he did, it was more so that it felt...dishonest somehow. Which was stupid, because it wasn’t like he was seeing anyone, but the feeling was still there. Maybe it was because he wasn’t the hookup kind of person, or maybe it was because they worked together, or maybe a bit of both, who knew? “Anyways, this landlord guy, is he really that bad?” TJ asked, clapping his hands together, happy for the distraction. “Where’s his office? Maybe we can talk to him now? I’d like to figure out what I’m working with here,” he explained, smiling as he looked over towards Tortie.

Tortie sharply inhaled when TJ asked if the landlord guy could really be that bad. She couldn't blame him entirely for asking the question, she had been just as naive as he was back before she had met the landlord, but this was the only time she had to try and prepare TJ for what was to come. "I mean, there's nothing stopping us from going to see him, but, seriously, TJ, listen." She stopped walking for a moment and turned her mismatched gaze over to him. For once there wasn't any sort of smug look on her face or anything that was typical of her usual dramatic, flirtatious self. Tortie was actually serious. "He's annoying, and I'm not talking just a little bit annoying, I mean, he's the most annoying person I have ever met, and he's probably easily the most annoying guy in the universe. He even annoys Roswell, and I think you've been around long enough by now to know that Roswell doesn't get annoyed." Well, he did get annoyed at times when it came to some certain people, but that was different. That was entirely different.
After she had given her warning, Tortie continued on down the hall. It wasn't long before she came to another stop in front of a door with a plaque that clearly read 'Bob Dorito' in golden letters. Tortie let out a sigh, braced herself, and gave one last look to TJ. "Get ready," she warned, and without another word, she knocked on the door.

TJ Kaminski
TJ’s blood ran cold as his brain registered something, something small that stood out to him. Something unnatural. ”...Did you...did you just call me...TJ?” TJ asked in shock, his light blue eyes widening as he stared towards Tortie. “That’s like...that’s like if anyone else called me Timothy, which is a disgusting name,” he explained, leaning back slightly. “This is serious, isn’t it?” He asked cautiously. For the few weeks TJ had known Tortie, she had vehemently refused to ever call him TJ before, it was something else, like Thick Juicy for instance, so to stand here and listen as Tortie called him TJ was like....well it certainly made him morbidly curious - and also a little scared - for what exactly this landlord was like. “So uh, how annoying is this guy?” TJ asked nervously, looking from Tortie to the door as she knocked. After all, this guy was named Bob Dorito, that alone was strange enough, what would this guy actually end up being like?

Callie was thrilled that Roswell was just as excited as she was about this case. And if anything, he seemed more knowledgable about this topic than her, which could only be helpful. Callie was excited anyway; she loved working with Cat was amazing but it was fun to shake things up once in a while and work with a new partner.
She led the way out to her car, deciding she should drive since Roswell had the doughnut and the file to look after. So she pulled open her car doors, clambering into the front seat and pushing open the opposite door for Roswell to climb into.
”I’d apologise for the mess but honestly it’s always like this so I don’t have an excuse,” Callie shrugged, looking over at the rubbish overtaking the vehicle “oh, and uh, the seatbelt doesn’t exactly work. But don’t worry, I almost never crash.”
Callie was a really good driver, at least in her opinion. Technically she’d never done anything dangerous, she’d never have kept her job if that were the case. Not when she was a detective.
Once Roswell was in the car, Callie started the engine and pulled out of the precinct, heading towards their destination.
“A group of kids on a night out spotted the Mothman,” she explained “so they’re where we should start.”
They had to get an account of the sighting before they did anything else, after all. That was just basic police work. Besides she was kind of excited to get all the details from people who’d actually seen the cryptid.

