(Speaking as someone who hears stories second hand ... wow does Nico sound like a veteran.)
Looking down at the coin with curiosity, Myrnin asked, "And how would I do that? Iris message you, that is." He turned the small coin over and over around in his hand. "And I certainly will ..." He wasn't sure what Nico could help with, but he hoped he'd be able to find something. Though there was the issue with the fact that there were a bunch of moving parts to anything concerned. Vampiric moving parts. As it was though? Myrnin had missed his friend. Missed him all the more now that there didn't seem to be a way that Nico would find his way back to the Paradox House. At least it was something but ... well ... he was missing a lot of friends. At that point, Myrnin had to wonder if there was any way that Nico could meet friends in Morganville. But that was a question for another time. He spun the coin around once more and looked at the sky. It was getting late. He really did have to go. "I'll see you soon," he assured his friend.

(Well that means I'm doing something right aaa. Glad to hear the characterization is coming across)
“Either find or create a rainbow,” Nico replied with a small shrug. Toss it in and ask Iris if you can speak with me. She should listen, especially if she can hear me right now. You have my permission to reach out for me… so that should be enough to let it go through, even though you’re not a demigod. Also you have a drachma.” Nico wasn’t too worried about it. Myrnin was terribly clever. If they found something in Morganville they could use Nico’s help on, Myrnin would indubitably find a way to let Nico know even if the Iris messages completely failed. Well… as long as he was motivated to tell Nico. He had a feeling his friend had doubts about getting him involved, but… he wanted to be. That was all he thought should have mattered. “See you soon,” Nico echoed, forcing a smile he didn’t quite feel. He glanced down at the ground, then slid so his feet were hanging over the edge of the Big House. He dropped, landing not entirely gracefully on the grass below. They had done the illicit thing. He just… hadn’t thought he’d need to say goodbye so quickly.

--- Myrnin and Sam and Lady Grey eventually returned to Morganville. In the case of Myrnin, without being able to tell Nico that this was where he was going. There hadn't been anything. Nothing even to tell his friend about. And Sam? Sam had been oddly frowny and not sure about what had happened with the strange boy at all who had randomly entered the hotel room when he had been distracted about his brother. Now that they were back at Morganville though, there seemed like there was nothing that Myrnin could do. However, there was something which Nico could, whether Nico was aware of it or not. Considering, if he was still looking for it, there was now several souls who were quite ... chatty ... about the existence of a certain vampire.

Nico wasn’t really looking for anything in particular. He was just spending time around the Underworld, doing what he could to spend time with the lives that otherwise might feel as though they had been left behind. He knew what it was like to feel forgotten. To not remember. He couldn’t change the way the souls on the outskirts of the Underworld felt, but he might be able to remember their names. He might be able to say hello and ask them how they were doing. He might be able to make them remember that they had made an impact, that someone alive remembered them. Nico didn’t speak with them for the gossip, but that was what he got sometimes anyway. Usually he didn’t recognize any of the names, but that didn’t matter to him. What mattered was that the souls he spoke to had something to tell him, and he was happy to listen no matter how irrelevant the information. What he hadn’t expected this time was a name he recognized. A name that mattered to him. A soul had escaped the Underworld. Had started to phase in before being snatched right back out. A vampire, possibly. A vampire. Paxton Salinas. Consequences be damned, Nico shadow travelled himself to Morganville.

Where Nico actually intended to end up was anyone's guess, because he didn't make it to Myrnin's lab. Though if that mattered was up for debate if Myrnin wasn't actually there. Instead, he was in the part directly below the lab, frowning up the wiring of a light which was currently blinking in and out as if it was on some kind of strobe. Darn. It wasn't even like many humans came down here, excluding Claire, but Samuel liked them. The lights, that was. He seemed to find them ... comforting. And Myrnin was trying to be understanding of that. Which left how to fix it without making it into a whole project. He wanted to make the light into a mini TV. "Your friend just turned up," said a scathing voice from somewhere above Myrnin's head. He looked up. There was a speaker. The speaker was speaking in Frank's voice. "The gloomy one," the voice clarified. Myrnin frowned ... then said with worry, "Where ...?"

