Sootpaw bounced excitedly before losing her balance and stumbling slightly. “I’m alright!” She stated, straightening herself quickly. She began to follow Owlpaw, “Hey Owlpaw, hows your training going?” The young she-cat asked at an attempt of making conversation.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
"It's...going?" he squinted thoughtfully as he continued on. Already, the scent of the pond reached his nose. It smelled a little stale - did it refresh the water with rainwater? That would make sense, if it was a leafbare-only drinking source. "I mean, I'm learning some stuff, but it's still early." he said, flicking his gaze briefly to his companion. "I've learned a few basics, but I'm not good at them yet."
Owlpaw shook his head. He had to admit - he was awful at the hunting crouch. He hoped he would get better with time - but that was exactly it. Time. The young tom was as impatient as ever; it was no wonder that cats barely believed that he and Cinderpaw were related. The older tom was much calmer and looked so much different. Owlpaw was not graceful nor was he tall, but he was glad of that, sometimes.
"How about yours?"

Sootpaw sighed slightly, “I’m not particularly fond of training, I typically just end up being an embarrassment to myself.” She admitted. “I’ve got the proper forms, it seems, and if I’m going slow and taking my time it’s fine. Putting everything together in real time is a tad more difficult...” she trailed off realizing she most likely wasn’t making much sense. “Basically, I can crouch when I hunt, and I can stalk my prey- but as soon as it becomes time to chase it, I end up tripping.” She laughed.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
"I know some cats can stalk right on top of their prey and pounce and get it without a chase," he mewed excitedly, pushing through the trees. The Frog Pond now lay ahead of him; and though it looked dark and a little intimidating, he liked the sounds. The loud calls of the frogs and the birds in the trees - the lilypads in the water. It looked nice, he had to admit. "Maybe you'll work better if you do that?" Owlpaw suggested, turning to look at Sootpaw. "I'm not really good at anything, but I'm hoping that I'll be able to get better. I want to be one of the best...somethings in the Clan," despite being unsure of what he wanted to be good at, he definitely seemed to be determined.

“I hadn’t thought to try that, honestly- I always assumed I’d be to loud for that.” She sighed, thinking for a moment. Then, listening to Owlpaw, she couldn’t help but grin, “I bet you’ll be the best at anything you try to be the best at! ...I could help you train if you want!” She mewed excitedly. She sniffed at the air for a moment, attempting to make sure there was nothing dangerous near by, she didn’t believe there was.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
He padded lightly towards the edge of the water and peered in. Definitely darker than he'd expected. There were rocks leading across the pond and, it seemed, the frogs seemed content to sit on there. They croaked at him lazily, and didn't move. Brave, he thought.
"That would be nice," the tom turned to look at the other apprentice, whiskers twitching as he did so. "I don't really know where to start, though," he admitted - a little sheepishly. "I'm not very good at the hunting crouch and I don't think I'm very good at fighting, either. I guess...I sort of need to learn the hunting crouch better, huh?"

Sootpaw got excited, “Oh! I can do that- Which means I can help!” She stated happily. She looked towards the sky for a moment and watched a few birds fly by before turning back to the tom, “If you show me how you crouch I can give you a few pointers.” She suggested, hoping to help.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
Knowing that Sootpaw help was a relief - though when he was told to show how he crouched, he felt a bout of self-consciousness. As a whole, Owlpaw wasn't a particularly insecure cat; he was the loud sort of tom who could ask weird questions to anyone in the Clan without a thought. That said - he supposed he was a little touchy about his skill (or lack thereof). Regardless, he slowly dropped into a crouch. His tail laid flat against the ground and so did his body, though he didn't seem to have his weight even on all paws. If anything, he was leaning rather heavily to one side.
"I think I've been getting slowly better, but I'm still prone to being, uh...loud?" he frowned a little.

