OH MY GOSH!! I love this. Your artwork is so expressive and colorful with this wonderful mashup of realistic backgrounds (beautiful btw) and cartoonish characters. (especially love our MC, THEY ARE SO RELATEABLE) Do you post artwork anywhere else? I would love to follow/support you if you are on another forum or social site!! And here is my command entry: Follow your gut. This guy is being aggressive, and Silverleaf wasn't doing anything morally great anyways. Take a deep breath and try to calm the situation by appeasing to the WindClan deputy and suggesting to Silverleaf that they find the herb elsewhere. And if Silverleaf refuses, remind him that this is the deputy of WindClan. There could be serious repercussions for ThunderClan if a fight breaks out! FDKHFGJDKJ thank you !!!!!! i'm honestly so flattered i dont even know what to say ahhhhhh :'))) i don't have any other dedicated platform for my art, but honestly the art i normally draw is wildly different from what i post here. i don't usually draw cats or animals in general (i draw the cats for this as cartoony as possible because if i tried for realism theyd look like abominations lmfao)
but thank u for your interest!! i remember you from the old forums! i used to read your fanfic curse way back when. i'll have to sit down and read it again one of these days! i remember being crazy about it 😍 also super glad that swiftleap hasn't annoyed the readers yet by being so useless most of the time, haha. i notice protagonists like these aren't usually well liked but i love weak willed and panicky main characters so much.

Well, please let me know if you do begin to post your art anywhere else because I will want to follow! I love this style because you have such a wide range of detail and it never feels awkward when you switch to a different style for the characters. It honestly reminds me of when I watch anime when the characters have comedic moments. The animators do a very similar thing where they zoom in on the face and the expression is exaggerated. Its comedic gold for me!
If you ever want extra practice or a new project to work on, I'm always keeping my eye out for artists to help bring my stories to life. I've given up on a Curse graphic novel due to how ridiculously long the story is, but right now I'm looking for someone to help with a short story that I am writing. I would love to do something different and make it a visual experience!
Honestly I love this angle for Swift because it subverts the expectations of readers and aides to the comedic flavor you have going. It also kind of makes the reader frustrated (which is understandable), but excited for the moments when Swift learns something new and uses it. You got a great sense of story when it comes to character interaction. It's very natural and entertaining!
It's been a while sense I've enjoyed an interactive story, so thank you! This put a smile on my face (:

This put a smile on my face (: OOF you caught me... i'm... very much a weeb haha. i don't watch anime as much as i used to but even today it's still a big influence on how i draw. i always love expressive characters, which i couldnt help but feel would be limited if i went for a realistic approach for the art.
oh dang, a collab sounds like it'd be awesome!! if it's a short story, i might be able to scrape together some free time to help on it. hmu with a PM and we'll see what we can do!! i'm really excited for it!!

@specdetective - No shame in loving anime! I actively watch it. Right now I just finished CELLS AT WORK and the main character kind of reminds me of Swift (except swift is much more fragile and precious and I don't think of them as someone who CONSTANTLY finds themselves about to die lol) I love expressive characters too. I think the exaggeration is much better at making readers/watchers relate to cartoons/animations/comics/ect. There's just something about it that speaks to your inner thoughts and emotions that we are taught to suppress I think!

You quietly interject, telling Blackhawk that you don't want to fight. Unfortunately, you speak so quietly that he doesn't appear to hear you.

You clumsily push into Silverleaf to get face to face with Blackhawk. After instantaneously losing your courage you politely murmur "excuse me."
He stares down at you with cold eyes. "Apprentices shouldn't butt in while the adults are talking, Kitty."
You swallow thickly and clarify that you're a warrior.

There is a long silence.
"Are you serious?"

"... you're a warrior?"
You confirm this with a shaky nod.

Blackhawk bursts out into laughter. In retrospect, trying to hide in your medicine cat's fur at the first sight of an enemy isn't the most warrior-like behavior.

Yeah, you are thoroughly humiliated right now.
"Thunderclan made YOU a warrior!?"
You dip your head, unable to say anything. Silverleaf looks like he's ready to tear Blackhawk's ear off but you look at him pleadingly.
You tell Blackhawk that this isn't worth a fight and if you two can't have the herbs you'll just leave.

