“With all that’s already happened, I can’t imagine what else could be a test for him, or any of the Clans.” Swanflight sighed. She wished she was older, able to fully understand the hardships that her parents and her grandfather went through. Admittedly, she was proud to be Earthstar’s granddaughter, that she could feel comfortable speaking to him more casually than most. She followed him, glancing back at the patrol as she added. “I’m just glad that the fish can just move downstream for this flood, and come right back.” "We've been luckier than most, all things considered." Earthstar remarked. For everything he had gone through during his warriorhood, he was lucky to not have to deal with the fire or the Prey Maulers - yet. "And I'm starting to wonder if the other Clans have noticed. ThunderClan was devastated by the fire, and ShadowClan had to take Fourtrees..." his tail twitched in irritation at the fact that Cedarstar still hadn't returned them to neutral territory. "I'm certain this will cause some tension at the next Gathering." “It’ll be good to see you on the rock again when the Gathering comes.” Swanflight admitted. “Not that Diamondheart did a bad job. The opposite, really, but it certainly was more eventful than anyone expected.” Swanflight admitted, before she looked at her grandfather. “I hope it doesn’t come out of line but… what would you have done, had it been one of our medicine cats or clanmates that broke the code? Would you have banished them, Earthstar?” She asked lightly.

Nettlepatch gave Ivypaw an encouraging smile as he stepped across the border to follow after the patrol. He supposed it was fitting to have his kin in Ivypaw and Arcticbreeze with him when Whitesun had seemed to bring half his family with him. He momentarily felt bad for Ravenshade and Silvercloud. Hopefully they didn't mind too much.

Whitesun turned and started making his way through SkyClan territory, setting a path towards Twolegplace.
Hawkpaw gave Ivypaw a small smile, “Don’t worry, this is my first time going to Twolegplace as well.” She mewed in reassurance, feeling a shiver of excitement go through her. “I think I’m just as nervous as I am excited.”
Arcticbreeze followed after Nettlepatch and Ivypaw, giving the SkyClan warriors a polite nod of her head. She couldn’t help but remember her recent conversation with Shadowblossom the other day and the revelation of the circumstances of her birth. Could it be possible that her true mother is from Twolegplace? And what about her father? She supposed it didn’t really matter all that much, but Arcticbreeze couldn’t help but wonder about the possibilities.

Now content with Hawkpaw interacting with Ivypaw, Jadefeather now turned her attention to Arcticbreeze. That same tiny flicker of familiarity built up in her. Everytime she had seen the Thunderclan Warrior at gatherings, she found her familiar. But, it was likely just her mind. After all, she had seen countless cats in her lifetime. She nodded to her. “You look like you’re lost in thought. Are you doing alright?”

Arcticbreeze blinked in surprise at Jadefeather’s voice, shaking herself out of her thoughts and giving the SkyClan warrior a small smile, “Oh, I’m alright. This will be my first trip to Twolegplace as well, I’ve never left ThunderClan territory before.” She mewed.

He was not that nervous, he tried to tell himself. He was just all prickly for no real reason. It did feel nice to have somebody who was going through the same thing he was, though. “Yeah,” he said, “It’s pretty exciting I guess.” He was about to enter the den of the things that poisoned his clan, and he was meant to find the safe prey to bring them back.

Silvercloud nodded in greeting to the ThunderClan patrol, but didn't say anything. She followed after Whitesun with her fur prickling. It always unnerved her to go back to the twoleggedplace, but she knew her skills there could feed the Clan. We'll be in and out quick, she told herself. Then we'll be home. She smiled to herself, knowing the exact spot on the camp cliff where she wanted to eat her next meal. It was also so sunny and warm and she could watch the Clan go about their day. It was so much better than life in the twoleggedplace.

For everything that had happened during the Gathering, it sounded like he represented RiverClan like a true leader. "I'm not worried about how the other Clans saw us, with how eventful it was." he remarked. "As for what I would've done... I suppose it depends on the severity of the situation. If we had enough medicine cats to rely on, I would consider banishing them for breaking more than one code." He paused. "But given that we've lost so many, the need to share their knowledge and skill to help us could repent for their actions... at least for a while." Would he have banished Specklecreek to uphold the warrior code, even if it left them with only Quietpaw? It certainly would cause an outrage if he didn't - but what if it benefitted RiverClan in the end? Stranger things have happened, he thought, thinking of Rain and her leadership without taking on a traditional warrior name. "What do you think? If you were in my paws, what would you do?" Earthstar asked, curious to know the opinion of a warrior.

She looked thoughtful for a long moment, before she admitted. “I think I would let the Medicine Cat stay. Like you said, we’ve lost too many already. I guess a part of me would be indignant to doing something just because I might look bad to the other Clans if I don’t. Riverclan is strong on our own, I wouldn’t let any other Clan sway my decision on what to do about one of my Clanmates.” She finally decided.

