(So yeah I said a few minutes, but some personal stuff popped up, so here I am now.)
A woman was perched within the branches of an old spruce, surveying the lands. Pointed ears and a lanky build were paired with a tall height and softer face. It clearly marked her as half human and half elf. Not entirely one or the other. Astra kept an ear out for the noises of the forest as she eyed the walls of Crown's Way. The city was no place for her to live. She hated the confined walls as well as the guards constantly on watch. She rarely went into the city unless she had things to sell or someone needed her. Other than that she was always within the confines of the forest.
As she let her mind wander, a spine-chilling screech suddenly cut through the silence. It lasted only moments and echoed through the thick woods. The terrible shriek faded within a minute, but it only took mere seconds before the another screech followed. The ranger gazed in the direction where the call came from. Something was in the woods. Something was in her woods and whatever it was, it clearly wasn't a good thing. Narrowing her green eyes, Aster lept from the branches and grasped the ones of a neighboring tree. She hustled down the thin trunk and landed with a soft thud as she hit the ground. Sticking just beyond the well-worn trail, the ranger began to stalk forward towards the awful noise, ready for whatever she would soon face.
She didn't recognize whatever made the sound, however there was probably a simple explanation for it. Most likely it was some poor creature in pain. When an animal has been injured, it tended to make the most unusual sounds. Sounds that didn't make sense or stood out in frightening ways. Astra kept an eye out for any unusual tracks as she made her way towards the sound.
(If you see anything you want me to change, please tell me.)

Amber Selva was currently making her way down a dirty path, her best friend following after her. Big, strong friend that happened to be a horse. He was also helping to pull the cart that held all of her goods that she made her living on. She was currently on her way to the capital, looking to sell some of said goods and rack up some coin. However, she blinked slowly upon hearing a loud shriek. Fitz simply glanced around, and asked "What do you think it is?" Yes, plenty of animals talked here. Shrugging her shoulders, she said "Could be something hostile, could be someone hurt. I'll go check it out." No one would come down this path for a while, and Fitz could run pretty fast if anyone did, so she turned to leave. Making her way toward where she heard the noise, she pulled out her sword just in case. If it was a wounded animal, then she would just go up to it and put it out of its misery. If it was some sort of beast, then she hopefully would be able to defend herself. Hopefully it wasn't something too monstrous to where she would have to flee, if it would let her. Huffing, she kept an eye out for whatever it was, weapon at the ready and listening for anything else that might be apart of the situation.

Astra heard the screech again. It wasn't as loud before, but it still echoed through the wood. She began to wonder if it was a territorial call rather than one of distress. Whatever it was, she didn't recognize it, which concerned her. As she contiuned to follow the sound, she caught sight of scratch marks. Etched into the bark of an oak, the marks were long and thick. At the base of the tree were tracks. Most were unclear, but there was a perfect set nearby. Astra leaned down to examine the prints. The tracks were we large, almost as big as a bear. However there were no indentations of claws, which would usually indicate an a wolf. Besides that, the prints were quite rounded. They most likely beloged to a big cat of some kind.
Astra got up and began to follow the tracks. After a while she found a large clearing. Patches of grass were kicked up, probably from digging while branches were broken or torn from trees. Some bushes and smaller trees appeared to be uprooted as well. It was an unusual sight and the half-elf didn't know what to make of it. As she edged into the clearing, she heard a rustling from the other side. In a snap she grabbed her bow and knocked a arrow, ready to strike if she needed to.

AmberSelva looked around warily as she moved through the forestry, sword at the ready as she kept listening. She saw some large tracks, some bushes shaken up as if something passed through their gaps. Continuing on, hazel gaze shifting around the setting as she tried to track or notice any sort of movement. Anything that would possibly give away what she was even looking for. She heard some rustling, and jumped a little. Sounded like footsteps in the grass and leaves, but she didn't call out to see if anyone was there. If it was whatever made the tracks, then she wasn't too keen on finding out what the tracks belonged too, judging by size alone. Sighing softly to calm herself, she continued on, crouched a little as she made her way quietly through the forest. Seeing the clearing in the distance, though a little hidden from her by trees, she made her way toward it, preferring to be out in the open as to not have anything completely surprise her with an attack or something.