Blackhawk's laughter finally dies down to snickering. "No, no, you're right kitty. I'd feel bad about attacking a cat who only just left the nursery."
Your tail lashes at the ground but you say nothing.
"Consider this a friendly warning, Silverleaf. You might be a medicine cat, but don't think that earns you the privilege of crossing any border and taking as you please."

"The next time you get the bright idea to take advantage of Windclan, you'll go through me first." He walks back over to the tall grass. "You too, Kitty. I'll be happy to give you a tough looking scar that'll make you a proper warrior."

Blackhawk leaves and Silverleaf almost immediately brushes past you to head back to the border. It seems the both of you are walking away with bruised egos. Well, his might be bruised. You plain don't have any ego left in you.
The walk back to camp is very quiet, with neither you or Silverleaf saying anything to each other. You wonder to yourself if he might be angry at you for not fighting back. You want to hope that backing down was the best solution. You just want to protect Silverleaf and yourself.

in other news, the last panel of the newest update is the 100th panel ive drawn for this story
swiftleap is very happy about this
also it was stupidly difficult to try and find a GOOD glitter site. you know that popular one that let you put sunglasses and dancing snoop doggs on your image? if anyone remembers what that site is let me know and i'll give you my first born child.

I actually feel personally offended that Swiftleap is being treated like a kit. I think that it's really a case of Swiftleap not having a proper apprenticehood. I wanna give his former mentor a firm claw across the nose for not training Swiftleap right, and letting him be mocked by every single cat in the Clans! That same cat was his uncle, who probably trained and encouraged Swiftleap the best he could. Frankly it’s probably Swiftleap’s own desire to not act immediately alongside treatment from his peers. (So far, I’ve only assumed Flamestep to be Swiftleap’s age. And he’s always been a bully if he’s still acting like this as a warrior.) |

Oh my gosh I was laughing out loud at that update!! I love this interaction so much, but my heart is going out to Swiftleap. <3 They were so brave and they were rewarded with humiliation and now silence. As far as I see it, Swift saved Silver's tail! But I also understand Silver's anger. He needed those herbs. And if he can only get them from WindClan territory?? Shoot, that could be a huge problem. O.O'
I really loved how you pulled back to represent that silence between the character's when Swift told the deputy that they were a warrior. It's a great way to show that in the panels!!

You return to a quiet, peaceful camp. Most of the warriors are out on patrols or training, leaving mainly the elders, queens, and kits here to enjoy the nice weather. It's a calming environment. You hope that it can stay like this forever.
"Oh, thank goodness you're back!"

Oh, it's Stonestripe. She's the queen you helped out yesterday.
Silverleaf steps forward to greet her. "What do you need?"
"I need you to check on Owlkit. Something's wrong with her. I don't know what."
"Alright, take her to my den." Silverleaf turns to you. "Come with me."
Huh? Uh, okay.

You follow Silverleaf to his den. Not long after, Stonestripe walks in holding her daughter by the scruff. Her two sons, Crowkit and Ravenkit follow from between her legs.
"What seems to be the issue?" Silverleaf asks.
Stonestripe shakes her head weakly. "I'm not sure, I think something must be stuck in her ear... She has a hard time hearing lately."
"Has she been complaining about anything? Pain, lack of appetite, fatigue..."
"No. She's been eating well, playing with her brothers too. I don't know what could be the issue."

Silverleaf begins his examination by sniffing Owlkit's ears. She playfully bats at him, giggling.
You're not sure why you're here. You don't think he needs help with a kit, but you'll do whatever you can, you suppose.
"And you say she's been hard of hearing?" Silverleaf glances up at Stonestripe.
The queen nods fretfully. "Yes. I'm worried it'll get her into trouble--"

Suddenly, Silverleaf opens his mouth wide and shouts into Owlkit's ear.

Oof, your ears start to ring a little.
Stonestripe quickly pulls Owlkit away, looking at Silverleaf with an incredulous expression. "What are you trying to do!? You could've hurt her ears!!!"
Silverleaf just sits back with a neutral expression. "I don't think so. She doesn't look bothered at all."