Val smiled when Lukas spoke to her, greeting her and asking how she’d been.
”It’s not the same without you, but I’m holding up.” Val replied honestly, “Hazel takes good care of me.”
She did, and Val didn’t tell her that enough. She was grateful. And she didn’t want to admit it, because she never liked to admit that she needed anyone or that she couldn’t manage on her own, but Hazel had done so much for her. She was like a mother to her, probably more so than Val’s own mother. Not only that, but she’d helped Val recover from some real low points in her career and personal life.
Like when she was lying in pain in a hospital bed, struggling to breathe and unable to speak. And Hazel had made sure to check on her even though Lukas had been in the very same hospital, even more injured than Val was. That was how much Hazel loved everyone on her team.
“Oh, TJ?” Val asked when he questioned her on the new detective, trying to ignore the butterflies in her stomach even talking about him and trying to articulate how she felt about him “yeah, he’s... great. He’s goofy but he’s a great detective, he makes a good fit for the team. You’d like him.”
And Val wouldn’t say that about just anyone. Of course she thought everyone on the team were great detectives, but they’d earned that opinion. She didn’t give it as freely as Hazel did. And irrespective of Val’s romantic feelings for TJ, she objectively did think he was a good detective.
She breathed a relieved sigh when he said Hazel had updated him on everything and that he was happy to assist them with the case.
“I’m glad, we really need you.” the woman answered, before looking to Hazel “I guess it’s time to go talk to some suspicious medical personnel.”

If he was being honest, Roswell hadn’t noticed the mess in Callie’s car until she had pointed it out, and even then, he wasn’t fazed by the sight at all. He shook his head, an amused smile pulling at his lips, eyes turning toward Callie as he situated himself into her car. ”I lived with Tortie for a while, this is spotless compared to that.”
However, the joking demeanor in him faded when she mentioned the faulty seatbelt. This got Roswell to fall silent. He had always been careful when it came to driving, and Callie mentioning how she almost never crashed had him worried. He could feel a worm of anxiety wiggling its way into his stomach, but he managed to stop it rather quickly with another thought - he had been in much deadlier situations than riding in a car without a seatbelt. Plus, for what it was worth, he trusted Callie. She had her moments, but if she wasn’t reliable then she wouldn’t have ever been allowed to become a detective.
Luckily the topic of Mothman brought Roswell back to a much happier mood. ”Right.” He glanced down at the case file, reading through it eagerly. ”Looks like they spotted him flying between some buildings. Still makes me wonder what he’s doing in the middle of Brooklyn…” Roswell trailed off, not wanting to dive too deep into those thoughts right now.

”This is serious,” Tortie confirmed matter-of-factly. ”He’s super annoying, I wouldn’t even -“ The door opening stopped Tortie mid-sentence. Well, this was it. Usually she only had to deal with Bob once a month, but unfortunately she wasn’t so lucky this time around.
”Tortie! Why, I wasn’t expecting you. Are you paying for rent early? I didn’t plan on this, but don’t worry, I’m never caught off guard. You know me, always prepared.” Tortie stared at the man who had opened the door, eyes narrowed, arms crossing defensively. While she had always found Bob to be annoying, she could at least handle him for the most part. He gave her free rent in exchange for something else, and Tortie didn’t mind it, so just for that she couldn’t downright loathe the guy or anything, but right now she had TJ with her. TJ who, despite her constantly trying to seduce him, was an innocent baby bird, and Tortie was not going to allow Bob to contaminate him. She was the one who was going to do that, not him.
She was about to speak up and tell her landlord she wasn’t here for rent, but it seemed as if Bob had finally noticed the second person.
”You brought a friend! I’ve never seen this one before,” Bob mused, clearly looking TJ over as slowly as he could. ”What’s this one called?” He asked, Tortie quite clearly noticing how Bob was referring to TJ as ‘this one’ as if he were something like a pet.
”His name’s-“
”Oh, I bet it’s something exotic like Diego, which is a lovely name from France. I’ve been studying up on name origins. It’s all very interesting, I should tell you more about my studies. Which! I can do all that much better if you come inside, so why are you two still standing out here when the invitation’s been given for a long time now?” With that Bob turned and headed back into his room, still blabbering on about something or another that Tortie was now blocking out.
She turned back to TJ, shaking her head and sighing. ”Let’s just get this over with,” she muttered, and without another word she stepped inside Bob’s office, glancing over her shoulder to see if TJ was following.

