@mintedstar/fur "The demons?" Steve repeated, raising an eyebrow. "Hospitals are to help you get better when you're sick. They have medicines to heal a lot of people that most people don't have at home." He thought briefly of the war, closing his eyes as he tried to push the thought away - he knew he wasn't meant to be a doctor or anything, but he would rather die on the front fighting for his country - for the freedom of people who were being oppressed - than live on in the States letting his friends die instead. The only "demons" he knew of were the leaders of the armies he wanted to fight against. He was grateful to be distracted from the thought by a rather overly enthusiastic handshake from the kid. "Nice to meet you, Amico. I've never been to Wales but I'm sure it's lovely. I'm from Brooklyn." He wondered if the kid would even know what Brooklyn was if he didn't know what a hospital was. "New York," he clarified after a moment. Both locations completely stumped Myrnin. "You live by a brook but it's new? We have a river near where I live." Then he grinned, which still made it hard to tell he was joking. Still staking Steve's hand, because he hadn't a clue when he was supposed to stop, he added, "I don't know much about where things are. You're at least on Earth though, so I guess that works!" He wasn't sure what else to say about hospitals. They made him nervous, whatever they were. "What do ya do in Brooky-lin New York?" he asked, tilting his head in curiosity. "Do they have secret hideaways or sheep there? Or stuffed animals - only they aren't actually stuffed animals, they're just toys." He looked wistful. He remembered having a stuffed animal in the House. But he hadn't gotten to keep it.

Steve chuckled. "I dunno if you'd call the Hudson a brook," he replied, shaking his head. "It was named New York because it was named after a place in Great Britain called York, way before we declared independence from England." Though, he figured New York was probably better than regular York. It was, however, possible that at some point Amico had heard of York if Steve's guess was correct and Amico had come from some time in the past. Maybe Loki had been telling the truth when he had explained the House. Amico's next questions took Steve by surprise. "I suppose there are some secret hideaways, but there really aren't that many sheep. Least not in New York City, that I've seen." He shrugged. "There are stuffed animals though... have you never had one before?" He could remember his own childhood teddy bear - named so for Theodore Roosevelt, which Steve had always considered rather humorous.

"Well, ya see," The Doctor was saying, rubbing at her arms as if cold. There was a light dusting of snow along her shoulders and blond hair, so that might have been likely. She was opening her mouth, about to say something else, when she noticed she'd blinked in. "Oh ..." She looked around at the bookcase, the couches, and various chairs. Her face split into a grin. "Brilliant! Have I been inter-dimensionally kidnapped again?" (Please excuse the shortness --cato phoenix )

striderThe boy looked up with polite mystification. "Uh huh?" His head tilted just a little. "Where's England? Part of the Roman Empire? Or is it further away? 'cause Britain it sounds a bit like Britannia, but that's not Eng-land. And Britannia's part of the Roman Empire so that wouldn't work." His nose wrinkled. He did brighten up once again, expressions shifting at the drop of a hat. "Have you found a secret hideaway? Can I see?" He bounced a little on his heals. Then he paused, expression suddenly dropping and a sudden tear falling from his left eye. The boy just couldn't seem to decide what emotion he wanted. "Yeah ... we don't have sheep any more either." He fiddled with the hem of his clothing. "I had a stuffed animal before, but the House took it away." He wasn't looking up at Steve but instead down at his bare feet.

Steve stared at Amico for a few moments, realization dawning in him. Not only was Amico from his past, but he was from a very far distant past, before England, even. It was odd - he seemed so very human. It made Steve realize that humans had really always been human - kids had always been kids, and the little boy in front of him was just further proof of that. "Hm? If you ever come to New York I can show you what I've found," he replied, but sucked in a breath when Myrnin suddenly began crying. He wasn't the best at dealing with children, but he felt as though he had to at least try here. "I..." he couldn't help with the sheep issue, that part was clear enough. But maybe he could help out with the stuffed animal. "How 'bout this. You tell me what your favorite animal is, and if I see one in my world I'll buy it for you and carry it until I see you again. Does that sound good?"

(Hmm, probably Matt for now)
Matteo had been coloring when he blinked in, now leaving a long blue stripe across the coffee table. “Oops,” he giggled softly and dropped the crayon, standing up to look around. The little boy grinned widely and clapped his hands together, obviously excited to finally be back after a while of not being here. But when he looked around, he noticed a few new people. He always loved meeting new people, even if it was nerve wracking at first. The boy was just scared that someone would fine him annoying. He headed up to the blonde haired lady to introduce himself. “Um, Hola!” He said with a slight pause, then continued. “My name’s Matt.”

Does that sound good?" While the offer was nice - about Steve showing him things - Myrnin had by this time come to realize that wasn't very likely. He was clearly from a time far behind Steve, so what good was it? He wanted to though. Steve seemed nice. He wasn't full on crying, but he was sniffling a bit as he looked down at his shoes, his chest tense and heart thumping against his ears. What he liked? "Would you really?" he asked, so surprised his head jerked up and his wide, wet, plate-sized eyes fixed on Steve's face. Searching it for signs of a joke. What did he like? "I ... I don't know a lot of animals." The wolf-sheep-chair (Shade) came to mind. But then he didn't have the wolf-sheep-chair to see. "Uuuum." He chewed at his (dirty) thumbnail. He was still sniffing a bit, but Steve had successfully distracted him. "I ... I just know my sheep." Or he had. But that thought just brought on another bought of almost crying. Then he thought of the sort of stuffed animal he'd had in the room. "I had a bird dog thing from the house." Him mouth pulled up in a scowl as he tried to describe it. "It ... it had paws and body of a dog, but then a face like a bird and wings like a bird. And the tail was weird because it looked like a long snake with a horse tail on the end." It was hard describing a griffin when you didn't know what one was called.

