(Yeah. Eventually, we'll need them, but for the moment, I've got nothing.)
Nichole kind of shrugged. She didn't really know how moving to another country was brave. It had been a decision she had made on a whim, only half thought out and barely planned for. Look how that ended up. "I won't tell them where I am. In fact, I probably should mention the attack at all. What they don't know won't hurt them." At his mention of going back to Tennessee, the young woman couldn't help but cast a glance in Daniel and Anja's direction. "Yeah, they still live there," she muttered in reply.
This was not the boy's taste of blood, but it was the first time it had sparked any kind of reaction from him. Christoph should have been modified when the iron tang of blood filled his mouth. Yet it gave him a satisfaction in knowing he had finally been able to injure his grandfather. Something inside him longed to pounce again, to continue the fight while he had the upper hand. His claws dug into the ground, itching to tear into Möer's pelt. He could do it. It'd be easy enough to just pounce. One bite would be all it would take to end all of the torture he had endured. Before he even knew it, that's exactly what he did. The boy leaped, hoping to use his weight to knock his grandfather off balance as he sank his teeth into his shoulder. While his instincts were good, his technique was sorely flawed. It didn't matter, so long as he was able to cause some kind of damage.
Faith laughed and playfully nudged him. The man ceased to amuse her, always finding the slightest bit of humor in any conversation. "I'm an excellent eye for details," she told him, playing along. "I see things a lot of people over look. I guess I could just tell by looking at you."

((It's cool, no worries.))
Selim followed her gaze, and considered her words for a moment. "Do you want to go back to them?" he asked eventually.
Möer yowled in pain, again instinctively knocking his assailant away with a swipe of his large paw, claws unsheathed. But the force of the attack left him unable to recover his balance, and he crashed painfully to the forest floor. He made an immediate attempt to spring back to his feet, but his shoulder howled in protest, and the attempt failed quite miserably.
Nate smiled. Of all the things for you to be able to tell about me just by looking, that's probably the most innocuous. "Very impressive. I'll have to try my hand at that ability with your friends and see what I can pick up."

"I mean, I would love to see them again. They're my parents, and I haven't seen them in a year. But..." Nichole started, letting her gaze return to Selim, "I know I mean nothing to them, especially now, but they took me in while I was working for them. I don't really want to just leave them. I doubt I'll have much of a choice, though. Ireland is a small place to try and hide in if someone else has been stalking me, and my parents will worry if I just suddenly move to a different country without mentioning anything about it to them."
After his second attack, his anger subsided as the iron tang of blood registered in his mouth. Christoph blinked back the haze that had clouded his vision after landing a bit awkwardly on the ground and took in the sight of his inured grandfather. For once, the wolf wasn't able to get up, to pounce on him. He had gotten the upper hand. Yet, instead of making a point to prove he wasn't as weak as Möer claimed he was, common sense took over once more. The boy stared at his grandfather for just a few moments more before turning and running in the opposite direction as fast as he could.
"I think all of them are pretty obvious," Faith told him. "They're all open books, especially when they've had a couple of drinks in their systems. But I'll still be interested to see what you can come up with."

"You're right. Hiding on your own, especially when you have little or no hiding experience, is difficult." Selim was silent for a moment. "You have two feasible options. We can send you back to Tennessee to be with your parents, or you can stay here at the base. At least for a while."
He was getting away, the boy was getting away, but Möer couldn't pull himself back to his feet, every move he made sent pain screaming through his body, and he yowled in pain and rage, the sound echoing through the trees after his retreating grandson.
"This should be interesting indeed." He offered his arm. "Lead the way, milady."

"I wouldn't want to be in the way here," Nichole said. "Are you sure that would be okay?"
Christoph didn't stop running. Not when the anger faded and was replaced by fear. Not when he felt his fur get snagged by underbrush as he ran by. It was only when the boy was completely out of breath did he stop. Shifting back into a human, Christoph huddled against the base of a large tree, breathing heavily and shaking slightly. He had lost his sense of direction in his flee, but at least he could no longer hear his grandfather's howls of rage. How long would it take for him to recover? Could he already be tracking him down? He needed to leave, but the problem was, he had no idea where to go. When Möer had brought him here, he had been asleep until the final leg of the journey. If there were any towns close by, he had no idea where they were. Surely there would be one close by.
Faith looped her arm through his and began to lead the way down the street. "Do you mind if we stop by my apartment first? I need to change my jeans. I had split some coffee on them earlier."

"Of course, my dear. Helping shifters is what we do. Generally, barring out-of-the-ordinary medical circumstances, shifters get a two-year grace period where we will house you at the base and provide for all of your needs. After that, you must either leave or start contributing. But we will certainly not turn you away."
((Hm. We've talked about having a tribe of wild shifters. Should that be a thing here? Not immediately, but after a while of him traveling on his own?))
"Oh." But he was immediately on edge, and initially he wasn't sure why. Upon thinking about it, he realized that it was justified—going to a private location should make anyone nervous. But he locked up that nervousness for later use, because now he had to play the part. He smiled. "Sure."

