"Spoilsport," Alex grumbled, and sat next to Tori, at an angle so he could see the both of his friends even when Oliver was sat behind. "And I resent being called a gremlin, little and evil or otherwise." He, too, never had much use for the public busses. With the exception of getting to school - for which the school bus was more of a time-saving convenience than an outright necessity - it was easy enough to walk places. He liked walking between places anyway, and was well used to it since he neither had any vehicle to drive nor had even learnt how.

"Second before last," Oliver told Tori, "don't worry, I'll make sure we get off at the right place," he then grinned at Alex and raised a single eyebrow. "You are a little evil gremlin. It's just fact," he shrugged lightly as he absently checked through his bag. Oh, yeah, he'd packed himself a lunch. That could sit in the fridge until Maja decided to raid it and either throw it out or eat it. One of those would happen sooner or later. "Especially the little part."

((don't encourage him, ari is gonna land everyone in jail))
"If it's nearby," Ari replied, looking up sharply when he felt Simon's touch. "Hey, wha -" Then he saw the trash can. "Oh." He should probably put his phone away, lest he gets himself run over by a car and die a horrible death. His gaze fell back to his phone, its seductive light calling him. Ah, well, he had someone who would probably pull him away before that happens. "Lead the way," he said, tapping a game app and turning his phone on its side. He was too far from the school to use its Wi-Fi, after all.

Tori, who was still sipping on her water, snorted, nearly spitting it out at Olivers comment. "Yeah, Alex, your a gremlin," she conceded, stretching her legs out so they rested on the back of the seat in front of them. She ignored, of course, the fact that she was called a gremShe glanced out the window, enjoying the pale, honestly bland, view. ---- Simon quickly retracted his hand, realizing the boy- whom he still didn't quite catch his name- was no longer on his phone. "It's this way, on first street," He explained, darting acrossed the road without any warning, barely looking to see if there was any cars. He wanted to get into his house as quickly as possible, hoping that there wouldn't be many questions as to why there was a strange boy In the house.

"Mm," Ari said, his gaze peeling away from his phone to find Simon already across the street. Maybe he should be paying more attention. Maybe. He trotted across the street, taking his time. It was a neighborhood near the school, after all, he didn't expect many cars. "Okay, two questions," he said. "1, how far is your house, and 2, what is your Wi-Fi password."

"Just a few houses down," He responded, glancing at the expansive yards, clearly uncomfortable in the neighborhood. Until the last year he had lived with his father in a small apartment just outside of St. Louis. It was simple, and comfortable to live in. He loved it there more than anything in the world, but he wanted to get into ____ College (not sure what state this is in), which had one of the best symphonic orchestra programs in not only the country, but the world. So he wrote to his mother, asking to live with them for the year in order to gain residency in the state. Now he was stuck with a ginormous house, with a pristine yard and a spotless house, where it was so stuffy he could barely breath. The only thing that made it bearable was that his Stepfather had some sense of humor. "Wi-Fi password is I-7778-34" He added.

"Cool, what are we waiting for?" Ari said, walking ahead of Simon as he looked around, mentally splitting the Wi-Fi password into the chunks I-777-834 to more easily memorize it. "Wow. I haven't wandered over to the wealthy side before," he remarked. "I think my stepsister has a friend over here. Never met them, though." He walked backwards as they passed a couple of houses. "Which one's yours?"

"Yeah? What does that make you two then?" Alex scoffed, kicking with one foot at the back of Tori's legs as she stretched them against the seat in front. He frankly couldn't be bothered to reach over the back of the seat to give his vengeance though, so compensated with a glinting glare instead. Good enough. "Fun-sized gremlins. Like the mogwai in that movie. Cute and fluffy until you get fed after midnight," he grumbled.

"I don't know what a mogwai is nor what you're talking about," Oliver told Alex lightly. "Please, Alexis, remember that I, a simple Norwegian, am not well-versed in American movies."
He grinned and reached up to press the bell to signal their stop, standing up before the bus had even stopped. "Come along, children. I'm going to make food and plug the console into the tv and then we should be good for the day, I think."
His phone buzzed in his pocket but he ignored it for now. If it was Maja or Eva trying to skip off school, then he'd just continue to ignore it. Today was his day to skip, because his school had burned down. Maybe it was a message telling him that the school burned down. Eh. If it was important, they'd call again.

