L wiped his forehead with his sleeve and turned as the hybrid spoke, his own hand raising in greeting. “Hello.” He replied, looking Vanta over carefully. Non-humanoid, obviously, seemed at home in the lodge so either a an older blinker, a very chill newbie, or someone who because of the odd time in the House had been to the Lodge many times but not the living room. “Nice to meet you.” He continued, reaching for a cookie without taking his eyes off The other blinker. “Have we met? I’m sorry, I see so many people I’m afraid I don’t remember.” He wasn’t actually that sorry, but it seemed like the thing to say. Besides, he wanted to know whether Vanta had seen him around before.

"Your smell is unfamiliar, so I don't think so," Vanta replied. Of course, there were so many new sounds and smells in the House that he may have been missing something. This blinker didn't share a scent or voice of one he had met, so he assumed that they hadn't encountered each other before. "My name is Vanta."

L began to nibble a chocolate chip at the edge of his cookie and nodded. Interesting he said “scent”, was that his main sense? He knew it was an important one for canines, and the fox-cat looked similar, so it wasn’t much of a jump. “I’m L. I’m a detective.” He introduced himself. “Hello, Vanta.” He paused, feeling a twinge of awkwardness as he instantly ran out of things to say. He didn’t really chat for the sake of chatting much, but he did want to keep on making friends here if he could. “Have you heard of Earth?” He asked after a small pause, rubbing the back of his neck.

"Nice to meet you," Vanta said. His ears perked up at the term 'Earth'. It was something he knew of; the ground beneath his paws - at least back in his world - was always known as such. However, a couple other blinkers had used the term as a place. "As an object or a place?" the fox-cat inquired.

What experience he had gained around his somewhat dangerous line of work, dangerous as in it wouldn't be so bad if he didn't get too invested in his reports, that its best not to send an uneasy person into panicking any further. "Few cuts don't really match up to, oh, I dunno some real bad stuff later on." He bit his lip as his gaze wandered away from Shilo's fresh, wet tears to her scraped hands. Clear as day that his worries had come true for some first-class assassin he really, really had some questionable methods. Some of which he would soon see if he didn't do anything about it - which in this situation might be the case. Eddie hid a scowl under a searching glance taking another cautious look over at the young girl. "Good as in assassin good or being good at having an actual heart good? Look I get that he wants you to be good, the best ever, but even the people with good intentions can be wrong." The reporter spoke bluntly on the subject of Shilo's dreadful but glorified father.

Shilo looked up at Eddie as he spoke, then back to her arms. "They're not bad, they just sting. Do you think there's a first-aid kit?" She asked, steeling herself even more. Her voice was still even, and any emotion she'd been showing before was gone. She didn't want the man to worry. "Assassin good." Shilo looked at the man questioningly, confused about what he was trying to imply. "Papa is just helping, Eddie. If I hadn't cut my fingers so much, because I'm not good enough, everything would be fine." She stated defensively. Shilo pulled away, pushing herself to her feet without using her hands. "I'm going to go wash my hands." She murmured, stepping away from him and looking around. The lodge was so different, and she hadn't been able to go exploring yet, so she didn't know where anything was or even if there was a place to wash her hands. Maybe she could go outside and dip her hands in the snow?

"Mm." Loki hummed their acknowledgement of Myrnin's comment about the old holiday practice, briefly narrowing their eyes as they considered how old Myrnin must actually be. Probably something akin to their own age. "And how old would that be?" "Much of what you first told me seems to be true- and I believe that if there's someone behind this, they must be very powerful indeed. Though I don't doubt that The House-" They emphasized the word, lightly gesturing towards the ceiling with a semi-circle motion. "-as you all refer to it as could be its own entity. It certainly seems intuitive. And I assume you have your own philosophy on the place?" They quirked an eyebrow, expecting an answer. "Two thousand," Myrnin said dismissively, as if it was hardly an interesting length of time. Hardly worth mentioning at all. Which was common for Myrnin, but even he was one of the oldest vampires if not the oldest. "And how old are you? Since we're so politely exchanging ages." Myrnin considered, tilting his head. It was about one long second before he said, "My boyfriend thought it was an afterlife." He waved his hand in much the same way Loki had to indicate the House at large. "And truthfully he wasn't that wrong, at least in how you look at it. It was one of the more original philosophies I've seen here and it made me think I a little differently." The vampire looked around, hesitant, unsure how to completely answer. "I ... think most of what I believe is apt to change. But to some extent I believe the same as you do, though lean to believe the House is a being in its own right."

