Goodbye to a World
Often, you think of your old home. How amazing it was. How magical it was. How you fit into it perfectly, like a glove. Though your body is here on Earth, your heart is still back there, through the portal. Not a day goes by when your sense don't ache for the old sights and smells of your world.
It would be hard enough if you were just stuck here by accident. A spell gone wrong, perhaps. Or a vacation. An admittedly dull vacation, but it would be better than your current status- banished. You can't go back. And not because you lack the skills or portal space. They won't have you. Even if you showed up, there would no telling what would happen to you if you went back. You're trapped, in the nonmagical world of New York City, in a an old manor, hidden by spells you're not allowed to use, surrounded by people in the same situation you are. It would normally be a comfort to be with people from your world, but the fact is, you're not. You're all from different places across the Planes of Magic, and you haven't met anyone from your world yet. All you have is yourself, and your dwindling magic.
And of course, you have all your questions. Like how the spells work here with no magic, and what exactly the manor needs to be hidden from.

Plot ExplanationWhat we have here is a supernatural boarding house- not exactly a school, though there are a few introductory courses of sorts to help the new citizens of Earth learn about how things work here. The patrons here have been banished from their magical home worlds, and forced to live here. There can be a few different reasons, depending on both the character's history and the world they came from. Typically, most aren't criminals- maybe a few petty thieves here and there, but no killers. Those guys are in jail. The Magic Manor is more for problem children, people looking to hide, etc. The point is, they can never come back. They are free to explore the new city, however they do have certain restrictions. Typically, you have to stay in the manor from midnight to six at the very latest. The manor is also well equipped for different civilians of different worlds, for example a large lake as well as indoor swimming pool for people hailing from water-based regions. There are a few staff members who take care of the grounds and such, but other than that, the patrons are mostly on their own.
One part of this world that is absolutely undeniable is the fact that there's no magic. Patrons who can perform magic can only do so for a month or so before it disappears. They don't become ordinary humans, no. They keep any special markings as well as their potential for magic, as in once they get back to a place with magic, they can perform it again. That being said, most of the beings that come to the manor are humanoid based, with very very few exceptions.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Rules1. Follow the forum rules. You may review them here. 2. Despite the fact that these characters come from magic worlds, they still aren't Mary-sues. They aren't perfect or all powerful. That being said, no spotlighting, god-modding, or power playing either. Not everything will focus on your character all the time. 3. Try to be active at least once a day, preferably more. After a week of unexplained absent, you will be marked as inactive. Two weeks, deleted. 4. I know we're all still getting used to the new forums, but I think we can all manage at least a paragraph per post. 5. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! It's a fun concept, I think at least, and we should all be respectful to another here. Have fun!

Characters
Patrons:
Izrath 'Iz' Clearweaver || 18 || Male || Dreamwalker
He doesn't care very much about his appearance, and one look at him can tell you that. His hair, while fluffy and white like a cloud, almost always looks likes Izrath has a bad case of bedhead (which more often than not is the case). Even when he brushes it, it looks like that. His eyes, like most from his world, change colors constantly, but more often than not the main color is steel blue. He always has bags, from lack of sleep. He also is pale to the point where he looks almost look sickly- it's a little off-putting for new patrons. Izrath is on the taller side, standing at six feet, and only thanks to the training at he completed in his world of Nox does he manage to have somewhat strong muscles. Otherwise, he'd be as skinny as a stick. Izrath has taken up many hobbies to keep himself busy when he can't sleep. Patrons will often see him running around the manor, going from one activity to the next, to the next. It's even worse when he goes to the city, where there's always something to do. Thankfully, Izrath has enough mental capacity to keep track of all the things he's working on, and almost has it down to a science. He's basically the person to go to with favors because he will always 1. Have enough time to do it and 2. Despite the scruffy, loner appearance he's got going on, Izrath actually loves to help others out. He's a pretty good listener too, even if his brain is always going a mile a minute, trying to keep track of everything that's going