The She-Cat thought for a moment, “Uhm- my mentor always tells me I’m leaning too much on one side and I think you may be doing the same thing.. to a degree.” She mewed, her tone supportive.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
He gave a low hum and adjusted his weight, though he didn't feel particularly balanced. His tail lashed back and forth in mild frustration as he tried to move his weight between one paw and the next - before he sat up and huffed, tail thumping against the somewhat damp ground. It was still hot here, he noted; but more humid than the rest of the territory. Maybe that was what was getting his brain all fuzzy.
"I'm not gonna lie," he said, "this is really frustrating to try to do. How do you even balance between your paws? That's so weird."
Little rant done, he dropped back into his crouch and, with some surprise, found that he'd spotted a lizard. A lizard! Here! His whiskers twitched and he prowled forward - but it darted off into the forest without so much as a second glance at him. A low huff passed his jaws and he turned to look back at Sootpaw, ears half-pinned. This adventure was fun, but he was still annoyed.
"I will never understand hunting," his words were rather blunt. "It's weird."

The she-cat giggled slightly watching her friend chase the lizard, once he turned back to her she promptly stopped. "I'll admit- Hunting is rather odd, you have to know where to place yourself according to the wind, you can't make ANY noise AND THEN even if you get all that right...you still have to manage to either be smarter than your prey...or outmaneuver it... In all honesty- I'd rather be better at hunting than fighting because hunting is more difficult," she admitted, unsheathing and resheathing her claws as she spoke. She stopped for a moment to admire the pond, and all of the creatures that called this place home. She found it to be rather relaxing here, and didn't quite grasp why Lilyshade had not yet brought her here. Sootpaw turned to Owlpaw, "Why is it considered dangerous here?" she asked.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
He was a little disheartened by losing the lizard - but he'd expected to lose it, so he simply listened. Owlpaw nodded along with the she-cat's words, standing up and looking around. The Frog Pond seemed to be coming more to life as the sky continued to darken; when he looked up, he could see the red and oranges bleeding into each-other. Was that a good sign? He'd heard something about the sky's colour meaning something - was red in the night a good thing? He thought it was.
"Dangerous," he repeated, having been in his own little world. He tilted his head to look at Sootpaw and considered it for a few moments, eyes narrowing thoughtfully. "Oh. Cinderpaw said that there are some dangerous snakes here - they have venom that could easily kill a cat. I think the water is way deeper than cats generally anticipate, too. He also said that when it's greenleaf, the water becomes thick and tends to pull cats down. Since we're just coming out of leafbare, though, it should be fine."
A cat could hope, at least. Owlpaw was only going from what he'd been told.

Sootpaw looked towards the water, which at the moment seemed peaceful and serene. She wondered how many cats had lost their lives here. Just the thought of it made her whiskers twitch anxiously. She watched as the frogs lazily hopped nearby, almost unbothered by the apprentice's presence. "Well, that explains why my mentor has yet to bring me here." she laughed nervously. "I can't remember, do any of the patrols pass by here?" she asked.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
Now that he was thinking about it, he found himself wondering if anything dramatic happened here. Had someone related to him died here? Had loners or rogues come here without knowing the dangers and lost their lives? He backed away from the water and instead turned his gaze to an owl hooting in the trees. It didn't seem to care about the duo of apprentices; if anything, it was more focused on the insects that had come out under the cover of night. He jumped a little as a frog hopped forward to catch a fly, and he shuddered. They eat insects? he thought, somewhat surprised.
"I'm not sure," the apprentice hummed. "I think the hunting patrol does, but the border patrol doesn't because they go to the borders, not here."
That made sense to him, at least. He wasn't sure where he was pulling this information from - perhaps he was just assuming. Either way, Owlpaw hoped that neither would approach; he doubted they'd hear a hunting patrol, considering how quiet the cats likely would have to be.
"I think that we should find somewhere else to hunt," he said. While the Frog Pond teemed with life, he was starting to feel a sense of unease; even his happy-go-lucky nature had been subdued. As if on queue, some twigs snapped from the high grass and he jumped, hopping around to partially hide behind Sootpaw, eyes widened as he tried to find the source of the noise.
[ who could it be (i was planning on throwing in one of my warriors - but if you dont want that to happen it could just be a rabbit or something! 0: ) ]

((It should definitely be a warrior or two, getting caught could be fun!!)
Sootpaw's gaze darted to the high grass, she unsheathed her claws and lowered herself towards the ground, ready to defend herself if need be. She shifted her gaze to Owlpaw, trying to gauge his reaction to the sound. 'What if it's the fox? she thought, a sense of panic rising in her chest. 'I'd prefer a patrol at this point...'