Nico hadn’t considered what time it was when he shadow traveled. He probably should have – in general ghosts were more active at night, if only because that was when they were more visible, but he hadn’t managed to correlate that with the fact that vampires would be active in Morganville. If Nico had a little bit more energy, he may have tried to shadow travel a second time, this time to land him all the way in Myrnin’s lab. He glanced at his hand, wincing at the way the streetlight could almost be seen through it. No more shadow travel for today, it seemed. There were other life forms around. Nothing human, of course, which made the life more difficult to detect. Vampires always felt like death, but in the gloom of the night it was difficult to notice. They seemed to blend in. For the first time, Nico wondered if the auras of dead things looked as they did partially to hide them from children of Hades who may decide to hunt them. The question now was who was the hunter and who was the hunted? Nico tried to remember the rules. Injuring a vampire was a bad idea. Nico had a blade that could hurt mortals and monsters alike, but he didn’t actually know if it would be enough to injure a vampire. He had never tried it on either Myrnin or Sam. Besides, the punishment for hurting a vampire was probably more than Nico wanted to go through. He needed to get out of here before he was found, and he needed to find Myrnin – quickly.

Finding Myrnin would likely be harder than he though. For starters, because there was no sign of where Nico was. No sign of what he might have to do to get where Myrnin was. Instead there was just dark alleys and the darker sense, almost at once, that he was being watched. It was like the vampires of Morganville could sense weakness. Not that Nico was weak, but that he was an outsider. He was a person no one would miss. Maybe they had seen him arrive, maybe they hadn't, but either way they were attracted to him like a moth to a light. He was easy prey. He was alone. It took maybe a minute or three before an actual figure turned up. It was a slim woman, by all looks, and her black hair was tied back into a high ponytail. There was a thin twitch to her lips. "Lost?" she asked. "Who might you be?" It was hard to tell whether she was friendly or not. It seemed a bit up for debate. But her clothing were dark and Nico at least would be able to tell that she was a vampire. She was obviously moving more smoothly and with a purpose that only Myrnin had been able to express thus far. "I'm Bell," she greeted, arching an eyebrow after her long pause.

Nico looked up at the feeling of life near him. Well… not life, exactly. The weird not quite life that vampires seemed to have. He was familiar with it from spending so much time with Myrnin and Sam, and, for a while, even Rue. There were plenty of vampires in the House, and they had long ago learned not to see the other blinkers as prey. In Morganville, though, Nico knew that he seemed like the best target. He wasn’t under any vampire’s protection; he was a newcomer. He didn’t belong here. He bit his lip, doing his best to keep moving forward and ignore her. He had thought it would be easier to find Myrnin than it was. He couldn’t feel him. He could just feel all of the vampires around him… “Nice to meet you, Bell,” Nico murmured, looking up to meet her eyes. He wasn’t afraid. He felt as though he probably should have been. She was dangerous, and he was just one boy in a town full of vampires. He was also an experienced fighter, and any weakness would be a reason for her to attack. “I’m here on business, actually,” he said, trying to sound as official and commanding as he could. “I’m sure Myrnin would be indebted to you if you were to guide me to him.” Myrnin had power here, right? Hopefully he was right about that… he had to rely on the hope that mentioning him by name might make Bell at least think twice before she attacked. He wasn’t going to give her his own name – not yet. That seemed like the sort of weapon she could use against him, and he wanted to keep that close to his chest.

There seemed to be a lot of consideration from Bell as she looked Nico over. Judgingly, by the looks of things. As if she didn't really know how to respond to his name-dropping. "I don't have a good grasp of who he is," she said after a while. But then she stepped along the street, following along the sidewalk. "But if you are aware of the more prominent members of Morganville, than doubtless it will serve you better if you weren't out in the darker corners like this." She indicated ahead, where the nearest, sporadic streetlight was. She seemed to be walking straight to it. "So even if I don't know his residence, you'd be advised to head for Texas Prairie University. It's safer than these streets. And to my knowledge, that is the end of town where he resides. Though you may need to ask a more prominent vampire." She continued walking along, glancing over her shoulder as she did, until she was standing under the streetlight and waiting for Nico. Waiting and watching him carefully.