on. He, unlike many others, doesn't currently feel a need to get back to his world- New York City has been a lot more welcoming to him, and his powers aren't exactly a force to be reckoned with. Sometimes, Izrath thinks he'd be better off without it. Contrary to their species, Izrath rarely sleeps. He's an insomniac, and typically only sleeps for three or four hours a day. When he does sleep, he doesn't really dream either. He isn't sure why. All he knows is that's why he was kicked out of Nox, a sleepy world where everyone leads two lives, one in their sleep and one while awake. Life while asleep, drifting from dream to dream, is more important to the Dreamwalkers. Izrath was ostracized for not being able to join them, and eventually, he was pushed into a portal to the manor by a few bullies. His powers of dream walking and occasional dream control will still work for the month that he has left connected to the magic of his world. Rosestar
Maximus Crane || 17 || Male || Summoner
Max stands at about 5'8", lean and lithe. His hair is short, a pale blond color, contrasting with his dark eyebrows and black eyes. His skin is light but not too pale, and he appears quite young with a charming-looking face. He really doesn't look like much and is not particularly built, in fact he is mostly lean but his broad shoulder make up for whatever he lacks in presence. Scars run up and down his hands and arms in dark patterns, reminiscent of runes that have faded over time. Max doesn't talk very much. He isn't a shy person, but finds it simpler to allow people to underestimate him if he keeps quiet and unsurprising. He seems like a neutral and smooth sort of person that can go unnoticed if quiet for too long. Although he's rather friendly and nice, he's also, surprisingly, not someone you'd want to get on the bad side of as he's very clever. Once you get to know him, it's obvious he's a huge dork. Max keeps to himself for the most part, but enjoys having a wide group of friends if he can manage it. Not really the best with confrontation and wont give up info that people don't ask for. Although very similar to humans, Summoners have a nice little ability to interact with monsters and creatures from different planes connected to their world. Max is of the demon summoning variety, and dips into the blood magic category for his abilities. This allows him to summon demons and temporarily gain their strength or work together with them. Without his magic though, he is the same as an average human save for his unusual eyes, which are entirely black with a yellow ring around the pupil. Being a Summoner, Max has traveled to quite a few other planets for various exploits connected to his rather strong family, who are sort of famous interplanetary mercenaries. He traveled to Earth on one such job and ended up stuck for just a bit too long, losing his magic and gateway home. His species strongly believes in self-reliance, so any sort of rescue is unlikely, as his failure is his banishment. The Blue Adept
Lathan Loscawr || 21 || Male || Swamp-Dweller
Compared to many of the other residents, Lathan is a bit more unusual-looking. At first glance he might appear rather human, but with just a bit of squinting it becomes quite obvious that he is definitely not. Generally, humans might put him into the 'cryptid' category. Relatively tall at around 5'10" in height, Lathan is lanky and lean, with greenish skin and choppy blond hair that looks faintly lime colored and often has a leaf or two stuck in it. He has pale eyebrows and orange eyes with slitted pupils much like a reptile. Lathan has two sets of gills; one on his neck and one on his abdomen, as well as claw-like fingers and toes that are slightly webbed. Despite his rather monster-like appearance, Lathan's teeth are blunt and he is not bloodthirsty. In short, Lathan is a very down-to-Earth guy, so to speak. He is carefree and kind and curious about the planet he is unfortunately stuck on, as well as the people and creatures that live there. His friendly personality may make him seem naive, but he is not so hard to fool despite his open-minded nature, although he most certainly can be gullible. He's a persistent guy that can occasionally get too wrapped up in something no matter how trivial, and cares maybe a bit too much. A good word for him would be passionate, and he can be rather emotional. He's a little intimated by the hustle and bustle of New York City and tries to stay as grounded in whatever nature he can find. Hailing from a swampy planet that is rich in flora and fauna, Lathan is accustomed to the leafy sceneries that a modern Earth city unfortunately does not provide. Amphibious in nature, Lathan can breathe underwater with ease and navigate marshland like nobody's business. He has a lot of jaw-strength and heightened senses, but the magic abilities of his species pertaining to the connection to plant-life is unfortunately gone. At least his survival skills are top notch. Lathan's homeplanet was dominated by warring species with far too much dangerous technology and magic on their hands, and inevitably his own was chased off. He is one of few left out there, and ended up on Earth by teleporter mistake. Unfortunately, he does not know where his family or friends are and will never be able to return home. The Blue Adept
