Russetshade side glanced at the younger warriors and huffed. "Climbing trees is for SkyClan, don't you think? Besides, I've spent enough time in trees when we were caught by the flood. Why don't we try by the ThunderClan border?" She partly shrugged. "They tend to always have enough prey to go around."

He nodded his head, "Worth a shot, at this point I'd be pleased bringing home rats." His reply was somewhat playful. He was also trying to remain positive. He lifted his paws as he tried to venture further, to get past the mud. "We could also try climbing some of these tree's. There has to be at least one squirrel hiding out up there." He says now looking up at the tree tops. "Maybe we can't taste them in the air because its too high for the scent to carry." Hollyvine grimaced. She was awful at climbing trees, though she was too embarrassed to admit it. Though, she knew that she needed to improve that seeing as trees might be the only escape if a Prey-Mauler showed up. She swallowed, but steeled herself. “Yeah… that could be possible.” She glanced back at Russetshade then, curious for the older Warrior’s thoughts. (Ive never done a 3 person roleplay, so I apologize if I don't do well) Raccoonrunner also looked at Russetshade, his whiskers twitching as he waited to see what the older warrior would decide. He looked between the two, "Im just afraid if I climb the tree I wont be able to get out very far on branches without snapping them."

Brittlefoot had approached the nursery around the same time Smokestorm had found his way back to it as well. Though, once Brittlefoot realized that Smokestorm was frozen in front of the entrance, the frail tom seemed to snicker both jokingly and sternly. “What? Are you afraid of the den or something, Smokestorm? Either deliver the moss or move a bit to the side so I can go see my sister and her kits. You know. The ones that are also yours?” He lifted a brow, before swishing his kinked tail. Snakesong, while making sure her kits were feeding, was also doing her best to keep Grovekit from running out into camp. Snakesong had to quietly shush her each time she loudly asked if Stormfury was okay. Her heart ached as Flowerkit made noises of sadness, seeming to assume the worst as he tended to do. The fearful tom stuck close to Songbreeze, clearly upset. Cardinalblaze shook his head a bit shyly, still not used to being called the deputy even though he knew he was. He mewed. “You can still call me by my name, you know. No uh. No titles needed, unless another Clan’s asking, you know?” He shook the awkwardness away, instead nodding. “With all the camp rebuilding, and now the very blatant threat with the prey-maulers, I’m thinking everyone needs to be at their top fighting shape here on out. I want to see if we can start doing group training sessions. Not just apprentices, but the Warriors too. And I’ll definitely be able to use Tigerfury’s help with that… and if you’re willing to help me plan it out, I think it might work. I’ve been uh. Thinking alot, really. A whole lot.” He murmured, knowing he had to prove he could be Shadowclan’s deputy, especially during such difficult times. Smokestorm jumped a few centimeters in the air when Brittlefoot spoke. He whipped around, eyes as wide as orbs. "What?" He gasped through the moss, but ended up choking on it. "I-I mean, I wasn't, uh. I was just..." He looked rapidly around the den entrance for any excuse. "I was making sure I wouldn't trip. Look." He brushed his tail across the empty floor. "All clear," he chuckled awkwardly. Pinning his ears back, Smokestorm forced himself into the den. He had to pause again for his eyes to adjust, but his fur rose and he lowered his head. He looked under his paws to make sure he didn't step on anyone. He spotted Snakesong in the back of the den and his head lowered with a sigh. Why'd she have to be all the way back there? Each slow and careful step Smokestorm made him look like some lumbering opossum. He didn't put his paw down unless he checked three times that he wasn't going to step on a kit. Songbreeze wrapped her tail around Flowerkit. "Grovekit, come back here," she called softly. She wasn't sure what was going on outside, but the commotion didn't sound good and there was the slight hint of SkyClan scent in the air. "We need to stay in the nursery today." She glanced over at Brittlefoot and Smokestorm when the toms came in. While Smokestorm looked ridiculous, she hoped the toms would be able to tell them what was going on. Littlemoon twitched her whiskers in amusement. "Tigerfury would be honored to help train apprentices. That's his dream, you know." She tilted her head when he asked for her help. She wasn't sure what she could contribute. "I'll help you however you need, Cardinalblaze." A glisten of teasing entered her blue eyes. "Just be careful you don't think yourself into a coma. You already proved you're a capable deputy after what happened with the flood. Don't think you need you haven't." Brittlefoot blinked once at Smokestorm, not sure if it was humor or frustration he felt towards the other tom. He knew that Snakesong was absolutely smitten with him, and he had broken her out of her shell in so many ways. Brittlefoot would always appreciate him for that. Yet… he just seemed so utterly incapable of realizing he was a father now. Brittlefoot padded in the nursery after him, giving Snakesong a soft look as they approached. “Oh! Smokestorm. Brittlefoot.” Snakesong mewed softly with relief, just happy to see them even as her heart ached. She swallowed, voice soft as rain as she asked. “Is… did they find…” She trailed off, having a sinking feeling that her question was already clearly answered. She curled her frazzled tail around her kits, still very young and mostly concerned with just feeding and sleeping. Grovekit scowled as she padded back to Songbreeze. She huffed, the large she-kit complaining. “Nobody ever tells me anything! I’m a big cat, I can handle it!” She urged. Cardinalblaze felt his heart flutter at her words, touched that she had faith in him. He had done what he thought was right knowing that Cedarstar couldn’t be there. And for the entire time, he feared if he had done the wrong thing, or had done it imperfectly. He looked at Littlemoon, voice light as he asked. “You… really think that I did alright? I just. Going to Skyclan with Cliffheart during the fire, I remembered how much steeper the land is there. It was the first thought on my mind, so I took it and ran with it. And when patrols were still missing, I couldn’t leave them… I couldn’t. But I was… unsure if I really did the right thing.” He stiffened, embarrassed that he was admitting all this when the last thing the Clan needed was a nervous tom parading as their deputy. “Sorry. I know that’s probably the last thing you want to hear, but. That means alot, what you said.”

