Hello there! I'm ❴ ғα∂ιηg ✦ яεαℓιтү ❵ but please, call me A.M. or Aaron! This is basically just a place for us writers to discuss our writing, and we'll have a weekly question for us to discuss as well as perhaps a poll here and there if I decide not to be lazy. The question will be posted every Wednesday and if you have an idea/suggestion for one, please, share it! The whole idea for this weekly question is for us to do some self-reflection as writers as well as to learn how others go about with their writing process in hopes of learning new things - both from ourselves or others! -- ✎ questions! Here you will find the weekly questions!

Alright. So, this has to be Will C. Morgen, my main OC. I've used her for both fan fictions (The Game, anyone?) and I'm working on a non-fan fiction story for her as well. I fell in love with her character, maybe because how she was created. I literally dreamed her up. The story came to me, fully and completely (up to about what would be mid-way through book 2), in a dream. She was me, in a sense, and I gave her the name Will C. Morgan in my dream. She is my most well developed character because of how much time I've poured into her story. She has three stories, all so different and unique that I can't pick them apart and compare them. So, I'll just do the fan fiction version. She started out, in the fan fiction, as a What-if for my story. It was as simple as: What if Will C. Morgen, on her way out of town, had taken the path that went left instead of right? I wanted to know what would happen if I tore away her whole future. I wanted to break her, still have her be Will C. Morgen, but insane and evil. So: What if Will C. Morgen was evil? From that, her past changed as well, her 'father' become adopted and the biggest factor to the clans destruction and Will's insanity. I invented Mixed Blood, a curse and a power, that would inflict her. (It's called Mixed Blood when the character is created by two mythical cats. They gain extra powers, but also go insane.) I created her power, which gave her a sense of immortality, and her 'sisters'. I split and destroyed her personality with that power, creating Marick and Oliva. The inspiration for this split was the series Morganville Vampires. I used the personalities of the characters of Myrnin and Oliver in Marick and Oliva. They affected Will's personality, because I started jumping far into the future with her timeline and far into the past, back to her parents. What would happen when her wayward personalities became one again? How would that affect Will? What about her 'father' Rattlesnake? Should there ever be a confrontation between them? And what about the whole 'evil Will' thing? I added the fight between herself and her insanity. Her war with her own personalities and how to get them back. How to stop the progress of Mixed Blood and, the main plot, how to deal with the cats she had harmed. She destroyed lives, how could she deal with that? It has taken me...3 years or so, to get to this point. Will is the most detailed and intricate character, who I feel my writing abilities need to grow just to be able to accommodate her.

I'd say my most developed character is Sunstar from Seeing the World in Black and Gold Spoiler for those who haven't read the fic all the way He started as an only kit because his mother and father are older than most. He had one main friend who he grew up with and stood up for. He had to care for an orphan with a mental illness while being bullied by older apprentices. After being in battle, Sunstar thought he saw his friend kill his parents after being killed by a Shadowclan warrior. He developed PTSD and started driving everyone away. He became a lot angrier and depressed. He started hallucinating and he became a dictator to his clan. After killing his friend, he realized he had always loved him. He was captured by old clanmates and imprisoned. He snuck away one night and killed himself in a Romeo and Juliet situation to be with his friend and true mate. I always listen to music from Halsey and Melanie martinez and music from Hamilton the musical to get in the minds of the characters. Sunstar is a mix of qualities I hated in the people I love while also having a bit of me. Envy, and sadness and angry were qualities of people that I hated. Along with a mental illness like PTSD and abandonment issues. And it took at least a year to complete his full story

In my newest fan Fic, the most developed character is called Moon____ She grows and learns how to be a great warrior. She knows she isn't a genius. Yet, she knows less than she thinks she does. In the story you can see her grow and mature, struggling to keep her head on her shoulders as shocking news is revealed. A secret that she and her best friend know. It puts Silvermint in terrible danger, as cats will easily judge her for this. Moon____ is shocked when the secret is revealed and has no idea what to do about it. It could totally wreck the relationship between her, Silvermint, and Cindersoot.
Don't ask questions as I haven't even posted anything besides the prologue.
I read a book and fell in love with the plot. I knew I had to write it down with my own characters, tweaking it as I went along. By now, I've changed it so much that you wouldn't even recognize it. I dreamed up the characters, added some mystery, romance, action, fear, and suspense to the story. Moon was one of the great characters that latches on to my own emotions and drags them into the story. She acts almost exactly the way I behave, have the same reactions as me.

