“Well, it was bound to happen.” Forestblaze said with a sigh, turning away from the border to look at her. “I think we’ve marked this border pretty well. Should we check any others?”
Mistyberry sighed as time seemed to pass achingly slow as she waited for Splashstone, her tail flicking in worry as she watched the other side of the river for any movement. Did she come too early? Or had he changed his mind and decided to not come after all? Mistyberry shook her head to chase those thoughts away and looked down into the river. Maybe fishing will keep her mind off of things, and she could catch a fish for them to share when he did show up.

Unless you’d like to. I can always use a good walk, to clear my mind.” After a few moments, Splashstone began to quietly scale his way down the path behind the waterfall. He poked his head out from behind a large rock, eyes brightening when he caught sight of Mistyberry, waiting in the spot they had assigned the last time they met. He felt a small flicker of playfulness as he cupped some water in his paw and splashed it at her back, a deep laugh escaping him.

"I wouldn't mind taking a walk through the territory." Forestblaze said, glad for the extra time to spend with her. He gave her a soft smile, "I also wouldn't mind taking some time to clear my head as well. All this talk about the Dark Forest has been making everyone tense. What about you? Is there something on your mind that's bothering you?"
Mistyberry yelped and jumped when she felt the sudden splash of water land on her back, scaring away the fish that she had just been about to catch. She whirled around, her fur bristling at first but quickly lay flat when she saw Splashstone laughing. "Oh, you! You'll pay for that!" She growled playfully, her paw flashing out into the water and splashing it at him. "Here I was, trying to catch us a nice fish to share and you go and scare it away! Just for that, you're gonna have to catch your own fish this time." She purred, happy to see that he had finally made it to their meeting spot.

She purred, happy to see that he had finally made it to their meeting spot. “Lightningstar’s been calling Ghostscreech into his den more often than usual. I’m not so much bothered by Ghostscreech doing his duties as much as I am curious about what Lightningstar discusses with him. If Thunderclan’s in any danger, I want to be told the truth, you know?” Frostmoon mewed honestly, before she sighed. “I just feel like half the time you have to be certain cats to even get any knowledge of what’s going on. It makes me feel dumb, and I hate that feeling.” She huffed. —- Splashstone laughed as water splashed against his pelt. He scampered over to Mistyberry, smirking with humor as he rumbled. “Jokes on you. I’ve been practicing what you showed me last time we met. I’ll catch a fish, just for you.” He winked, heart racing at how easily she commanded his attention. Her laughter soothed the ache in his heart, and he wanted so badly to impress her by catching a fish.

"He hasn't confided in you what Lightningstar has been saying?" Forestblaze asked, giving a curious flick of his ear. Maybe this was the chink in their relationship that he was looking for. "Do you think there's a reason Ghostscreech hasn't said anything to you?"
_______
"Oh yeah? Well, be my guest, Oh Great Fishcatcher!" Mistyberry giggled, stepping back and pretending to bow to him. She looked back up at him, her eyes sparkling playfully at him as she made her challenge, motioning to him to try his paw at catching a fish. "Well? Go on, prove to me how much your fishing skills have improved since last time."

I just always assumed that it wasn’t my place to ask, so I never… really have…” She mused, looking a bit put off. Ghostscreech hadn’t really spoken about it with her. —- “Watch out. I’ll make you eat those words, along with the fish I’m about to catch.” Splashstone teased, before he almost excitedly lowered himself to his belly, eyes narrowing with concentration as he stared at the rushing water. The task of fishing was far more relaxing and far more rewarding than chasing frantically after rabbits. While the thrill of running and tunneling was very valid and very prevalent in his clanmates… Splashstone had never felt that rush. Here, on the bank, he could focus only on seeking the fish, and it did wonders to push away the darkness and sadness that plagued his mind. He realized, that this felt right to him. It felt like he could finally do something right. His paw struck out quickly, and to his joy, he managed to snag a small yet acceptable fish. He hooked it onto the bank, sloppily but successfully killing it before he grinned brightly. “I-… I did it! Did you see that?!”

"Well, you're his mate now, so that should put as somewhat of an equal status, right?" Forestblaze asked carefully, watching her carefully for any kind of reaction. Ghostscreech seemed like the type to not want to share what Lightningstar tells him in private, so maybe this could be something that would lead to an argument between the two. "Do you think he's told anyone else what Lightningstar talks to him about?"
____
"Yes! You caught one!" Mistyberry purred, jumping to her paws when she saw the fish fly out of the water. She looked at him excitedly, her eyes filled with warmth and pride at seeing her friend catch a fish. "It's a nice fat one too! Looks like now I can grant you the title of the Fish Catching Master." She teased, her whiskers twitching with amusement.

Frostmoon asked, having no siblings of her own and not knowing how deep that kind of bond ran. She mused. "Ghostscreech can be reserved about what he says. In that way, he and I are similar." She decided, inwardly wondering just how much Ghostscreech knew. Maybe he could tell her later. --- Splashstone brightened at the sight of Mistyberry's excitement. Her praise felt like a fresh drink of water in the heat of Greenleaf. He purred deeply. "I'll wear that title with the greatest pride. It's only thanks to you though that I could even catch this fish. You really are amazing, you know that?" He breathed, the words tumbling out before he had time to think about what he was implying.

"It couldn't hurt to ask though, could it?" Forestblaze asked, blinking at her. He didn't like seeing Frostmoon upset, but if this could cause an argument between her and Ghostscreech, it could give him an opportunity to show her that his feelings for her was that of more than a friend. He just hoped that something like this would be enough to put cracks into the new relationship.

"Well, it helps that my apprentice has a natural talent for fishing, I only helped cultivate that talent." Mistyberry teased, giving him a friendly nudge and smile. She felt a flutter in her chest when he told her that she was amazing, having never had that kind of praise from anyone else besides her foster family. "I'm not all that amazing, Splashstone. It's you who deserves that praise instead of me." She added, her voice falling into a quieter tone.

That means alot, you know?” —- Splashstone stared at her, wanting in that moment to ask her if she would be willing to see him as an actual Clanmate, if he joined Riverclan. He hesitated, still held back by the conflict and guilt at leaving Windclan. Could he do it? Looking at Mistyberry, he wanted to feel the way he felt with her all the time. This happiness, this freedom, this deep emotion he’d never felt before. He finally spoke. “I wish I was your Clanmate. Life with you in it everyday, that would be so fun.”

____

Inwardly, she wanted to know what Ghostscreech knew, if only to help him handle it, seeing as Lightningstar seemed to be telling him alot. —- Splashstone was quiet for a moment, before he finally admitted. “A part of me wants to join Riverclan. More and more, I realize that I feel happier when I’m acting like a Riverclan cat. Swimming, fishing, just these past days have felt so… right.” His ears fell. “I’d be able to be with my father too, which is… I want that.” He sighed softly. “But how can I possibly leave? I don’t want to hurt anybody, but I know I’ll have to if I try and leave.” He blinked sadly at Mistyberry. “I want to wake up and get to be able to know more about you everyday.”

"I would like for that as well, but I would hate for you to live with the guilt of leaving WindClan." Mistyberry mewed sadly, not wanting Splashstone to feel like he's being torn between the two Clans. She had wondered who his father was, but never pried into it or asked him who he was. You've told me before how unhappy you've been in WindClan though, so do you think that living with me, your father and RiverClan would make you happier?" "I think that any Clan I was in, if you were there, I would be very happy." He touched his muzzle to her cheek in return, voice light as he admitted. "I've never felt this kind of connection with any cat before. This must be what my mother felt when she met my father here, all those moons ago. I can see why they did it."