Blake Belladonna || 17 || Female || Faunus
Blake is a young girl of light complexion. She has long, wavy black hair, and amber eyes, complemented by light-purple eye shadow flaring backwards. Her eyes are slightly tilted upwards at the ends, giving her a cat-like appearance. Blake wears a black ribbon tied in the form of a bow which she almost never takes off, even when she goes to sleep. The bow is a cover for her Faunus heritage, a pair of black cat ears. She wears a white v-neck zip-up shirt that is black along the bottom and has rolled up mid-length sleeves. Her belladonna flower emblem is printed in off-white on the left side of the shirt. She wears black pants that have a vertical grey stripe on the outer side of each leg, and she wears a black belt with them. Blake displays a cool, reserved, and serious personality most of the time, but doesn't lack a humorous side. Blake is a righteous person who has respect for other people's lives. Regardless of whether they are Faunus or not, she treats everyone equally and strongly despises those who judge and discriminate based on racial prejudice. She is shown to be an introvert, as she prefers to be alone rather than socialize. Even in a group, Blake usually stays to the shadows, excluding herself from conversations. She also enjoys reading books, and is prone to ignore others when she's engrossed in one.Despite her introvert personality, if challenged on her beliefs, she can easily lose temper, causing her to speak her mind without thinking of the consequences. She is also scared of people finding out about her Faunus heritage, as back in her world, it was not a good thing to be found out about. Blake is a Faunus, which, in her world- Remnant- is a species of humanoid people with physical animal traits. They are able to see in the dark, which can be an advantage during combat. Her power is known as a semblance in her world, which is a manifestation of one's innate and personal power as an ability unique to each individual. The nature of one's semblance is noted to represent an aspect of their character. Blake's semblance allows her to create shadow-clone's. These clones can be used by Blake to either distract, shield, or hide herself from the enemy for a brief amount of time. Because she's a Faunus, she shows above-average agility and endurance yet maintaining motion and energy without fatigue. She also exhibits a high level of skill when handling Gambol Shroud- her personalized weapon. She can slash away at opponents with startling speed and deflect incoming bullets using just her blade. There are three forms to Gambol Shroud. When sheathed, the weapon is able to slice opponents in two with its cleaver-like cover. When unsheathed, it becomes even deadlier, and Blake is able to use both the blade and sheath in tandem against her opponents. In her world, where Faunus's were regarded as a threat to the human population, Blake was born into an organization known as the White Fang, which fought for Faunus rights. However, their protests turned from quiet protests to open rebellion and violence upon the change of a leader. Although Blake was an active member of the White Fang, she decided one day that she will not use her skill as an aid to their violence. She exited the organization and began training, wanting to make the world a better place. She found teammates and people to help her along the way during her training days at an academy, but the peaceful days didn't last long and the nation of Remnant was plunged into warfare, part of it being caused by the White Fang. After a dreadful battle, with her friends injured, and the buildings around her on fire, Blake disappeared. And when she woke up again, she was here. Here in this boarding house, unknown of how she arrived. But perhaps, it was to find a solution to her quest? SilverSleuth
Artemisia Pinna || 19 || Female || Gorgon
Artemisia is of average height standing around 5’3 and she has green hair that falls to her chin and bangs that reach her eyebrows. Her hair will turn into snakes when she unleashes her full potential however and the two long strands of hair that frames her face and reaches her collarbone are the longest snakes she has. Her eyes are yellow but turn red when she uses her ability and her skin is quite pale as she hates being tan. She tends to wear girly clothing or something trendy that flatters her thin frame. She always wears pilot goggles that often stay on the top of her head but when she sleeps she wears them over her eyes because they negate her powers which sometimes she uses in her sleep. Artemisia also has a pair of green wireless headphones that she wears around her neck so that she can listen to music which she loves. Artemisia is energetic and bubbly but she is also short tempered. If someone gets on her nerves she will often turn them to stone for a few minutes to allow her to cool off and calm down. She can be childish at times, messing with people by turning them to stone so that she can move them to somewhere else before turning them back. Artemisia is a gorgon just like the ones from Greek mythology only more human looking. She looks like an ordinary girl other than her eyes which brings us to her powers. When her eyes turn red, she can turn anyone looking at her eyes into stone for about a few hours. Using her powers like this her hair won’t turn into snakes but when she aims to permanently turn someone to stone her hair will turn into snakes and the snakes’ red eyes will strengthen her powers. The two longest snakes she has are like her pets and can turn into snakes at any time and not turn people into stone. Their names are Hibi who is on her left and Ki who is on her right. Artemisia is from the realm of gods where she served the gods and goddesses. One day she angered a goddess by turning her to stone for a minute on accident. Her punishment was to be banished for her slip up. ɢнoѕтlιɴɢ
Celeste Stryth || 18 || Female || Firebird
If you were to meet Celeste for the first time without any knowledge of her, you would say she is the reincarnation of the Phoenix itself, remarkably in human form. Her eyes are that of a smoldering ember that has sparks of dark red, lava orange, and smoke black that are constantly flaring in her eyes. Her hair resembles that of pitch black, layered feathers that end with gold hues that reach towards her chin. She is 5'6 in height has darkly tanned skin from her exposure to the constant sun that was in orbit under her planet among other factors. The back of her neck and shoulders have feathers adorned on them that match her hairs texture and quality. If you were to look at her back and left shoulder closely, you would notice a large running scar that increases in width and length around her shoulder blade. Clothing wise she wears fitted tank tops with a cropped leather jacket that has the sleeves cropped as well. Normally she wears shorts of various colors that have a high low skirt attached to the back by a belt she normally fastens with all her outfits. She prefers to remain barefoot since, on her planet, there was never need for shoes. On days of extreme heat, she wears a gauntlet of sorts on her right hand that she brought with her to the manor. You may also notice that with her shirts and jackets, there is a noticeable hole ripped in the right shoulder blade area. This is so her right wing can breathe when she is wearing tops that aren't open backed. While she attempts to be friendly and welcoming to others, Celeste is rather distant to those in the manor. On her home planet, she had a rather tight knit group of friends she had know for years. The sudden isolation and banishment has left her in a broken state, much like her body is. She is still coming to terms with everything, and doesn't honestly understand how others around her act. While she does have emotions, Firebirds are know to rely on only a few of them: aggression, rage, impulse, fury, and passion. Being calm, reasonable, or patient were not options she had before. For the most part she is trying to relearn those emotions and get back into touch with them. As a Firebird, she was known in her community as being confident, outgoing, and a natural leader. Now, she feels as those she has been stripped from those rights. And now, she must rediscover, or reinvent herself, just like a Phoenix would. While Firebirds do resemble and have ancient ties to Phoenix's, they cannot due the sacred act of rebirth like their ancestors once did. Firebirds are seen as ill omens in most worlds, but can also bring new hope with their powers of fire and flight. Their wings, hands, and feet can ignite and be used in combat or in survival to keep themselves alive. If trained properly, they can manipulate volcanoes and wildfires to their advantage. Some Firebirds even have a second set of wings, but it is a rather rare trait to have. Most, however, do not have beaks or bills of have type. Talons and assorted placement of feathers are rather common to have and add to the beauty of their race. They can be rather arrogant and stubborn as most reign from noble lines. If you were to asks why Celeste was here in the manor, she would reluctantly say that she deserved it. Her banishment was caused due to her failing to complete her final training mission to become part of the Firebirds Flight Militia. While trying to deliver a valuable package of supplies, a dormant geyser erupted beneath her and tore apart her left wing, causing her to not only lose her wing and the supplies, but all the honor and respect she had earned. Her family is within the second tier of nobles in their citadel, and having the report come to them that their oldest daughter failed her final mission brought them to tears. Not because she had lost her wing on accident, but that she brought shame to her family. The only way to resort that was banishment. Unlike others, Celeste prefers to stay in the manor. She doesn't leave often, and when she does it's only during the evening. She also has a nervous habit of burning her hands when speaking to others. From her understanding of the manor and how this world works, she bleieves her right wing might dissapear after a month of being in the manor, which she is dreading the most out of anything. Featherleg
