Hello! I saw Beauty and the Beast today with some friends (and it was really, really good; they added in more backstories and character development and the music and costumes were WONDERFUL) and then afterwards we walked around to the pet store, the Best Buy, and the Indigo. It was a lot of fun but also this was my last day to work on things before my cousins come over tomorrow so I am going to be really behind on Social Studies and writing, which is really nothing new.
How about you?

Huh, I should probably see that movie!
Same as yesterday. School day, got stuff done, played around on the Internet, played some Splatoon and Fire Emblem: Awakening. So I didn't really accomplish much. ,xD

My friends didn't really like it for whatever reason. *shrugs* I think they thought they could have done better with the dress, idk. I'm not really interested in Beauty and the Beast. If there was a live action Little Mermaid or Mulan (that wasn't completely inaccurate and didn't follow the original plot) then that'd be a whole other story.
I have two labs to finish, a portfolio to put together, and a resume to write. I'm gonna be busy this weekend. Yay...

Well, to each their own. The beginning scene I really liked, all the costumes and such were very pretty. I'm not normally interested in Beauty and the Beast either (I don't really get romance at all, so there were a few times where I was just going "???") but I loved the music, and they made the plot a lot more interesting since I felt there was less focus on the romance. I think they're making a live action Mulan, but it's a remake of the Disney Mulan so it is probably following the Disney plot (although I did hear they were getting rid of the love interest and replacing him with... a different love interest.... don't see why that must happen)
Good luck with all your homework!

Ok no the deal with the Mulan movie is that it sucks. They got rid of the love interest because they didn't want the original love interest to seem bisexual since in Disney he admired Mulan regardless of her gender whereas the new love interest hates her until she reveals that she's actually a woman and also they're making Mulan use "feminine martial arts" for whatever reason.
You don't even know how busy I was yesterday oh my god. It took me literally all day from eleven in the morning to ten at night to finish all my homework. I was like dead by the end of it.

Gross, seriously? I don't even really have words to describe how ridiculous that is. "Hates character x until he realizes she is a girl and then suddenly... romantic interest..." is a terrible thing and I thought we, as a society, had moved past that? Clearly not? Putting that idea in so that a character doesn't seem bisexual is very gross. Also, what are "feminine martial arts?" That makes no sense? Sigh, I really liked the original Disney Mulan movie, I don't want them to ruin this. (I have heard that the actual story is better, but I do not know where to find it.)
Oh, yikes. At least you got it done now? That is a lot of homework.
So last semester my bio teacher made us enter a contest for improving our environment and stuff so my group came up with a pretty lame idea but submitted it and we ended up being finalists? So now we have to defend an idea that I know is not practical and is just a waste of time, but we get prize money if we do well. We have to speak in front of a panel of judges and everything. The general consensus is "I had no idea we would get this far what do we do."
|

|
Post by αυяσяα ησx on Mar 28, 2017 23:58:43 GMT -5
I honestly have no idea what "feminine martial arts" is and all the stuff they're planning isn't really encouraging me to watch it. I loved Disney Mulan too, and I remember reading up on the original story of Mulan, but I don't remember anything about it. For all I know, me reading that could have been a dream and the story of Mulan is actually just a myth that was never truly recorded.
I don't think my teachers are going to give us a lot of homework this week thank god, because we have spring break next week. Fingers crossed. I already know I don't have anything for Japanese over the break.
Omg, that sounds both entertaining and annoying. It also sounds like something that I would somehow manage to accidentally do. What was your idea?