The first that comes to mind is Cobalt though he doesn't even have a story or backstory or anything he's just the one who talks to me most
Probably Fern from Demarc tbh. Or after all the work I've put into her, Pepper maybe?

*chuckles* Deal.
Okay, so this is for my series, The Game. It's from the POV of three different cats. It's going to be mainly romance, with some fantasy thrown in.
Rattlesnake is the leader of a band of rogues he can't control and who attack cats for food, shelter, and anything else they want. Rattlesnake is seen as a distant, evil cat to all the local rogues and loners. Kite is a loner who lives with her mother and two brother in a barn. They live on the edge of Rattlesnake's borders and think themselves safe. That is until a group of rogues attack Kite's two brothers when they are out hunting and they are nearly killed. Kite vows to bring down Rattlesnake and joins his group to kill him. But, slowly, she finds herself understanding him and falling in love with him. Rattlesnake has always known of her divided loyalty and secretly visits her old farm and heals her brother. But unable to escape the group, Kite knows none of this. She becomes more interwoven with the lives of Rattlesnake's group. Then comes Dream. The perfect deputy for the group. He can bring them all together and stop the attacks. Kite thinks that Rattlesnake will finally be able to set aside some of his time for her. But she slowly starts to notice how close the two are getting and one day, when she finally tells Rattlesnake how she feels, she's told that he has never shared her feelings. I haven't decided the name of the cat, but he's there for her after the rejection. She doesn't leave the group, though, not yet. Maybe she can find love with this new cat, she thinks. She takes the ritual that will make her a paranormal (a ritual which gives you invincibility and a couple of other powers. A side affect is you can't have kits). But after this, she finds out she's pregnant, which should be impossible. Turns out this ritual was preformed on both her and the unborn kit/s (of her and mystery cat. Though later she will claim the kit's father is Rattlesnake). She has no idea what affect that might have on them, so she runs away before they are born, not wanting any harm to come to them from the few cats who still remain distrustful of these powers. It's a complicated love triangle (Rattlesnake loves Dream, Kite loves Rattlesnake ect.) and has a lot of powered cats in it as well. It ends about there. Later we find out that the only surviving kit is Will C. Morgen. But that's a different fan fiction/comic.

But that's a different fan fiction/comic. my first thought was tigerstar & scourge meets squirrelflight and her boy drama tbh so it seems like you're throwing two cliches together which I'm usually not a fan of writing personally but if you like doing that go for it! My second thought is it sounds interesting with adding the paranormal twist in, I'd reccomend keeping that part hidden and having it be a surprise (originally doesn't know about it but later finds out and wants it) to spice it up a bit but in the end its your story and you're the writer so do as you please Overall I think while the concepts may not be the most original mashing them is and of course the writing will be (Sorry if this is too blunt I'm known for doing that)

Nope, no problem. I'm known, at least to myself, for writing cliches and giving them new twists. Writing a summery is a little harder than writing the book, I think. XD I'm not even half proud of what summery. I can't capture the drama or the interesting fantasy things as well. The whole paranormal thing is going to be a big puzzle and secret. It's very complicated, so I have to let little parts of it be relieved in stages. Kite will have no ideas about it for a long time, as it's a new power at the time of the story. Later, after the Feline War, it becomes something everyone knows about. As you said, the writing will be. XD I just like reworking those old concepts so that they work better than 'squirrelflight and her boy drama'. Thanks for the criticism. You're fine.