Nubi || 17 || Female || Faunus Nubi is a petite, curvy young girl, with light brown skin, and wide dark brown eyes. Nubi has fluffy, and very curly black hair that falls about her face. Being a doe faunus she is unable to hide her soft brown ears that flop over her hair. However she usually successes in hiding them in the curls. Nubi has a beautiful, round face with freckles over her nose and cheeks. The bottom of her nose is tinged slightly darker than the rest of it and he she has pale, full lips. She has exceptionally long eyelashes and thick eyebrows. Nubi is a genuinely gentle, and compassionate person. She cares deeply for the feelings of her peers and rarely makes decisions for groups because of this. She's a kind, trustworthy person to approach if anyone needs a shoulder to cry on, or advice. Nubi doesn't like relationships and often tries to avoid men as much as possible. Frightened by the thought of relationship commitment. She's also a tad bit sensitive and can cry easily if her feelings are hurt. Faunus are humans who take on physical animal traits, she specifically has advanced hearing and is quick on her ceet, despite her shorter, and her muscular legs. So you could say she is quicker than others her specific height. Nubi doesn't feel comfortabke talking about her banishment, she hadn't done anythinf wrong..she jist didn't make the cut. Nubi had failed to complete a complex race for the finish amongst her leaner, and faster counterparts. Coming in a unfortunate 8/10, she was deemed unworthy of thr expectations that came with graduating the classes. She sometimes tells herself it wasn't fair. Since she had exceltionally great grades and a positive attitude, one slip up ruined it for her. Her family and counterparts velonfed to a vast, forested area on enormous mountain surrounded by smaller, other islands. How such species came to exist there remains a mystery to today's students. Their land is lush and vegetation is sweet and edible. However, Winters are vritally cold and are the highest factor of fatalities in the tribes. NotSoNapstablook

Madam Sage Merriweather || 54 || Female || Light Fairy
Though most fairies don't age, her time on Earth has done a number on her- she has wrinkles and smile lines like any other old human woman. Unlike older human women, her hair color remains the same, a golden, sunny yellow, and her eyes are bright chocolate brown. Her wings are her most interesting feature- clear as glass, with a purple tint to them. She's rather short for an older woman, standing at five feet two inches, and if she wasn't so well respected around the manor, it would be hard to take her seriously. Despite of a love of the Earth, she rarely leaves the manor. Her job is here, and this is where she stays. Madam Merriweather is dedicated, kind, and just, perfect for organizing and keeping watch over a manor full of troublesome young adults. She rules with a firm hand, but everyone knows that the second something goes wrong, Madam Merriweather will be the first to be there, offering advice and some chocolate. She's also very intelligent, so she tends to believe that she's always right. Most of the time, she is, but that doesn't change the fact that occasionally the residents will get in a little bit of trouble due to her stubbornness. Most have easily forgiven her for these little moments. While fairies are almost common knowledge as mythical beings on Earth, Madam Merriweather's species is a little more specific than just a winged human. She is a Light Fairy, born into the guardians of light and knowledge. She was born with a love of learning and a thirst for justice. Asides from flight and drawing energy from the sun, which she can do with or without magic, she can summon balls of light, use telekinesis, and use spells for fast reading and pulling specific information literally out of thin air. Like all fairies, she can also perform basic spells when magic is available. Unlike many of the others at the Magic Manor, Madam Merriweather chose to be there. When she was younger, she visited Earth and the manor when she with her brother, who was destined to take over the manor from their uncle. However, when her brother hated the world and the lack of magic it had to offer, she stepped in and volunteered. Occasionally, she will visit her family or vice veras. This normally keeps her magic active, thus she can perform simple duties around the manor. She is the head of staff, and is the sole keeper of the portal room in the basement. Rosestar

Plot Information
Currently, we are aiming towards this larger plot- A new character who just fell through the portal is from a world that works in tandem with Earth. They announce that the Planes of Magic are under attack. They came to build an army and use the magic on Earth to fight back- only just when they're beginning to form a team for the cause, they vanish.
Ideas and brainstorming among members is encouraged! There's a lot of potential for interesting story-lines here; everything from prophecies to conspiracies can go in a place like this.