As the woman watched the underbrush, a yellow flash lept out. The cat-like creature was large with six legs. It was a golden color and seemed to resemble a cougar. Astra's blood ran cold and her eyes widened as she gazed at the beast. Its teeth were bared as it let out a low growl.
"A wampus?! How the...What?!" Wampus were large feline creatures. Many had a golden coat, but it wasn't unusual to see some with black fur. The awe of the creature quickly faded as it rushed towards her. Astra let out a yelp and scrambled up a nearby tree. The beast lunged forward as she moved. Despite its unusual anatomy, it was quite fast and agile. As Astra climbed the old maple, the wampus snapped at her feet. The large beast wasn't going to let her go without a fight. Letting out an annoyed sigh, the half-elf scurried up to higher branches, trying to get a better vantage point to shoot the thing.

AmberSelva was just about to breach the clearing when she heard a growl. Jumping again, her head turned to see another woman, and the big Wampus that was staring her down. Yeah, she didn't bring her bow, so she decided not to try and help. All she had was her sword, and to be of any use with it she would have to get close to the large cat. So, she just stayed in her hiding place as the beast tried to go after the other woman, who saw fit in climbing up a tree. Her hazel gaze watched the scene, studying the animal as it tried to swipe and grab at her. Ah, Selva hoped the other knew what she was doing. She had seen her with a bow though, so hopefully she could get a shot in and wound it. Maybe even kill it. The human stayed quiet the entire time though, not wanting to make noise that would attract the Wampus' attention to her. She kept her sword ready though, just in case she did end up having to fight for whatever reason. Big cat ot not, she wasn't going to go down without a fight, a good blow or two!

Astra kept an eye on the beast as she prepared to get into another tree. Taking one last glance at the golden creature, the half-elf leapt onto a neighboring spruce. The branches shifted as she jumped and some even broke under the added weight. As she attempted to gain some footing, she slipped on the smooth wood. Astra desperately grabbed the air before she fell and managed to grip one of the branches. She winced in pain as bits of bark stuck in her hand. Clenching her teeth, Astra pulled herself up and secured herself within the tree.
With a better vantage point, the ranger took out her bow and knocked it again. The wampus still had its attention on the first tree. It didn't appear the feline noticed her escape to the spruce, which gave Astra some confidence. Carefully positioning herself, the ranger aimed and let the arrow fly with a snap. She drew another and aimed for its hindquarters. Snap! The second arrow flew and hit the target. The wampus shrieked in pain as it reared around. Wildly, the golden monster pawed at its wounds before turning to the spruce. In an unexpected move, the wampus tammed the tree. Astra lost her footing and began to fall.

Selva watched as the other woman began to fall from the tree. Patting her sides, she remembered she had a dagger with her, pulling it out and looking at the large blade. Putting down her sword, she huffed before moving. Hurrying out a little, fortunately being from an angle behind the wampus, she hesitated before reeling her arm back. Narrowing her eyes, she took a moment to aim before throwing her arm forward, sending the dagger sinking into the feline's hindquarters. It was her turn to scramble though, soon disappearing into the trees, snatching her sword and changing her location, still trying to be as quiet as she could while moving fast. She probably needed to find somewhere quicker though, or perhaps something tall that the cat couldn't knock over. Either way, the creature hadn't seen her, so hopefully she could sneak her way out of this.

The ranger landed with a thud. Her side throbbed and her vision was blurry. She, thankfully, didn't land on her head and it didn't appear anything was broken despite the pain. As she began to get up, the reality of the situation was abrubtly brought back. The wampus snarled at her with its enraged orange eyes glaring. For a moment, the ranger watched the beast to see what it'd do. In her hesitation, she saw the monster shrink back and yelp in pain. As she gazed at the animal, she saw a blur dash behind it. Someone else was there. The beast whipped around and prowled where Astra saw the blur. Biting her lip and knowing she may regret it, the half-elf let out a high-pitched whistle. With a snarl it turned back to her and ran forward. Without hesitation, the woman ran.
By the time the wampus had turned its attention back to Astra, the half-elf had already slipped away beyond its reach. Unfortunately for her, the beast wouldn't stop trying to get to her. The wampus was rampaging now, so she'd have to be careful. Wonder if any of the Crown's Way or Etchwood guard are hearing this. Although she disliked the authority, they would certainly be helpful. Pushing the thoughts aside, Astra focused on the problems of now.