Hollyvine looked between Russetshade and Raccoonrunner, before she added in. “Well, if we’re concerned with the branches snapping, then Russetshade might be right. Let’s try the Thunderclan border, and when we get back to camp, we can suggest trying some hunting in the pine trees, maybe with some cats more comfortable with climbing?” She offered, inwardly preferring the Thunderclan border above all else.

Snowdance had been watching Cedarstar closely when he had suddenly changed again, her ear flicking as took in the differences in his appearance again. It didn’t seem to surprise her as much as it had the first few times this had happened, and now she just wanted to figure out why this seemed to keep happening. Her attention quickly turned to Cliffheart when he suddenly spoke up and she quickly moved over to his side to inspect and look him over, “Don’t move too quickly, Cliffheart. Your muscles and joints are going to be a bit stiff.” She said, sitting back after her inspection. Snowdance glanced between Cedarstar and Cliffheart, not feeling very comfortable sending the warrior to another territory just after he had awoken from a long sleep. “If he goes, I don’t want him to go alone. You have to send at least a warrior or two with him to make sure he can make it back safely.” She mewed firmly, looking at both Cedarstar and Spiderbite as she spoke. Snowdance stood and padded over to her herb store, “For a healthy warrior, this trek will be nothing to them, but for Cliffheart, it’s going to be a bit more difficult and exhausting. So I’ll give you some traveling herbs for now, as well as some herbs that will help with the stiffness in your body.” She continued, her paws working quickly as she sorted out the herbs she needed and set them aside in a neat pile. Once she was finished grabbing what she needed, she picked the herbs up and made her way back over to the others and set them down in front of her paws, not quite offering them to Cliffheart just yet, “But before I fully agree to let him go with you, I want your promise, Spiderbite. I want you to make sure that no harm comes to him while he is with you, that he doesn’t push himself too much when he’s too worn out to move. And that he will make it back to ShadowClan safely.” Snowdance said, looking straight into the SkyClan medicine cat’s eyes as she spoke. Cedarstar nodded curtly to Snowdance. "I'll send three warriors with him just to be safe." He didn't care if SkyClan took the larger patrol as a threat. Cliffheart's welfare was more important. Cliffheart shot a side-long look at his former apprentice. "I'm not some kit that needs a large patrol." Yet, at Cedarstar's stern look, Cliffheart huffed. The Clan leader wasn't going to bend in his decision and Cliffheart couldn't help but be impressed. Cedarstar had grown a lot from the little apprentice he trained. Spiderbite swelled with relief that Cedarstar and Snowdance seemed to be agreeing to his request. Yet, when Snowdance paused, he blinked at her. Her words put a prick of insult on his brow. It sounded like she was questioning his measure as a medicine cat. His lips parted with a sharp remark, but he recalled Lavendersky's warning about his bedside manner. Snowdance was an experienced medicine cat and he was young. He reflected on how he acted since arriving at the camp and realized he gave her every reason to question him. Spiderbite clamped his jaws shut. The fact he brought this insult upon himself wounded his pride. How