"Yummm food. Do you still have that sweet stuff from New Years?" Tori asked, kicking Alex back lightly. "Okay, to be fair, I don't know what a Mogwai is either" she admitted. If she was going to be honest, she never paid much attention to movies. They often took her full attention to figure out what was going on, and she didn't have the attention span for any of that crap. She got up, stretching lightly before stepping off of the bus, wrinkling her nose slightly has some rain fell onto her. --- "Be lucky you haven't wandered over to this neck of the woods. It sucks here." He responded wryly. He still wasn't looking forward to telling his mom what happened at the school, and he knew she wasn't going to be happy about it, she may be rich but she sure was stingy. It took two years of begging to get that Cello, and now it was a pile of ash. He paused at some gothic style gates black iron mostly covered in ivy. "Here's the house," He told Ari, walking up the concrete steps to the walking entrance. He typed in a quick passcode, opening it and waving Ari in.

"Ugh. Neither of you are any good," Alex sighed, and stood with the others to alight the bus as it slowed to a stop. "Just trust me, the resemblance is there. In looks and nature. Their ears are huge," he mused vaguely, smiling. His dad was the movie enthusiast of the family, plus it was easy entertainment for a full family (although there was much talking over whatever they were watching that, cumulatively, they probably missed about half of it anyway), which made Alex something of a savant by relation. Seeing Tori's expression, he tilted his head up to the sky. "Let's move. I don't want to be drenched as well as tired and hungry."

Ari looked at the gates. And the enormous house. "Yeah," Ari deadpanned as he passed Simon, looking around at the interior. His entire apartment could probably fit in the living room. "It must really suck."
He looked back down at his phone and returned to his search results. "By the way," he said as he walked to the first piece of furniture he found and sank into the cushions, "I should probably ask you - does the name 'Rhodes' mean anything to you?"

Oliver touched his ears lightly and frowned a little at Alex as he put in the pin, only kicking the door long enough to let the other two in before he headed to the elevator and booped the button, then wandered over to collect his mail. Bills, bills, junk mail, bills, hospital bill (he panicked briefly), school tuition (another panic), more bills. He scowled at an official-looking letter from his sisters' school and wandered back to the elevator as it opened.
"My ears are not big," he said firmly, "if anything, you're the mogwai here."
He used his thumb to open the letter and entered the elevator, keeping his leg in front of the door so that he could wait for the others. Ah. Okay. He (well, his mother, but he'd go in her place) was being called to the school this evening to deal with Maja getting into a fight. This was wonderful. As if he didn't have enough on his plate.

Tori snorted as Oliver touched his ears, but elected not to respond to Alex, deciding that if she didn't give him a response he might not continue with this banter about "mogwais" or whatever. She glanced up and around the apartment, before returning her gaze to a clearly irritable Oliver. Confused at the shift of emotion, she signed to him 'what's wrong?' --- "Hey- don't sit there!" Simon hissed, grabbing the other boy by the arm and jerking him off in an almost panicked motion. He quickly fixed the couch, making it look untouched like before. "Also, please take your shoes off, Mother hates having dirt tracked in. We can sit in my room, and to answer your question that does sound like a familiar name." He added, taking off his own.

Ari blinked down at the comfy-looking couch, wanting nothing more than to dive back into it, then down at his shoes. "Whoops." Oh well. He toed off his shoes, pushing them near Simon's, and then shuffled across the floor of the house, looking around. "Good, it should," Ari said, then blinked. "Hey, that rhymed. Anyway, John Rhodes is a member of the city council. Important, probably," he said, showing the screen of his phone to Simon. "I mean, I think it's the dude who owns the lighter," he said, looking back at his phone. "There were a ton of J. Rhodes - he might be the mathematician guy, but this person lives closer to here." He tilted his head, tapping a new entry into the search engine and tapping. "Just like, drag me to your room, man - I'm trying to see if this John Rhodes has a Facebook or something, that'd make it easier to track him. Stalk him? I dunno - I'm trying to figure out why he'd burn down a school. That'd like, tarnish his name and that'd suck for a politician, right?"

Alex merely gave Oliver a sideways grin as they headed up to his apartment. He didn't pay any attention to Oliver sifted through the mail he'd picked up, and only glanced back over again when he saw Tori's signing hands. "Something up?" he queried vaguely, not noticing the shift Tori did. He was just oblivious like that. He was used to Tori and Oliver usually speaking and signing at the same time now (and theoretically that maybe should have meant Alex should have picked up something merely by repetition, but no such luck) and whenever there was only signs he'd fallen out of habit of asking. Partially because it was just a bit awkward having to be the one person who didn't know what was being communicated, mostly because it was usually something too small to be worth saying as well.