"You bet I can. No one'll even-" Eliyen said as she appeared at the table. She looked up when her surroundings changed, hopeful for a moment, then sighed and shot a glare at the ceiling as she realized that she was back in the living room. "I swear this place always waits 'til the fun stuff's over to blink me in," she complained. Looking around the room, she noticed that one of the blinkers from her last visit to the House was there. That was a bit unusual, she almost never seemed to see the same people more than once. The elf wasn't sure if the other blinker had been talking to her or to the House itself, but she answered anyway. "Yep, haven't seen this place before? It's the main room everyone gets dropped in, bit boring if you ask me," she paused, then jerked her head in the direction of the doorway and added, "The ones down that hall over there are interesting sometimes."
( sorry for the late reply! )

Living room -- The Doctor -- --cato phoenix broken( Protractor if you want to blink your character into the living room you can join us. ) The Doctor looked first to Eliyen, who she recognized, and then to Matteo. The boy was ... what ...? Too young, that was what. If this place was anything like the previous place she'd been, then this wasn't the sort of nice dimension where she wasn't going to spend every waking moment worrying about those around her. So ... same old same old. "Hello!" she brightly greeted both Eliyen and Matteo. "I'm The Doctor," she said to Matt. "Nice to meet ya." She glanced at his coloring book and added, "Sorry about ya drawing." Her attention then briefly shifted to Eliyen. "Yes? They 'ave books here though? Read them yet?" She nodded at the bookcases and then glanced down at Matteo to see about him.

Matteo smiled briefly, looking between the two. They must know each other, but now he was wondering how long they’ve both been here. But he forgot to ask as soon as The Doctor looked over at the coffee table. The little boy shrugged, not really caring much about his drawing anyway. He blinked a few times, then looked back at he bookshelf. “Uh, no. The last time I looked in the books, there was nothing in them. They were just blank. But I mean, you can see if they’re any different if you want.”

(Hello!)
Mallory blinked into the living room. The young girl briefly flashed a look of surprise as the scenery changed. Seconds ago, she had been in math class. Now, she was sitting on a chair in some old house (at least, that's what it looked to be). Something similar had happened earlier today as well - she'd been playing tag at recess when she suddenly appeared in a high school basketball court. This was clearly a different place, but the areas had one thing in common: there were a bunch of weird people standing around. "Am I insane or something?" a smile was on her face and she spoke in a joking manner, but in part she was actually beginning to wonder if something was wrong. It still seemed probably that this all was a dream, but why hadn't she woken up by now? Unless the whole rest of the day was hallucinated and the old house was the start of the dream. Either way, the girl's brain was starting to hurt from thinking about it.

(Whoops. Started a reply but never posted it. @.@ )
"Everyone worth knowing is just a bit insane," The Doctor mused, glancing over at Mallory. But she reassured, "Don't worry though. It's just 'or somethin'. Apparently this is the Paradox House." She looked first to Eliyen and then to Matteo to confirm. "Ya just in another reality." She left the other part of the introduction to Matteo and Eliyen, since they were acting like they'd been here more than twice. In the mean time, she went to go check the bookshelves. She believed Matteo when he said they were blank, but she wanted to see them. Why? Why would they be blank? She opened one and flipped through it. "Odd," she admitted, though she didn't sound displeased.

(Sorry that it's kind of short)
Mallory didn't know whether to trust any of the people here, but she still let the Doctor's words sit for a minute. The Paradox House. Another reality. The thought of an alternate reality was oddly exciting. "That's pretty neat," the young girl commented in interest, getting to her feet. Even if everything they said was false, she wanted to hear more.

It took a long, long few minutes, enough time that one may have started to assume they didn’t know how to swim after all. But finally, near the bank that Neb and Volt had just landed on, joined by Astolfo, a hand shot out of the water. It gripped the nearest bunch of weeds, and then, as those began to come undone, their grip switched to a rock and they slowly, painstakingly began to pull themself out of the water. They surfaced, coughing and sputtering, and dragged themself up on the riverbank, landing flat on their back and taking deep, gasping breaths. A small cut on their face was beginning to ooze blood, but other than that, they seemed mostly unharmed, if a bit bedraggled. “No sign of the wolf,” they gasped, staring up at the others from their position on the ground. “You three have any success?”

A gale of wind buffeted the three blinkers on the ground as Hippogriff came in for a landing, it's feet touching down soundlessly on the soft earth. Astolfo was slouched forward and drooped over it's neck, looking absolutely miserable and feeling like he'd completely failed his duty. "Nothing. I couldn't find any trace of it."
All he could hope now was that the wolf just hadn't fell in in the first place. Before he could sit and think about it too long though, the paladin spotted Hange on the ground. "Ah! Are you okay?" In the blink of an eye, he lept off his mount and was crouching at the human's side with a face full of worry. He'd taken off before he'd seen the other blinker throw themselves into the river by choice, so as far Astolfo knew, they'd fallen in on accident.
As usual, the servant didn't hesitate to offer his assistance. He didn't have anything in the way of healing abilities, so he did the next best thing he could. "Here!" Reaching up he undid the latch keeping his cape on and held the piece of clothing out for the other blinker to take. "It'll at least keep you from getting sick. Or you can just dry off with it."
