"Yeah? Daddy has a guitar too, you know. One old fashioned one and one electric one." See, Katty? Mommy's not so cool. Daddy is cool too! He pointed to the spot on the wall where the guitars hung on pegs, near an obligatory Elvis Presley poster, even though Kaden wasn't a huge Elvis fan. The music was fine, but his voice was too...bouncy. Just be cool, dude. No need to wiggle the notes so much, just hold the pitch. Oh well.
"Did you want to play with one? Or the drums?" On second thought, maybe inviting a five-year-old to mess around with his expensive instruments wasn't such a great idea...but it was too late now.

Even while noticing Kaden's apprehensiveness, Katty's whole face lit up immediately at the thought of using the drums. She'd seen the guitars, but they all seemed pretty much the same. She could be wrong, but there was only so many differences she could note.
"I get to play?" She checked quickly, already preparing to jump from the piano bench.

That expression made Kaden smile. It was kind of the way June looked when she got to do something she had Beene wanting to do for a long time, like go to Disneyland or something. "Sure!" he signed without a second thought for the safety of his instruments. "But first, you're gonna need some drumsticks!" He got up and pulled a pair from a shelf and turned back to Katty. "Here you go!"

If possible, Katty's grin got even wider after being handed the sticks. This was gonna be awesome!!! Katty rushed up to the drum kit's box, taking the step up with a stick in each hand. "Now?" She signed, after placing both stick in one hand while signing with the other.

(I feel like I'm super under-qualified to be writing this scene, because I know nothing about drums! Oh well.)
Kaden laughed. "Go ahead. I bet Mommy will come to watch in a second, too." More like she'd probably run in wondering what was wrong and what all the racket was, but the look on her face would be fun. He wondered how Katty would sense the noise she would be making. Would she feel anything, like vibrations, or would she only be aware that she was being allowed to hit something for fun?

Ha! Same here. I'm fudging it.)
Katy sat on the stool, only slightly disappointed at not being able to use the foot pedal for the bass while still being able to reach the four cymbals. (I think there's four!) Why were people so big? Honestly, it made everything more difficult. Readjusting the sticks in her hands, she flipped them up and down a few times, feeling the weight. (Tapping one end to make the other go up.) She tapped lightly on the smallest drum, but quickly threw that idea out the window when she couldn't feel it. This second time, she whacked a little harder, grinning at the vibration in her chest and face.

(Ha! Well, as long as we're fudging it together! Lol.)
Kaden chuckled and leaned back against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest to watch Katty play. He would have encouraged her to keep going, but he was pretty sure that all of her attention was focused on the drums in front of her anyway.

Gah! I'm so sorry I never responded. I didn't see your post.)
It wasn't long until Katty had some sort of rhythm going, although she wasn't sure if it was any good. She liked it though. It seemed a lot easier than guitar at least...

(I wondered where you were! Ha ha.)
Not bad for a little kid, really! Not to mention a deaf little kid. "June! We may or may not have a new Beethoven on our hands!" he yelled out the doorway. He bobbed his head along with the rhythm to encourage Katty in her morning drumming endeavors. Well, this morning's drumming endeavors. Hopefully this wouldn't become a daily thing, at least not early in the morning.

June, of course, could hear absolutely nothing but the drums. At first she thought it was Kaden, but as far as she knew, he didn't use the drum kit much. It was mostly for the rest of his band. At least, that's the way it'd been before the band was started. Curious at this point, she put her stuff down to head upstairs, following the racket that slowly changed into a rhythm. "What's going on in here?" She asked Kaden, smirking at Katty 'rockin' out'.
I forgot to tell you I was going camping! I'm back now, though.)

Kaden laughed and held out an arm for her. "Katty is drumming!" He prided himself on his Mr. Obvious impressions sometimes. "Pretty good, right?"
(Camping huh? Did you have fun?!)

Eh. We had some girls in the troop that were not listening, not helping, and all around were annoying me. But, it was fun, and they'll learn. They're just babies at the moment, little eleven year olds. Some of them had never been camping before!)
June snickered. "I can see that! What are you gonna do when she breaks it?" She questioned. Katty was completely oblivious to the two talking, and it was actually kind of adorable to see her so zoned in to something.

(Ah. Well, eleven is a difficult age to handle sometimes. Ha ha. Ugh, I WISH I had never been camping. Ha ha. Not my thing. But I am glad you had fun!)
Kaden scoffed and pulled her against his side. "Please. I've had a ripped thirty-year-old guy pounding away on those things. Katty will be fine. Look at her," he said, his smile evident in his voice. He watched her play, almost frowning she was concentrating so hard. What a little cutie. How awesome would it be if she somehow got into music? They might have to reopen the cochlear discussion, but maybe with drums, that wouldn't be such a necessity. And maybe he was getting ahead of himself.

Cut into her child's brain? A brain surgery for a five year old? Kaden was nuts. (Heh-heh. Because you know, they have to disagree.) June rolled her eyes. "She's gonna poke a hole through one of the drums, then I'm gonna laugh while your friends blame you."
Katty finally saw her mom and stopped a moment, setting the stick in her lap. "Hi mommy!!! I can play drums."

Naturally.
Kaden laughed. "No she won't," he insisted. Gen grinned at Katty and then at June, pulling his arm back so gen could sign, "You did so good, Katty! Was that fun?"

Katty grinned, "Yup. Mommy, you play guitar?" She asked quickly, getting out of the *box thingy that surrounds the drum kit.*
"But weren't you having fun with the drums?" June backtracked. Dang it. She was hoping to get a picture of Katty 'in the zone'. Too late now.

Gosh. Kaden is so not good at paying attention today... ) "No, daddy! Guitar! Mommy plays guitar." She objected. Honestly, did Kaden know anything about mommy?

Katty scrunched her nose. Kaden was being weird... "Mommy, please?"
June sighed a bit. "Honestly, daddy is much better than me, Katty. He plays more often."
"Then you should play more than daddy, so you'll be better."

Kaden laughed. "Can't argue with the girl's logic, June dearest," he said. "Play! Please? Help me out, Katty. Please please please?"
(I'm sorry, Cherry. I realize I have been really sub-par lately, but I just really can't figure out the problem!)

Katty giggled, before grabbing one of the guitars that was on a floor stand, instead of hung on the wall. "Now play."
(It's cool. I haven't been especially detailed either.)

Kaden grinned, once again appreciating Katty's methods. He raised his eyebrows and watched June expectantly.

June raised her eye-brows. "Nothing to say?" She questioned. "You're the pop-tart, not me." She took the guitar from Katty, only because it was twice her height and she didn't want it to be dropped. She strummed the guitar, playing different notes to make up some sort of song on the spot. It was something Katty always seemed to like. Katty had settled down, sitting on the floor with her mom, one hand on the guitar.

Katty would sometimes adjust June's fingers, as routine, to make her start a new song. At first, when Katty was very young, June had tried to lose this habit, but now it was just what they did. As Katty moved her fingers from a A chord to a C, she started a new rhythm.

June shook her head. "This song debuted two seconds ago, and will end fairly quickly." She answered. "I make them up on the spot, because Katty wanted more music faster than I could memorize more songs."