"It feels pretty nice if you ask me." Not surprising, Eises was enjoying the weather. She looked over at the two and took off her white coat. "Which one of you need it more?" She didn't need it anyway, she only used that coat as part of her magic endurance training. Not doing it for a bit while in the house wouldn't hurt, as long she got it back before blinking out. Would it even blink out if she wasn't wearing it? "Cameras?" That was a strange coincidence. She's never used a regular camera before, just the one on her phone. Only the record keepers in The Echo used regular cameras, and she wasn't a record keeper. Speaking of...She pulled out her device from her pocket. If the House was able to understand their photography speak... She pressed the long button on the side of her phone, and the screen lit up, causing her to gasp. Instead of showing her home screen however, it instead immediately opened the camera app. Pressing the home button did nothing, so it seemed to be stuck on just the camera. "R-Rae! Do you have your phone with you?" These were cameras? Noctin wondered, looking at the strange device. How did they work? They were just... boxes. How were you supposed to get the pictures out of them? "Aren't the pictures tiny?" he asked, trying to find a way to open one of them up. Finally finding a latch, he opened it up to find a cylinder with some thin, shiny paper in it. "What's this?" he asked, pulling the film out. Hearing Eises, he looked up. He would really like the jacket if it was as warm as it looked. His gaze flickered over to Rae. But if she wanted it, he would let her have it. He'd be fine it was just a little lot cold, after all. His interest piqued as he caught sight of Eises's phone lighting up. So it did do things. Putting the camera back on the counter, he made his way over to study the strange glowing box. "Ah, that's the film," Rae explained when Noctin found the canister, "it's what makes the pictures." She had reached out to pick up another camera, this one a bulkier polaroid type. "Go ahead and give it to Noctin," she answered Eises, catching Noctin's gaze. She was cold, but at least her jacket was meant for this weather and she wouldn't end up completely frozen. She then turned the camera over in her hands to lift the flash unit, and with a grin, she raised it up to look through the viewfinder.
Rae turned around, fiddling with the focus as she steadied in on Eises as Noctin wandered back to her. Seeing the lit up phone and at Eises' question, she quickly patted at her back pocket. "Oh, yeah!" She wasn't used to it blinking in with her often, so surprise laced her tone. Lowering the camera with one hand and pulling her phone out with the other, Rae walked back over to the two as the screen turned on for hers, the camera app open and ready. "I know I've always wanted to use my phone in the House, but now that it's kinda working it feels weird," she murmured, her brow raised high as she just stared at the screen.

{What a wonderful drawing ;o; }
"If you say so." Eises took her coat off and tossed it to the freezing boy. "I'd offer my shirt but I don't have anymore layers, sorry." She laughed sheepishly. Her shirt was also quite warm, once again as part of her endurance training with her magic. She decided to tone down the air-conditioner-like air that she gave off. It was back to the levels of a normal ice-user, but to her, it was a rare sight to feel it so low and warmer than what she usually gave off. It felt a little strange.
She couldn't help but grin when Noctin came to look at her phone. She had to move her head to the side, as Noctin's was taking up all her space and she couldn't see the full screen thanks to his head. "It does other stuff, like send messages and goin' on the internet, but it looks like the House only wants it to take pictures today." She was slightly thankful it didn't allow her to go on her browser. She still didn't know much about the internet and probably wouldn't be able to answer Noctin's inevitable questions. It was something Evina always nagged her to use more, so maybe she would once she returned home.
"Here, watch this." Eises lifted her hand a bit and tapped the corner of the screen that had two arrows whirling around each other, and within a second the screen showed off the front-facing camera. She gave a toothy grin before pressing the button on the side of the phone, making sure all three of them were in the photo. "And look look!" She tapped on a different corner of the screen, and the phone brought up the picture.

It likes games and all that." Eddie pointed over towards the lodge's sparkling and massive pine tree. The mysterious entity that kept them here was festive as it was cruel, who would have guessed? Maybe a few people if they were given a chance. As their direction headed towards somewhere else other than where they were standing so did the conversation. The jaded blinker blinked before raising his eyebrows, some would say they were trying to fly off his face. "Okay, okay, yeah training gets you scrapes - you don't immediately come out of the womb skilled as Mozart but if a logical, responsible adult thinks you should right off the bat, be able, to properly use a knife on the first couple of tries, that's-" He argued persistently, shrugging his shoulders dramatically continually peering around them as they talked back to each other. "- pretty stupid." The last thing he'd wanted to happen was for Shilo to be introduced to a harsh world so early on, the prospect of this environment becoming her new normal? It seemed more likely than anything.

