Nettlepatch shook his head, "No, we just hunted like normal. We didn't know anything was wrong until they didn't return to our meeting spot. Jadefeather and Whitesun's daughter Hawkpaw was with us. I can't imagine how she must be feeling right now."

"We'll see what Lightningstar says first." Ghostscreech said, turning away from the border and making a start back to camp. He gave Frostmoon a reassuring look though, "I'll talk to him when we get back. Nettlepatch, Ravenshade, I want you two to come with me to explain everything that happened, okay?"
(We can go back to ThunderClan now)

Frigidshard picked up his pace, his demeanor more solemn now that he knew what they had come this way to do. "Are we just going to waltz into Shadowclan territory, or are we going to wait for a patrol to come find us?"

Spiderbite actually slowed when he reached the border. He was always nervous when crossing the thunderpath, even when going to the Moonstone. "Uh...is there a way to cross without...running over it? I don't want to wait. We're gonna go straight to their camp." He swallowed tightly. Even if I don't know where it is.

"I dunno, you're the medicine cat! I've never been in another clan's territory." Frigidshard remarked, looking around for any alternative ways to cross. He flinched as a monster came barreling by, the rush of wind from in buffeting his thick fur back. "Looks like we're just going to have to risk it. You'll save me if I get hit right?" he asked, with a bat of his eyes.

Spiderbite flinched back when the monster flew by. His nerves were about shot. "You getting hit is a waste of time," he snapped. "So don't even suggest it." He cleared his throat and crawled up to the thunderpath. He looked one way then the other. "Alright, I think we're clear."

Frigidshard dashed across the thunderpath with all the speed he could muster. He didn't even look behind him to see if Spiderbite was following until he hit the other side. He turned to see where his clanmate was, releasing the breath he hadn't realized he was holding.

Spiderbite didn't stop after crossing the Thunderpath. Frigidshard was faster than him with his warrior physique and reached the other side first. Knowing his clanmate was safe, Spiderbite didn't stop. He dived into ShadowClan territory and prayed the direction he picked would lead him straight to the night walking Clan's hidden camp.

Hickoryshade looked around as the group approached the river. She snorted lightly at how full the banks looked. The storm earlier must still have had alot of runoff to dump. Even so, she glanced at Yewpaw and mewed simply. “Nobody falls in if we don’t foolishly go leaning over the bank. We’ll hunt in those reeds near the bank. Could be some water voles in there.”

Yewpaw almost gasped as the river came into view, smiling to herself as she saw the large body of water. It was pretty, she would give Riverclan that. Still wet though, she knew. "Are water voles different from regular voles? Harder to hunt?" She didn't want to embarrass herself in front of Bluewhisker and Hickoryshade! But if she did well, then she'd have an adventure to share with the rest of the apprentices, if they listened to her that is.

Bluewhisker continued to hang back as they emerged from the forest onto the banks of the river. Yewpaw, like always, was eager for whatever task lay ahead of her. The senior warrior paused on the edge of the woods to look across the swollen river at RiverClan's territory, still wet from the storm with a blanket of mist covering the water meadows. She wondered when the next battle over the Sunningrocks would be.

Hickoryshade shook her head once, snickering. “Nah. They’re not that much harder to hunt. They just stick closer to water than regular voles. You find them in river grasses, wet mud, and pebbled river shores.” She explained. “So. You need to move your paws carefully in either of those locations, yeah?”

Skyclan/Riverclan Border)>>
Poppyclaw padded along the sloped banks of the border, careful to avoid the heavily flowing river. He guessed that the recent storm had flooded the river somewhere in lower elevations. Luckily, Skyclan was so well sloped that flooding was never really a problem here. He glanced at Eaglenose.
“I knew we never should have done joined hunting patrols with Thunderclan to Twolegplace. First the poisoned prey, now Whitesun and Jadefeather are missing. It’s all been a disaster, and we’re still low on prey ever since that blasted fire.” He grumbled, though it was clear that under his steely exterior was alot of worry for the deputy and his mate.

MoonblazerEaglenose followed Poppyclaw along the edge of the river, surprised at how full it was compared to usual. It was wide and there didn’t seem to be any clear place to cross - not that he wanted to, but usually there were spots that were shallower and easier to cross. Not now. The water rushed by and it almost lapped his feet as he took his usual path along side it, out of habit. He grunted and shuffled a little ways away to continue on. He looked over at Poppyclaw as the tom spoke and nodded his agreement. “Would it be surprising if ThunderClan themselves had something to do with the disappearances?” He asked, though it was more of an accusatory question than genuine. “They like to pretend they’re the proudest and most noble clan, but I’ve never trusted them.” He growled.