was he supposed to show the other Clans he was a capable medicine cat if he kept giving them reason to doubt him? Spiderbite looked Snowdance in the eye. "You have my word as a medicine cat," he mewed genuinely. "No harm will come to any of the cats in my care." He flicked a glance at Cedarstar as if assuring the leader his promise included the three warriors he selected. "I'll oversee Cliffheart's health the entire time. Lavendersky may be dying, but I believe StarClan will hold off taking her until they're reunited once again." He surprised himself with his own belief. He'd seen Lavendersky's state. He knew they didn't have much time, but he had this strange sense a conversation between her and Cliffheart had to happen. He took a deep breath and nodded as if affirming his words. "I swear it, Snowdance."

Songbreeze smiled gently, but inwardly she was scared of telling the kits about more death. There was so much death these days. When Smokestorm mentioned Cardinalblaze's patrol, his tone told her everything. More death awaited them outside the nursery. "Nobody every tells anybody in the nursery anything," Songbreeze held out her paw to motion Grovekit to come back to the nest. "But that's what its like in the nursery. We'll find out when Cedarstar makes an announcement. It won't be long, I'm sure." Littlemoon couldn't help a quiet purr and she wondered why she hadn't spent much time with Cardinalblaze before. I didn't spend much time with anyone except Tigerfury, she realized. Her ear flicked in remembrance of her shyness. "The last thing I want to hear..." Littlemoon looked thoughtfully around the camp. "Well, that would be for arrogant words like Ashrock's to be coming out of your mouth." She nodded to herself. "Yeah, that's the last thing I want to hear." She offered him a kind smile. "I do think you did alright. Everyone was safe and no one was left behind. You used your experiences to help find the path forward. I think that's what Cedarstar was hoping for when he picked you. You're dedicated to this Clan, Cardinalblaze." She looked away from him and her face gently fell. "The Clan needs to see more of that after the things that's been happening."

He admitted. “A part of me knew that I could have been a consideration because I know him, I was trained by him. But when it happened, I didn’t expect it at all. But I really mean it. I’m not going to give up, and I’m going to give Shadowclan all I can to keep it strong, and safe. With how things have been going… I don’t think we’ll have the luxury of being able to hide this from them.” He fretted. “Ours won’t understand yet.” Snakesong mewed softly to Smokestorm, though she did shoot Brittlefoot a pleading look to not say anything more about Stormfury. Instead, she looked at her mate and asked. “Is that more moss for me?” “You won’t go to Starclan yet, will you? Like my mom and dad did? Because that wouldn’t be fair.” Grovekit asked Songbreeze with a watery pout, angry at the thought of it. “Don’t leave me and Flowerkit alone too!” She begged. Warmed by the sound of Littlemoon’s laughter, he realized he didn’t speak to her as often as he should. She was easy to talk with, and he found her laugh to be comforting. “Starclan, Snowdance is owed a moon’s worth of prey for all she’s had to deal with these past moons. But I can’t think of anyone the entire Clan will listen to more than her when time comes for her to put her paw down.” He praised, always fond of their beloved Medicine Cat.