Noctin ducked away, not proud of it, but far more driven to not be the one to be the bearer of such horrible news. Seeing Neb immediately rush to hug Enjolras, however, eased a bit of the guilt. Turning his attention fully to Cham, he was a little surprised how she reacted to seeing him. The last time they had seen each other was... ah. The fight with Nico. He believed he had blinked out, just as he'd been mortally wounded. It probably had looked like he had died, hadn't it? "I'm alright," he said quietly, stretching up on his toes to lightly touch his forehead to hers. "I'm sorry I scared you." Worry shone in his eyes as he looked up at her. "What about you? Did you get out alright?" He hoped so. Nico had been so angry, he didn't want to imagine the damage the other boy could have done in his rage. Unknown to the news of what had happened inside the house the house's walls, the mage was pleased enough with the sudden appearance of an old friend. She gave a shuddered breath as she left her beak dangling in the air keeping it as close to Noctin for as long as she could before pulling away to see the scrappy boy. "I came out just fine as well but a bit scratched up from being in that boy's grasp for a while longer." Chamomile chided with ease, glossing over the grittier details. It was in the past and it served as a reminder to never falter, lest the consequences come biting at her heels once more. Yet joyful she couldn't help to peer back at the desolate with a conflicted glance nonetheless she gave a surprised huff at the reunions happening around the lodge. "Who looked after you this whole time? I've heard about the war you told me moons ago, I wasn't sure if the house or the fighting might have finished you off. That is you of all people - that certainly would never happen."

</div> "Met someone who claimed to have blinked in for a couple of centuries. It doesn't get any worse, really." The reporter mused as he mindlessly fiddled with his hoard of bracelets. How he managed to walk with a disaster clamped onto him is beyond anyone's knowledge but its not like he was stuck with something constantly putting him in danger....oh wait. "Time freezes, ask people if it exists, look for it with those hacker skills of yours, whatever you can do. In the end, you get zilch so enjoy or hate this sacred fever." Eddie commented with no sarcasm for once, leaning towards a rather honest viewpoint out into the wind giving Rich a casual shrug of his shoulders. He could only give a resigned chuckle looking away from the renowned hacker as the profession came up. "Funny you say that, actually. See I've gotten my hands dirty every since I went into this place and even if I did do a report on you, lets face it, I'm not really for online entities. You'd be surprised but reporting is hard when the guys in suits are breathing down your neck more often than you can blink." He continued his longwinded as his ever-changing eyes glanced back up to the fairly humurous man in front of him. For some time in the house, prodding him would have come out with the truth by then yet what he did wasn't a mistake that's for sure, well, at least that's what he's been telling to himself for the most part of the scandal.

Shilo gave a nod, heading toward the cabinets first since that seemed like the most logical answer. Nothing. She then made her way to the Christmas tree, searching around it. Nothing. Well, at least she tried looking. She sighed, turning back to Eddie as he continued. "It's not about being as skilled as Mozart. It's about learning." She said. "He's teaching me more than just how to throw knives." Shilo explained, not liking that she was having to be put on the defensive. She just wanted the stinging to stop for God's sake, she didn't want to sit here explaining her training process.
"By being put under a stressful, breakable situation that causes pain, I'm learning how to slowly endure torture, how to fight through pain, and remain calm and collected in a situation like that. Something that, as an assassin, I'm going to be dealing with a lot. He's not just pushing me to be good, he's making sure that if I get put into a life or death situation, I'll be able to handle it." That was how it had been posed to her at least. It also didn't matter what it looked like on the outside, because, no matter what...no one in the House was going to understand. They were just going to see the bad things that her father did, the things that she complained about or cried about... It was actually very unfair, and it was her fault that the people in the House seemed to hate her father...Was she really such a bad daughter that she couldn't even show how amazing Papa was?
"Look, you can't say something's stupid when you don't even know what's going on." Shilo said. "It only sounds bad and looks bad because I'm not good at telling the whole story. Or I get upset and make it seem bad. But Papa is just making sure that bad things that happen in the future aren't going to effect me as badly as they would. Desensitization...I think that's what he called it."

</div>“That’s very nihilistic of you,” commented Rich, at Eddie’s statement about sacred fevers. “Applicable, though, under the circumstances I guess.” As Eddie continued, he leaned forward a little, listening. “Oh yeah, it’s amazing how much red tape people manage to put on completely ordinary stuff,” he said, nodding his agreement as the scruffy man expressed his distaste for being monitored. “I mean, even when I was real into all the darkweb stuff, there were people you had to go through, papers you had to sign...you’d think working outside the law would mean you didn’t have to worry about paperwork, but surprisingly nah. There’s still a crap ton of the stuff.” A pause, and Rich looked down the hallway, considering his options. He had an itchy feeling on the back of his neck that this was more than a dream, but he wasn’t really ready to seriously consider that option. Because the alternatives were either he was going completely nuts, or he really had stumbled into some kind of alternate dimension. The second option was as preferable as it was unbelievable, of course.

