I still want the Choosers to be unaffiliated... I'll come up with something. яєɗ Like scarpath said, the kits would need to be unbiased. If we use my herb idea, then any influence wouldn't matter because they wouldn't remember it.

i'm not sure about the herb idea... honestly, i think it should just come from observation of the kits? if we did go with the herb idea, what kind of "testing" would the kits undergo?
Red, jackal sounds good! maybe i'll look up the word "wise" in a different language and then make that the owl's name. maybe the owl and the jackal show up in each Clan's folklore (obviously the one native to the Clan shows up more often) but they hold different stances - so the jackal tends to be overplayed as "harsh" and "cruel" in OwlClan and the owl tends to be overplayed as "know-it-all" and "proud" in SunClan?
i think i'm gonna write up a quick myth - maybe just some folklore about a wise old leader or something, just for an experiment.

i'm kinda thinking of them as friends - they run into each other a lot and sometimes bicker, but they ultimately work together for the greater good of both of their Clans? and they don't really seek each other out for friendship, but they're often thrown into situations where they have to act together, and maintain an amiable relationship, like you said.
actually, i've been brainstorming some ideas for the lore about the actual splitting of the Clans - maybe like the Clan is having trouble surviving and so the owl appears to one cat in a dream, and the jackal in another, and hints (because, you know, hinting is a lot more fun than just telling them) that they have to split, and these two cats become the new leaders? if we're doing this splitting Clan thing, we have to establish the circumstances.
or maybe we don't, but you know, it's fun.

яєɗ That sounds like a good idea! Scarpath I'd like to think that it'd be modeled after the test in Divergent. Obviously they wouldn't use the simulation serum, but the testing material could be similar. Here's what I've got: First, the kit is made to face one of the Choosers. The Chooser would act as any enemy cat would, except they obviously wouldn't go as far as to hurt the kit. If the kit attempts to outsmart the opponent, then that would show aptitude for OwlClan. If they face the opponent, then that would show aptitude for either DarkClan or SunClan. Next, an apprentice from the Clan would be chosen and taken out to the testing zone, where they would be buried in sand up to their muzzle and told to make as if they were stuck. The kit would be brought to them, and would be given the freedom to help the cat or ignore them. If they straight up ignore them with little to no hesitation, then that quite clearly shows aptitude for DarkClan. If they help them with little to no hesitation, then they immediately show aptitude for SolaceClan. Depending on how they help the cat, they may show aptitude for SolaceClan still or OwlClan. If the method they use to help the cat is thoughtful and intuitive, they will show aptitude for OwlClan. Next, they will be brought to face three separate piles. One contains deathberries, another a moss ball with water, and the final contains herbs. One of the Choosers will lay behind the piles, pretending to be sick. The kit will be told that they have four choices: 1) Pick the deathberries to end the cat's suffering and their burden on the Clan. This shows aptitude for SunClan. 2) Pick the moss ball to help the cat feel more comfortable. This shows aptitude for SolaceClan. 3) Pick the herbs to help heal the cat. This shows aptitude for OwlClan. 4) Straight up ignore the cat. This shows aptitude for DarkClan. Finally, the kit will be taken aside and asked what the warrior code truly means to them. Their answer will influence their future Clan. The Choosers will then go to a private location and debate the kit's results.

I'm 110% on board for Owl & Sun to split. I'd love to hear the lores you've thought of? Also: we'd need a name for the Clan. Like it has a name "PoolClan", but most cats refer to it as BrokenClan maybe? Or ForgottenClan? Obviously not forgotten, but. Or: we can have them all be grouped under "OwlClan" and then SunClan brakes off, making them two separate groups? It could be something desert-y, like OasisClan, DuneClan, BurrowClan, etc.

