((the tent thing does sound fun
ok so the not being home is so perfect, but first, is there anything that can left at the crime scene that can be traced back to alex? (any small belongings, hw maybe, maybe he lost his phone)
also now we need a smart bully character))
"Who would do that, though," Ari muttered, his gaze lifting to follow the smoke. "Who would risk their life, and for what, to not go to school? Who hates school that much?" Well, me, he noted. I would totally do that. "It would've needed to be planned out," he murmured, studying the remains of the building. "Had to have a lighter, an escape route, and a rudimentary understanding of how fire and oxygen work..." Well. If he was going to do this, might as well go all the way, right? Otherwise the curiosity was going to gnaw at his brain into a painful mess.
"I'm going in" was his only warning to Simon before he turned on his heel and started walking swiftly, heading for the back of the school for a greater chance of fewer witnesses. He vaguely decided that the other student could come, too. He didn't feel like stopping them if they wanted to, that is.
Ari looked over his shoulder to check for wandering students and firemen - the odds were in his favor, turns out. He then easily scaled the fence, thanks to his height and a-little-above-average agility, thanking the universe that he wore pants that day, and dropped down on the ashy ground. "Time to look for evidence," he said, cracking his knuckles. While he knew there were going to be investigators tearing the place apart too, and that he couldn't send anything to a lab, he found the opportunity to sneak around too good to pass up. Something to get his heart racing, for once.

( ari: im not an investigator ari, 2 seconds later: time to investigate IM GOING IN lmaoo i love him
i mean he could have actually lost a lighter that was in some way distinctive enough to be traced back to him & if it was metal then it could reasonably have survived a fire quite easily too :0 )

(Your memes are the best tho XD omg Ari i love it XD) "You know, they don't need to know how fire works," Simon called out, scrambling after him almost like a scared pup not wanting to be far away from his home. The curly haired boy caught up to Ari, clearly uncomfortable with being in the wreckage. "All of the orchestra instruments where moved into the or of the abandoned science labs, imagine all of the wood, it would be easy to let the gas loose there and poof," the boy made an explosion symbol with his hands, brown eyes wide, "big fire. Wait- oh my god I left my Cello in there yesterday," he said, stopping mid step, eyes wide with horror. "That was my Cello! My parents gave it to me for my birthday,"
----- Tori frowned at the thought of walking that far to get to Olivers house, but followed along having nothing better to do. "I wonder where they are gonna stick us now," she commented, her stomach growling suddenly. She started, realizing she hadn't eaten today, too in a rush to get to class on time, nor had she taken her medicine, but at least she kept that in her bag in case she forgot to take it in the morning. She rummaged through her bag as they walked, grabbing a few bottles that she found, taking the pills out of them and getting her water as well, taking a swig, face scrunching as she swallowed the medicine, before putting it away.

"Oh no," Ari said with no feeling whatsoever. "That must suck." He entered the building through a burnt hole in the wall. "Be careful, it might collapse on top of us," he said, walking down the hall as if he were strolling down the street. "And, for your information," he continued, turning to face Simon, "fire follows the highest concentration of oxygen to its source." He pointed up. "So, if you have the building well ventilated, like opening all the windows, you can send the fire from the floor level all the way up. And fast." He gestured around them. "Look at this place. The entire building was burnt down. So." He maneuvered around a fallen ceiling beam. "This person knew what they were doing."
He looked over his shoulder, a little surprised and a little amused that the other was still following him. "Look for a pattern. We're looking for the point of origin," Ari said, studying the charred walls. "Or points of origin, which is more likely if it was arson." The V pattern he was currently following did seem to be leading to one of the science labs. The poor orchestra instruments.

Simon looked around miserably, fixing his glasses so he could see around the wreckage more clearly. He stuffed his hands in his pockets, muttering a "great, just great. We're wandering around the burned remains of the school. Pretty sure this is illegal, we could get expelled, can we even get expelled now?" He tended to ramble when he got nervous, leaping over what looked to be a chair, the 5'4" boy glancing around, looking for a point of origin, but unable to. "Looks like it's getting darker as we get closer to..." he paused, sighing."great. The Science rooms." (On this episode of: arson or writer?)