"This way," Simon responded with a sigh, walking through the house, feet echoing off of the stained oak flooring. This place was way to fancy for his liking, but he knew he didn't have much of a choice. He led Ari up the stairs, down another hallway, and then to the end of that hallway, opening a door to reveal a dimly lit, messy room that had a large, dark grey striped bed and a couple of bean bags. A few posters where on the wall- ranging from Beethoven to modern musicals and various "band kid" comics- during marching season he played the marimba for the band and had marched a few times with the cymbals- and there was sheet music mixed with homework assignments and long forgotten notes on the floor. He picked his way around the room, settling on the bed. "Excuse the mess." He added lamely, before turning his attention back to Ari. "Huh. What about kids? Maybe a spiteful son or daughter? Does he have a ton of enemies? What type of stuff has he passed?" He asked, mind going a hundred miles an hour. (Hows school been for you guys?)

"Hm?" Oliver glanced up and blinked as he pressed the button to his floor, leaning back on the railing. "Oh, uh," he paused to put his letters between his teeth to sign at Tori, before taking the letters out of his mouth and repeating the exact same for Alex's benefit. "Maja got in trouble and since I'm currently her legal guardian, I've gotta go meet with the headmaster."
Sometimes he wished he could get some more money for his sister to attend his school, but that just wasn't happening - already he was working to death, so it was better to just...let her go to the public school. She was getting along better with it anyway.
"And bills," he said, "always bills, but y'know how those go."
Or maybe they didn't. He didn't stop to check, just walked out of the elevator once it hit his floor and set to unlocking his door, before kicking it open lightly for his friends to go through first.

"Ahh," She responded sympathetically, well aware of how "bills went." One of the reasons why she got a job in the first place- she had gotten tired of her mother accusing her of sucking up all her money, and it only got worse once her heart problems showed up. So she started working, paying for as much of her own medical bills as she could, which, admittedly wasn't as much as she had hoped, but at least she and the insurance where contributing enough for her mother to stop complaining. She walked through the door and plopped onto the couch, happy to have sat down again, glad the walk to his apartment wasn't enough to get her out of breath, although her heart rate was elevated. "What are you going to do about Maja?" She asked, curious. (What do you guys use? We use an alphabetical system: A- above average B - slightly above average C- average D- below average F- just drop the class Fail)

( in my college it goes uhh fail - u gotta redo the test/exam u just took pass - acceptable merit - pretty good distinction - very good
in my old school though it was the alphabet system like A* = the best u can get A = above average B = average C = acceptable D = below average F = bad E = Death And Destruction
u know i once got a G on something. didnt even know g was a letter but there u go. i know someone who had a teacher who went right thru the alphabet and put his mark as 'z' because it was so appalling in the end tho it depends on what school u go to bc i did have a school at one point when i was a kid that used a number system )

((hi y'all!))
"I've seen worse," Ari said, careful not to step on anything as he made his way to a bean bag and heavily sank into it, enjoying the sound it created. "Anyway, yeah, he has a kid, according to his Facebook page - oh, geez, he's one of those guys that try way too hard to be 'cool'. How embarrassing." He tilted his head. "I wonder if this 'Alex' has an account on here," he muttered. Why does that name sound familiar? Ah, well.
"I mean, I haven't seen articles bashing this guy yet," he said, going to another tab and scrolling through the search results. "I bet the parents love him though - makes all these promises about security and stuff about delinquents or whatever, I don't know. Bet he'd hate me."
He frowned as he got back on Facebook. "Geez. Hate me and his kid. Look at this." He sprang up and walked over to Simon, showing him the screen. "He's, like, having a parently lecture over social media. What the heck. Apparently his kid's a troublemaker - how funny is that?"

"Really?" Simon said, interest piqued. He picked himself off of the bed and leaned towards him, wanting to see the article, unable to see it even when the kid came over, his eyesight not being the best . "I wonder if he's actually a trouble maker or not," the boy murmured to himself thoughtfully. He was well aware of how parents liked to make their child sound like the rebellious teen that all of the media portrays them to be, while in actuality most of the teens where genuinely good people, unsure of what they did exactly wrong.
"Whats the guys last name again? There's a lot of Alexes at our school," He added, going over to his bookshelf and picking up last years yearbook in hopes to find what this kid looked like. If this "alex" guy was the one responsible for burning down the school (and more importantly his cello) then this kid was going down.

"Rhodes," Ari said, tapping the side of his phone in thought. A frustrated teen burning down a school sounded more plausible than a member of the city council - unless the guy was trying frame a student to make a point about juveniles, but even Ari would have to say arson is a little on the extreme side. The kid could've stolen the lighter - family, close quarters, Ari wouldn't put it pass a student to snag something like that for a cigarette or two. Heck, it was totally something he himself would do. Ugh, how long has it been since he had one?
"If Alex goes to our school, it puts them higher on my suspect list. We're going to need to talk to them," he said thoughtfully. "Or maybe just the dad. There's a phone number on his webpage - should we give a call?"