Post by fuzzytail333 on Mar 29, 2017 12:49:30 GMT -5
I really hope it doesn't actually end up being like that. I'll see if I can find the original story of Mulan somewhere? Maybe a summary, because I still have to do a lot of work that I didn't do over the past few days because cousins.
That's good! Have fun on break! Even if you do have some homework you can probably get it done. How long is your break?
I didn't actually think we would get this far because I am fairly sure our idea has practically zero practical application. The idea was to replace the disposable plates we use in the cafeteria for lunches with reusable, washable ones. The problem here is that it would be a lot more work (we have a deposit and everything so that people will return the plates) and the culinary arts students would hate us because they'd have to wash all of the dishes, and about 200 students eat in the cafeteria each day which means that there are a lot of plates that need washing. It doesn't really improve the environment all that much because what we save in not disposing plates is made up for with all the dish soap we'd be using. I really don't know how that counts as a finalist-level idea. There is no way I am going to implement it. I'm just going for the prize money because I could use it. I don't know what I'm doing!

Hi, I'm here. :3
...That is a really stupid reason to change a character. He hates her until he finds out she's a girl. What the frick. That's freaking stupid. "I hate you boiiii oh wait you're a girl? ...ohohoooo~." stupid.
A couple of my teachers for my homeschool co-op thing gave me and the rest of the people in the classes a bunch of homework. Like, "Oh, you have a break? Well, here's a bunch of extra work so you don't have a break. Say good-bye to you hopes and dreams!" ...Nah, I'm over-exaggerating. It's not THAT much more than usual, and I'm nearly done with it anyway. xP BUT STILL C'MON WHY
Gosh, good luck, Fuzzy. o-o I hope you guys win! ...But yeah, that's not really helping the environment. xD
Also, I'm going to the doctor tomorrow! Yaayy...!
also my dragon cave eggs died. weyll, crap. whatever. i replaced them so oh well!

It really is a very bad reason to change a character and is also pretty weak characterization in general, I think. It's overused and generally gross and sexist. (Especially considering the character bio says he sees Mulan as a threat when she's disguised, but apparently that can be overlooked if she's a girl? Why?)
The entire point of having a break is that you don't have to work a lot, though?? That's pretty unfair. I'm very behind on my social studies (I want to get it done before I leave on by band trip near the middle/end of April) and I have to write a letter on arctic council stuff and I don't care it's so boring
I don't really want to win, because then we're supposed to implement the idea and the idea is useless. Luckily I am not a very dynamic speaker and I'm sure that there are people out there with better ideas. Even if I get last place I still get a fairly decent amount of prize money, so I don't really care all that much.
What a coincidence, I went to the doctor today! I got lectured for screen time and lack of exercise (which was no more than I expected) and I also panicked a bit when I was getting my blood pressure taken (for some reason I have a Problem with veins and can't really stand hearing my own heartbeat) but other than that it was alright. I have gained weight, which is good, because in 2010 I was in the first percentile for my age and that is quite bad.

The entire movie is just a horrible idea and I'm sure that's why it isn't getting as much publicity. There was no reason to completely change that aspect of the plot other than the fact that the producers or whoever are sexist, homophobic people. (Another movie I'm disappointed in is Ghost in the Shell. Was it so hard to find an Asian woman to play the Asian main character????)
Aw, that's so not cool, but I get it. I got so much homework over winter break. Apparently teachers have a certain amount of homework they have to give every month. I, surprisingly, don't have much to do this spring break, but I do have to write a speech that somehow allows me to defend the actions of a man who murdered and tortured thousands of people???? I have no idea how I'm going to manage that. *sighh*
Eh, in any case, at least you get to say that you became a finalist for something. You don't need to give details lol. I think it's cool, but ultimately, idk what the judge people were thinking bc it's not a very logical idea if you try to actually utilize it.

Yes, I've heard a lot about Ghost in the Shell, and whenever I see an ad for it it irritates me now. I mean, as you know, there are absolutely zero Asian female actors out there, it would be Impossible, let's just use a white woman instead (this is sarcasm, I think it's obvious, but I feel like I should clarify)
Apparently my teachers aren't held to that standard, I guess? I pretty much never get homework (although I usually complete my work in class and also have CALM, which stands for career and life management, and is pretty much just a class to do homework or goof off with friends.) I don't see why you have to defend someone like that in a speech? That's generally pretty awful? I get the whole ~understand multiple points of view~ thing but... murder and torture is really not something that should be respected?
Yeah, it will look very good on my resume, I'm sure. My mom works for the water department and she asked around about the project, apparently sometimes they don't get very good entries in because the overall selection is pretty bad. I get the feeling that's what happened here, because our idea is pretty bad.

