Something to go here???)) Characters by order of appearance (for future reference when I no doubt have Lady Grey or someone appear and you want to know what they look like): - Myrnin: dark brown haired vampire, hair tied back in a ponytail. Ten years after the events of Daylighters by Rachel Caine, currently following along to the events of my fic Immortal Rules and Sound Between.
- Nico: Nico from Percy Jackson, you know who he is.
- Frank: Computer which runs the Morganville boarders. Looks like a cross between a computer and a steampunk themed explosion down in the sub-sub-basement of Myrnin's lab. Very unfriendly.
- Shane: Claire's husband. Looks to be in his early 30s or late 20s. Blond hair.
- Claire: Shane's wife. Around her early 30s or late 20s. Has red-brown hair. Myrnin's apprentice
- Lady Grey (Jesse): Myrnin's girlfriend. Based off Lady Jane Grey. Has red hair. Is around her early 20s. Vampire.
- Samuel Salinas: Looks to be in his teens. Dirty blond hair (could be considered brown). Latino. Brown eyes. Wears a necklace with a stylized gold bird charm. Adopted as Myrnin's charge when he was abandoned on the borders of Morganville.
- NOT Samuel Salinas but ANOTHER Sam: All of the above is applicable apart from: Is Nico's boyfriend and was NOT adopted by Myrnin but instead existed in a Doctor Who AU. He does not exist in this world. Because we're breaking hearts here in this RP.
- Arthur Dee: Vaguely historical character who died at age 72 and lived in the 1500s - 1600s. Had deals with Nico and Myrnin in the past.

The vampire hadn't seen this much water since he'd moved to Morganville. He'd crossed the ocean and then there had been the long journey inland, away from the natural predators for him and his friends. But the Draug were gone now - or at least he assumed they were. If he was wrong, then he guessed he'd be eaten. His legs were dangling in the frankly dirty water. Humans had set up a path around it to walk. He hadn't been walking. He'd just wanted to be here, instead of Morganville. It had taken a long time to convince Amelie to let him come here. There had been many things he'd had to promise Amelie and more. And he hadn't been aloud to come here alone, but for now, he was away from his 'guides'. There were a thousand things that he wanted to do. But the biggest one was to avoid the crowd and wait for the sun to completely set. It was almost there, just hanging at the horizon. He didn't watch it. It would just hurt his eyes. Instead, he tilted the hard-hat he was wearing further down over his ears. The hard-hat had feathers pasted to it in a plume. A red scarf around his neck, one end of it hanging into the water. Then there was the frock coat, the pajama pants, and the shoes. The latter of which he'd at least set on the ground beside him. They appeared to be snow boots. He was humming a song by Owl City under his breath, feet splashing around in the water. How did he plan on getting attention, anyway? Nico said he sometimes was in New York. There wouldn't be much chance that he'd just run into the demigod. Or was it? He pulled something out of a pocket. It looked like a compass, but more was attached to it than it should have. It looked like there was a sparking wire dangling from it as well. He watched the needle on it spin, then point off in a direction. "If this is working," he muttered. "Then can it really find a nearby demigod?"

Nico was nearby-ish. Fortunately - or unfortunately, depending on how Myrnin's compass worked - he wasn't near any other demigods. He was off on his own, underground, because quite honestly, where else would he be? In all seriousness, he never did get much time alone, and he always made sure to use the time he did get alone to the best of his abilities. He closed his eyes and attempted to shadow travel, putting him about a mile from where he'd just been - and about 3/4ths of a mile closer to Myrnin, though of course he had no idea his friend was nearby. He opened his eyes, surprised to find he was above ground - he hadn't really been thinking of where he was planning on going, he had just decided to... well, go. And he did still seem to be all in one piece, which was quite a success. He was getting better at managing his strength and power when he used it, though he had expended so much of his power when he was younger that there really wasn't all that much left to use safely. He was still quietly hoping he'd recover to the strength he'd had when he was ten or fourteen. He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, ready to try again when he noticed a familiar-ish figure straight ahead of him - though facing the opposite direction.

There were several puzzled seconds where Myrnin had looked at his sorry excuse of a compass and wondered if it was broken. The needle, which had been pointing West, had turned to face North. The vampire shook the compass, which sparked out of protest over this abuse. He looked around, in the direction of where it was now pointing him. One eyebrow slowly arched. Then the other. Nico was older than he remember, but this wasn't really what surprised him. He looked just the same as always. Same hair, same spreading, manic grin. What could he say? Vampire. What surprised Myrnin was he hadn't turned at once to notice Nico. Shouldn't he have guessed it was the demigod? He didn't exactly know many others who could just appear (he knew no others at all. Not really. Seeing memories didn't count). The compass was dropped into the bay and his shoes were ignored on the beach as he stood. There was a small patch of sun between himself and Nico and he ran through it without seeming to notice. The feathers on his hard-hat flapped. "Nico!" he said excitedly. He didn't attempt to hug him. He already had the memo signed and delivered when it came to this. But he did dance a couple close circles around the demigod, bouncing on his heal. "I found you!" he said excitedly. He hadn't. Not really. He'd probably been tracking him, but it was a bit of luck when this was the time Nico had shadow-traveled toward him. "Do you remember me? Hum? Hum? Myrnin?" He pulled off his hat, as if that would make him more recognizable.

