Stonesong had been painfully aware of Ashrock moving in her general direction during the meeting. She didn’t turn to look towards him or call his name. The hurt from their conversation still stung. She went to pay her respects briefly to Stormfury and Moonpetal before stepping off to the side. She hadn’t be close with Moonpetal or Stormfury but their loss was still hard. She let out a sigh. Perhaps she should volunteer for an early patrol.

Ashrock stayed clear of Stonesong as she went to pay her respects, he didn't want to interrupt the vigil with his sour presence, but one she moved off, Ashrock got up to intercept her. "Uh, Stonesong," he swallowed, tail flicking. For a brief moment, he looked around to make sure no one was paying attention to them. "Can we...talk?"

Fuzzypaw pulled away from Lightpaw as the meeting dispersed. She stared sadly at the body of Stormfury, laid out in the camp as if he were asleep. She didn't feel as if she could approach him, not having known him well. Walk safely in StarClan, she prayed silently. She looked up at the darkening sky. You too, Moonpetal. She then withdrew to the edge of the camp to watch the stars come out for a while.
Oakfall approached Stormfury's body, dipping his head to the dead tom. He had respected the former WindClanner greatly, and knew ShadowClan would be lesser for his loss. It felt strange, holding vigil for Moonpetal with no body to bury, so he looked to the faint glow that remained on the horizon instead. After paying his respects, he retired to the warriors' den after Waspflame.
Featherkit was still angry with Pinekit, but noticed the somber hush that had overtaken the camp outside of the nursery. She shifted a little, looking up at Songbreeze. "Is it time to say goodbye?" she asked in a small voice.

Raccoonmask looked guilty for a moment, Cedarstar looked just as tired as she was but she knew she wouldn't make it out of the den without his help. "Thank you Cedarstar." she rasped, trying her best not to put too much weight on him.
Cherryvine glared at the ground as Cedarstar approached with Raccoonmask, the queen refusing to look at the other she-cat.
Raccoonmask's heart fell as Cherryvine pointedly looked away as she approached. "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry Cherryvine. It should have been me."

Songbreeze flattened her ears. She thought Cherryvine would come get the kits to say goodbye, it didn't seem like the queen was coming. "Yes," she mewed quietly. It sounded like the vigil had started. Songbreeze slowly stood, motioning with her tail for Grovekit and Flowerkit to stay put. With gentle brushes to Pinekit, Featherkit, Mistkit, and Hailkit, she started for the den entrance.
Cedarstar flattened his ears as Cherryvine wouldn't look at Raccoonmask and his fur prickled at Raccoonmask's words. "I don't want to hear that talk," he tiredly scolded Raccoonmask. "It shouldn't have been either of you, but saying you should've been in Stormfury's place disrespects his sacrifice. We're here to honor him, not spoil his life with regret."

Grovekit scowled tightly as she was told to remain back while the other kits were led out. She knew that Stormfury was their father, so they needed to go say good-bye, but it still made her sour to know that they had been able to know a father to say good-bye to. She shook her head with a huff, before she turned to console a still crying Flowerkit. The news of Stormfury's death frightened the gentle tom kit silly. He sniffled. "W-what if Starclan gets me next?"
"It's not gonna get you." Grovekit shook her head protectively. "I won't let it, right? You'll be just fine." She promised, able to calm down her brother more easily than most others. He stuck close to her pelt like a burr, but Grovekit didn't mind it one bit. She could take care of the both of them all by herself!
Waspflame settled into his nest, though he looked up as he saw Oakfall slipping into the den. Waving his tail once, he rasped. "I'm going to try and get on a morning patrol. You want to see if we can get on the same one? I think I've had enough adventuring with cats on patrol that aren't-" You. He was going to say, but he quickly chose another few words instead. "-taking it seriously for my tastes."

"R-right." Raccoonmask whispered. She dipped her head to touch her nose to his shoulder. "Thank you for saving me, I'll never forget you or what you did for this clan."
Cherryvine almost hissed as Raccoonmask reached out to touch her mate but stopped herself at the last moment. She didn't need Cedarstar scolding her too.
Duskpaw settled behind Whorlpaw, praying to Starclan for Moonpetal and Stormfury.
Mistkit sighed, getting to her paws and following after Songbreeze.
Hailkit stumbled as he got up but followed after them. "I don't know if I want to see him," he mumbled.