Nore started shooting arrows almost indiscriminately, having been so clear before about aiming for the snowballs and not Myrnin but now not seeming to follow those instructions at all. She fired numerous, too--far more than as if she were just accounting for the number of snowballs he had thrown. She got about four arrows in before there was so much snow in her face that she fell backward on one foot, body bent as she readjusted her arm and aimed straight for the vampire. As she released it into the air she raised her eyebrows high, twisting her face and flexing her arms and legs so that she could preserve the wacky position. No awareness of the bumbling tornado of arrows she had caused graced her expression. "Did I get any?" Myrnin easily dodged most of the arrows, giggling like this was a wonderful game. He didn't know if he'd expected Nore to actually aim for the snowballs or not, but this was about how he saw the outcome regardless. Now, he'd dodged most of them. She did get a few good shots in - whether she'd been aiming for him or not. One he swatted out of the air easily and a two others he broke mid-flight. Wooden projectiles weren't particularly deadly for him, just so long as Nore actually took them out of him if she did hit him in any way. He was hardly paying attention to if she'd hit a snowball and when he finally got a chance to check she decided to actually shoot at him. He swatted this arrow out of the air as well, catching it by the shaft and waving it between his fingers. "Nasty blighters," he said, amused. "Shoot themselves. Because I'm sure you didn't mean to shoot me. For old times sake and all that." He looked around at the ground. "You got four, I believe. Out of ... I think it was twelve? Perhaps out of eleven." "Huh," Nore muttered. "Coulda sworn it was more than that," she accused, as if she had checked herself and was dutifully calling him out. Still, no matter if she was confident or not about that fact, she lowered the bow in a way that said she was finished and checked how many arrows were left in the quiver. It was better to go back to throwing snowballs anyway. She didn't really have frustration with him winning all the time, she just saw the back and forth as a regular part of their friendship; she didn't intend her threats to be very threatening. "Why don't you try shooting me then?" she asked plainly, still holding the lowered bow in front of her. She waited for only a couple of seconds and then lifted it up, slipping it back around her person. "Just joking. I need a snack." Then came the usual motion of Nore patting her pockets, both of her pants and of her jacket. She looked for a moment as if she had triumphed when she explored her inner jacket pocket, but what came out with her hand was only an empty wrapper of fruit snacks.

</div> "Nihilistic? That's too nice of you." Eddie snarked with insincerity. The condition of the supposed dream between them was comparable getting the wrong phone number, promptly getting hung up on, and leaving yourself to think for the rest of the afternoon about it. Good thing you'll never see them again. While his rant continued he couldn't help but stand back on the sole of his feet, shifting the weight slowly over the course of the conversation. "Paperwork this, paperwork that, a real pain in the rear if you ask me. Good thing is there's always a back door to go though so to speak - not saying I would personally find myself putting "picklock extraordinaire" on my resume." He felt the words slip through him as did his career did so easily not that long ago. "Surprise for the guys with the tape there are some people who'd rather be anything but complacent with their actions. Who would have guessed?" As if Rich's words had thrown fireword at a dwindling fire, the grizzled man was all too willing to speak.

Nore turned her head at a familiar voice. And really, the sound of a dragon coming near wasn't difficult to decipher. She recoiled by instinct, both hands on her bow, having just extended it toward Myrnin. It wasn't typical behavior from the girl, but she would make an exception this time to back off. She made sure to creep toward the structure of the lodge. "Hey!" she called, then joked, "Down here!" She thankfully didn't decide to start new conflict by reaching for her arrows, but her knees were bent slightly and her head turning every once in a while. "Don't wreck my snowballs, okay?" was her request once she was certain the other blinker heard her heckling and would surely be coming closer. Her wrists still ached from the cuffs and she spent her time rubbing them.