Nico ducked slightly as Myrnin shouted his name, a blush rising to his cheeks. "Announce it to all of Long Island, why don't you?" the demigod retorted, but it was clear the words were only in jest. The boy was actually smiling, looking truly happy for the first time in a while? "Do I remember you?" Nico repeated, eyebrows raising. He had a decision to make. Be sappy as all get out, pretend not to know the vampire, or just shake it off. The first option was surprisingly appealing to him. "How could I not remember you? You saved my life too many times for me to forget." He let himself smile again, coming closer to Myrnin than he would have usually been comfortable coming. "The House did something good there, at least..." he scanned over Myrnin's face for a few moments. "How are you here? Not that I mind, it's just... how? And how did you find me?" Nico crossed his arms, his head tilted inquisitively to the side. He was becoming more like his ten year old self by the moment, though Myrnin had never really known him like that. It was a good thing, though, that the demigod seemed to be opening up again. "Is everything alright?" Suddenly the demigod was worried about Myrnin's sudden appearance here. It could be a surprise visit, but it could also mean something was very wrong.

"I could," said Myrnin happily. "But I doubt Long Island would listen. Humans usually don't." He seemed very chipper now. Still excited beyond logical measurements. And then Nico said he remembered Myrnin and Myrnin beamed. Both of his hands came together in an excited clap. He hadn't expected Nico to react in this way. He was a lot more pleased than he had been in a while. "How ...?" He seemed to forget how he had found Nico and then he looked back toward the water. "Hold that thought!" he said, holding up an index finger and then running back toward the water. He waded in, fishing out the compass. It no longer sparked and the needle was still pointing North. Whether this meant it was still working or not, Myrnin didn't know. He shook it out before walking back toward the demigod, holding it out for him to see. "This thing. It's supposed to point to the nearest demigod. Not like I could actually test it or anything. But it pointed here, so I assumed it must at least be close." That was part of the 'how' anyway. He paused long enough to bang the compass against his hand, then shrugged one shoulder. He looked up at the second question. The one which inquired about his motives. There was some hesitation there as well. Truthfully, he would have liked to say the only reason he had come here was because he'd wanted to see Nico. But that wouldn't have flown with Amelie. 'I want to visit a friend' wasn't a good reason to let him out of Morganville when he was the one who ran all the equipment. He raised one hand and made a so-so gesture. "Nothing imperative. I was told detective work was mostly walking around. I did not assume it would be all the way to New York. I got here in one of those new things. Airplanes. Amazing inventions. Would have made crossing to America a lot easier when I first came. Amelie was convinced to let me come under some conditions. I am ... there's a word ... 'ditching' my guides and charge." He chuckled a little. "But that isn't a large detail. I haven't been here in several hundred years. I do not believe they had 'MacDonald's' ... whatever that is. And someone tried to sell me life insurance over my phone on the way here, which I found ridiculous. They didn't have all this when I was here before. Are there still any places which sell hats? This one slips over my eyes. Is everything alright with you? I did not mean to interrupt anything important."

Nico took a small step back as Myrnin entered the water, on reflex. "Poseidon could've taken that from you very easily," he noted, crossing his arms. "You're kind of in godly territory now. You're lucky none of them have a grudge on you - careful, their grudge on me tends to wear off on other people," he gave a strained smile, offering an arm to help Myrnin back out of the water. "Not very useful as a tracking device. There are demigods all over Long Island and hundreds more just wandering because they haven't made it to either camp yet. I'm surprised it brought you this far." He shrugged, as though it was a mere surprising anomaly rather than what was quite possibly an impossibility. "You got lucky." He listened further as Myrnin explained slightly more. "You're also lucky about airplanes. I don't recall ever traveling in one. I don't think that I'd like to... sounds like a good way to get booted out of the sky." he rolled his eyes in a rather friendly way, brushing his hands off on his black jeans. "You haven't been here in a long time, I take it. McDonalds is a gift to humanity, though also probably quite bad for you and not something that you'd enjoy. Can you eat fast food? Ghosts like it but you're a good deal more living than a ghost..." he considered before turning back to Myrnin with a look of disbelief in his eyes. "Did you really just ask after a milliner's shop? Are milliners common in Morganville? Because you can get a hat but I don't think it'll be the kind of hat you're looking for... or one that fits particularly well if you did find the style you wanted..." he trailed off as Myrnin once again jumped to another point. "I wasn't doing anything important. Just shadow traveling. Taking some time away from camp."

"If he'd taken it I would have just made another," Myrnin said dismissively. Though there was a couple seconds where he considered pressing his luck. It wasn't like he wanted to anger the gods. He'd just like to see if he could. Sort of like poking at a wasp's nest to find out what it did. Everyone had done that once, right? Still, he knew not to press his luck. A lightning bolt from the heavens (that was Zeus, he corrected himself) would still probably kill him. "Well," he said. "My aim was to just ask any demigod I found if they knew where you were. And I did end up in New York to begin with. You said you hung around here." He grinned. "If 'forget' names, but I do have a head for some things. So I just followed this around for a while." Luck, like Nico said; at least he hoped it was luck. Nico had just said it was god territory. He wasn't sure how he felt if his feet had been guided by one of them or something. But that probably wasn't how it worked. "I doubt," he said after a second. "That the gods would pay very much attention to vampires. Do they even know we exist? Or care?" It wasn't like he knew. Truthfully, he hadn't even know Nico existed in his world. The House was funny in a way. Infuriating was another word. Myrnin had had all his fingers and toes crossed that somehow their worlds were the same. And then the compass had worked and ... well ... after a bit of roundaboutness, he'd ended up here. Absentmindedly, he wiped his wet hands off in the feathers pasted to his hard hat. "Depends on how fast the food is. I can run very, very fast." His face was so serious it was impossible to tell he was joking. Until he winked at Nico and explained, "I can eat it. I have no idea if I like it. There is 'fast food' in Morganville. Of the kind that humans eat, at any rate. But it does not seem to have so many shops. I have seen three in my time here." He seemed to be eyeing Nico in such a way to both be a suggestion to go to one and not to actually ask. Because this was Nico and maybe Nico didn't want to. Which was fine, but now Myrnin had tracked him down he really didn't want to just spend it with getting informed Nico was caught up in something serious and didn't have time. His shoulders relaxed as Nico said he hadn't been doing much of anything. "Good, good." The swift changing in subject and the continued skipping around just showed how excited he was. But he was slow answering about the hat. "They have one in Morganville. But many of my hats are my own. And very old. Not all of them fit in my suitcase, however. And I am stuck with this one that slips. Do you want it?" He took the hard hat off his head - it was a bit large for him - and held it out to Nico as if the demigod would possibly want his castoffs. He now asked the very awkward question, while looking around as if he wasn't sure how to ask: "Want to go do something? Please? If you're not doing anything? Didn't want to interrupt any saving the world or demigod things." His green eyes turned back to Nico and his eyebrows rose.