Nico didn’t trust Bell. He didn’t know what her goal was, and, as a vampire, she could hurt him. Badly. He didn’t want to risk that, but he didn’t really see that he had any other option. She didn’t know where Myrnin was (he doubted that, actually, he just didn’t think she was willing to tell him where Myrnin was. “Personally, I think standing in the only light sources around is a great way to get myself noticed by people who aren’t nearly as kind as you,” Nico replied, a bit of wariness in his tone. He hadn’t decided yet whether Bell was actually kind, but he figured it was best to give her the benefit of the doubt at least when addressing her. If he followed her into the streetlight, what would happen? It seemed unlikely that she wanted to invite the attention of other vampires, but he couldn’t be certain how the hierarchy worked. If she wanted to attack him… why hadn’t she done it yet. “You said Texas Prairie University is that way?” Nico asked, pointing ahead, past the streetlight. It seemed like his best option, for now. If he could get into the University, he would be able to wait out the night and hopefully ask some less bloodthirsty members of town where to find Myrnin in the morning.

"Yes," Bell agreed. "It's that way." She looked off in that direction, than back at Nico. "Technically speaking, it's the reverse." She stepped out of the flickering streetlight. Now she, apart from her pale skin, was once again rather hard to see. "Se, I can spot you from a mile away. Your heat. Your heart. The pumping of blood in your veins. You can't do the same for me." Clearly she didn't know who Nico was. "Electric lights are a ... illusion of safety at best. We don't like any bright light. So I would say that is at least partly annoying. But wouldn't save you. I think the biggest bet is if you're there ... at least someone else might see if you die." She sounded fairly nonchalant and didn't bother approaching Nico. She just stood there for a couple more seconds. Then she turned away. "Good luck." From there, she started walking in the direction of the alley.

It was clear that Bell thought Nico was an ordinary human. It was an easy mistake to make, of course. There was very little to mark him as anything other than human. It meant, however, that she thought him much more defenseless than he actually was. He had to admit, though, that it would be helpful to make vampires step into the light if they wanted to attack him. Especially if he had been a normal human. Nico made a mental note to mention Bell to Myrnin – he had no idea if she had any ulterior motives, but she was nice. He wasn’t convinced that she didn’t want to eat him, especially since he wasn’t under any vampire’s protection, but… still. “Thanks,” he said after a moment, dipping his head. “I’ll keep that in mind the more time I spend around here. Although… I’d prefer to avoid dying in general.” His hand rested on the hilt of his sword, betraying the fact that he wasn’t as unprepared as he might have seemed. “Good luck to you, too. In whatever you’re out doing tonight,” he said, quietly enough that Bell wouldn’t have been able to hear were she not a vampire.

"Of course," said Bell. "Thank you." Then she seemed to completely retreat from view. Even to Nico's senses. Because that was what she did. She left. There wasn't a reason to stay, not really, and she simply disappeared from the area. Maybe any of the other vampires around went as well, maybe they didn't. Either way, it seemed like Nico was alone, for the time being. If he was to go in, say, the direction of the streetlamp, there would indeed be a sign regarding the university and where to go to get there. There was even a little arrow. Now, whether Nico decided to go that way was completely up to him, but there was already at least some grounds for a possibility of another, not so nice, vampire finding him.

The university was a pool of light in an otherwise very dark world. At least that was what it looked like to anyone coming toward it. Unlike other nightlife universities ... this one didn't have one. Oh, there were people about - some - but they were rushing along with a purpose of someone who knew they really shouldn't be out. Dying was hardly going to be weighed against a late paper. Even still, it didn't look like there were very many people who might be labeled as responsible adults. It was all around hard to say where Nico could go. Other than one of the buildings. That was always a good option. Distantly, there was also the sound of a car, tracing the street just along the universities edge. It had 'Sheriff' on the side of it, so that was always a possibility. Though Nico might not want the attention of the Morganville sheriff.

