( alright ;u; I can agree with you there though )
Asterpaw - Vixenpaw
The following shriek caused the male to flinch slightly. It was concerning, as for it seemed the bird could've been bigger than he thought. The thought of a giant bird, who prayed on adult cats, would find the apprentices as easy targets and swoop down on one of them had made Asterpaw shiver. What would happen if the predator had taken a chance and decided to try and grab Vixenpaw or even himself? He gulped quietly before leaping forward and landing on a stable rock, enjoying the harsh feeling against his cut up paw pads.
"I'm not scared" - Her tone echoed in his voice. Although it was abrupt, he only smirked at her response. Her pitch was also higher, which only heightened his belief that she was-- at least-- slightly frightened. The one question that made him ponder was if she would she admit it. After all, she was somewhat stubborn, she seemed to take pride into herself, and thus, she wouldn't admit it. But, it was just his opinion. How could she not be scared? Deep down, Asterpaw was, and he the bravest he could be.
"But you're smaller than me." He wanted to sarcastically state. Instead, he closed his muzzle and nodded to her command. With another leap, he landed onto the path, and began to fasten his pace to trot slightly faster than the feline. Asterpaw sighed quietly, knowing that this journey would be somewhat boring-- but it had awakened him-- his whole purpose in joining her was to wake himself up. Thinking of the earlier events, Asterpaw smirked at his next sentence.
"No worries, I'm the bird whisperer," He imitated the she-cat, turning his gaze to her once more, "No birds will come to get you, Vixenpaw."

[ my habits are generally terrible~ but hey, i seem to be doing decently at replies today <: not too shabby if i do say so myself ]
Vixenpaw replying to Asterpaw.
For a moment, she paused in her movements and simply looked skyward. Everything felt warmer here. Truth be told, Vixenpaw didn't know much about the Trial. She had never sat it, after all - though she was so close to her first attempt that she could almost taste it. Perhaps it was her ambition that pushed her forward, as her pace continued on after she was done marveling at the sheer scale of the mountain, paws moving quickly so as to keep up with Asterpaw. Her long tail swayed behind her in a lazy fashion, ears twitching at every little sound. From time to time, the strange bird above cried again; and yet it never swooped down, and so she could only assume that it was not aware of them, or it was calling to something else.
Not a particularly comforting thought.
"Hey," her ears half-pinned. "I wasn't joking about the fox-whisperer thing," she huffed softly, idly kicking a pointed stone away. Her attention was briefly caught by a mountain goat; it stood on the tiniest ledge it could have found, pulling away at the flowers growing from some of the cracks in the stone. It stared at the two cats blankly, seemed to deem them non-threatening, and continued its feast peacefully.
Vixenpaw shook her head and continued to follow the path. It seemed relatively simple so far, with its gentle turns and the gradual slope upwards. What's so hard about going up this? she wondered. Beyond the height of the mountain, she truly couldn't see why so many apprentices struggled - which was unnerving in itself. Did warriors make it harder, or were there natural threats the higher up they went?
As if to answer her silent question, the volcano rumbled and a few small stones rolled past her. She tensed briefly before she looked back to Asterpaw, tail now lashing back and forth in some agitation.
"What do you think is the biggest problem for apprentices to face when they have to climb this?" she asked, deciding to see his opinion on this whole thing. "Because it doesn't seem as difficult as I would've thought," aside from the bird, but that was more of a psychological thing than anything else, and she knew that. Vixenpaw didn't like it - but she could deal with it.

( a little over decent c; )
Asterpaw - Vixenpaw
Asterpaw looked up around the area, attempting to discover where the bird was, but still no avail. The thought made his tail lash out in irritation. The fact that this bird is hiding and stalking them was beginning to annoy him. Although it was frightening of what it could do, his anger was beginning to dominate over his fear. Once the bird was to present itself, he would definitely make sure to give it a treat of his.
The soothing response from Vixenpaw had instantly calmed him-- and he let out a low chuckle. Though, looking around, he too spotted the goat. Never had it shown any true interest into the two, nonetheless seem threatening. Asterpaw scoffed at this, confused on what the deal about this whole journey was. It didn't seem as dangerous as others said it was. However, when the volcano rumbled and when some pebbles flew back down the mountain, he gulped. Turning his impressive skull up to look at Vixenpaw, he had realized they were thinking the same thing.
"Perhaps it's when we reach The Lake of Lava, is when things intensify. After all, it should get hotter than hot, and we could fall in it." Hesitating, the tom inched forward, unsure if he were to continue his journey with his comrade, "It doesn't seem that dangerous either, but maybe something happens when we leave at the designated time. Or maybe the warriors of the clan make it much more difficult to get up the mountain? Even getting down, if you run, you could injury yourself greatly. If you're careful and you head down, you could still slip. So my say is, I wouldn't really know. Maybe when we actually reach The Lake of Lava is when it's the most dangerous.. Do you have any ideas on what it could be?"