Nico was quite honestly both amused and shocked by the variety of things Myrnin had to say. He certainly hadn't expected to see him in his world ever, though he had harbored the hope that maybe it was the same world and that meeting outside the House would be a possibility... "If you were planning on finding a demigod and asking after me, you probably would have been attacked. You're definitely not mortal..." he paused for a second, evaluating. "Actually, I'm not sure if anyone but me or Hazel would know that. But demigods don't trust easily. It's lucky you found me first instead of someone else." He had no doubts about Myrnin's ability to fight off a demigod, but he did doubt whether Myrnin would be willing to hurt someone he'd just met who attacked him based off of a misunderstanding. "And yeah, I'm pretty sure the gods know you exist to some capacity. Not sure they really care all that much about the things they don't control though." He shrugged. He was about to move forwards and take a seat besides Myrnin, but he hesitated at the fast food comment, uncertain if Myrnin was joking or not. And yes, it did seem like he was joking, which was more or less a relief to Nico. "McDonald's is the best. Okay, it's probably not actually, but... the dead seem to like it. And I like it. Happy Meal toys are some of life's greatest gifts." He blushed as he realized how much he was revealing with this observation. He hadn't really told anyone that he did enjoy them. He'd basically lived on McDonalds for a year or so... when he could get the money. It had been better than finding food elsewhere. "Wait... did you just offer me your hat?" Nico inquired, raising his eyebrow. "I doubt my head is larger than yours, though I appreciate the offer..." he took the hat nonetheless, setting it on his head and letting it engulf half his forehead. "What do you think? Is it a good look?" he flashed an uncharacteristic grin. The smile faded as he heard the rest of what Myrnin was saying. "No," he murmured, taking the hat off. "Nothing too important right now. You're not interrupting. I... yeah. I'd like to do something, if you came all this way."

There were several long moments where Myrnin considered the thought of demigods attacking him. The biggest problem, he thought, was they might get hurt. He wasn't too worried about himself ... well ... unless one of them was able to do something with fire. That was possible, right? There was a Greek god of fire. Yeah, he might want to start making a list of gods he didn't want to meet if he was going to be in New York for any length of time. 1. God of Fire 2. God of Lightning Now the mental list was completed, Myrnin tuned back into his surroundings in time to hear that maybe demigods wouldn't attack him. Maybe because he looked human. "Slightly more hopeful," he said. "But I agree with you." He supposed it would have been worse if he'd run into a demigod he 'knew'. Hazel, Annabeth, Percy. He might have said their names without thinking about it. It would have been ... awkward. "They have toys?" said Myrnin sharply, looking at Nico. "That's great!" He seemed to mean it. "Lovely invention! Why do eateries in Morganville not have this? I might have to complain." He trailed off a little, considering. Then he waved the subject away, focusing instead on the hat Nico had just put on. Curiously, he eyed the demigod, looking him up and down as if analyzing him for a deeper understanding of the outfit. Reaching out, he unbent one of the feathers which was pasted to the hat and then he seemed satisfied. "Yes! Very good!" Again, he seemed very serious. "Though it might hinder your vision a little," he added, unsurprised when Nico took it off. His face twisted a little, just a bit concerned, as Nico's smile dropped. "If you are sure," he said. He didn't want to impose. Carefully, he clapped his hands together. "What would you like to do? I am unfamiliar with the area, so I can not suggest anything. Is there any place you like to go?" He was fine with anywhere. Myrnin would have gotten excited over watching paint dry if Nico went along with it. He was a very good friend - Myrnin really loved hanging out with him. He did, if fact, know one thing about New York. He knew how to get back to the hotel. This was all. He could pretend he was lost too ... well ... he said 'pretend'. He might actually be lost.