Smokestorm blinked at Brittlefoot in shock at how easily he told the queens and kits that Stormfury was dead. His gaze darted to his own kits in fear that they wouldn't be spared from the horror of a cat dying. He didn't quite understand that they were too young to understand. "Brittlefoot, can't you keep your mouth shut?" He snapped quietly. Songbreeze stood and reached out to Grovekit to pull her closer with her paw. "Sometimes, StarClan decides unexpectedly that a cat can join their hunting grounds." She tried not to think about how often StarClan seemed to take away their clanmates. Her mother, her own kits. She wanted to be angry. Her own father was on death's path and she wasn't even sure StarClan would accept him. "That's why time with the ones you love is so precious." Littlemoon actually chuckled. "After the last fight they had in camp? I'd hate for all of ShadowClan's actions to be decided by a battle between leader and deputy. Snowdance would lose her mind." “Would you rather the kits go scampering out in the middle of the vigil and have to see Stormfury without knowing why he looks like that?” Brittlefoot mewed to Smokestorm, a steady look in his eyes. “Kits are young, it can be hard to understand at first, but they aren’t fools. Smokestorm fumbled a frown at Brittlefoot, but he went with Snakesong's change of subject. "Y-Yes," he nudged the moss bundle closer to his mate. "It's for you and the...well, them." He nodded to the kits without looking at them. "I can place it where it's be more comfortable for you." "I won't," Songbreeze leaned down to lick both Grovekit's and Flowerkit's head. "I won't leave you, I promise. Lionscorch and Eaglesight won't leave you either. You'll never be alone." Littlemoon nodded in agreement. "I don't think any of us--including Snowdance--ever thought Northstar would choose another--a son of Closesky, no less--to lead the Clan after her." She looked toward the medicine den. "I'm thankful we have Snowdance. What happened to Opalmist was terrible. Her betrayal was terrible, but Snowdance has always been a steady, gentle presence in the Clan. With everything going on, she's what we need." Littlemoon shrugged and looked away in light flush. She realized she was being more chatty than normal. She couldn't remember the last time she had a long conversation like this with someone that wasn't Tigerfury. She didn't think anyone cared to listen, but Cardinalblaze was just...easy to speak to than most cats.

Russetshade lifted her head at the sight of the puddle. "Right. Big puddles means more opportunity for frogs. Let's see what we can find, you two."

She looked at him, before she offered a gentle smile. “All of them are in great shape. The flooding was scary, but having them here with me, it’s worth all the pain.” She lowered her head to watch them lovingly. Brittlefoot watched his sister with soft eyes, her pure happiness at being a mother meaning the world to him. After all they had suffered, she had finally gotten what she wanted most. He watched Smokestorm, hoping the tom would understand one day what a marvelous gift this was. He turned then to Songbreeze and nodded. “Do you need anything? Any of you?” Grovekit quietly pressed herself to Songbreeze, looking sharply at Brittlefoot, but relenting quietly to the Queen’s assurances. Cardinalblaze nodded his agreement. “Snowdance has been here longer than most of the Clan has been alive. She was there for our kittings, for every illness. Nobody expected Falco-… My father’s injury. I sometimes wonder what it would be like, had he taken the nine lives I bet he expected to one day.” Cardinalblaze murmured, before he shook his head. “But I truly believe Cedarstar is right where he’s supposed to be. He got me through the most difficult part of my life. I just… I owe it to him to be there for him in the same way, you know?”

