Nico could understand the woman’s concern. He was grateful for it, actually. Morganville had already proven itself to be full of the type of person who didn’t deserve to be trusted. Amid all of that was a woman who could easily have claimed him as prey. Who could have allowed him to walk into a spider’s trap unarmed and careless. For someone who didn’t actually have business in town, she would have been an invaluable ally. Nico already had allies here, but that didn’t stop him from being grateful anyway. “He… doesn’t know I’m here, no,” Nico admitted, face reddening a little. “He knows who I am, though. He knows I’m a friend, I just… I need to talk to him.” How many humans had tried to ‘talk’ to Myrnin and escaped with their lives? Probably just Claire. Nico pushed the thought away. He wasn’t afraid of his friend. “Thank you,” Nico said after a moment, dipping his head. He was bad at etiquette in a normal town; he had no idea what was polite here. He had to hope this counted. “I uh… I’m sure he’ll be grateful to you as well for helping me find my way. I’d… love to tell him you helped, Miss…?” He was praying this was actually someone who might be aided by being in Myrnin’s good graces. Someone the older vampire might have not been aware. He was mostly hoping this wasn’t Amelie. It wouldn’t due to accidentally insult the woman in charge.

The woman snorted and shook her head. "Nah. I don't need him to know my name. I don't think you quite understand, kid. He eats vampires too." She sat back in her seat, silent for the most part, and then she waved him on. This was enough. She wasn't inclined in the least to offer any more assistance, if only because there just wasn't anything more within her reason that she could do. So she was just interested in getting Nico moving along. "Have a good time," she said, in a tone which said she doubted he'd do anything of the kind. It was just a fact of the situation. And then she turned back to het work. Nico was dismissed.

Nico had certainly never heard anything about Myrnin eating vampires, but knowing what he did about his friend’s history, he wouldn’t be surprised if the rumor was true. He would be even less surprised if the rumor had come about based on assumptions made about Myrnin rather than any solid proof. Nonetheless, Nico didn’t want to press the woman too much, especially with her being the only one to have given him anything concrete to work from. He was more grateful than her than he had words to say. It would have been much easier for her to eat him than to answer his questions, especially since he didn’t have a patron. “Thank you, still,” he breathed, saluting her quickly before he made his way into the spider’s web.

Outside, a light mist had kicked up. Which was likely not a good side-effect of the lateness for Nico to have to deal with. Instead, it was the simple fact that there was just ... no one on the streets. There was, however, a distinct sensation of eyes on Nico almost at once. Maybe that vampire who'd left was still around. Either way, the directions he'd gotten would be accurate. It would lead him though the streets and into the alley-like street that would eventually lead to Myrnin. And that's when the feeling of being watched abruptly cut off. Leaving Nico just ... there. Waiting to see if he'd enter the place he'd specifically been warned about. And of course there was always the debate on if Myrnin would notice he was there first and try to lure him in. Because there was something there. Almost like a whisper. A tempting whisper. A siren sound of a whisper.

Nico could see in the dark fairly well for a demigod, though not nearly as well as a vampire. He usually had the added advantage that he could see people’s auras around them – he could tell when there were living people nearby. He could also tell when there were remnants of the dead. Vampires weren’t either. They weren’t alive, but they weren’t the sort of dead he could command (at least… he hadn’t tried, and he didn’t think he wanted to risk it). Nico shuddered, trying to shake off the feeling of being watched. He was used to being in danger, but that didn’t mean he was used to being hunted. It reminded him just a little too much of Tartarus. He wasn’t going to get anywhere if he just stood there, though, so he pressed forward into the alley, eyes locked on the dark end. There would be a door, at the end, and then there would be Myrnin. Once he was with Myrnin… he was under no illusion that he would be safe, but at least he would know who he was allowed to kill in self defense and who would get him arrested.

There was a feeling that would come over Nico almost as soon as he entered the alley. And while it was a good feeling, he’d likely recognize it in some part of his brain as a bad thing that it actually was. It was a bit like being lulled to sleep. A bit like a siren. A whole lot dangerous. What did happen was up to Nico. But it was potentially not going to be in time for Myrnin to recognize him.