Cranekit awkwardly sniffed and leaned away from Pearlkit. "I don't think I want to watch the meeting. I- I don't want to see Stormfury." he mewed quietly, not understanding why she seemed so energetic. Sandflower joined Lionscorch, Ferretclaw, Cliffheart, and the SkyClan cats at the camp entrance. "I'll do everything I can to get us all safely to SkyClan," she reassured the grumpy medicine cat. Despite his attitude, Sandflower admired how deeply he cared about Lavendersky and SkyClan. (Fire, do you want Sandflower back? Haha) Pearlkit deflated with a sigh, "Oh, I didn't think about that..he was kinda like a second dad to you right? I'm sorry Cranekit." Cranekit hung his shoulders as the other kits left the nursery to say goodbye. "I already miss mother. Kestrelgaze is my father, but I'll still miss Stormfury, too." Shortcloud sighed as the vigil began and cats gathered. She looked to Brittlefoot with inquiry. "Do you want to sit vigil for Stormfury and Moonpetal?" She didn't know either cat deeply, but they were deserving of respect regardless. Cinderspeck shuffled his paws and moved away from the vigil. A part of him felt that he didn't want to get involved until the fallen warriors' closest companions paid their respects.

Cedarstar flicked his ear twice. He glanced back at the medicine den, Snowdance would probably want Raccoonmask back in a warm nest instead of out here in the cold, damp night. "I can help you back," he offered quietly. "Unless you want to hold vigil longer." If Raccoonmask wanted to be back in the medicine den, he planned on returning to hold vigil afterwards. Songbreeze slowed when she heard Hailkit's quiet murmur. "You don't have to," she mewed gently. "You can remember him as he was when he was alive. It's up to you." Her thoughts drifted to Ratmask and Sandflower. Moonpetal's body wasn't in camp, so there was no way for the brother or mentor to find closure in her death if that's how they found it. She realized she had been thankful to have her kits however briefly. At least she could say she held them.

((Sorry on my phone)) Cloudscar had turned to reply to Falcontalon, but his response was cut short by Lightpaw’s outburst. The tom’s gaze snapped to the ground and despite his best efforts he was unable to stop his front paws from trembling slightly. His thoughts whirled as a sense of guilt settled in his chest. He glanced over at Stormfury, unsure of whether he should sit vigil or not. Cherryvine raised her tail to Cloudscar as the meeting dispersed. "Cloudscar, come sit with me. He looked up to you greatly as his first mentor here." she mewed trying to make her voice even. "Thank you for making him feel welcome." Cloudscar dipped his head gratefully and padded over to Cherryvine, settling down next to her. “Thank you.” He whispered under his breath. He pressed his nose to his son’s fur, holding back the true weight of the grief crashing down on him in waves. He felt as if he could see Stormfury’s life in scenes that played over and over again in his mind. Meeting Stormkit on the WindClan border for the first time, seeing Stormpaw at gatherings, the day Stormfury’s came to ShadowClan. IF only they had had more time. Their tattered bond had begun to mend, but too slow. He had been too slow. Slowly, unwillingly, he lifted his head again. Hollyvine padded over to Stormfury’s and said a short prayer to StarClan. His poor kits she thought. They’ll never know their father. Not really. She glanced towards Lynxdapple, suddenly a bit more grateful that she still had him in her life. Pinekit followed his siblings silently, tail drooping.

Pearlkit looked at the other kits leaving the den. She settled in one of the empty nests with a sigh, "Well, I'll sit with you in here then until the others come back. I don't want you to have to sit here alone."
~
Raccoonmask sighed, "I should go back to the den, Cardinalblaze won't be happy if he finds out I was out here too long."
Mouseclaw padded over, dipping his head to Cedarstar and his sister. "I'll help her back to the den Cedarstar. Please take a rest."
Hailkit stayed at the entrance of the den for a moment, peaking out at the crowd of cats gathered around his father. Seeing his mother out there next to his motionless body made him frown, wanting to be close to her. He whimpered quietly, rushing out from the den and hurtling to his mother's side with a cry.
Cherryvine jumped as Hailkit slammed into her side, she looked at her son in shock but quickly wrapped her tail around him. "Oh! Hailkit, my little one, shhh it'll be okay." she mewed trying to keep her voice from cracking.
Mistkit approached the vigil slowly, her eyes taking in the cats and listening to the words they offered up to her father. When she reached his side, she pressed her nose into his fur. "I'll see you again." she whispered.