True enough, Owlkit looks fine.
"Nothing's wrong with your daughter, Stonestripe. She's deaf."

A heavy silence falls onto the three of you while Crowkit and Ravenkit start shouting at Owlkit to get her attention. Abject horror slowly dawns across Stonestripe's features as Silverleaf's words sink in.
"That's..." she begins and shakes her head. "That's not possible... she talks to me and her brothers all the time...!"
"There's such a thing as reading lips. There's an elder in Shadowclan whose been deaf his whole life. As long as someone is facing him, he can understand what they're saying."
"No, but... can't you do anything!?"
"It's not something I can fix." He meets her gaze steadily. "She's strong, healthy and--"

"Stop," Stonestripe cuts him off. "What... what does this mean for her...? She can't be a warrior?"
Silverleaf takes a moment of pause to think this over but ultimately shrugs. "I don't know. That will be something for you and Galestar to discuss."
"Ah, wait, what about being your apprentice? She can do that at least, can't she?"
"Only if she wants to be. I can't force her to be my apprentice."

"But..." Stonestripe looks down at Owlkit, who struggles in her grasp.
"Mama," Owlkit mewls. "Leggo." Her voice is so loud and her words slur so heavily.

Stonestripe lets Owlkit go and the tiny kit runs out of the den with her brothers who still shout at her like it's a game.

Wordlessly, Stonestripe leaves the den too. Silverleaf doesn't attempt to stop her or comfort her. You can't help but think he's acting quite cold, but then again, you don't know what you could say in his place.
Once you're alone, you ask Silverleaf what will happen to Owlkit if she can't be a warrior and doesn't want to be his apprentice.
"Dunno. I suppose Galestar could send her to the Elder's den where she'll be safe."
Would she even get her warrior name?
"I don't know."

"Not everyone fits perfectly within the system of a clan. There's not much we can do with those who don't."

The word "system" sounds excruciatingly cold. Yet, how can you argue with it? What can a clan do with a cat that can't pull their own weight?
If someone as useless as you can barely function within the role given to you, how will someone like Owlkit fair?

"... I wanted to apologize," Silverleaf suddenly says. "For earlier. I shouldn't have lost my temper. If I had backed down sooner..."
He doesn't finish that sentence, but you can fill in the blanks easily enough.
"You didn't deserve to hear all of that crap."

Even so, it's hard to disagree with Blackhawk's view of you. You don't say anything, however, and the two of you sit in silence.

well it's time for me to die. UGH i wanted to get this update done a lot sooner, but between being busy with other stuff and plain not having the energy to draw, this update has been such a drag on me.
BUT, i am glad it's done. hopefully the next update will (be much goddamn smaller) be posted sooner! and i'll definitely make sure that the next one allows for reader commands.
thanks again for reading and also for leaving comments like you guys have been! it's always such a joy to see what other people are thinking about the story. it means a lot to me.

*Waits for the hawk to come and take Owlkit.* Anyway, my now running theme with kits aside. Actually that would be kinda nice, Swiftleap, save the child! Also Stonestripe, if you didn’t want Silverleaf to do his job, don’t come to him. Also why do none of her kits have her stripes? I had more commentary, I promise I did. Uh....... Owlkit will be medicine cat apprentice, only role for her. I would say give her to Swiftleap, but I don’t think Galestar would do that. And I think that’s it? Anyway, very nice update!  |

Oh my god I love that parallel you drew between Swiftleap and Owlkit. Not being fit to be a warrior can mean many things: a physical limitation, a lack of the proper temperament or mentality, or even simply not having the desire to be one. I like that you have some of the spectrum represented here.
I think it would be really cool to see swift and owl have their "limitations" become strengths as the story progresses. With Owlkit all of her other senses should be naturally heightened to compensate for her lack of hearing. The same could apply to swift, but how that translates into a strength benefiting the clan has yet to be seen.
I'm just so in awe of you are able to have effortless comedy combined with serious and thought provoking scenes like this one. It's fantastic!! (:
