It was probably for the best that Oliver did answer, because Alex's eyes were fixed on him, and he would have pushed otherwise. If he had the lack of tact to ask, he had the lack of tact to keep asking - pressing until it hurt. He could be a bit intense, but hey, people seemed to respond to it. For that reason, it was probably good that he hadn't heart Oliver questioning Tori, because he would have pushed on that too had he known, which wouldn't be fair especially in front of a new acquaintance. Hypocritically, when anyone tried to push, he was far more likely to push back than concede. "I thought Scandinavia had pretty good healthcare," he pondered aloud, "or is that just Sweden... Any siblings?" he moved on swiftly as they headed away from school.

Oliver gave a huffed laugh to Tori's words, but his gaze was back on Alex, eyebrows raised.
"Norway has good healthcare, though I suppose not good enough? Also, we hate Sweden, so we were never going to move there," he shook his head and lowered his gaze. "I have sisters. One older, three younger. And a half-brother, but he's not in the picture," very rarely, especially since they'd moved. He wrinkled his nose a little and glanced to Alex. "Are you trying to get all of my secrets from me, or just my family secrets?"

Tori felt a small seed of relief growing in her chest, happy that he hadn't caught what Oliver was asking her, since she would have pushed right back and... Well, that never ends up well. Alex had a way about him that he could wear down anyone to the point where you had to tell him what was going on, and she wasn't quite in the mood for fighting with him today. Instead she just wrinkled her nose for a moment, wondering the same thing as Alex. She kicked a rock absently, ready to get to... wherever Alex was taking them. Once again her best friend became the ring leader, but she was perfectly fine with that. "He's trying to find your deepest, darkest secrets so he can use it against you later on," She added teasingly, a laugh in her voice. "But really, he's just nosy. He did the same thing with me when I came into the picture." She added, nudging Alex affectionately.

"Precisely," Alex laughed, nudging Tori back. "You know... You could just tell us all your deepest, darkest secrets now. You know, to save time," he grinned slyly, although he was kidding now. Well, mostly kidding, anyway - there was still a hint on intent hiding in his voice. "Okay, so, healthcare, sisters, no Sweden," he counted off his newly acquired facts on three fingers. Truth be told, he wanted to know what the sickness was. Not like it affected him in any way, he really was just nosy. But even he knew that was touching on something too personal, at least for now. And Tori would probably jump in to tell him so if he tried anyway. Put that one "What else... good grades? Bad grades? Are you a closet genius?" he smiled inquisitively. Down the slope from the school, they headed into the thick of town, towards the main street which ran through town, leading to the smaller surrounding places at each end. Indeed, whether you could call this a city was arguable. Most stores worth finding were along the main road, as well as a square with a disappointingly boring fountain to block the view of the almost equally uninspiring city hall. To be fair, it did all look somehow more grey in winter.

"Damn, that gives me zero incentive to give you my secrets," Oliver raised both eyebrows at the two, but shoved his hands in his pockets. These two...they were nice, he noted. Even if he'd compared them to two people from home before, they were different. He liked it, and so he smiled faintly.
"Nei, nei," he shook his head, "I get decent grades in things I like, terrible grades in stuff I'm not bothered with. There is nothing about me in the closet."
Was that too much? He didn't care. These people seemed really nice. He blinked at the ground and looked around as he realised that he wasn't actually sure where they were in town. Seemed interesting, nonetheless.