Pinekit approached Stormfury’s body slowly and laid down as close to his father as he could manage. “I wish you didn’t have to go.” He said quietly, trying to hold back a sob. He had so m any questions for his father that would now go unanswered.

While he may have had no faith in Starclan, he never denied their existence. Even if he wouldn’t go to where Stormfury and Moonpetal were when he died, surely, he certainly could honor the incredible lives they lived, the cats they were. He padded towards Stormfury’s body, frail legs trembling as he sat down and murmured to Shortcloud. “We owe it to Stormfury to keep his memory strong. To be like he was, to be Shadowclan.”

Cedarstar flicked his ear twice when Mouseclaw padded up. He felt responsible for Raccoonmask with the state she was in. If he hadn't gone to the moonstone maybe Stormfury and Moonpetal would still be alive? But he nodded to Mouseclaw and stepped away for him to tend to his sister. As he had told Raccoonmask, he couldn't spoil the night with regret.
Cedarstar startled a second when Hailkit and Mistkit came up. He pinned his ears back and guilt ripped through him at the thought of how Stormfury was robbed of the chance to see his kits grow, to be a father to them. Cedarstar's gaze drifted to Whorlpaw and Duskpaw. It terrified him to think of his kits being fatherless. Of him not being able to be there for them. It's all I ever wanted. Cedarstar slowly sat down and tucked his paws under him to start his vigil. I wonder if Stormfury wanted the same. He sighed and his ear flicked twice again in the guilt of how he initially treated the former WindClan warrior. I'm glad I was wrong about him.
Whorlpaw lightly flinched when Stormfury's kits came out of the nursery. She couldn't help but peek up at them. It wasn't fair.
Songbreeze sat back so the kits could be with their mother and father one last time. She kept her gaze on her paws. The whole scene made her ache for her own kits and she suddenly wished Lionscorch hadn't been selected for the SkyClan patrol. He's protecting my father, she convinced herself. That's where he's needed.

She pawed absently at the moss in the nest, huffing. “But I guess you can stay if you want to.” “I want you here.” Flowerkit sniffled softly, pale green eyes trailing over to Pearlkit as he gave a miserable tremble.

Vipertooth nodded. “I was out with Burninghope and Hazelblaze, burying crowfoot and I hurt my claw somehow. It’s swollen and warm.” She explained, holding out her paw for the other cat to inspect. As the Clan dispersed to start the vigil, Crystalsight carefully moved her paw to lift Vipertooth's, looking very closely as she hummed. She paused, grimacing lightly. "I think I see something lodged in there. It's small, easy to miss, but it's probably something made by twolegs." She looked even closer. "It's not a thorn, it shines a bit. But, besides even that, I think just burying all that Carrion probably kicked up an infection. I'm not sure, but Snowdance can tell you for sure what can help fix it. But, I know something's lodged in there, so that's not helping one bit with the soreness." She nodded once. Vipertooth flinched at the information. She flexed her toes apart again and finally spotted the small shard of whatever it was. "I'll go see Snowdance, then, hopefully she isn't busy." she commented and turned to head for the medicine cat den. She pushed into the den and looked around for the medicine cat. After a moment, she called out. "Snowdance?"

Cranekit was quiet for a moment. "...Thanks," he muttered to the younger kit, laying down and resting his head on his paws. He couldn't be too angry with her. Not when everyone was so sad.
"You're absolutely right. Stormfury earned his place as a ShadowClan warrior. Dare I say that we were too harsh on him?" she questioned quietly, bowing her head in respect. "And poor Moonpetal... I wish we were able to lay her to rest."

I’ll regret it for the rest of my life. I have no room to talk about worthiness of a Shadowclan Warrior when I’m two bad leafbares away from being completely unable to use my legs.” He scoffed, blunt when he made fun of his own disability. He sobered up quickly. “It’s like the world is against us…”