"Nothing surprises me when it comes to the other Clans. They wouldn't know respect if it slashed them across the muzzle." Poppyclaw grunted, partially in agreement with Eaglenose, though he did seem ever so slightly reluctant. "I can't say though that I can blame Thunderclan for the disappearances, seeing as one of their Warriors disappeared as well. No Clan with half a brain would ever sacrafice one of their own just to claw us in the back over prey in Twolegplace." He murmured, quickly marking along the border. Poppyclaw looked out across the border, eyes narrowing as he spotted a small Riverclan patrol lazing across the water. Starclan, they looked as fat as badgers! He couldn't help but flex his claws with envy at how well fed and relaxed the Riverclan cats looked while Skyclan was suffering so badly. He tensed as he noticed one of the cats notice them. "Oh! Skyclan cats! Stonegaze!" Mintpaw jumped to her paws, eyes wide as she stood up from her fishing practice to look out across the rushing water. Her mentor lifted his eyes, seeming completely unfazed as he tipped his head. Standing to his paws, he simply waved his tail in calm greeting. "Poppyclaw. Eaglenose. Don't mind us, we're doing some training over on this side." He mused.

MoonblazerEaglenose shrugged. He saw the logic in what Poppyclaw said, but he couldn’t shake the feeling of distrust about the other clan. It might be unlikely that ThunderClan was involved but he wasn’t so eager to let it go. He flicked his tail. “I suppose. Perhaps they’re keeping them in their camp, to weaken us.” He suggested, though that idea didn’t hold much weight even for him. He glanced across the river to the other clan and noticed the other patrol. He narrowed his eyes at the RiverClan warrior’s words. “As long as you stay on your side of the river.” Eaglenose responded. “Prey must be running fine in RiverClan. You’re looking…well-fed,” his tone took on a slight edge as his gaze flicked over their sleek pelts.

The current’s too strong.” Stonegaze stared levelly at the two Skyclan toms, knowing that both tended to be closed off at gatherings. He placed his tail pointedly on Mintpaw’s shoulder as she mewed loudly. “Oh yeah! We’ve been really lucky! There’s a ton of-“ She was cut off as Stonegaze cleared his throat. “Prey is running well. We wish the same for you, and Skyclan.” The tom mewed simply, reminding himself to train Mintpaw’s impulsiveness more lest she start bragging.

Eaglenose glared back at the RiverClan cat. “It wouldn’t be wise to cross the river any time.” He said pointedly. His eyes flicked to the apprentice and he softened a little. “SkyClan is doing fine,” he told them, forcing his tone to even out. “StarClan be with you.” He told them, gazing between the two cats and then turned back to his clanmate, waiting for his cue to move on.

Let’s go further down the river.” Stonegaze returned the wishing of Starclan, though he narrowed his eyes pointedly in response to the two toms. He quickly ushered Mintpaw back into her fishing position, as though trying to signify that they had no intention of leaving their spot until he said so.

Fish can survive leafbare in ways other prey can’t. But I’d rather flay my own pelt than try and swim to survive.” He scoffed.

"Remember, out here you do not have the undergrowth of the forest to camouflage you. You must be stealthy, even more so than usual."

As annoying as it was to see RiverClan fat with prey in their bellies, he wouldn’t be satisfied with eating or catching fish. It was too wet and the fish had a weird taste. “I don’t know how they stand being wet all the time. To live with a damp pelt all the time is a nightmare.” Eaglenose said, shivering at the thought.

Yewpaw nodded her head, scanning the side of the river for any of the landmarks Hickoryshade had just mentioned, as well as opening her mouth to scent the air. She had never scented a water vole before, but it couldn't smell that different than a regular one, right? Hickoryshade had said they weren't much harder to hunt.
Creeping closer to the river, knowing that there was a chance she would get her paws wet. She approached an area of river grasses, the bottoms slightly submerged under the murky water. Yuck. She didn't want to investigate, but... Yewpaw scented the air again, and the scent of almost-vole flooded her nostrils. That must be it! Her eyes scanning the bank, Yewpaw thought she spotted a quiver in the grasses there... a tail there?
She lurched forward, claws outstretched, grabbing onto the slimy, wet pelt of the water vole. It almost slipped through her paws to be honest, but she managed to hook it just in time and deliver the killing bite. She emerged from the grasses, smiling at Bluewhisker and Hickoryshade despite her now wet paws. "I think I did it!" She mewed through the prey in her mouth, making it come out muffled. "Truthfully, it almost got away..."