Nico frowned for a moment, analyzing Myrnin carefully. "Hang on... I'm not actually certain many of them would be able to attack you." It would be an interesting theory. "If we find any other demigods I might have to ask you if you don't mind being... well, ever so slightly stabbed. Not even stabbed, but like..." he let his hand rest on the hilt of his sword. "My sword works on mortals and demigods and monsters alike. I sort of wonder if you count as something Greek or Roman to other people's weapons.. I mean the kind that don't work on mortals or unrelated things." He shrugged. "Maybe there's a better way to find out than stabbing you." "Wait, Myrnin!" Nico laughed, the sound floating freely into the air. It was seemingly out of character for him - something reserved only for Myrnin and the very closest of his friends. Something he would not have felt free to do in the House. Or too far in his past. "They really only offer toys to kids. And no offense, you don't really look like a kid anymore. I still look like a stunted ten year old, so..." he snorted softly. "You want a Happy Meal with a toy, I can get you one." Okay so maybe his description was rather off. He hadn't grown since he was ten, true, but he must have looked like an extremely murderous ten year old. It took away the intimidation factor slightly - something which, although he would never admit that he relied on it, Nico found a lot of his reputation hanging off of. "We could go to McDonald's to begin," Nico shrugged. He didn't really have any ideas. "Nobody at camp is gonna miss me for a little while, though Will might start to wonder whether I'm okay... he tends to worry too much, but..." the demigod blushed as he realized he was rambling about Will. "Really anywhere. I could show you some of the sights but I'm really not the best tour guide. My opinion of the city is a little biased..." he paused. "I could take you into the Labyrinth or into Camp or... underground into the Underworld if you really wanted, but I'm not sure you'd get on great with my father or Persephone... although you really would like Mrs. O'Leary..."

"It would rather depend," Myrnin mused. "How do Greek and Roman monsters respond to getting stabbed? I would be slightly concerned if the wound - if I were to gain one - does not heal. But otherwise I might not see the harm. It has happened to me before." He sighed. "You almost get used to it when you get to be my age." His age of a two-thousand and something. "Vampires existed in all or almost all cultures. I am unsure if I would be counted as a monster from your sense of one." But being his curious self ... well ... he was curious! "Though convincing someone to stab me might take some doing. Though I could go," his fangs snapped out and eyes turned red for a small second before his face returned to something which would pass for normal, "Around them. That would probably do it ..." He pouted a bit when he found out about the Happy Meals. Nico was right. There was no chance Myrnin would pass for a kid - he wouldn't even pass for a teen. He was securely, physically twenty-five and there was no chance this would be faked. "Could always do somethin' different in Morganville. Offer it to me and such," he said out of the side of his mouth, though his voice no longer held up much hope. He perked up a bit at the offer of possibly getting him one, anyhow. "You," he added, just in case it was something which bugged Nico. "Do not look like a stunted ten year old to me. You look like Nico. Anyway ... there are several vampires within Morganville who are such at a younger age then ten. I have long ago stopped noticing." He had. Others hadn't. He puzzled over the suggestion of McDonald's and liked it, so he nodded his head twice. Then he chuckled a little at the mention of Will and added, glancing skyward, "This sounds familiar when applied to myself. Wait ... Claire said something different. I don't believe it is proper English, but don't humans say 'same' when they wish to state something in their life relates to another. Ah ... never mind." He blinked and returned his attention to Nico. He seemed a bit surprised at the afterward suggestions. Surprised, but suddenly he looked about as excited as a child just offered a trip to Disneyland, Legoland, or a zoo of his choosing and now he was having a very hard time picking one. "You'd really show me one of those places?" he asked, like he wanted to see if the offer would be jerked away. "Am I allowed?" He riffled back through the choices in his head, because he loved those choices. "Isn't the Labyrinth a very large maze which housed the Minotaur? And it was built by a man who was very smart? I do not know much more than that." Mazes equaled puzzles. Myrnin liked puzzles.

"Depends on where you stab them. And what they are. Demigods bleed normally, gods bleed golden ichor, and if your attack is good enough, most monsters simply turn to dust. I wouldn't let anyone stab you to the point of turning to dust though. And I don't think you would, because I'm not sure where you would even go. Monsters turn to dust and are taken to... well." The stumbling in Nico's words showed that he wasn't really over what caused him trouble in the time when Myrnin knew him. Just on a long road to recovery. "They go there to reform. All due respect, I think if you reformed every time you died you would have told me by now." He attempted to cover up his shaky voice with a small smile, but it was clear it wasn't really working. He took a deep breath, grateful that the conversation had a natural turning point. "I wouldn't ask anyone at Camp to stab you. That would be pointless and they wouldn't want to, even if it were an experiment. And if you did... well, that... they might be more inclined to stab you with actual malice and I'm not sure you want angry demigods on your tail. We can be pretty... well, merciless when threatened. And we're used to being on edge." He shrugged again, looking up at Myrnin. "I'm not sure if looking like 'Nico' is much of an improvement over a stunted ten year old," he joked, though it wasn't clear if the comment was more serious than that or not. He didn't really like talking about himself... a way to deflect it, maybe? Either way, when he looked back at Myrnin his expression was unbothered. "Allowed?" he repeated. "Of course you're allowed! I mean some places are more dangerous than others, to be sure, but why wouldn't you be allowed? Daedalus is gone, and I'm pretty sure the minotaur hasn't come back yet. There are all sorts of other nasty things that live down there, but they're no match for us." He puffed his chest out ever so slightly with pride. His first victory in the labyrinth had stayed with him a long time. "You ever shadow traveled with me before? I can't recall."