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
There was no doubt about it - he could hear pawsteps. He crouched down, eyes widened and ears flattened against his skull. We could die here, he realised - and instantly found himself regretting coming out. It had been fun, but was it worth being killed by a hungry animal? What if it was a coyote! He knew that they were more likely around the mountain, but maybe one had gotten hungry!
It was almost a relief when Ashstar emerged from the bushes, and for a moment, he thought that the leader looked rather noble - until he noticed the sharp look in the older tom's eyes.
"What are you two doing here?" he asked in firm tone, narrowing his eyes at the duo of apprentices. His tail lashed back and forth in a notably annoyed movement. Though he knew that they were in deep trouble, Owlpaw couldn't help but be relieved that they had been caught by a cat and not by the vixen that was wandering the territory. Even so, he cowered behind Sootpaw.
Ashstar did not look impressed in the slightest, his gaze flicking from one apprentice to the other as he awaited an explanation. The scent of more cats hit Owlpaw's nose, and his eyes widened even further as Snowfoot appeared. He wasn't her apprentice - but she seemed to have taken him on in a motherly sort of way. With the way her expression was, she didn't seem particularly amused, much like the leader.
Oh yeah. They were in trouble.
[ when u have muse for ashstar so u just throw him in maybe on a patrol if you wanted to add one (or two) of your warriors <: )

Eh- Why not I'll throw in Briarsong and Crowstrike lol))
Sootpaw looked at the Patrol, which consisted of Ashstar, Snowfoot, Crowstrike, and Briarsong. Though if she was honest with herself she was really just relieved it wasn't a predator. 'I guess I should've been careful when I hoped for a patrol... I didn't mean THEM.' The fact that it was Ashstar scared Sootpaw the most... but along with Snowfoot and Crowstrike? Starclan really was not in a merciful mood. Out of the whole patrol, the only one Sootpaw was glad to see was Briarsong, who she knew to be rather kind and forgiving.
Realizing Owlpaw had begun to hide behind her Sootpaw made herself as big as she could muster, "W-w-we needed some air, everyone in camp just seems so... tense, we wanted to get away- Just for a bit." she stated, at first she had begun to stutter but towards the end of the sentence her voice was smooth and unwavering.

Owlpaw & Ashstar & Snowfoot replying to Sootpaw, Briarsong and Crowstrike.
"Owlpaw," as soft as her voice was, Owlpaw knew the harsher side of Snowfoot like the back of his paw. Though she was a relatively peaceful and gentle she-cat, he supposed that the motherly instincts run out stronger. "I told you not to leave camp alone."
Ashstar's ears twitched and he turned to look at his warriors before he returned his gaze to the apprentices. His pupils narrowed to thin slits as he watched Sootpaw and listened to her explanation, but it didn't seem to please him. Instead, he padded forward a few steps and gestured with his tail for the warriors accompanying him to circle the apprentices. It was both to ensure that they didn't run off and to ensure that they were safe. He'd scented the fox somewhat nearby, and he didn't like the idea of having apprentices harmed.
"I see," he said. "You both know that you're not supposed to leave the camp - and even further, that the Frog Pond is dangerous. You're too young to be here alone. You could've asked anyone. Instead, you endangered yourselves. What would you have done had we been the fox?"
Something inside him told him that it probably wasn't fair to let Sootpaw stand up to the leader on her own. After a moment's hesitation, he stood up a little taller - though he was still shaking a little. He didn't really want to take any responsibility for this, and considering he was the younger of the two he knew that he could get away with pretending he'd been coerced - but that seemed unfair and false.
"I sort of encouraged this," he lowered his head a little. "Okay. A lot of encouragement."
This definitely did not please Ashstar (or Snowfoot). He watched as the leader's gaze passed over each warrior individually, and he wondered what they were going to do. Probably not take them on patrol - that was a treat for apprentices, not a punishment. A long sigh passed the grey tom, and he eventually shook his head.
"What do you think we should do with them?" his question was clearly directed at the warriors he was with. "I'd like to hear your opinions on their tale."

Sootpaw looked to Owlpaw, she hadn't expected him to take credit for the outing... especially when she was the one who suggested it. She moved her tail against his flank in an attempt to both thank and comfort him. When the warriors surrounded them anxiety filled the she-cats chest...and this anxiety showed.
Briarsong was the first to answer Ashstar, "While I find it admirable that Owlpaw took credit for the outing- I find these two to have been vacuous in their decision, they could have been killed. As for Sootpaw's inadequate excuse for leaving the camp in the first place, it's inexcusable... I believe these two, alone should now be responsible for anything the elders or queens need."
Sootpaws jaw nearly dropped, Briarsong was the one she felt would be the most merciful... and that amount of work felt impossible for the two to accomplish. Sootpaw shifted her gaze to Owlpaw, her eyes wide.