Alex nudged Tori teasingly as her stomach growled, but it was sort of an empathetic gesture too - he hadn't eaten anything either. To her question, he could only really shrug. "Who knows. Divide the grades and go to different places in town, maybe?" he mused, and shrugged again. "Portable buildings? Giant marquee? Wouldn't mind if they took their time figuring it out, though. The more time off, the better," he sighed. And a break from all the talk about college applications and tests and the now-cancelled theatre. He normally dealt with the lights for the productions, a role he only accepted after the last kid quit and undertook only under the condition that they expected as little as possible from him. And that condition was accepted probably only because it was easier than finding someone else and showing them what to do. Still, it was one less thing to worry about. And one much bigger thing for Tori not to worry about. Well, unless having Tori's having legitimate excuse somehow made her mother worse.

"Tents!" said Oliver, because he had to contribute something to the conversation. "Tents are great, y'know. All tenty and stuff."
He had fond memories of camping, but that wasn't really the point. The idea of being taught in tents was so ridiculous that he found it sticking in his mind. He continued to walk, squinting as he realised that he'd sprinted from the edge of town - oh well, distance be damned. Besides, his bike was in for repairs (a cost that he was so glad was being shoved onto his father). He cleared his throat as he turned to look at the two.
"If you two don't wanna walk to mine, I think I have enough for bus fares," he'd have to double-check that, but he was pretty confident. Had to keep money for three bus fares in case the girls wanted to come home early from school.

lol coolz oh alex ur gonna get into so much trouble))
"You didn't have to come in here," Ari pointed out, looking down at Simon. "Besides, as long as we don't get caught, we should be fine. Probably. Maybe. If we don't die in this mess first." He shrugged and continued through the soot-covered hall. "Maybe they did use the instruments as starter fuel after all," Ari hummed, tapping the door to the abandoned science lab. It crumbled into ash. "Then the wood in the building walls was enough for the fire to consume the rest of the place," he continued like that was totally normal, waving his hand in front of his face to shoo away the ash particles that flew up into the air as he ventured into the room. It was annoyingly dark, so he pulled out his phone to shine its light onto the floor. "Hey," he said, lifting the light to shine it around the room. "Is this the place the instruments were stuffed into?" He wrinkled his nose. "And why here, of all places?"

(-plays funeral march- rip the instruments) "I have some money for a bus fair too," she added helpfully, cheeks reddening when she realized they had heard her stomach. She ran a hand through her hair, wishing she had a granola bar or something in her bag, she usually had one just in case someone forgot to eat but evidently she had given it away recently. She sent off a quick text to her mom about the fire and going over to Olivers house, worry making her stomach tighten, no doubt she'll be hearing about how lazy the instructor must be, giving up just because there wasn't a place to rehearse. No doubt she would question Tori if it was actually true or if she was just making excuses to get rid of her commitment to theatre. Tori had been going at it with her mom once more, the night before they had gotten into a huge fight that included her mom throwing plates on the ground and a couple of cups at her, but luckily only one of them actually hit her, leaving a cut on her arm and a bit of a bruise. They would need to go shopping again to get stuff to eat on, maybe while the three of them where out she could grab some paper plates and plastic cups for the time being. --- Simon made a strangled sound at the sight of the burnt remains of the instrument room. "Yeah, this is it," he whispered, eyes wide as he stepped past Ari and into the charred room, stooping down to touch the ash. "These instruments are made out of very thin and refined wood, easy fire starters, it would make sense, really, for the Arson to start it here or on the theatre, where there's so much saw dust that if you lit a match it would go up in flames." He commented softly, walking around the room, wrinkling his nose at the smell of gasoline and burned wood, pausing when he saw something... "Hey, look at this..." he called to Ari, wiping away the dust to find a lighter. (It's like Sherlock homes in here)

((guess who's sherlock and who's watson ohmigosh please let there be a "no sh*t, sherlock" moment in our nearby future))
Ari nodded at Simon, pleasantly surprised that he wasn't the only one in the room spouting facts. "Hope you're not touching that with your bare fingers," Ari grumbled as he crouched down next to Simon, shining his phone down at the lighter, like a spotlight on the main actor. "Well well well, what do we have here?" he murmured as he poked a gloved finger at the little firestarter lying innocently in the ruins of its doing. He gently plucked it out of the ashes, scrutinizing the scorched metal, then looked around at the ruins of the room. "This must be the point of origin," he said.

"I... uh, don't," Alex admitted after checking his pockets, which was fated a dead loss really, since his only objective this morning had been getting to school even remotely on time and with his uniform on, and not much else. Plus, he usually caught the free school bus, so he didn't have much reason to carry around any spare change, and even if he did, it wasn't like he was the sort who would remember that sort of thing even on a good day. "Guess I'll just start running now, since I didn't tell you guys not to this morning," he grinned, but added more seriously, "I'll pay back. Promise."