"Well then, I guess I'll stay," Nichole replied with a small, grateful smile. The young woman had no idea what she should do, but knowing she had a safe place to stay for at least two years eased some worry from her. If nothing else, she knew she would go home to her parents. It wasn't her ideal plan, but it was one she would be fine with if she worked nothing else out. She finished up the last bite of her food, but stayed seated to continue the conversation. "I have no intentions of being a burden, so if there's anything I need to do, please inform me. Otherwise, I'll probably just be wandering around bored, not sure what to do."
(I wouldn't see why not. I doubt Christoph will have much knowledge of where exactly he is, so even if he knew how to navigate somehow, he wouldn't know how to get back to civilization on his own. The tribe of wild shifters would be reasonable.)
"Thanks, and I promise, it won't take long," Faith assured him. They would be passing her apartment anyway, so it wasn't like she was detouring them too far out of the way. She would change, and then they would be on their way again.

"If you're looking to busy yourself, I can certainly help you find some office or maintenance work at least. But just give yourself some time to get settled in first, eh?"
((Coolness. So then... this will definitely require new characters. I will work on one or two. What should the names be like? Maybe like Tribe of Rushing Water names [but in German, as they are in Austria]?))
Nate nodded, jaw tightened ever so slightly. He held out a hand. "Lead the way."

"Thank you," Nichole replied, grateful that this man was so willing to help her. "I'll try. Is there a rule against shifting here? I want to ask this now so I don't accidentally get into trouble." She knew that the WK was Pro Shifters, but she didn't know the full extent of their rules and regulations. There was no point in getting into trouble because of her tendencies to shift between one species to another.
(I'll try to think of one or two as well! Should some be at the age where they are stuck as one animal as well? I feel like that would be a good way to integrate that into the plot as well. As for a name, I agree. Let me do some searching and see if I can find some ideas. Do you want like Tribe of such&such? Or something like the "Hidden Ones?" Or something more obscerue like "Those who Watch and Hide?" You know, something that describes them, but has many layers to discover as we go.)
Faith smiled and lead him to her apartment building. It was a decent place with a well tended flower beds out front, white brick walls reaching six stories, and just a very peaceful air to it. Inside was no exception. It was decorated modestly, giving enough to satisfy the eye without creating a scene too fancy for that part of town. The floors were swept and mopped, all the nights were working as they should, and the elevators didn't creak or moan when in use. Once on the third floor, the young woman sought out room 8C and unlocked the door. "I apologize if it's messy," she said, stepping inside and turning on the light. "I was in the middle of reorganizing a closet, and haven't gotten around to finishing it yet."

((Hm. To my knowledge, we've never started a new thread for the sole reason of having a "fresh start." Personally I don't think it would really do much to increase membership, and it would also isolate Dawn for when she comes back [who knows when that'll be, but it'll happen eventually; she's been around almost as long as I have]. But that's just me. Thoughts, Night?))
"Generally, shifting is not allowed within the walls of the base, just for safety purposes, but there are exceptions, like in a shifter's own quarters or in the training area. There are signs on the wall to designate shifting zones."
((I kind of like the Hidden Ones. In German that's die Versteckten. And being stuck as one animal isn't really a thing, but they'd probably be at a point where they have animalistic tendencies from not often being human. Since shifters live for so long there would definitely be plenty who still remember civilization, but also plenty who were born in the wild.))
Nate hadn't been in a building like this... well, maybe ever. He'd grown up in a tiny house that was practically falling apart by the time he left. This... It seemed like a very nice place to live. "Not at all," he responded automatically to the apology as he stepped over Faith's threshold.

(Yeah, I don't think starting in a new thread would do much good. After all, there's so many good story lines built up already, even with the spotty activity. I'd hate for all of it to go to waste. And it wouldn't be fair to Dawn since she has been one of the original people here. If people aren't interested in the title itself, I don't see how making a new thread will gain more attention than it does now. Trust me, as someone who has tried making big rps in the past, it takes more than a fresh start to gain more members.)
Nichole nodded, glad that she'll still be able to shift when she wanted. After what happened today, one would think she wouldn't want to shift for a while, but that wasn't the case. It was addicting, and the young woman had gone too long living the life of an animal whenever she felt like it to be forced into hiding because of one bad event. "I'll keep an eye out for them then," she said.
(Alright then! How do you want to introduce them?)
It was a pretty standard apartment. The room had an open concept with the kitchen off to the right and the living room beyond that. To the right and to the left were separate bedrooms, each with their own small bathrooms. "I'll just be a second," Faith told him, heading off in the direction of her bedroom on he right. "Feel free to make yourself at home." Then the woman disappeared as she closed the door behind her.