Rather awkwardly, he maneuvered around the nest to apply the new moss. Songbreeze shook her head as she looked back at Brittlefoot. "We're alright. Eaglesight said he would bring us some prey after he checked on Cliffheart." She flicked her ear, realizing that had been a while ago. "Although, that was some time ago. Is everything alright with my father?" Littlemoon took notice of how Cardinalblaze corrected himself when it came to Falcontalon, but she didn't comment. She turned her eyes to the ground. "I'll admit, I had my doubts about Cedarstar when Northstar picked him. He didn't seem collected enough for the deputyship and I was fooled by Ashrock to believing he'd grown lazy for a time." She shuffled her paws in betrayal of her guilt. "But I believe in Cedarstar. He's rough around the edges, but always seems to know what to do even when he doesn't realize it." Littlemoon took a deep breath and her memories of the fire came roaring back. "He saved my life in the flames when...well..." she abandoned what she was going to say. "I owe him my life, you know?"

(Sorry for reply so late, was out shopping.)
Raccoonrunner nodded to Russetshade, crouching down to the floor and tasting the air. His tail went still, the first scent of prey he had smelled in a while. Slowly he stalked towards a puddle trying his best to smell where the frog might be as he wouldn’t have much luck hearing it.

Knowing your father’s relation to Skyclan, I can only guess that’s why Spiderbite is here. For exactly what reason… I’m not sure.” Cardinalblaze lifted his tail to rest it gently on Littlemoon’s shoulder. “Hey. You don’t need to say anything you don’t want to. I understand completely, what you meant. And don’t feel guilty. Ashrock was not the only one who had alot of doubts. It was the way he went about it that was the wrong thing to do. Having doubts about any cat as leader is normal. I’m sure Cedarstar gets that more than you would think.” He assured, before he mewed. “As soon as Cedarstar addresses the Clan about Spiderbite, I promise I’ll get some rest. Just for you.”

Hollyvine slipped after the two other Warriors, nose wrinkling at each odd item or carrion piece she saw washed up from the flood. The territory looked like a herd of badgers had rolled through it. It made her heart ache, and she felt a twinge of anger that Shadowclan had to suffer so badly.

Snowdance visibly relaxed at Spiderbite’s promise and pushed the herbs closer to Cliffheart, “And I trust you to keep your word, Spiderbite. You’re a talented medicine cat, so I’m sure that you understand my worry about sending one of my clanmates out like this when he’s still recovering. You’ll reach Lavendersky in time, that I am sure of.” She said, sitting down and wrapping her tail around her paws before turning her attention back to Cliffheart, “Go ahead and eat those herbs, then try and get yourself up. And don’t move too quickly, or you’ll end up straining yourself.”

(Iceyyyy!)
Coalhaze finished murmuring a few words to Stormfury, before he backed away from the body and padded heavily away from the crowd of the mourning Clan. He could see Honeycrest looking frequently at the leader’s den, while Crystalsight was speaking with the Skyclan Warrior who had come with Spiderbite. He turned again, looking for Vixenflame, knowing she would be hurting for her sister’s and her kits’ loss.
Talltalon shook his head with closed eyes, praying that his kits would understand what had happened. The nursery was too full right now for him to try and mess around going in. Instead, he glanced over towards it, in case Leopardshadow needed him.

"I'll miss you in the warrior's den." Songbreeze flattened her ears at Brittlefoot's report. "Spiderbite? Not Lavendersky? Not Spiritstar?" It was strange to think of Spiderbite arriving for her father. "I hope Cedarstar will tell us." Littlemoon smiled gratefully at Cardinalblaze and her ears felt warm. She nodded to him, a bit unsure of how to respond, so she defaulted to quiet.

And… well, I… think I might be staying in this nest for quite a long time.” She finally admitted, allowing her newfound bravery to shine through. She looked at their kits, speaking softly yet surely. “I think I’ve finally found my place in Shadowclan. I… I have so much I want to give to these little ones. To every little one, like Softmist.” “Spiderbite.” Brittlefoot nodded, also concerned as to why no other cat had come beside Spiderbite. He sighed. “I can only guess that Lavendersky just didn’t want to make such a trek. She’s the oldest Medicine Cat in all the Clans. I’d not want to travel across Clans, and I’m just frail in the legs.” He lifted a paw up before dropping it. “I agree though. Let’s hope it’s a good reason.” Cardinalblaze shuffled his paws awkwardly, before he cleared his throat and shook away his warm fluster. “The vigil will last a while longer. I should probably go make sure we’ve started making the nests for the Warrior’s den. You can, uh. Join me, if you like.” He offered.