There was not a single time that Myrnin remembered a vampire return from the dead. And he'd never died, so he couldn't say the same. Part of that made him feel a little sad. It might have been easier if he did just reform if he died. But Nico was right. This didn't mean he wasn't curious. He'd have to see. "I would not threaten your friends," he reassured. "I have 'met' a few of them after all. I would rather make a good impression. But perhaps for another time." He rubbed his hands together, excited. Labyrinth. Sounded fun. And it was less likely to draw attention to himself. Whatever was down there probably wouldn't care if he was wearing what he was wearing. "I'm used to danger," he admitted. "Practically daily. Though I suppose it's my own fault. I tend to attract it." Or search it out. It all had a use in the future! It protected Morganville or got him something he needed. Still ... it was always curiosity which got him to move. "Not a match at all! I'm very good at being better than monsters." He said with a grin. "Do I get a sword too?" He wasn't serious about that. He didn't need one. He doubted anything down in this maze would have seen something like him before. And he liked disarming traps. He considered Nico's question, thinking back. Then he shook his head. "No. I don't think it has ever come up." He bounded around on his heels, hands behind his back. "How do we do it? We're already in shadows." Which was very true, otherwise he would have had to take the hard hat back. Carefully, he slipped his shoes back on, since they'd still been lying around. He'd probably need them. Then he looked back at Nico, arms wide in a 'ta da' movement. "Ready as I'll ever be!"

"You'll have no trouble, I think, as long as you're yourself and you don't say anything too.. aggressive, is maybe the word. I'll have to warn Hazel about you before you meet her. She... well, she's like me. She'll be able to tell you're not quite alive." Nico brushed himself off and looked back in Myrnin's direction. He almost laughed as he thought about what his friends would think of this... well, this stranger that he was going to bring to them eventually. He and Myrnin didn't seem like the kind of people who would be friends. Yet they knew each other well enough that they had no choice whether or not to be friends at that point. Nico wouldn't have survived this long without the vampire. "Let's hope you don't attract any more danger than I do," Nico responded calmly. "If you do then we'll deal with it, but it would be unfortunate to turn a tour into something more unpleasant." He shrugged, raising his eyebrows until he realized that Myrnin was kidding about the sword bit. "Pretty sure you can do more damage than I can with my sword. Powers excluded, though." They were about evenly matched when it came to a fight. But brute strength and attacking capability? He may not have looked it, but Myrnin was capable. "Shadow traveling feels awful for people who haven't done it before," Nico warned before grabbing Myrnin's hand in a confident fashion he would have been terrified to do even months ago. He was getting better, but he still winced as he felt his hand touch Myrnin's. Recovery was a slow thing. "Might make you nauseous or... well, I've even had people pass out but... here we go." He closed his eyes and the shadows consumed them, tearing them into bits of shadow themselves until, less than a second later, they were underground.

Yes, Myrnin had stuck his foot in it before when it came to introductions. Being himself was one thing - trying to hard to be himself just wound up with him acting unusually manic or moody. Myrnin wasn't aware of this, however, so had no way to prepare. Come what may, he was likely to step on somebody's toes. But that wasn't now. Now, he had something else in his future and he was looking forward to it. Which was a turn of events he hadn't been expecting. Myrnin wasn't much more comfortable with Nico's contact than Nico was. But it was for different reasons. His had nothing to do with recovery and more to do with the fact it was how he had, for as far back as he could remember, always been. It took a mental acknowledgement before he could brush away the sensation of his palm itching. His head tilted ever so slightly at the disclaimer shadow traveling received. Then his lips parted a little to add some more grin to his grin. "I'm sure I'll be fine." In fact, he was not fine. The statement had only been bravado anyway. The room swam in front of Myrnin's eyes for a second and he did feel nauseous. Not something he cared to continue feeling. He hadn't felt like that in years. Abruptly, he let go of Nico's hand and sat down until the walls settled into a non-spinning position. "You ..." he hesitated as he made sure he was not going to loose his last meal or, as Nico had suggested, faint (something vampires weren't really capable of, but they didn't get motion sickness either, so this was a rare experience all around). "You were not joking," he finished, shaking his head as if it would make everything better. Surprisingly enough, it did settle things just a little. Carefully, Myrnin got to his feet, finally noticing the lack of the low-key pain from the sun. Underground. He looked around, noting the walls and ceiling and surroundings. "Not my favorite mode of transportation, but it's been ages since I've felt that bad after something." He rounded on Nico, bouncing. "Can we do it again?" He paused before bouncing again, turning around to look behind him at where the tunnel disappeared into the distance. "Anything living down here?" he questioned. "I mean ... there are these faint scents everywhere." His eyes were reflecting, ever so slightly, like chips of mirrors. Clearly, the underground area didn't have the best lighting. Which just meant Myrnin was all the more in his element. He rubbed his hands together again. "So ... just looking around or is there some end or middle we get to reach? Because I wouldn't mind beating mazes." He arched an eyebrow in Nico's direction, clearly saying 'your territory, mate. you make the rules'. Though the day Myrnin followed those rules would be a very special day indeed.

It had been a long time since Nico had shadow traveled with anyone, and it was quite a bit harder than he remembered. He was out of practice. He snuck a cursory look at his hand, but it all seemed to be intact. No fading or dissolving into shadows, at least not yet. Though he could use a breather. Thankfully, he got that in the form of Myrnin needed to sit down. "Take a deep breath. It usually helps the nausea," he advised. "If we do it more, you'll get used to it eventually." Reyna and Coach Hedge had, but it had taken them at least half a dozen trips to stop feeling so awful after them. It had always been Nico who had been on the edge of breaking apart then. Transporting himself at that time had been difficult enough, but himself, two people, and a fifty foot statue had been enough to tear him to pieces and nearly cause him to cease from existence. "It took some getting used to," he admitted with a sort of ambivalent shrug. "It's sort of the only way I can imagine getting around now. It's a lot quicker than a plane or a train or gods forbid a boat or flying somewhere... we all have our things that are easier for us to deal with, and mine is shadow travel." No threats of being killed and struck down by another god if he traveled within his father's realm. "Let's take a bit before we do it again," he laughed, wheezing a bit before he caught his breath and caught control over himself. "I'm sure something's alive down here. There are tunnels extending all the way across the United States. Space seems to sort of bend here. I can normally track where I am based on geographic monuments and feelings, but everything shifts down here, while you're in it. If we're lucky we can find Daedalus' laboratory. There are these wings there that he fashioned for Icarus, before he'd found the final design. There are more, ones that he made after because he pretended he could fix the accident..." Nico frowned at the thought. It was sad, to think of Daedalus' life in terms as horrifically simple as those. "There are millions of things to find in the Labyrinth. It all depends what you're looking for."