Yup, obviously. There was,,,, obviously,,,, no Asian women fit for the role,,,,,,, absolutely not. I read something somewhere about how she's white because she has,,, an Asian,,,, spirit,,,,,,,,, and it was just like???? What?????? I don't have much against Scarlett Johansson (mostly on the basis that I'm a DCU fan through and through and I've never watched any Marvel movies ever) but like come on.
Where are you from again? The laws are probably completely different since we obviously live in completely different places. I wish I could have little to no homework, but alas, American education laws. It could be worse though. My school is a lot more chill than other schools, I think, and a lot cleaner. Yay for being so liberal.
Yeah, I'd bet. Very few people actually care for the environment that much, so a lot of people just put down things that make no sense probably. There wouldn't be a lot of good options to choose from in that case.

... what on earth is an "Asian spirit"???? That is... not... how things work... I'm not very invested in celebrities in general so I don't know much about her (although I have seen Marvel movies) but honestly taking a role that should belong to an Asian woman is just ridiculous. Especially since the majority of content consists mostly of white people, it's not like she's lacking opportunities. (Whereas an Asian woman in a lead role is not common in Western media.... so you should not hire a white woman for the role of an Asian woman... this should be common sense.)
I'm from Canada! Specifically, Alberta. I feel like that is vague enough to not be very personal, and education is a province-controlled thing so it's probably different for different parts of Canada. I also think I've been constantly getting teachers who assign little to no homework, because a lot of my friends have had way more homework. I am relieved but also concerned because I have no work ethic and no way to develop it. I don't think there is a law assigning a certain amount of homework here?
Yes and the problem is that we had to come up with an original idea that was practical to put into use, and most general ideas were taken or not very original. This was initially for marks, and I wanted a high grade, so I think we did the best that we could even if it wasn't the most practical idea. (I feel like our mark should have been higher now that we've found out we're finalists, but it would make no difference, probably, since that course is over.)

Yeahh I'm not invested in celebrities either. I don't really get being obsessed with them, but then, I'm always obsessed with fictional characters. In any case, there are likely plenty of Asian women that would love an opportunity for a big break. I know there was a really good actress that knew martial arts or something that people preferred, but I can't remember her name.
That's what I thought! I can't believe I remembered that. Laws here are too complicated for me, but most things are too complicated for me to understand. Like politics. And economic systems. On the topic of work ethic, I had little to no work ethic last semester because I've never had to actually study to get good grades before. Which meant I totally crashed. My grades totally suffered. It'll be horrible, but everybody has something of a "crash" period that gets them motivated to do better. If you don't have a crash period, then, uhh, just good luck.
Becoming a finalist should definitely have gotten you a higher mark, even if it isn't a practical idea. That still should mean a lot.
Oh yeah, and about me having to write a speech defending a murderer: it's for my mock trial. I have to pretend to be the guy who's on trial, and what he did was murder and torture thousands of people. Somehow, I have to find a way to twist that into a necessity. There is, of course, prosecuting witnesses and a prosecuting attorney, and I totally don't expect to win, but I have to at least be convincing.