Nico glanced at the university, stunned by its complete lack of nightlife. He knew, of course, that parties and the like were risky in a town full of vampires, but it still surprised him. As far as he was aware, there were plenty University students who weren’t aware that the town was full of vampires. Unless things had changed since Myrnin had first told him about Morganville… he shook the thought off, then crossed the street to make it safely onto university grounds. He noticed the sheriff, and though he wasn’t aware they might be a threat, he figured it was better to avoid notice by anyone. The sooner he could find Myrnin, the better. He was, however, beginning to wonder if waiting until morning was truly the best course of action. It wasn’t as though the humans would either know or be willing to tell him where one of the most important vampires in town lived. Maybe he needed to draw the attention of another vampire. Preferably an important one. Decision made, Nico sat down at the very edge of campus. It was shrouded in darkness and perfectly secluded – ideal for a vampire to sneak up on him.

This was exactly what happened. Just later, rather than sooner. Some vampires weren't idiots about approaching what seemed to be a random student at the edge of the university. Maybe that was simply because it was the edge. Still protected area ... sort of. But eventually Nico was approached by a vampire. Just 'approached' might have been a stretch of the word. For a second, there was nothing. Then a blur and a vampire was indeed attempting to press Nico to the ground, fangs out, ready to bite and likely kill the teen. There was no hesitation in the attack - but a hesitation in the execution. Like the vampire wanted Nico to scream or rage or give some sort of attention in the form of a reaction. There was very little attempt on the part of the vampire to look human though. Just fangs and red eyes and obvious hunger.

Right. Vampires were fast. Nico had a sense of the vampire before they were upon him, but he barely had time to react before there was a pressure against him, pressing him to the ground. And, because the vampire seemed to be quite the showman, just enough of a pause for Nico to draw his sword and press the tip lightly against the vampire’s sternum. “This isn’t silver,” he murmured, eyes dark and glittering as he met the vampire’s in the dark. This was a gamble, and it could easily end in Nico’s death. It was a risk he had to be willing to take. “This isn’t a wooden stake, either. But I promise this sword will kill you if I push it up with any force at all. Do you understand? I am not the easy prey you think I am. But if you lead me to Myrnin, I bet he has some spare blood lying around for you. Or maybe I’ll let you have a couple sips of mine.”

The vampire froze. Teeth bared, a snarl rumbling in their throat, but not actually acting upon what they very clearly wanted to do. They stopped, thinking maybe, and looked at the sword. The reflective properties of their eyes were highlighted in the glare from the streetlights. Their hair hung down, almost touching Nico's face. They didn't look like they particularly wanted to help. There was a rough chuckle, however. And then the fangs sheathed. "Sure thing." It did not sound like this vampire was that convinced. There was a sharp look in their eyes. Predatory. But calculating as well. But it was completely up to Nico whether or not he really wanted to follow any directions from this particular being. After all, he'd just tossed around a big name and also a gross misunderstanding of how Morganville worked. Tough on him.

Nico wasn’t sure he wanted this vampire to have any of his blood, but it was the only thing he had to bargain with. He also didn’t know for sure if Myrnin had any blood laying around. He doubted it, but the vampire was clearly hungry. Even if Myrnin wasn’t likely to have any blood, wasn’t the possibility worth more than the injury that would definitely occur if the vampire continued to try to attack? Slowly, Nico sheathed his sword as well, taking a small step back from the vampire. He didn’t like to be too near to people, and the vampire had crossed a boundary. He had to remind himself that it was okay. He had to remind himself that this was to get to Myrnin. It was important. “Thanks,” Nico said smoothly, giving a smile he didn’t really feel. “What’s your name? I’ll be sure to let Myrnin know how helpful you’ve been.” He was telling the truth. If the vampire actually helped, Nico would be more than willing to commend him. He didn’t trust that he would actually help, though.

It was a good thing that Nico didn't trust the vampire to help. They didn't actually make any attempt to respond to Nico's questions. Or anything which he said. It didn't seem, to the vampire, to be worth the trouble. After all, Nico was clearly a naïve stranger in Morganville. How else would he believe that any vampire was clearly unable to get blood. No, no there wasn't really any excuse for a starving vampire in Morganville. Only ones that wanted to hunt. And name dropping one of the leaders of Morganville was unlikely to get him anything other than disbelieve. The vampire seemed to debate attacking Nico again. Sneered, really. Fangs and everything. Then bolted. There was no way it was going to hang around prey that fought this hard. And a pointy stick was a pointy stick. They just weren't going to deal with it. What Nico did after that was completely up to him.