“Did you come asking about my show too? Sorry, but you’re not invited.” Nore smirked, face turned halfway away from the dragon while she turned her thumb and forefinger into an L shape and adjusted her sunglasses with that one hand. Even if she weren’t blind, there was no saying whether or not Nore might be wearing sunglasses in the middle of winter. The satisfaction made her stand straighter as Chamomile avoided the snowball piles. If she has sensed wariness toward the bow and arrows she might have flashed them more, but at the moment the girl had forgotten about them. She bent one leg back, then swung it forward to splash Chamomile with a healthy coating of snow. “We don’t even get the seasons in the west,” she mourned, shrugging now with bent arms. “Just hot and hotter, right?” Her face finally turned up once the other blinker was close enough, expectant for her to somehow understand the environment and weather pattern of the United States.

for a brief moment there was silence. Then the bushes rustled from the left side, then they rustled more aggressively from the right side. In between the branches extending behind the tree were aggressively shaken, followed by silence. " Have a nice fall." Elliot could be herd from the bushes to the far left, after the brief period of silence. He sounded somewhat amused. Almost as if queued the bushes above the back of the tree rustled once again, this time enough for the resting snow to collapse. --cato phoenix mintedstar/fur Outside the lodge : Mini Arlo, Kid & Eli

Chamomile certainly didn't look any worse for wear, though he knew the House had a history of erasing wounds and scars obtained within it. "I'm glad you weren't hurt badly," he said. The damage could have been so much worse between both Hook and Nico. He didn't know what Hook's deal was, or where those powers had come from, but it was bad. Noctin didn't think he'd ever forget the feeling of a hand reaching inside his chest without actually breaking through.
At her question, however, he fell silent, the relieved smile drifting away as she asked about his world. "I'm... things have changed a little. Someone I knew before the war recently joined our group." Despite the news of a reunion, he didn't sound happy. His shoulders drooped, his gaze cast down to the floor. Just thinking about it made his heart ache. He could have laughed as she continued, saying that it wasn't possible he would die. It was true. He was cursed to continue living, despite everything.
--
"Film?" Noctin echoed, trying out the strange word. He nearly dropped the camera as the coat was tossed on him. Clumsily snagging it before it fell to the ground, he awkwardly placed the camera and loose film back on the counter, then put the coat on. It was very long on him, nearly brushing the ground. Distantly, he noted that it smelled vaguely dog-like. Hopefully the scent wouldn't cling when he blinked out. Still, it was immediately warm and very much appreciated. "This is good, thank you," he said, snuggling into it.
"You can send messages with these?" he asked, blinking in surprise. How? There was no paper. Did they write something on the box and then deliver it to the recipient? "And what's internet?" Perking up, he looked at the screen, taking a tiny step back as he caught sight of his reflection. "Woah!" he gasped, eyes wide as she took the picture. "That's us!" he exclaimed, excitement sparking in his chest as he looked to Eises and Rae.

Nore tucked her head into her jacket, allowing for it by gripping its collars and popping them up around her face. Her knees bent and she was frosted like a donut in less than a second. Then the girl shook like a dog, starting from the head and ending at her feet. The snow and ice drifted from her brown hair and back into the breeze. “Well ****,” she muttered, as if she had received a reply thrpugh the dragon’s silence. “It has been a while, hasn’t it?” She moved on though, smirking through the cold. She kept her hands at her collar and her head down, but started to turn back toward the building. It could have been that she didn’t want to get into a snowball fight with a dragon, but it primarily had to do with what she had just been complaining about to the vampire. “You don’t got food, do you? I need a snack so bad...” When she huffed, clouds of breath billowed from her mouth, trailing behind her as she marched determinedly.

Noct's cham
"As am I." Oblivious to the suspicion of the peculiar circumstances of the fight, the past was behind them was it not? The damage had been done, payback wouldn't do much good, it would be the best to recover. In her mind that is - it felt better than picking at an old wound, yet in reality she could only cast a somber glance at her feet as they both reminisced on what had happened in that particular blink. Moments of silence passed as she glanced up at Noctin, gaze uneasily shifting away from him for a brief moment. "Change is difficult, to say the very least." She let out with a curt nod, her words chosen cautiously as her former self had resurfaced for only just a moment. Such words had caused her mouth to dry as her thoughts went back to longing memories where things never changed. "Did they upset you?" She pressed on the subject as her beak made a slight clicking noise, the surfaces rubbing each other as the words echoed through the lodge.

"Welllll...." Arlo said slowly as she looked around, her gaze drifting around the snowy trees. In the forest room just after she'd picked up the necklace, she'd been able to locate the other blinkers easily by their energy. She wasn't really sure how her abilities worked though, and even if she could use them, all the trees around them plus the bright white of the snow would probably make it a little difficult to see the energy. "Maybe we could-" before she could finish, the bushes started to rustle. She raised another handful of snow as she glanced from side to side, following the sound, but not seeing the source of it. The girl had just started to step forward when she heard something above her and looked up, just in time to let out a yelp of surprise as a pile of snow was dumped on her head. "What the- where is he?!" she spluttered, trying not to laugh as she wiped the snow from her face.