( I'm so sorry for not posting any sooner. I've been messing around with my new drawing tablet ;v )
Asterpaw - Vixenpaw
Asterpaw nodded to Vixenpaw, absorbing the area's traits. It was seeming to become more dangerous if they were to continue forth, and the male only huffed at the thought of abandoning the idea of exploring the routes. He had disagreed with the ridiculous suggestion made by the female, but he had began to take an interest in the journey. Asterpaw, however, did prefer to keep his pelt. Turning his head to Vixenpaw, he smiled, "Yeah, I think we should head back down. Maybe when we arrive, we can choose what to do."
The blue feline began his way downward, getting ready to reply to her guess, when he was cut off by the cry of the predator. That's it. He huffed and looked up. Instantly, Asterpaw realized how big the bird was-- and that he realized it could take him off the ground. Gulping, his stare wasn't interfered with as he felt Vixenpaw's fur slightly brushed his. Instead, the male cried out a loud, unnatural noise. How it was possible was completely unknown, but he had managed to make an awkward, loud imitating screeching of a bird. With a huff, he noticed the bird fly off slightly faster, and dug his paw against the dirty floor in agitation, attempting to distract himself from the creature of flight. "Stupid bird."

Owlpaw & Ashstar & Snowfoot replying to Sootpaw, Briarsong and Crowstrike.
The discussion of punishment had the young tom crouching down a little more. Why did I try to take the blame? he wondered. That was, he had to admit, an impressively stupid mood. He tensed further as the leader's gaze swept over the two, clearly considering the warrior's words. I thought Briarsong was nice, he thought, ears flattening. Owlpaw's gaze flicked to meet with Sootpaw's, and he shook his head minutely.
Ashstar exhaled lowly and listened to their surroundings for a moment. There were no immediate dangers; he couldn't smell any venomous snakes, and the water was not thick - yet. He considered Briarsong's words for a moment before he shifted his weight between his paws.
"I agree with Briarsong," said Snowfoot, in her soft voice. Had she not proven her worth many moons ago, he would not have listened to her - but as it was, he nodded and briefly glanced to Crowstrike before he settled on his decision. The grey tom turned around and began to walk back the way they came, his tail-tip twitching to show both the apprentices and the warriors that he wanted them to follow. This patrol was being cut short on account of two naughty kits.
"I think that's a fair enough punishment," he mewed, pausing at the entrance of the tall grass to look back at the other cats. "I also expect you two to cater to the Medicine Cats and assist them as needed. Your punishment will last a full moon, but your mentors may take you off duties briefly to continue your training. Come on, let's get you home."
Though trembling, Owlpaw began to pad forward, eyes widened even further. A full moon? Though the timing sounded harsh, he supposed he could understand - to a degree. He did, however, shoot a betrayed glance to Briarsong and Snowfoot. Just because he could.
Vixenpaw replying to Asterpaw.
She had to admit - she flinched a little at the sound her companion made. What in StarClan's name was that? she wondered, eyes widening as they flicked to look at Asterpaw. For a moment, she opened her mouth to speak - before tensing as the shadow of the bird darted overhead. Instinctively, she began to head down - scrambling down the rocks in a semi-graceful attempt, before she landed on the path below and turned to look at the tom.
"What was that?" she asked, unable to help herself. Vixenpaw had never heard a cat made a sound like that. She wondered if it was what she had sounded like as a kit; rough and vicious, something feral and non-cat. The fur along her back settled down again as the bird vanished out of sight entirely. It did not seem to be very interested in them, after Asterpaw's display.
Easily scared, she thought, turning her gaze up to the peak of the mountain. I wouldn't have thought it. Birds of prey were so much bigger than apprentices - and even though it had been scared away by the other apprentice, she didn't want to stick around long. There would probably be patrols out soon, and she wanted to get back to camp before anyone noticed they were missing. That said - she had no plans to stop bothering Asterpaw, as she had many questions about the noise he had made. Too many.