The lights of some of the college buildings were on, that was for sure. They were like little halos of reason in a darker than usual town. A darker than usual campus, come to that. How did one even differentiate between campus violence and Morganville violence at that point? But if Nico was looking for potentially less toothy help, the campus was an option. Alternatively, there were plenty of dark streets to explore, if he wanted to try his luck. Not all vampires out and about had to be like the one which he had just met. Even still, he was a young human (mostly) in a town he didn't know. He had choices to make.

Nico wasn’t sure he liked being in Morganville all alone. He knew it was a dangerous town, and though he wasn’t used to towns that weren’t dangerous, this felt dangerous in a different way altogether. Morganville was dangerous in a way Nico couldn’t just kill. Monsters would just respawn later, possibly with a thirst for vengeance. Vampires weren’t monsters. They were people, in a strange way. They would die, and Nico didn’t want that on his conscience, even if they were actively trying to kill him. He glanced back at campus, deciding to try his luck. He avoided the dorm buildings. There were students in those, staying up and trying to study. It was darker than most colleges he had seen, but… there were still students awake. He decided to move towards the buildings with lights on that displayed significantly less evidence of the sort of life that had heartbeats.

Finally, Nico seemed to luck out. Or at the very least he seemed to have found some responsible people in the direction he'd been heading. The first person in the building looked up, noticed Nico's attire, his general disheveled, and not only marked him as a person from outside of Morganville, but also one that needed help. "Oh dear," she said. She didn't look like a vampire, exactly, but there was hints that this was what she probably was. She was also a lot older than one who who'd attacked Nico. "I take it you've had a rough run-around? Did you need something? You don't look like 'an explanation' is at the top of the list either." Her eyes were narrowed just a bit, but she seemed willing to hear Nico out.

Adjusting her posture, the woman seemed very inclined to laugh at Nico. For a while, she almost did. Then she just asked, "If you have a death wish, I assure you that there are a lot of better ways than going to the spider's den." She was still looking Nico over through, eyeing him up and down as she seemed to consider his overall attitude. It was hard to think about the fact that he wasn't just a snack. He looked like one. But eventually she leaned back in her chair, humming under her breath. "You're serious. Does he know you? Because that's probably the only way that you're mostly safe to go near him. If you aren't, then you'd do better luck checking in at the Bureau if you're looking for a fancy patron. Though if you're an out-of-towner than you'll probably need a good amount of money for that."

Nico looked at the woman, his hands clenching into fists in his jacket pockets before he forced them to release. This felt like a trick, though he wasn’t sure if the woman was even aware of that. If Nico revealed the truth, would she try to take advantage of him? It would probably better if she just thought he was a clueless human wandering around Morganville looking for the most powerful vampire to become his patron. If he told the truth… then someone who considered themself Myrnin’s enemy could use Nico’s presence in Morganville as a trap. Nico could be bait for the trapdoor spider. He shook the thought away. He may not have understood the vampire politics, but he knew Myrnin was powerful. If someone wanted to use Nico against him, they would have to be pretty powerful themself. He doubted very many people here, human or vampire, wanted to get on Myrnin’s bad side. “We’re… friends, actually,” Nico replied, aware he had taken far too long to reply. “I think he’s a lot less likely to kill me than most people around here.”

The woman blinked at him. He'd taken a while to respond, but he didn't seem to be lying. "Okay then," she said, as if she'd just heard a really strange fairytale and wasn't sure if she should like it or not. "Does he know that? Because if you get close to his place and he doesn't know you're here ... well ... good luck telling him before he snaps your neck." She pointed out at the door. "But it isn't too far. Take the main street about four blocks, turn left when you see the lit light post and a house that looks like it's older compared to the other houses but it has a fresh coat of paint. Then just keep walking straight. The whole street is going to narrow and his place - if you call it that - is at the end. Can't miss it." It was the sort of directions you'd get in a small town. Literally no street names and just assuming you could pick out basic landmarks. Could have been worse. She could have said 'past the Day House' and who but someone who lived here would have a shred of a chance knowing what that'd look like.