I'm usually more comfortable invested in fictional characters because they're not real people and they don't have real emotions, whereas celebrities are real people and it can be really creepy. Especially when people write fanfics about real people-- that really creeps me out, a lot. They're real people! They're not characters! They have lives and emotions and all and it's generally quite creepy.
I'm surprised you remembered that! It has been a very long time. I really don't get politics at all either, and don't really have a lot of strong opinions other than "give people human rights" and I'm also scared of arguing with people over politics (especially with family) so I generally avoid mentioning it. I have no work ethic, because I also don't have to study to get good grades, but I have been trying to put in a little more effort because I am waiting for my crash. My dad crashed in university and nearly dropped out so I'm expecting that's when I'm going to crash as well, so I am trying to make that as minimal as possible.
I guess my teacher didn't anticipate we'd be finalists. Either way, it shouldn't make a difference for me since I'm taking a grade twelve level biology course which the university would be looking at in place of my grade eleven biology.
Ohh, I see. I guess you'd probably have to go the route of "human rights don't matter and this was necessary for the economy/ the greater good of the people/ etc." Good luck!

Same, same. Fans of celebrities tend to be wayyy too pushy and it's so bad, honestly?? They act like they're obligated to know about their personal lives.
I don't like getting involved in politics because it gets exhausting. I don't get how my friends can do it all the time. They're super into politics and stuff like that, whereas I'm more just like "human rights" but I don't get too into the details. Bright side about crash period is it teaches you to study.
Oh, yeah, then I guess it doesn't matter. Either way, you still have good enough credentials, especially with both being a finalist and taking a twelfth grade biology course.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. Thanks!

I feel like a lot of time fans of celebrities just seem to forget that they're actual people. I understand that there's a certain amount of publicity that is to be expected as a celebrity but honestly some people take it way too far. They're still humans! Let them have personal lives!
My friends hardly ever discuss politics, thankfully. When we do it's mostly complaining about something that we all agree on, so there's not really a lot of debate. Yes, that is a good thing about the crash period. I've been trying to learn how to study and all I really need is to look over the notes a couple of times in order to ensure I've memorized everything. I really don't know of any other way.
Yeah, and there's not really a lot that the teacher can do about it, and I don't think it would influence my mark much anyways. Still, I think someone in my class marked it really low when we were doing peer editing and I feel like that was unjustified. The rubric was pretty difficult to get marked high on but I think we did better than whatever it was we were given. I feel like it was somewhere in the forties but then again that might have been what I'd marked someone's idea as.
Honestly I've been feeling sort of like I want to post up my old fanfiction on here in the fanfic section for fun and whatnot. The main problem is that I am aware (skimming over it) that it is not at all to my standards and there is no way I am going to put in the effort to rewrite it. Also, a lot of it sets up for the sequels that I am never going to write and, again, I am not going to put in the effort to get rid of those parts. At the same time, I want attention and acknowledgement and also maybe talking to some new writer people on here, so I don't really know what to do.

I know next to nothing about celebrities. I don't care enough. Like, good job playing that character in that movie, but I don't really need to know about their lives. I have enough problems with my life. xD Some/most(?) of 'em don't seem like people I'd want to be friends with, anyway. I feel bad for them when they're attacked by rabid fans (and celebrity-news people, but that's actually the same thing), though. My family talks about politics a lot, especially when eating dinner. It's cool to listen in to it, but I don't understand most of it, and I'm honestly not very good at listening to people speak words. My brain just zones out for no reason. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ You're talking about Deep Blue Eyes, right? I think you should post it here! I don't remember that much of it, but I remember that it was good and I liked it. My doctor suggested that I get some vaccine called "Gardasil 9" or whatever to protect against HPV, but I'm not going to do anything to get HPV because that's stupid, so I said "maybe later." She sent me home with a pamphlet explaining the disease and the vaccine. I was thinking that maybe I should get the vaccine so the doctors would stop asking me about it (because they've mentioned getting vaccinated for that for a few years now), but then I read the pamphlet. It says that the side effects are "pain, swelling, redness, itching, bruising, bleeding, and a lump where [the] child got the shot, headache, fever, nausea, and dizziness." It also said that I'll have to stay there for 15 additional minutes while sitting or lying down, because I could faint. And so I decided "heck no, screw this," because I don't particularly like any of those side effects. So I'll just have to endure a few more years of them asking me about it. Oh, well.