[ thank you, twi ~ im trying so hard orz
i have most of my characters open, zombie c: ]
Vixenpaw replying to Asterpaw.
"Or maybe it's how high it gets," she mused. She didn't want to back out of this challenge, but - well. The path seemed to have an abrupt stop and it required climbing up a surprisingly steep ledge. She eyed it before she turned to Asterpaw and perked her ears. Awesome. "Looks like it's dangerous to go further. Do you want to go on, or do you want to go explore something else?"
Maybe they could hunt instead of this. Honestly - she had mild regrets about deciding she wanted to seek out a route for the Trial.
"I think the warriors might put obstacles, maybe?" she offered up. Vixenpaw didn't know what made it so hard - perhaps it was the intense physical pressure? If there were a lot of places where climbing were required, she could see it being a pacing problem. The more she thought about it, the more nervous she got; though she puffed her chest out and tried her best to look like it didn't bother her. Not at all.
Until a shadow passed overhead, and she ducked instinctively. She glanced up and spotted a large bird - an eagle, maybe - swooping down. It landed a few ledges above and peered down at them with narrowed eyes. It opened its beak and screeched again, and it promised that yes, it had been the thing cawing. It's pretty big, she thought, eyes widening. It didn't move closer to them, however, and that was a great relief. She didn't know what to do about it. The slender she-cat shifted her weight back and kept her gaze firmly on it, backing up until she was right next to Asterpaw.

mousethistle replying to lilyshade camp
Mousethistle enjoyed the taste of the mouse and started thinking about her plans for the day. The warrior wasn't feeling too active today, so she wasn't really sure on what she could do.She could go hunting soon or just stay in camp, although might be looked down upon. A warrior had duties to fulfill, after all. She sighed and decided that she could try and go to the Rushing River or The Frog Pond so she could comfortably hunt while sitting or laying down.
A little bit of relief struck her when it was Lilyshade, the cat she had been glancing at earlier before forcing herself to just eat and ignore her. She wanted to be with someone right now, even if Mousethistle's personality was... not the best. It was weird, wanting to hang out with a clanmate but wanting to be rude to them at the same time. The tortoise-shell cat replied, "You can just eat here, but I don't think sharing tongues is something I want to be doing right now." She held back her sharp tongue, trying not to chase away a potential... buddy. Mousethistle didn't speak, not sure what to say to another cat.
( oh gosh i just realized how hard it is to rp someone who wants to be an a-hole to everyone... also sorry for the late reply, i was busy yesterday rip )
Lilyshade Replying to Mousethistle
Lilyshade's whiskers twitched, a little surprised at Mousethistle's response. She had expected her to warmly accept the offer at sharing tongues, but guessed not. "Oh, alright then." She meowed, settling down beside the she-cat. As she began to dig into her prey, awkwardness pricked her pelt as it grew silent. She didn't want to be apart of this conversation anymore, although there never really was one to begin with. Glancing over at Mousethistle, she began to mildly regret her offering of eating with her. She tried to concentrate on something else around camp as she ate, hoping for a distraction of some sort so she could have an excuse to ease herself away from Mousethistle. When no distraction came, Lilyshade began to grow impatient.
"What am I supposed to do now?" She thought, her tail flicking back and forth. She wanted to make friends within the Clan, but it wasn't exactly going great right now. Maybe she should make an offer to hunt instead of this? Honestly. Finally, Lilyshade came to the conclusion that trying to talk to Mousethistle was better than to not. "So, uh...nice weather we're having?"

CoolCoolCool ) Sootpaw emerged from the apprentice's den, smiling- Though she couldn't pinpoint why the she-cat was just happy. She made her way towards the fresh-kill pile, smiling at everyone as she passed by them. She looked through the fresh-kill pile and decided she wasn't particularly hungry. Upon looking around Sootpaw noticed Owlpaw, "Hey!" she called out- hoping to get his attention.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
For a vast majority of the day, Owlpaw had done - surprisingly - nothing. He had tried to help Cinderpaw with his duties, but had gotten distracted multiple times and so had eventually been pushed away to do his own thing. He'd tried to visit the Nursery, only to get stopped by Poppytail who'd wanted him to get her fresh-kill. He'd tried to escape camp, only to be stopped by Snowfoot. Really, his day wasn't going particularly well.
Whatever energy had possessed him to try many terrible things had finally eased out as the sun began to dip towards the horizon, and he had been settled comfortably in camp, eyes half-closed as he dozed almost peacefully. His paws were tucked underneath his little body, and it was possible, for a moment, to imagine that he could've been as peaceful as he appeared. When he heard his name, however, any sign of peace seemed to vanish; his ears perked up and his eyes blinked open rapidly, and he stood up relatively quickly. Whether he had been startled or not remained to be seen, as he picked up on the source of the voice quickly. The young tom bounced over to Sootpaw, tail waving in the air.
"Hello," he chirped, now completely awake, it seemed. "Do you need something?"