"You call this thick stack of papers decent?" She asked, raising her eyebrows at him, not quite believing that he was just "Decent." She liked the kid well enough, glad that she was finally making friends after a year of going to this school. She shoved Alex back, " You already know all of my secrets." She responded with a laugh . "So, now that we've interrogated you, what do you want to know about us?" She asked, eyes wide and open. (Might not be on for a bit, have family over now. X3)

( have fun w your fam sweet!! )
"You could write a lot and it all be nonsense," Alex pointed out pedantically, but he did agree with Tori - Oliver at least had to be pretty damn good at that stuff if nothing else. Leading the other two along the main street and to the fountain and city hall, he stopped them there to gaze upon the most wondrous sea of dull grey slabs beneath their feet. "There - take it in. If you're gonna move to the most underwhelming place in the state - possibly in the country, the jury's still out on that - then you may as well immerse yourself in it," he declared jokingly, with a wry grin, but did point out the hall to Oliver, not that anything remotely interesting ever really happened there. Come to think of it, Alex had lived here almost all his life and had no memory of even going in the place. He made no acknowledgement to Tori's offer of return interrogation; he would happily keep the interrogation to a one-directional thing, but he supposed it was only fair.

( oop iforgot to check here orz have fun clover !! )
"Decent," Oliver agreed, "I got a 5 for it, I think, so it was my best work at the time."
He shook his head slightly at the offer, eyebrows raising slightly and a small smile crossing his lips. He glanced at the hall and raised both eyebrows. It seemed much duller than he had anticipated. Oh well, this entire town seemed to be fairly...lifeless. Maybe it was better during Spring or Summer.
"I'll think of questions to ask you two at a later date. You can interrogate me free-of-charge, for now," he shrugged lightly. "Uh, thank you for the tour, by the way," his gaze flicked to Alex again, "it is helpful."

"Good thing that I am 100% a stoner," Oliver said in a blunt tone, which suggested that he was joking. Possibly. It was hard to tell. He flicked his gaze to Tori and raised his eyebrows. "Playgrounds are great. Don't diss them. I spent most of my childhood there."
Because his house had been chaotic, but that wasn't important, at the moment.

"America just needs better gun laws," Oliver's eyebrows furrowed. "I dunno why your government is so against that. Like, it's not taking away free will. It's saving lives," he shrugged lightly. "But whatever. Norway was cold a lot of the time, but the playgrounds were calming," he crossed his arms and exhaled slowly, "I haven't been mugged in America yet. Is that an experience I'm supposed to have?"

"Not here, no" She said, laughing at the comment. Her house back in Atlanta had been stolen from multiple times, and she had been mugged right off the street before as well, luckily all she had on her was a couple of bucks so no loss there. "I'm not from here, I used to live in a..." She paused for a moment, confusion waving over her face as she searched for the right word. She signed "city", trying to figure out the right word for it, but unable to. She sat there for a good minute, unsure what to say, wishing there was someone else in town aside from her mother who could sign fluently. Another thing she missed about Atlanta. "A place much bigger than here. My school had as many kids as there are people in this town, and we lived in an unsafe neighborhood for most of my life, it was all my mother could afford," She explained, this time signing as she spoke, able to figure out the words as she signed.

"Is that a thing?" Alex mused. "Eh, it wasn't part of the plan but I'll mug you if that's what you need to fulfil your American dream. Anyway, we leave the mugging for the big city here. It's safe enough unless you're actually looking for trouble," he added, the tone rather indicating that this was something he knew by experience. "You wanna see the playground? Relive your childhood? Tori's underselling it, anyway - there's also this corridor of trees. 'Cause they build houses on one side but there was a condition that they had to preserve the woodlands or whatever. So now there's, like, ten trees. See, you're totally getting the insider knowledge here." Regardless, he indicated with his head that they were moving on, wherever they may end up heading. Staring at that stupid fountain was just depressing after a minute.

Oliver's gaze flicked between the two, and he nodded in understanding to Tori. He forgot words too - though moreso due to his lack of experience in English than anything else. He pulled out his phone when it began to ring and squinted before declining the call and shoving his phone back into his pocket.
"Go for it. I have $3 and like, maybe 10 krone. I'm wide open," he raised an eyebrow at Alex, and smiled. "I'd like to see the corridor of trees. It sounds kinda cool, honestly."
He began to walk when Alex indicated that they were going to move.