Moments, i really like the idea of having the tests. i'm not sure if i'm sold on all of them, but i think those kind of trails would be good along with some observation of the kits? maybe they do a "halfway" observation, where they come into the Clans and watch three moon old kits, and then when they turn six moons they get the tests. i might have some tweaks for some of the tests, or my own suggestions, soon.
Red!! i love the idea of PoolClan, but it is referred to as BrokenClan! i think that OwlClan and SunClan should be two different names.
on the ground, cats who live in PoolClan are starting to notice that they're not all quite morally similar. medicine cats are the first to notice - some treat them with upmost respect, and some treat them like they're only there to help the Clan. in the heavens, the owl and jackal are starting to bicker as well. the two decide that these cats, though originally placed in the same Clan, are too different to continue living together, so they send messages to two warriors in the form of dreams. now, this goes with the paragraph below, but the jackal and owl tell the two warriors to come to the stream at a certain time, but neither knows the other is going to be there.
okay that's not as far as i got, but what if... the drowning kit scenario was a real thing that actually happened, only witnessed by the two warriors who had the dreams (whose names we should decide, as they will be the first leaders of OwlClan and SunClan), and one finds the smart way to save the kit and the other simply refuses to try to save it, as his/her life is worth far more than the helpless kit's, who might not even belong to his/her Clan.
in reply to Moments about the Clan's name; i like PoolClan because it kinda "pooled together" two different sub-groups, but if you want to stick to desert-y names, i also like some of your suggestions! Red?

Scarpath I like the idea of the halfway observations, but instead of them being at a set time they should be random. If they were to set a specific time for it, then the Clan could easily coerce the kit to behave a certain way. I was also thinking... What if the Choosers were kind of like Rock in that their true origins are unknown, but they are believed to be both immortal and very old? Perhaps they are both blessed and cursed; blessed in that they are immortal and therefore extremely wise, but cursed in that they are stuck in their jobs as Choosers in exchange for immortality?

yes yes yeS YES
I doeth liketh this.
Referring to leaders as Sun and Owl to be easy rn And I think the drowning kit scenario should be a real thing. Now, we can say there were two kits drowning, two PoolClan kits that cats noticed were missing. And when the cat who saved his kit is returned, he's regarded as a hero, but explains the cat who came without the sibling refused to save it, therefore PoolClan's leader banishes Sun. Sun is a fairly popular cat, and cats that agree with her suddenly get hostile at Sun's banishment. Those that agree with Owl take up his/her side, and the two break out into a fight, which kills the deputy & leader of PoolClan, which is how Sun and Owl started their new clans? And while they were splitting BrokenClan territory that first few weeks, they righted their wrongs and helped each other until everything was set - and then their friendship began?

i like that idea as well!
and ooo, making the Choosers kinda mysterious can work in our favor and provide good plot detail. so, maybe, the cats say they've never seen a change in the Choosers, but they're not sure why. and the Choosers are a bit stoic and focused on their jobs; they don't chit-chat, or make small talk. not much is known about them, or if they're immortal for sure - though they certainly seem so - and why they are immortal, if they are. does that make sense at all?
also, Red, i was thinking - what if the kit was a rogue kit? that would make more sense for the SunClan warrior to ignore it, because it would be no benefit for SunClan saving it, even if there's a smart way to do it.
edit: oh wait, our ideas contradict each other. yours makes more sense plot-wise. i'm gonna wait for your response to this before trying to make mine work in terms of how, exactly, SunClan and OwlClan split and how Sun and Owl become leaders.

ooh, i like that. so Sun wants to let the kit drown; he doesn't think that his life is worth the life of the rogue kit, for the good of the Clan. Owl knows that the smart thing is to save the kit, and bring it back to PoolClan. the two argue, but eventually, Owl saves the rogue kit, and bring it back to PoolClan, where it eventually becomes his apprentice. but Sun tells the tale to his "followers", who believe that it was against their morals for Owl to risk his life. then the Sun and his followers bring the idea to the leader at the time, who dismisses them and says not to argue, and that's when the battle between Sun and his followers and Owl and his followers begins. then, like you said, the leader and deputy are killed, and Sun and Owl eventually come to the agreement to form two new Clans?
i used "his" pronouns for both cats; in my mind, Owl is female and Sun is male, but obviously that can be changed, especially Sun. even though this is just folklore, and not an actual part of the roleplay, haha.