"Don't worry about it," he shrugged lightly, heading towards the bus stop. Good thing there was a convenient bus soon, huh! "If my sisters never pay me back, you only have to pay me back if it's more than like, $10. Go over that and I'm gonna personally hunt you down."
Oliver turned on his heel and walked backwards so that he could look and talk to his friends as well as walk. He smiled with some amusement.
"Really, though, don't worry about payment," he shrugged.

She grinned back at Olivers commentary on Alex paying him back, lagging behind the others only slightly, beginning to get out of breath again. She frowned momentarily, before shaking away the thought- her medicine just hadn't kicked in yet, that's why she was getting so tired so fast. "I still say...we make him... run Ollie," she quipped, sticking her tongue out at Alex playfully. ---- "Well no sh*t Sherlock," Simon muttered, ignoring the comment of him not touching anything. He wiped the charcoal off on his pants, studying the room around him, looking for anything to pick it up with. Suddenly inspired he took off the jacket he had been wearing and picked it up with that, careful not to touch it with his hands. "C'mon we have to get this to someone,"

Not noticing that she was starting to lag behind a little, Alex shoved Tori lightly, sticking his own tongue out back at her. "Have mercy! I wouldn't even make it half way. Then you'd be sorry." Besides, he was good for it; he didn't like to owe anybody anything, even anything small. Although you'd think being like that, he'd be more conscientious about keeping at least a bit of money of his own on his person. On the other hand it was probably for the best, because in his house if you left anything of any value in the open - or even just in a coat pocket or anything like that - you could bet it wouldn't be there when you went looking for it next. His brothers could always be counted on to be scheming thieves towards each other.

"We could get a rope and tie him to the back of the bus," Oliver laughed, signing as he spoke. It was getting easier as he learned - especially considering that Eva was almost fluent already. What a good kid! He was so proud of her. "Run, boy, run," he smiled, eyebrows raising slightly. "Or when I get my bike back, I'll take him on a ride on that and see how well he copes. I break all the speed limits."
Like the rebel he was.

"F*ck you, Watson," Ari returned without missing a beat. He watched Simon collect the lighter in the jacket before standing up, turning the light towards their exit. "That is a good idea," he murmured. "Get it to them. Somehow. Without getting in trouble for being in the building." His gaze rolled back over to Simon. "It's cool. They'll figure it out on their own, they probably have people smart enough. I already got the name on the lighter. Let's -"
Muffled voices. F*ck. "Drop the lighter," Ari hissed. "We got to get out of here."

"Sounds like a plan," she respnded with a small smile, imagining him being tied to the back of his bike. "I have a..." she paused, signing the word for skateboard, unsure how to say it out loud. "We can use it and tie him to the back," She puffed out, trying to keep up with her. --- He snorted, pleased he got the reference. He froze, hearing the footsteps as well. "Follow me, there's an exit over here," he hissed, darting forward. He knew that there was a fire exit in the closet that they used as a practice room, and it opened to the football field. He paused, looking back to see if Ari was following him. He shook out his jacket, lighter falling to the ground. (Those people are the best people)

"Ha, I could outrun you. You'd have to take two steps for every one of mine, for a start," Alex grinned teasingly at Oliver. "I ain't going near you with a motorbike though, that's an unfair advantage. And I don't have a death wish. You guys are mean," he pretended to sulk, but couldn't really keep the amusement out of his expression.

"Please," Oliver snorted, "I am super speedy, especially if I cut you off at the knees."
Now, he stood by the bus stop, waiting ever-so-patiently for the bus to decide to make its appearance. He took out his wallet and counted out the money he'd need for two fares, considering he appeared to be paying for Alex's - though not Tori's, if he read the situation correctly.
"I love my bike and she would never hurt anybody," he said firmly, "she is kind and loving and can take me to the coolest place in this town, though I've never seen anybody else there so it's like, my own secret place. Joke's on you."

"Sure, sure - it's you I think I should watch out for, not your bike," Alex huffed under his breath, but he too glanced up curiously, as Tori signed what was in his own thoughts. "Please. I've lived here since forever. Ain't nowhere here I haven't been before," he replied with confidence. Well, that was what he believed, anyway. He'd been here enough years and made enough day-long - and night-long - wanderings for it to be possible, at least. But then, he didn't have a bike at his disposal either.