*rubs hands together* Never seen how wild my writing gets? I'm still working on making it coherent for others. XD But I need to stop trying to hint at things and state it bluntly. That's why a few things where confusing in my first fic, Mortality. I'm also working on a comic, called Poisoning the Sea, which is also for The Game. Hopefully, as soon as I start writing the stories out of order and finish everything it will make sense.

hecc this looks p cool
my most well developed character is probably chaotic vampire (a fan character for a fandom called danger days) for some various rps and stories. she's kinda old i guess, starting out as a kinda not self insert but at the same time kinda was (i want to die remembering her early stages oh my g od they were bad) before really evolving and eventually blossoming into a thing of her own. her look has changed so much since i first came up with her, and she's now an ironically edgy (and she knows it and wears that badge proudly), sassy and sarcastic gal full of spunk and personality.
i do not have a set backstory for her, but the basics of what i have for her right now are that once upon a time, she was a battery city citizen, working as a camerawoman for the daily news. she escaped by the skin of her teeth, quickly being taken under a friendly zonerunner's arm. they become close and a couple years later the zonerunner dies (is ghosted), leaving chaotic a loner. now she decides she likes being alone because she is a sensitive person who gets attached way too easily to things, and it'll be better for her if she just kept her distance, which in different plots causes problems. i like to keep her 'sp3cial!!1!!' in that she knows the killjoys but doesn't like, crush on any of them lol if anything, in some plots she actually helps them hook up
i do not currently have a published fanfiction with her as the sole main character, i have some various plots but undecided on which one to do. but even if i do decide on a plot i really need to work on finishing up some of the other stories that have been on my to update list, as that list has grown rather long...

You disappear for a day, and look at all the wonderful things that have happened! I've loved reading about everyone's characters! As for my most developed character... man, that's a tough one. It'd be between Swift and Otto, though. And now you have to listen to me ramble about them, because you have invited me to do my favourite thing in the world - talk about my characters XD
Firstly, Swift. Her full name is Swifteyes the Hunter, and she is a genetically engineered wold, bred for war in order to reduce the number of human lives lost in battle. Her story takes place in the not too distant future, where her country has fallen into chaos. The front line is at her doorstep, and she will do anything to defend her pack. There are two sides to Swift's personality, split effectively into 'before' and 'after'. She grew up believing that the ideology of her handlers was correct, and it was the only thing that was correct. She was proud, fierce, and loyal to a fault, confident of who she was and her place in the world. She was bred for one specific purpose - to lead - and she did a remarkable job of it, and rose quickly through the ranks, something not all the older wolves, and many of their human handlers, approved of. Yet there was no denying her skill and devotion. That was, until her mother died. It broke her. She became fixated on the idea that her mother was murdered by their handlers, her beliefs quickly becoming a dangerous obsession. Her desire to find the truth turned almost everyone against her, and the only solution was to go rogue, turning her fangs against those she was born to protect. Her story is a tragic one. She is my oldest character who is still in use, and I love her to bits. I have broken her and cobbled her back together, and as a result she suffers extreme PTSD. It's a god thing her pack mates have her back. She has come so far from simply being the alphas' mate - I really began to develop her after I decided she should be the focus of the story. I took the traits I had assigned her and exploited them until she was dangerous, volatile and likely to snap. Her backstory came from wondering just what had broken her. It is a fall from grace, in a way, a legendary soldier falling to pieces after loosing everything that ever mattered to her. I suppose, in a way, she comes from the question 'what if everything you were fighting for... was wrong?' There's a lot more to her, from fighting with her sister for dominance, to falling in love with someone equally as stubborn as she is. Eventually, she resorts to rampaging across the country, searching for anyone who might have information regarding her mothers' death, until she is eventually hunted down by her successor, Silver, and her old handler, Alex. After she proves too much for them to handle, her sister, Maelstrom (who has never forgiven her for being the favoured pup) is sent to hunt her. And that shatters what little sanity she has left.
And then there's Otto, my poor, angry, violent baby. He is, in a way, everything I hate about myself, amplified by ten. He gets my short temper, scowl, ability to hold grudges, and the inability to socialise. He, too, has a complicated backstory, beginning with being abandoned by his mother before being recruited into an underground business known as the Death Trade, which is exactly as is sounds. He is a weapon, made to be used, and his emotional instability is exploited by his employer. But he is very, very good at his job. A part time assassin and a part time treasure hunter, he spends his spare time trawling through history and selling valuable items to deathly third parties, for a sizeable fee. There's a lot of moping, some self-hate, and far too much drinking to be even remotely healthy, but he's part the point of no return. Despite his dark past, he has a very strict code of honour, that only he seems to understand, but nevertheless, it is never broken. Well, only once, and he still beats himself up over it. Self preservation skills are pretty much zero - he goes looking for trouble, often relying on physical pain to stop the emotional stuff to tear himself apart. His way of coping is heavily reliant on consuming large amounts of strong liquor, but when that doesn't work, he writes everything down in the journal he carries with him at all times. He doesn't eat well, and as a result is too skinny for his age and height - he goes through stages of eating next to nothing then stuffing his face with whatever is in reach - and he's one of those people who can eat like a pig and never gain any wright (his reasoning is that adrenaline burns calories). If things had been different, be probably would have been easygoing and laid back, with a sharp sense of humour, although sometimes that does shine through, and would probably have a degree in archaeology or something. He hates being touched, especially from behind, and refuses to sleep on his back, no matter how uncomfortable it gets. He likes to wander, as well. He's a bit of a mess, really. As for his story - Abandoned by his mother, trains as an assassin and becomes a small time their, gets beat up a lot - in a lot of unsavoury ways that aren't really forum appropriate and leave mental scars he will never recover from - runs out on his job, leaving behind a very disgruntled girlfriend, gets arrested, is bailed out by royalty, spends the next year trekking across he desert before returning 'home'. He's still pining for his ex, and she for him, but we're yet to see if that pans out, especially since she's engaged to someone else... He does punch said finance in the face at one point, though.
I don't like to say the inspiration for my characters, as they've come so far that I no longer consider them to be 'inspired' by anything.
And if you read all of that, I am duly impressed.