Hazel Wynn
Hazel couldn’t help but smile as she watched the two interact. It was nice, Val got to loosen up and relax around her old partner, and Lukas...well Lukas got to be part of it all again, Hazel knew he missed it, even if he didn’t admit it out loud. It was the way he would ask about her day in a tone more than just polite, the way he would listen to the news and try to piece things together as he heard about them. It was a life he had been cheated out of, a life he was meant for and was never able to see into fruition, so in this case, Hazel was happy to have him involved, at least for the parts that shouldn’t be too dangerous. ”I’ll have to stop by the office sometime and meet him, it’s not every day you talk highly of someone,” Lukas pointed out with an honest grin, clapping his hands together. “Alright then, off to the hospital are we? Let me get my stick,” he said, instinctively moving towards the umbrella hanger where his walking stick was. He knew the house well enough not to need it, outside though, was a bit different. Stick in hand, he nodded. “Let’s go.” — Hazel parked the car and furrowed her brows as she looked up towards the hospital in question. It wasn’t too big, but something seemed off about it, and she hadn’t even gotten out of her car yet. “Anyone else feel like we’re about to walk into a hospital horror movie?” Hazel asked dryly as she stepped out of her car, flicking the sunglasses open in her hand before placing them over her eyes. “Like we’re about to walk into the middle of a Dead Ringers scene...” Hazel added under her breath, a rush of shivers creeping down her spine. Ugh, she really hated hospitals.

TJ Kaminski
The door opened and TJ only had a second to brace himself for what came next, and then Bob started talking. TJ blinked, trying to keep up with him. He couldn’t quite explain it, but already this man was radiating some kind of annoying energy that TJ had never quite known before, and he knew annoying, he knew annoying because he was annoying, but this...this was different. Maybe it was because of how Bob kept referring to him as “this one” as if he was a thing rather than an object, or maybe it was because of how he kept interrupting Tortie whenever she tried to speak, or maybe it was the implications of how exactly Tortie paid her rent that got him, or maybe because he kinda looked like the type of guy you just really wanted to punch in the face, honestly TJ wasn’t sure, but what he did know was that as far as first impressions went: he was not a fan of Bob Dorito. Huffing, TJ stepped forward and grabbed his badge out of his pocket, shoving it in Bob’s face. “Detective TJ Kaminski, NYPD, 99th precinct,” he introduced himself stiffly, twitching his nose slightly. Now usually, TJ was way less formal about how he introduced himself, but when this Dorito looking man wouldn’t let him get a word in beforehand, this would have to do. “I’m here about the abduction claims from your tenants, and I’d like to ask you a few questions,” He explained, giving Bob a pointed look. “If that’s alright with you.”

She laughed at the joke, following him inside. She gave a small smile to the host as Ty made the move to clock them in. She faltered a little as the man seemed scrambled. She was a tad bit more concerned about what was causing the stress rather than the effect it may have on the meal.
Cat gave a small nod in response to Ty, waiting till they were seated and the waiters off before answering aloud... even if quietly. "He did. It might have something to do with that ruckus in the kitchen he mentioned but I- I can't quite imagine how bad it must be to have the people in the front off balanced as well." It wasn't meant to be rude, merely a statement of their situation.
"Hopefully we won't need to worry too hard and it'll resolve itself, right?" she suggested aloud, in hopes for it to be the truth.
As the idea settles, she takes a brief scan of the restaurant, curious to see if there is any sign of the disturbance in the back and if any other guests of the establishment were curious on the matter as well. Perhaps it was just the detective in her curious to see. She wasn't the only one who had glanced towards the kitchen areas from what she could see, but nothing all that important. Merely idle gossip.
Then the restaurant door rang open and curiosity struck her as she flicked her eyes to the entrance, still somewhat visible from their table. And froze.
She took a small gulp of air and looked back to Ty, lightly tapping on his hand to grab his attention. She nodded towards the entrance best she could without drawing much notice from whom she noticed. And as quietly as she could manage, so that Ty could still here, asked, "Your brother's here."