Alex pretended that he was genuinely considering it for a moment. "Hm. I'll have to check the exchange rate; I'll get back to you." Reaching the park, Alex screwed up his face in response to Tori's look. Okay, fine, so this place was far from spectacular, but what else was new. 'Kinda cool' was almost definitely an overestimation for the tree corridor too, but there were more than ten trees. In fact, there was enough on either side that you could almost pretend you were somewhere half decent, not squashed between a housing estate and a scrappy park. In the right light and a pinch (or more) of imagination, it almost bordered on pretty. "...I reckon you could interpret it as some symbol of... something. Capitalism versus environmentalism? I don't know. You two are the analysts here, hit me."

"10 krone is 1 dollar."
Oliver blinked ad looked at the trees, studying them curiously. He stepped forward and tilted his head back to look up at the leaves. Well. Lack of leaves. He was sure that it was much prettier during the Summer, but...this was nice. He couldn't help but smile a little as he turned to look at Alex.
"I've found a new place to hang out when I don't feel like being at home and I don't have work. You've saved me having to hunt this entire town for a quiet place," he shrugged lightly.

"I guess you did do some good," Tori whispered to Alex grudgingly, watching Oliver relax as he surveyed the park. She supposed that everyone had their own preferences, she glanced around curiously, wondering if it was simply the silence or if it was something else. Her phone buzzed once again, and she grabbed it from her bag, lips pursing once again as she saw that it was from her mother, glancing over the text quickly, making sure it was nothing of importance. Which it wasn't. Thankfully. She almost always texted her things that didn't matter in the present, things she didn't need to respond to right away, but it was easy enough for her to miss an important text, something that would get her in trouble. She sighed, telling her mother she would be home in an hour. (Skul, where is your quote from)

"Well, I do spread love and joy wherever I roam," Alex replied to Tori evenly, though his smile betrayed him - and turning to Oliver he bowed. "Honoured to be of service. Speaking of home though, where is home? I'm guessing you'renot so close to school if you use your bike. Or you just really hate walking. Oh, yeah, sorry; the interrogation is never really over," he added, but he wasn't going to feel guilty. They did offer him the chance to question back, after all. Not that he would feel guilty anyway.

Tori punched him lightly, muttering a quiet "BS" under her breath as he bowed, a small smile on her face as well. She had a soft spot for the guy- not a crush, no attraction at all, not really, just a... soft spot. She felt as if they where siblings. That was the best way to describe their relationship, really. She felt like he was the only real family she had here- never even considering the place she lived in home. Once she found a place to live she wanted to move out of the house and away from her mother and stepfather and never look back. There was just too much drama, not only with their high expectations of her- wanting her to go to medical school, they flipped when they found out she was going to major in Library sciences- but anything anyone said was an insult to her mother. It was aggravating. She frowned, not quite catching what he asked Oliver, too caught up in her own thoughts to have been paying attention to what was going on around her. She glanced at Oliver, waiting for the response so she could jump back into the conversation, hoping that she wasn't looking too distracted.

"Is the interrogation really ever over?" Oliver replied drily, eyebrows raising as he turned to look at the other two. He rocked back on his heels. "Home is Norway. If you're asking where my house is, though, it's," he paused, squinted, and made a vague motion with his hand. Whatever it meant, he clearly understood it, even if no-one else did. "About half an hour away from school. Just on the outskirts of town. Kinda by the lake thing? Whatever it is. Not big enough to be a lake, not small enough to be a pond. There's an apartment building there that has like. Old people and stuff. 'Nd then there's my family."

For sure, if his actual family was the one he was stuck with, Tori was the family Alex chose. She was the best friend he'd ever had, and the only best friend. Why, he couldn't really pinpoint. Their situations were rather vastly different, and while they did have some overlapping interests, they were far from the same in that way either. Nor was it like they never fought; on the contrary, they fought often, though made up again fast. Maybe they just met at the right time of something. Who knew. He'd found himself in every part of town at some point or another, so he did know where Oliver meant, and nodded in acknowledgement. Walking forward again, they headed through the trees, which led in a fairly straight line along park edge. They may as well walk the circuit of the park before heading out.