"'Take a deep breath,'" repeated Myrnin, chuckling a little. "Whoops. Breathing at all might help, you're right." He started breathing between the breaths he took in to speak. It broke up the traditional stillness which seemed to center around him. It made him, if possibly, more human. But it was equally clear he was out of the habit, since he forgot to regulate the breaths. Some where too fast and others with lengthy pauses between them. When Nico explained about getting used to shadow traveling, Myrnin nodded along. He related. He couldn't imagine not having blurring in his repertoire of skills. Though he knew he tended to do so when he wasn't paying attention, which meant he had to wait for people to catch up. He tapped at a wall while Nico explained about the odd web of tunnels which was the Labyrinth. "I wonder if any of these connect up with Morganville's tunnel system," he said once the demigod was done. It was fascinating to think over such things. Pity it was the wall which was getting to see the light dance in his eyes. Still, it was pretty clear Myrnin would be enchanted with anything new Nico introduced him to. "Daedalus," he murmured. Flickering memories and half remembered stories fitted into a puzzle within his head. He closed his eyes for a second, remembering the sad story. Yes. Yes, he knew the name. An inventor. One which might have only been a little less crazy than Myrnin was. "Sounds like a destination to try for," he stated to Nico as he turned and opened his eyes, finally revealing those 'I was just given a Christmas present' lights within them. "I'm not looking for anything really." Several things he was looking for kicked around in the back of his head, but he ignored them. "So lets see what we can find." With his arms, he made an X in front of his face, then pointed in both possible directions the tunnels were going. "Eeny, meeny, miny, moe," he said, ending up, from where he was standing, the path to his right. He twisted to face it. "This way work for you, Nico?" he asked over his shoulder, beginning to tip-toe walk along in that direction.

"It's entirely possible," Nico murmured to Myrnin, trying to create a mental map of the Labyrinth. They were still in New York, right where they had entered. In a few steps, they easily could have been right underneath Morganville. "Has anyone ever gotten lost in the tunnels under Morganville?" he questioned. If someone had gotten lost, it was entirely likely that the tunnels Myrnin had mentioned met up with the Labyrinth. It was possible that the tunnels were just a part of it that was open to mortals, unlike most of the rest of it. Nico shuttered to think what would happen if a mortal found their way down here. They would die very, very quickly. He shut the thought out and moved towards happier thoughts, specifically to what Myrnin was talking about in the moment. "If you're not looking for anything, finding something interesting shouldn't be too hard. The Labyrinth likes to get inside people's minds. It can try to draw you anywhere it wants within its tunnels. That's why so many people died in the Labyrinth in the history of the place. He took a few steps before looking back to see what Myrnin was doing. To his surprise, it was the thing he used to do when he was very very young to make decisions. "Works for me," he confirmed. It seemed like a good idea anyway to go... well, somewhere other than where they had come from. "I'll let you know if there's anything living here that you can't sense. Monsters and such... I don't think you'd be much help in that, at least many of the ones we encounter. Our goal is to try to stay out of the way of anyone or anything we find around. It'll be easier if we're talking while we're walking!" He started uncertainly down the direction Myrnin had chosen. He knew he could always shadow travel them to safety, but he was rather nervous about getting lost down here. He got a sense of the infinite and ephemeral once again, a firm reminder. Of the point.

"Oooooh yes," Myrnin confirmed. "They stretch all over Morganville. It would hardly be surprised if someone has gotten lost. Though if they never turned up, we'd just assume they fell into a trap." He said it dismissively, then realized his flippant dismissal probably would be read wrongly. "We were not always so patient at keeping track of our own, much less the humans." At least the humans had really gone down there. That wasn't particularly happy, however. He skipped a bit along the tunnel, but kept Nico within his field of attention. It wouldn't be a good idea to loose the demigod in an unfamiliar place. Staying out of the way of others was all well and good. But Myrnin already had a daunting feeling it wasn't likely. Monsters he couldn't sense was also ... oddly unnerving. Could he not smell them, like he would a human or even a vampire? Or perhaps hear them? Or was Nico just better at sensing them than he was? He didn't know and he didn't ask. He supposed he'd find out. So far, there weren't any offshoots to this passage, though Myrnin was waiting for one. And traps. He was waiting for traps too. If you watched a tunnel for traps, would they ever turn up? Or was it like watching a pot of water on a stove and it would never boil? "Has your camp been doing well?" he finally asked, prodding a bit of a wall in passing. Part of the brickwork crumbled a little at the pressure. Maybe he'd put a little too much strength behind it. Or maybe the wall was just made flimsy. "And is this going to be like Indian Jones?" Claire would have been impressed he knew who that was, much less the style. "Rolling boulders from the tunnel ahead and a lot of running? I'm used to running."