He squinted his eyes in an attempt to judge how accurate and true N's statement may end up being. After a moment of careful decision, he gave a short nod and responded, "I like your thought process." Confirmation and then they could dump it on animal control. And hopefully make a statement afterwards to the public that animal control should be called in the case of animals being wild.
Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
--
It was horrible. He had forgotten for the half second that even if they didn't need to wrangle a croc, he'd still be shifting through the sewers of Brooklyn.
"I can already smell the feces and urine. We have to walk through that, N," Jules commented aloud, staring in abject horror at the sight below. Some of the sewer workers had opened a manhole for the pair to go through and helped situate them with proper attire to go splashing through water and waste products. "In rubber boots at that."
The outfit was horrible. The boots were a rubbery yellow and the pants sealed with them were baggy and grotesque to look at. Certainly would keep the waste from touching their legs directly, but no less horrible. And the awful shade of orange that the suspenders and hat came in. Jules hated it so much and was merely grateful and under the assumption no one was around to snap photos.
"Well. Ready to go in there?"

Ty Walters
This place was fairly nice, even if the staff here was acting kind of weird. The rest of the guests seemed fine, from what Ty could tell, and he got it, when work got frazzled, it was harder to attend to all the guests, there was no judgment there. Sitting down at their table, Ty looked around, tapping the table with his fingertips, just sort of waiting until a waiter brought them some menus. Then Cat mentioned his brother and Ty froze. Quickly, he looked towards Cat. “Wait what?” He asked, eyes wide as he glanced towards the entrance. Sure enough, there was Norman, talking to the guy from before, they talked for a bit, Norman had his badge out, which meant his youngest brother hadn’t just decided to eat at the same restaurant. Ty’s mind flashed back to how nervous the guy that been before. Was there a connection? Eyeing Norman a little longer, Ty tilted his head closer to Cat. ”Why is he here? He’s got his badge out, did you hear about any restaurant cases?” He asked in a whisper, trying to piece together what exactly was going on. Unfortunately that’s when Norman saw him. The two made eye contact. There was a pause. Then Norman said something else to the guy and started over, stopping right by their table, hands in his jacket pockets. “Ty-“ Norman started, glancing from Ty to Cat. “Lachat, what...what uh, what are you doing here?” He asked, his voice wary. Ty could tell that Norman was as confused as he was.

]N had been in worse situations before.
Okay, maybe that was a lie, this situation was pretty bad when it came to overall sight and smell, but all things considering, it could be worse. At least this was something he could simply clean himself from once the task was done. A nice, long shower after all this would make trudging through the sewer system all day a mere memory that he and Jules could laugh about later. Though, knowing Jules, this might not be a situation he'd want to laugh about for a good decade or two. N briefly wondered if he even still had a decade or two left in him so that he could feasibly laugh about this with Jules one day, but now wasn't the time to go over his possible time of death and how much longer he had to live. He needed to focus on getting this job done in a timely manner.
"It won't be so bad if you try breathing through your mouth. It'll stop you from smelling everything all at once." That was going to be N's main strategy here. He wasn't fond of the idea of smelling nothing but bodily wastes all day, but he was going to do what he could to make it easier on himself and his poor nose. "And think about the attire this way - it's the only thing that will keep you sanitary down here. And if it makes you feel any better about all this, I won't say anything about what we're wearing to the others." Not that he would to begin with, N wasn't the type to start gossiping about the choice of clothing required for a case, but he felt like Jules needed a little bit of verbal reassurance right now.
With that said and done, N nodded in response to his partner's question. "The sooner we get in, the sooner we get out." Without another word, he headed on in, down into the sewers of Brooklyn.