I gotcha. I won't mind rping Sun as a male if this is first generation Sun and OwlClans, but since I haven't decided Sun is going by both "he" and "she" lol
After the leader and deputy are killed, Sun and his cats go rogue. After noticing his cats are struggling, Sun goes to Owl (aka Owlstar now [changing on whatever we actually name them]) and says since they now have the smallest clans if they can split PoolClan's territory up into two, and for the first few moons they help each other out. Meaning, they're in a transition phase, so they live in the same camp, but hunt on different territories & stuff just until SunClan finds a camp?
Plus, it's cool bc all the clans can have their own legends about BrokenClan, like how they can say "go to BrokenClan" and that BrokenClan can become a reference for banishment and stuff

ooh, i didn't think about what generation this was - i was thinking this is more of a story told by the Clans? i know OwlClan is probably very fond of history and old tales, idk about SunClan.
other than that, i really like what we have going on here!! i have some ideas for the name of the Owl, they are: Akili, Busara, Kujua, Fikra. they all mean something about being smart in Swahili, but i kinda forgot which one was which - i'm going off of how they sound for now. which do you think?
also, i don't think the first leader of OwlClan is going to be Owlstar - i'll think of a name soon, but he/she named the Clan after the owl that appeared in her dreams.

oh, same goes for OwlClan - though in this case, stories are for teaching and enjoyment, as the apprentices and young warriors typically enjoy listening to the history. so how many generations do you think have passed since the split, if any? i was thinking quite a few, so it's like an ingrained part of their history, and the first leaders are looked at as noble historical figures.
i liked Akili too! it was my first choice, and actually means "wise", so it's very fitting. i might write up some stuff about her - she only appears when the message is important or urgent, otherwise the medicine cats and leaders get normal StarClan messages. maybe i'll think of some folklore for her that doesn't necessarily involve Clan cats - how she came to be, etc. but i have like, no ideas for that.
goodnight, as well, hopefully we can talk more tomorrow!

Jas Maybe try restarting your computer/phone? яєɗ Of course, but my minimum is going to be 5-6 lines per post with minimum OOC. Also, for activity, I'm gonna say at least two RP posts must be made every three days. If they don't, they get 72 hours to fix the issue or else I'll remove them. The 72 hours is reduced to 24 if I see that they're active in another one of our Clans but not mine.

In SolaceClan, I'd imagine the Medicine Cat to be one of the highest ranks. What are your opinions on it being at level with the Clan leader? It'd be something like:
Leader Medicine Cat Deputy Warriors Caregivers Queens Kits Elders
? Any suggestions on ranks / changing the order they're in?
|
|
|
Post by Jas on Aug 13, 2016 15:04:59 GMT -5
For SolaceClan, based on what I've read so far, I think most jobs should essentially be pooled together and be a shared-effort. So there wouldn't be any set mentor / apprentice relationship, but rather all warriors share the duty of training apprentices. I'm not sure how a final test would go in this Clan? SolaceClan places a lot of emphasis on caring for those that are weaker and/or sick. So every cat shares in caring for Queens, kits, and Elders. I think maybe the Caregiver rank should extend to also caring for the Elders as well as any sickly cats in the Clan. (However, I think I need to make the rank a little higher. Maybe below Deputy, but above Warriors?) I'm still kind of wondering if Medicine Cat should completely replace leader as a medicine cat's empathy and job to care for others is essentially all that SolaceClan is about.
Also, I'm not really sure what animal would fit with SolaceClan?

Jas You could make the medicine cat the leader rank of the Clan. Sort of like the Tribe's Healer.