"Well if they fell into a trap it's entirely possible it wasn't a trap of mortal making... or... I'm not sure where vampires fall on the scale of mortal to immortal to monster, considering you have no Greek affiliation. But either way, it's possible they fell into a trap of Daedalus' making. Or the trap of some more sinister being's making." He knew the implications of what Myrnin was saying, but he knew it wasn't out of malevolence. If they didn't keep track of everyone who could fall into the tunnels... well, how was that different from never knowing about the dozens of demigods who died because they didn't quite make it to Camp Halfblood because nobody ever left to help them? Nico did a fairly decent job of keeping up with Myrnin as he skipped - it was rather fun to be here with a close friend, not having to worry about his opinion, or worry about any bad memories that had occurred within the walls of the Labyrinth. It was nice not to remember the choice he'd had to make here. It was nice, knowing that Myrnin knew everything that had happened to him here. He knew about Minos... about the worse parts of Nico's life. It was a relief to share the Labyrinth with the vampire now - of his own volition and always knowing a way out - and having someone to defend him. "We've... well, we've had quite a bit of excitement lately. Not too long ago Apollo was turned human and sent down to Earth and he had some major prophecy about himself, which didn't please him nearly as much as he thought having ourselves in prophecies would please us. He learned it's not too pleasant. But the world didn't end, so there's that." He chuckled then fell silent to hear Myrnin's question. "I'm not sure we'd ever need to roll boulders in front of us, but if there's something down here then we may have to run. Or I could get us somewhere else through shadow travel but we probably both want to be able to fight if there is something dangerous.

"I nearly died from a trap like that," Myrnin admitted. "Very deep pit. Floor caved in. Ada was having a bit of trouble and wanted ..." He shook his head, realizing the whole explanation wasn't going to make any sense to Nico. Anyway ... he found he didn't want to explain either. Not the finer points, anyway. "Anyway," he said lightly. "That was the literal pitfall I knew of. There were a couple others of my own making. To keep saboteurs away from the computer which runs Morganville. Some of Klaus' might be around as well. A bomb here or there ..." He hadn't made many attempts to find them, since those would probably kill him. He glanced back at Nico, eyebrow rising. The excitement about being in this new place, with someone who didn't mind the over-eager excitement which followed him around, was refreshing. Despite the fact it was unfamiliar and possibly had things which he'd never run into before, he felt confident. "Apollo? That's the god of flip-flops, right?" The association of how he got to that went like this. Flip-flops were for the outdoors. And the sun. Therefor, the god of the sun equaled the god of flip-flops. "Becoming a human after being an immortal isn't exactly easy," he mused more to himself, eyes going distant for a second. Nico knew about Fallon, at least. About how some vampires had been forced back into humanity. So maybe he wouldn't judge Myrnin for being a bit sympathetic to Apollo. The expression broke off as they came to a fork in the tunnel, finally. Well, a fork being three paths in varying directions. "You said you can travel a long way down here?" Myrnin asked. "So, like, I could end up in ... Kansas if I dug straight up?" He pointed skywards ... and looked like he actually wanted to try what he was suggesting. "Or is it magic and I wouldn't be able to?"

"Well we'll do our best to avoid either of us nearly dying this time around. I'll be able to tell you if the floor's about to cave in. A lot of the walls I can't feel, but I can feel what's underneath the Labyrinth. It's not too difficult to tell when to expect cave ins if I can look for the signs before we get anywhere near to where it's going to cave in." Nico shrugged. "There are other traps I can't really check for, but I doubt any traps down here would be the kind you're describing. It's more the fact that the walls change and there's really not much of a way out unless you know the maze by heart." He knew there were people who could navigate the place easily, and although it was easier for him than a lot of people... he still was grateful to be able to mostly sense the dangerous and get them out of there quickly. "Flip flops?" Nico was surprised by the description. He'd heard of a lot of gods being called less than kind things, but flip flops seemed genuine and also new. "Don't give him any ideas," he replied, rolling his eyes affectionately. "He might actually start wearing them." He grew more somber as Myrnin said something else that hit a chord in Nico. "I... I know. It wasn't easy for him, especially having a god's memories in a human brain. And he's quite a bit more tolerable now, after feeling what it was like to be used as a pawn in the Gods' cruel games. But they're better than any alternative." he shook his head. Nico surveyed the three routes, unease stirring in him as he looked down one of them. He'd prefer not to take that one, but if Myrnin chose... well. "Hm? Well... you could, but there are proper exits elsewhere. You wouldn't want to risk a mortal falling in or the entire ceiling caving in, and it's not built the best it could be right here."

"He doesn't wear them already?" Myrnin asked, agape. "Isn't that ... some godly crime against fashion? T-shirt? Sunhat? Sunglasses? Flip-flops? It would fit my image of a god of the sun, anyway." He looked like he wanted to give Apollo ideas. The vampire was genuinely affronted. The ideas of centuries within a single head. You either forgot good chunks of it or went mad. The memory capacity might be large - maybe even infinite - but it was still a lot to expect it to remember things seen as a god. Was it different? Myrnin wondered. He knew vampire to human and visa versa was. Different, but going one way was easier than another. "At least he got some perspective," he murmured, eyes returning from the ceiling of the maze. He didn't want to doom some human to fall down here. It would not be good. Nope. Nope. But could they dig down here? the vampire wondered. So he looked at the routes laid out before them and then said ... of course it was complete luck, but this was a man who had fairly bad luck ... "This one looks nice." And then he started to walk down the exact fork Nico hadn't wanted to walk down. "Maybe we can aim to hit Kansas too," he joked to Nico as he looked over his shoulder.