Earthstar hummed in reply. Her dedication to not letting the other Clans sway her decision was admirable. "Truthfully, I don't think I would banish a cat in that fashion. While it can make you seem certain of your decision, if it is an unpopular one, it causes only more conflict." he rumbled. "I'm sure that's how it played out. Unless the cat's crime is as severe as murder, I would prefer to let them go quietly." he flicked his tail. "Echowing and Cedarstar must have been feeling some strong emotions, for it to play out the way it did."

She looked at her grandfather. “I mean, was Echowing expecting us all to be praising her for that?” She scoffed lightly.

"Perhaps she thought she was doing the right thing by defending the warrior code." Earthstar mused, unfamiliar with Echowing and her general demeanor. "It certainly left an impression on all the Clans. If I were in a forbidden relationship, I'd be afraid of having my secrets exposed for all the Clans." He flicked an ear, wondering if there were any such relationships in the Clan that he was unaware of.

“Whatever Echowing intended, it was pretty interesting to see.” Brightrock said with a shrug, having been listening to the conversation quietly. He glanced at his brother and gave him a nudge, “What do you think Duskhawk?”
“I don’t know.” Duskhawk said with a grunt, shaking his head. There wasn’t much he could think of to add into the conversation between the leader and Swanflight.

“No forbidden relationships with Duskhawk, that’s for sure.” Swanflight snorted at Duskhawk’s flippant response, a twinkle of teasing in her eyes before she admitted. “You’d think you could find a good mate in your own Clan, rather than go through all this trouble for a cat from another Clan…” She sighed, unable to understand why cats took the risk.

"Hm," Earthstar grunted, moving to mark the last part of their territory. He also couldn't understand why a cat would pursue a forbidden relationship; he was perfectly happy with Frostlake. "Some cats must feel unhappy where they are and seek change. After all, we have quite a few cats from outside the Clans who have adapted to our ways." He straightened and stared across the border, whisking his tail. "Another cat must be the push they need..." Shaking his head, he looked back at the patrol. "I think we're finished here. Shall we return to camp?"

She took her grandfather’s calm words to heart, wondering if there was a love so strong she could ever give up Riverclan for it.

Earthstar nodded in satisfaction. "In that case, let's get out of this rain. The Clan will be happy to hear the news." he mewed, relieved that there was no sign of flooding - or the Prey Maulers, for that matter. He wanted to check up on Alder and see how the newcomer was settling in.

Forestblaze always did seem confident in his statements. A part of her envied that unwavering confidence in the words he spoke. She pushed the thought away, instead glancing at the tom as she asked. "Has your father been doing any better? I was concerned that he wasn't progressing with Hollowpaw... Patchpaw tries to hide how he feels, but I can tell that he's worried about his sister."

Forestblaze sighed and gave a small shake of his head, "I'm not sure honestly. Silentflare's kind of withdrawn lately, I haven't seen him take Hollowpaw out the past couple days either." He said, his ear flicking in worry for his father's recent change in behavior. "I know him and Yarrowcloud had their differences, but he was his brother after all. It has to be a difficult thing to deal with."
Mistyberry paused as she reached the bottom of the waterfall, her eyes scanning the other side of the river for the familiar shape of Splashstone. She sat down at the edge of the river, not wanting to cross the border until she knew that her new friend was here. Mistyberry gave a small flick of her ear as a small thrill of excitement went through her at the thought of meeting with Splashstone again, having met with him a few times here already. As she thought more about him, she couldn't help but wonder if there was more to her feelings for him than she had originally thought. Did she really think of him as just a friend? Mistyberry sighed, her tail tapping lightly as she waited for the WindClan warrior to appear.

I can’t say I understand what that’s like, but even when you quarrel, there’s a bond there, right?” Frostmoon mewed almost sadly, thinking of what it would feel like to lose a brother. She imagined it was horribly painful. She asked lightly. “It sounded like their father was a horrible cat. Do you suppose he put that wedge between them?”

"Yeah..." Forestblaze murmured, looking across the border again once he finished marking the border. He had his fair share of arguments with his littermates when they were younger, but that was expected when it came to siblings and they always made up again after a bit. "It sounds like that's what happened. Whenever Silentflare spoke about Wrenflight, he always said how great he was. It was clear my father loved him. But Yarrowcloud never talked about him, not even when we asked." He added.

If he favored Silentflare, and hated his other son, then I can’t imagine there not being any bitterness there.” Frostmoon murmured, unable to imagine her own father ever doing such a thing. Hornetstrike was an epitome of love, affection, equality in the tenderness and care he gave to both her and her mother. Even with their flaws, their discomfort with most situations, Hornetstrike’s patience and love held them together. Suddenly, her heart ached painfully for Silentflare, Yarrowcloud, and Peachdapple. “I’m sorry that your father had to find out the truth that way. I know he loves you and all your siblings far better than your grandfather did.”