I agree. I don't see why people obsess over the lives of celebrities. Just... worry about your own life? That's my number one concern if everything in my life ever works out perfectly somehow and I become a famous author, because being famous has really got to suck sometimes.
I am also very terrible at listening to people speak words. That's why I always hate it when a friend calls me in order to plan things, because I need to see things written down and I forget everything in about five minutes. I also have pretty bad hearing (probably due to the fact I sit in a room with people playing instruments loudly for an hour and a half each day... I think it's over the range of decibels that causes hearing loss) and I have to keep asking people to repeat themselves and it's so difficult, just text me or something.
Yeah, that one! I am really debating it. I don't know how well the coding is going to transfer or if people will like it or anything, since I don't know my competition all that well, but no harm in trying right? I'll probably do that sometime later, eventually.
Oh, I remember that one. It was required for me in grade 5, I think, along with the hepatitis vaccine. It wasn't required for boys but then they changed the rules so they had to get it in grade 9 along with the hepatitis vaccine again. I guess since you don't go to public school you don't have to deal with the mandatory vaccines. Even though you're probably not going to be doing anything to get it, I still think it's important to get the vaccine because it really can't hurt to be extra protected against diseases, I think. The side effects sound awful but they're kind of like the "may contain nuts" disclaimer in the sense that they're not likely to happen but they need to warn you in case they do. I was fine after I got the vaccine, and most people could leave right after getting it. (I was an exception because I have allergies and they needed to make sure I wouldn't get a reaction, which is ridiculous.) I did get sick after some vaccines but that had nothing to do with the actual vaccine and more with my constant problem of freaking out until I get sick. Anyways you should probably get them eventually, because vaccines are important, even though I sound hypocritical because I haven't gotten a vaccine since grade 9 even though I know I should.

Oh, did you save the art and stuff? o:
Eh, I guess. Still, I don't want to risk being dizzy or nauseous, because it sucks. Also, I didn't realize that it's required. I guess I'm special because I'm homeschooled. 8D Or maybe it's only required in Canada? I dunno.
Also, my mouse wouldn't respond earlier. I got confused for a minute, but then I looked at the bottom. There was a piece of paper with a troll face on it taped on the bottom of my mouse. My mom did it because it's April Fools Day. I tried to get revenge by doing the same thing to her mouse, but she expected me to do that, so she wasn't really surprised. xD

Yes, and their voices are all distorted as well! It's really terrible and I can never understand what people are saying. Texting exists for a reason.
I think I did? I think I saved all the banners and stuff when I heard the forums were going down. I also think I saved the entire threat as a webpage so I could always go through all the old conversations (this being in a time when I thought everyone was gone forever.) Soo I could probably put those up again, but I don't want to have any issues with people not putting up their art so if I haven't talked to a person in years I probably won't put their banner back up. I think you made one, so I could put that one back up again if you'd like!
Yeah, I guess that makes sense. It's required here and I think it's a provincial thing, so it might be because you're homeschooled or it might be just a Canadian/Albertan thing. I'm not really sure.
A classic yet excellent prank! I didn't do anything for April Fools today since it's a Saturday and all. I've only done two pranks in my life, I think? One year in the weeks leading up to April Fools I made an account on a website my brother went on and followed him around, requesting to be his friend. (This being the times where we absolutely could not talk to people we did not know on the internet.) He got pretty creeped out about it and I revealed it on April Fools day, and it was quite entertaining. Another time, (not an April Fools prank) my brother and I managed to convince my brother that there was some kid at school who was mean to us named Twas. In reality, my brother had this homework assignment he had to complete every Friday (called This Week At School, abbreviated to TWAS) that he was complaining about when my grandma asked why he was complaining about this Twas kid. It lasted for months, until she told my mom about it and she made us confess that it wasn't real. Best unintentional prank I've ever pulled.