Sootpaw, seeing that she seemed to have woken the tom up, panicked for a moment, "I didn't mean to wake you!" She exclaimed, "I hadn't actually noticed that you were asleep! I'm sorry!" she apologized. Her tail flicked anxiously for a moment, 'See, you've woken him up and now he's annoyed with you.' she thought. For a moment the smile on her face dropped, though she quickly began to smile again, "I don't particularly need anything other than some company."

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
"Eh, it's okay," he laughed. Owlpaw was not a bad-natured cat in the slightest; and he certainly wasn't bothered by something as minor as being woken up. If anything, he was glad to be wanted by someone - it felt like today had just been a mess of being pushed away. He sat down in front of the other apprentice and idly scratched his ear with his hind leg, sighing with relief once the itchy spot was gone. "Company, huh," he blinked owlishly - rather like his namesake. "What did you wanna do?"
Clearly, he was interested in the idea of getting into some mischief. He stood up again and shook himself out, and then began to bounce between his paws in an eager motion, ready to cause trouble.
[ all's chill, yo. ]

The she-cat grinned, "Well, I'm rather glad you asked! Because I've been feeling cooped up here in camp as of late... and I was hoping to ...escape for a bit." She paused, hoping to gauge his reaction. "How would you feel like a hunt Sans mentors?" Her whiskers twitched excitedly, she'd never left the camp without a mentor with her and she was absolutely dying to run free for once.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
The mention of sneaking out made Owlpaw's eyes light up. He hesitated momentarily, gaze sweeping the camp to see which warriors were around. Poppytail, it seemed, had already gone to the warrior's den; and Snowfoot appeared to be curled up in a corner, fast asleep. His brother was nowhere to be seen, either; which meant that, in all likeliness, their plans would not be thwarted.
"Sure, yes," he turned to look back at Sootpaw and grinned, trotting quickly towards the entrance. If they were quick enough, he doubted they'd get spotted. Nobody was watching the entrance all the time, were they? "Let's go, let's go!"
Admittedly, he wasn't the best hunter yet. But that made this expedition better, right? It meant that he'd be able to practice and look way cool when he had actual training, which was a winning situation, in his eyes. With this goal in mind, Owlpaw kept his tail high in the air, tail-tip twitching as he marched onward. He did, however, remain alert - for any of the warriors could stop them if they noticed, and he didn't particularly want that.

Sootpaw grinned happily, padding her way towards the entrance of the camp as quickly as her paws would carry her. She looked around hoping not to be spotted. She giggled slightly as the two left. Once further from the camp, she turned to Owlpaw, "We did it! I hope..." she laughed, whisker's twitching anxiously. "Do you think anyone saw us? Or are we safe?" she asked.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
He glanced over his shoulder even as he continued to walk, and didn't pause in his movements. It didn't look like any warriors were following, so he shook his head and flicked his gaze to Sootpaw, a wide grin still on his features even as he hopped over some twigs so as not to make any noise.
"We're safe," Owlpaw confirmed. "I think there might be some warriors in the forest, though, so we should probably be a little careful," he mused softly, finally slowing down. The young tom scented the air and found that, as usual, it was rich with prey. As the sun began to set, he knew that different prey would come out - though he was admittedly a little sad that they had missed the time that lizards would be around. They were his favourite prey, and while they would be around during the night, it was so much easier to catch them in the sun - or so he'd been told. "Where should we go from here?"

Sootpaw thought for a moment, her eyes widened in excitement, “oh, oh, oh! Can we go to the frog pond? I’m never allowed to go there!” She exclaimed. The young she-cat wanted to attempt to catch a few frogs, and possibly work on her balance. She wanted to prove to her mentor that she was capable of everything everyone else was.

Owlpaw replying to Sootpaw.
For a moment, Owlpaw considered it. He'd been to the Frog Pond a couple of times - it was supposed to be dangerous to a degree, and wasn't used often outside of leafbare. He nodded and began to pounce towards that way; there were supposed to be snakes there, and he hadn't eaten one of those before. Were they even edible? He knew that there were some frogs and newts around there, too - so even if the snakes didn't smell edible, the rest definitely would be nice.
"Yep, yep," he chirped, tail remaining high in the air. "Let's go!"