"Apollo in general is a crime against fashion," Nico replied with a smirk. "I'm lucky his son didn't inherit the curse," he added, cheeks coloring a bit as he realized what he had said. "Sorry Lord Apollo," he called upwards, "But it's true," he added to Myrnin, much more quietly. "I'm sure if we meet him you can take it up with him personally." He frowned as he realized what he said. Apollo liked looking as shiny and well-lit as the sun. He doubted that would go over well with Myrnin's whole... creature of the night thing. Putting Myrnin in danger in order to let him give fashion advice to a god was... well, not at the top of Nico's to-do list. Though he wouldn't put it past the vampire to try to do it anyway. His eyes widened as Myrnin chose the passage that Nico had most vehemently wanted to avoid. He would let Myrnin choose, though. They could protect himself, but there was something in the back of Nico's mind that was screaming at him and telling him that this was a very, very bad idea. Something that told him that the route was too familiar, but he pushed it back. He was sure it was fine, it was just the old paranoia. The feeling of Minos always watching him, even when he chose not to be seen. The thought brought a sick feeling to Nico's stomach. "Let's try for Kansas," he agreed quietly, trying not to betray his anxiety.

(I said tomorrow. School said two days from now. )
"I've had that said to me before," Myrnin admitted. "'Crime against fashion'. I wonder if we'd get along." He rubbed at his chin, puzzled to some extent or at least as much as Myrnin could be. He glanced over at Nico as he corrected the sky and then also looked up, as if he was trying to see Apollo through the dirt ceiling. He waved a hand halfheartedly, almost expecting a lightning bolt. But that was a bit more Zeus' style. The fact Apollo was god of the sun completely escaped Myrnin as he brightened, no pun intended, at the thought of meeting a god. "Do you think that's likely? Running into him, I mean?" The thought and general fact Myrnin was still excited that Nico was here - like a dream had suddenly made its way into the waking word - that he didn't notice Nico's nervousness in his heart. He proceeded down the tunnel, still rambling on about possible clothing suggestions for the sun god ("Perhaps he'd like a light green tie. You know, with the soft fabric and slightly eye-catching patterns?"), so it took him a little longer than usual. When he did finally notice, looking back with a puzzled expression, Nico had already calmed himself down enough that it was Myrnin who thought he was imagining things. Still, he waved a hand in the direction they were going, eyebrow hiking up just a little. "Hum - oh never mind ... How is Camp Half-Blood these days? I'm assuming they have replaced the coffins in your cabin with actual beds by now? If not, I can come by and advise that even the undead do not enjoy these sorts of arrangements." He gave a toothy grin.

"It's entirely possible," Nico replied. "Apollo likes to think he gets along with everyone, but I wouldn't be surprised if you hit it off. But I would advise you against hitching a ride in his sun chariot. He... well, he wouldn't really be doing you any favors there, and I wouldn't want to lose you just because you decided to be friends with a god who embodies one of the few things that can actually kill you." Not that he thought Myrnin would actually do that, but sometimes it was better to be safe than sorry. Keeping talking was a good way to avoid the way his heart was beating in his chest. The familiar feeling of the passage they were in. He could hear Minos' voice pressing in at the back of his skull even though he knew the king was gone... he'd seen him in the Fields of Punishment. He wasn't here anymore... "Oh... Camp Half-Blood is fine. The coffins are still a thing, and they aren't exactly comfortable, but it's better than nothing. I've had a few guests in the cabin lately. Hazel stays there whenever she visits Camp, as does Reyna. It's... well, it's a lot less dreary when some of the Camp Jupiter kids are visiting. And Solace is trying to get someone to agree to change the coffins. He wants me to add a bit more light to the cabin, but... well..." a smile tugged at the corner of Nico's lips. "He only has me to convince. I like the dark." He didn't like the dark that seemed to be pressing around them, or the feelings flooding through him as he earth under their feet grew more familiar. Yet he wasn't going to ask Myrnin to turn back. They'd have to anyway, in a few hundred feet. There was a dead end there, though Nico wasn't aware of it yet. A dead end he'd created just over two and a half years before.

"Fair warning taken!" assured Myrnin. He was rash, but he wasn't stupid. He might last standing out in direct sunlight with only mild discomfort for a while but that didn't mean he was going to stand near what might as well be the sun. Or was the sun. How'd that work anyway? Sun, sun chariot where they the same thing? Or was there some bits of information there which he didn't have yet? The pounding in Nico's chest, nervousness and growing fear caused Myrnin to pause again. Was the demigod picking up on something he wasn't? Wouldn't he have said if he had? Hesitantly, he picked up the rest of the conversation, but not without moving a bit slower forward. "Oh yes ... Heh heh ... I'm a bit less Hollywood-esque than most other vampires but a couple of times popping out of one and cackling might convince someone?" He sounded vaguely hopeful. He would have sounded more convincing had it not been the fact that Nico's heartbeat was pounding in his ears. It had jerked just a bit at the mention of the dark. A lie? Myrnin wasn't sure one way or the other, but he patted at his pockets until he pulled out a pack of glowsticks. Ignoring logic, he cracked the whole set before even opening the bag. With deft fingers he started putting all the ends together in different sets until his wrists were encircled by at least three bracelets a piece, a necklace around his neck, and one tying back his hair. His whole face was lit up by that point and he looked back at Nico and held up some of the spares. "What some?" He tapped them against his chin, before adding, "Or is there something else I'm not noticing which should be worrying me?"