Yeah, I prefer texting, or just talking like this. I mostly prefer the latter. There's a place where you can post stuff from the old forums! Conversations probably count! Here: wcrpforums.com/board/13/wcf-memories Not sure if you saw it yet. I'm mentioning it just in case you haven't. c: And about the banner... I dunno. You can use it if you want, though I might cringe when I see it. But wait, did I even make a banner? I know I made a divider, but I'm not sure about a banner. Haha! Nice. XD So the Twas thing--did you intentionally convince him or was it an accident? Also, a few years back, my dad pulled a prank (pretty sure it wasn't April Fools) where he molded a wet toilet paper tube into something resembling poop and he left it either on the bathroom floor or the toilet seat (forget which). It was pretty funny, so I've been using that prank for a few years--not frequently, just sometimes. I think today was the first time I actually did it on April Fools Day. My brother wasn't fooled or surprised when I did that today. xD

Talking like this is preferable, I agree. I'm mostly thinking of a couple of nights ago when a friend called me to discuss going to a dinner theater thing and I had to ask permission from my parents and if they could drive me so really talking on the phone was a horrible idea. I think she prefers talking on the phone but :/
Yes, I've seen that! I don't know how to describe what I've saved, it's one of my files but when I open it it's a webpage. I forget how I saved it, but it was the main method of saving threads on the old forums. I don't know if I can post it here because I don't know exactly how it works. You made a divider and a banner, I think! The banner was Flower(blaze? I think it was Flowerblaze?) It is pretty good!
My brother and I improvised the entire Twas thing and completely convinced my grandma. She was apparently considering calling the school about it, which I am very grateful that she didn't do because that would have been very bad for us. And that sounds like a cool prank! I think the main problem is that nobody in my house would be very fazed because they'd think it was just cat poop. It does happen, unfortunately.

I'm going through the old conversations on the thread. We were all a lot more active then. I... also posted multiple chapters a day? How did I do that?? It takes me multiple hours to write things now.
Edit: I once wrote six chapters in one day. Who was I? What happened? I think that's something like six thousand words in one day. How.
Edit 2: Over seven thousand words. I can't believe this. I only wrote 859 words today. What happened to me?

Hi I was at a friend's house all day so I didn't see any of this lol.
You wrote so much??? How?????? Sometimes I can write 2000 words in a day and sometimes I write like a sentence and give up. (Completely disregarding the fact that within a year I wrote like 45k words of this one thing) Honestly how do you even remember all that? Amazing.
Let's not even talk about all the stuff I did. God it was bad. So bad. I'm a lot better at writing now don't worry! But dear god... I still laugh at all the memes though, simply because they were so stupid. Lionblaze being obsessed with coffee... Who even came up with that? (I lowkey miss all the spoofs and stuff and seeing all those popular spoof writers having fun and making more)

It's alright!!
I honestly have no idea how I wrote so much. I think the maximum I've ever done in a day in the past few years was 4000? Right now I am not doing anything because I have to do this social studies thing and also have to write and can't decide which one I want to do less so I have been procrastinating. Also, I haven't remembered all that, I just looked through the webpages that I saved! It kind of upset me a bit because I can see myself writing seven thousand words a day... and then later once I started school again I just didn't post at all for months... that was a difficult time for me, so it's kind of weird seeing it like this. I wrote the entire 60k fanfiction in two months.
I have been looking through the webpages and we were all pretty awful. I am also a lot better at writing now! I can barely read through the old fanfic. I think that in a way posting something that I KNOW is bad is probably good for me, since I can't show anyone the stuff that I think is good. If I can post something like that up here again, why can't I show people something that I am kind of proud of? Also a lot of people liked the story and I still get the occasional comment or something up on Wattpad where I posted it a couple of years ago.
Oh no, the warriors memes. I don't even remember any of them but I'm sure they were awful, in a good way. I was far too invested in myself to pay attention to them, I think. The spoofs were hilarious! I loved them a lot and tried to make one myself but I am not a funny person so it didn't work out well.