((Makes sense to me. Dark, if you're looking for something to do, feel free to make a character or two for the tribe.))
Selim nodded, and began gathering his utensils and napkins onto his tray. "Well, it was lovely to meet you, Nichole. Remember that I'm here to help with anything you may need. Be seeing you."
((Well! Why not jump right into it and have them find Christoph from their POV? Here's the character I have so far. Working on one other too, a younger one. Though I might mostly just wing it and see who I like best, because after I made this one I realized she may not be the best to roleplay with. Also, I realized that there may or may not be a couple humans in this tribe? If one of the founding shifters was born human but became a shifter later in life, would they pass the shifting gene on to their offspring? I'm not sure, I'm not a geneticist.))

"It was good meeting you too," Nichole said in turn. Gathering up her own thrash and dishware, she decided it'd be best to get going as well. The conversation with Selim had helped to lighten her mood. And with the knowledge that she didn't have to stay confined to her room, she could go about and find something to distract herself with. Maybe even shift for a while. That would help take away a lot of stress.
(Haha, sounds good to me. As for your question, I would think so. I mean if people who have shifter parents can be born normal, then it would make sense this to be the case with the tribe as well. I think it would be reasonable to have some just plain humans in the tribe. I might make a character as well.)
Faith was true to her word. All she really had to do was change her jeans, which was done in a matter of minutes. However, while she was there, the woman took the time to pull on a nicer blouse as well. Might as well look good on their outing. Once done, she took a quick glance at herself in the mirror, smoothed out a rowdy strand of hair, and then nodded in satisfaction. "Alright, I think I'm ready," she called as she rejoined Nate in the living room.

((Hi there!
Ice, regarding your genetics question, I think we’ve always said when a human is bitten, their DNA changes, right? So it seems like if they had children after the DNA change, they’d pass on the new (shifter) DNA. I’m not a geneticist either so I may be wrong, but it just seems logical.
Also, it’s been what, a year since I’ve been here? Unfortunately, I came back to say I probably won’t be role playing anymore. It moves too slowly for me to keep checking regularly and I have a hard time remembering what’s going on in the story.
I may pop back in to say hi from time to time, since I hate to leave something I’ve been part of for so long, but if others want to pick up my characters (I think I only had like three active ones), go ahead.))

It's come back from the brink many times before. That being said, I can't really make any promises as far as whether I'll come back full force.
I realized yesterday that this month... it's ten years. This roleplay is a decade old. And if nothing else, I'd just like to honor that.

((Oh dearie me no, I would love to at least continue with the Fischers/Nichole and Faith/Nate [whom I still ship very hard]. I've just finished reading through the entire thread and... again, all I can say is wow. HOWEVER, I must confess that I'm not overly stoked about continuing with the Christoph storyline [for which I apologize because you did such a good job Rping him]. I think, to a degree... it may be good to move on. Start some completely fresh storylines with brand new characters. While I understand why, it saddens me greatly that Dawnmist has left... I always did love the RK-to-WK trio, but I guess they're done for good. I just would've liked them to have some kind of resolution. Perhaps one day Dawn will return and we can do something for them with the express purpose of wrapping things up, because those characters could really use some peace. It also kind of hurts me to imagine letting go of Diana, who is ten years old in real time by this point, but... nobody who really knows her or her story is around anymore and it feels like she exists in a part of this world that doesn't usually get much attention. As nostalgic as I am, I do absolutely see the value in starting fresh—not necessarily by dropping all old plots, but being discerning about which ones we think would be worth continuing and trying to come up with some new ones we can be genuinely excited about. So. Those are my thoughts. Night, my inexpressible thanks for sticking with us. Your thoughts are valued as well, so whip 'em out there. But in any event, here I go with Nate, and as for Nichole, I believe a time skip is in order? Where to?)) Nate rose promptly, putting on a smile. "Splendid. Shall we?" he asked, offering his elbow.

(Sorry for the delayed response. Life's been hectic.
I would love to continue with Nichole/Fischers and Faith/Nate, and I agree with the decision of not continuing with Christoph. Even if you say I was doing fine, I felt like I knew too little of the people he was supposed to know, as well as the information/training he would have had at this point in his life. To me, I wasn't satisfied with my replies for him. Maybe one day, if we need to bring him back for whatever reason, I might be a little more prepared. ^^
I'm open for any fresh starts and ideas that you have to revive the plots we have going now. I believe for Nichole, perhaps we could skip to her wandering about the base? She might run into Selim again, and he could offer her a tour of the place. I know we had talked about having her agree to help do something for research purposes, but I don't know right off the top of my head what that was exactly. I'll have to go back and look for it.)
Once more, Faith wrapped a hand gently around his outstretched elbow. "We shall," she replied, smiling. She lead Nate to the door, and, after making sure she had her keys with her, locked the door before pulling it closed behind them.