-mint I can't really help with the romance plots cuz I suck at those but if you can pull it off go for it. I mean write it how it makes sense but make sure to take a step back every once in a while usually for change in character motive this large, I like to make a physical, hand-drawn (or stickynoted) chart of their emotions/feelings/motives per chapter. That way you can be sure not to have things move too quickly/slowly and also add in little blips of more love/hatred depending on the events of the scene. It makes it more realistic and more intense for the reader (as well as just making it easier to understand what you're trying to do in both an obvious yet subtle way, as I'm guessing is what you're going to try and pull off?)

Well I really don't want to talk about Shadowface since all I seem to talk/write about is Shadowface but she is hands down the most developed character I have. I think it's partly because of how long I've spent time with her.
The first time the idea of Shadowface came to me was thanks to an encounter in a pets store. I saw a tortoiseshell chimera cat with these vibrant green eyes. I had never seen anything like it, and a few years later when I joined the forums I made my username "Shadowface" in honor of the cat.
I role played as Shadowface for a few years and developed her as a strong, independent she-cat with a nasty stubborn streak and a mysterious past. It wasn't until a few years into role playing that a friend of mine asked about her story, and that's where curse came from.
But from 2013 until now I've realized that my stories could become original works with humans, so Shadowface became Itzala Blackmore. Itzala because it means "shadow" in basque. And Blackmore because of her families dark coal colored hair.
She didn't come out of nothing complicated. It was basically just a lot of writing with her character and getting a feel for her personality along with her limits as both a moral being and a cat or human. Throwing your characters into different situations with different characters to interact with is the best way to flush out a character.
I guess with a few years of role playing and a almost 500 page novel that took three years to nearly complete, you would learn quite a bit.
Yep, I know, very boring. ^^' I'd rather talk about my lesser developed characters that I haven't spent as much time with but were a lot more interesting to create.