Nico edged forward, immediately on edge. As far as he knew, the thing at the end of the alley was just Myrnin. That said, ‘just Myrnin’ was only a comfort to someone like Nico who knew the vampire well. Someone who would be recognized by him. With the way the thing in the alley was luring Nico forward, he didn’t know if recognition was going to occur. Nico had no right to be here. He was visiting unannounced. There was a reason Odysseus had been secured to the mast of his ship when he had decided to listen to the sirens. Slowly, Nico edged forward, hand on the hilt of his sword. He didn’t want to be caught unawares, but the fact remained that his quarry was at the end of the alleyway, trap or no trap.

And trap it was. The call seemed to grow twofold in volume, then … cut off. After several long seconds, there was a creak from the end of the alley. All that was there was a broken up fence and a vague sense an equally broken house was behind it. The creak had come from the fence posts being pushed aside and a familiar, slightly grubby vampire pushing himself out into the alley. “Nico?” Myrnin asked, sounding slightly shocked. “Why are you here?” Clearly hadn’t expected this at all.

Nico felt the call grow louder, felt it pull him in like it was the only thing in his mind. Nothing else seemed to matter, he just… needed to see what was at the end of the alley. And then, as suddenly as it had started, it was gone. Nico startled a little, wariness immediately replacing the desire to follow the call. Somehow he found himself even more curious about what lay at the end of the alley than he had been when the call had been pulling him towards it. What could produce a call that compelling? This was, he knew, why Odysseus had needed to tied down when he passed the sirens… “Oh,” Nico replied, immediately fixing his attention on Myrnin. “I guess… I figured… I have something you need to know. I wouldn’t have risked it if it wasn’t important, but… Pax. It’s about Pax.”

Pax? Myrnin froze and looked Nico up and down. Then he hurried forward, untangling himself from the broken remains of a chain-link fence and stumbling toward Nico until he could jerk to a stop in front of him. Apparently the siren call, for the time being, was forgotten. "What about Pax?" His voice was completely tense. Clearly expecting Nico to say he was dead. Or something else, perhaps.

“He cheated death,” Nico said after a moment, surprised by Myrnin’s reaction. He had known the vampire would want news of Pax, of course, but the almost desperate way he approached took Nico by surprise. “That’s what they’re saying in the Underworld. I think… I think that means he became a vampire, but I can’t say for certain. I… I don’t know, I’m sorry. But I wouldn’t have come here if I didn’t think it was urgent. And… I don’t know for sure, but I think I might be able to track him. Or at least start to tell where he is… maybe not exactly, but…” he trailed off, awkwardly fiddling with the zipper of his jacket. “I just thought I should tell you. And soon, before they stop talking about it.”

This was *not* what Myrnin had expected at all. He froze. Because the implications of that were ... not good. "... Do whatever you can," he breathed. Then he just ... sat down. Right there, on the road that had slowly changed to the overgrown weeds that bordered his broken down fence. "Poor Sam," he murmured. He wasn't sure how to tell him. He could only assume it was the same person who had changed Sam. The one he didn't talk about and didn't seem to want to remember. Argh. "When was this? A couple minutes? Hours? A day?"

Nico shifted uncomfortably. He didn’t want to be put right back in the path of the Sam that wasn’t his, but… if he had to to save Pax, then he would. He knew Sam. He knew what his family meant to him, and if he could reunite Sam and Pax in any version of the world, even if it was one where Sam didn’t know who he was… he forced himself to breathe, feeling panic and frustration start to bubble up inside him. “A couple of hours,” he said after a moment, running a hand through his hair as he thought. “I tried to get here as soon as I heard. I would have known earlier, but I’ve been trying to spend more time with the living than the dead, and…” he shrugged helplessly, despair creasing his features. “Sorry, Myrnin.”

There really was nothing to be sorry about as far as Myrnin was concerned. He was much more focused on the fact that Nico seemed to be injuring himself in his actions. "Come inside," he said, stepping away from the opening in the fence. "You look like you need to sit down." Or at least he could use some semblance of a rest. There just wasn't a particularly good place to do so out here. And yes, Sam would be there, but Myrnin was hoping to cross that rather treacherous bridge at some other point in the near future. He'd have to tell Sam what had happened anyway ... "Come on," he added, hoping to encourage Nico.