Raccoonrunner continued to taste the air stalking slowly, finally he spotted it. A single frog. It wasn't a very impressive piece of kill, but it was something. He stalked back onto his haunches slowly creeping forward. His bushy tail lay behind him. Sweeping the floor silently. Within a moment he had pounced, capturing the slimy, green, amphibian between his jaws biting it until it went limp. He let out a small purr of joy from this. Finally, the hunt became something worth doing. He stalked over to a dry-ish area and dug the soil up to make a hole for the kill.

Vipertooth | w/Burninghope (Moonblazer ) & Hazelblaze (willowtail )Vipertooth shook out her fur and followed Burninghope as she kept moving forward. She kept her eyes and nose alert for any sort of crowfood or shiny things for Cardinalblaze. The ground underpaw became heavier with mud and grit and she had to fight back the disdain from showing, stopping every few pawsteps to shake her pads clean. She could feel the residue of the stuff inbetween her toes and she decided she'd give herself a good washing when she got back to camp, no matter how tired she was. She glanced up at Burninghope as the other she-cat spoke, tone worried. Vipertooth took a pace forward and flicked her tail briefly over her spine, in an attempt at comfort. "I'm sure if StarClan were mad, Snowdance would have mentioned it already." she assured her clanmate. “I just really hope it isn’t something… else… sending us all this awful luck. All this suffering.” Burninghope admitted, eyes narrowing as she admitted. “All those tales of the Dark Forest, of such evil, it always sounded so farfetched. Yet… I mean, I know it did really happen. But can they really have so much control over stuff?” She asked, almost to herself. (I'm lazying out of my usual formatting lol) Vipertooth gave her a sympathetic nod, understanding how Burninghope was feeling. ShadowClan seemed to have been hit back to back with mishaps and there was seemingly no reason why. They still prayed to their ancestors and followed the code and it couldn't be that one cat's intentions would affect the whole clan. Vipertooth fought back a shiver. Maybe Burninghope was right and the unease everyone surely felt right now, all the devestation, were the acts of former evil warriors, exacting some sort of twisted justice on the clans they once belonged to. But could dead cats really hold so much power in their paws? Floods, fires, prey-maulers...how could cats that were long gone and buried by their clanmates cause these things? She looked back at the other she-cat and shook her head. "I don't know. It seems...impossible..." she meowed, though her voice was uncertain.

And don’t move too quickly, or you’ll end up straining yourself.” Spiderbite puffed his chest out at Snowdance's praise. He wouldn't let her down, he silently swore it. When he turned to Cliffheart, he frowned at the way the warrior looked at Snowdance's herbs in disgust. "Hey, those are good-quality herbs. You have to eat every bite, don't be wasteful." Cliffheart mildly glared at Spiderbite, but he muttered, "thank you," to Snowdance and began lapping up the herbs. Having not eaten since before he was attacked, their bitter taste didn't bother him much. He was just grateful for something in his stomach. Cedarstar flicked his ear twice as he watched Cliffheart lap up the herbs. He pressed his nose to Starrylight as an affectionate way to show he was departing the den. With a glance at his kits, he slipped out. Cedarstar was feeling the exhaustion of the past couple days when he slipped out of the den. He started to turn toward Clan Rock, wondering how many times he had jumped up on it lately, when he spotted Cardinalblaze's patrol in the middle of the camp. Horror dropped his jaw when he saw the gray body of Stormfury laying like a clump of matted fur by the patrol. Cedarstar rushed over. Smokestorm blinked at his mate. "Wait...what?" He looked at her and at the nursery, at the kits. "Like Softmist? Are you saying...?" he trailed off with his ears falling back. Songbreeze had her doubts. These days, it didn't seem like any cat showed up with good reason. Even Lightningstar had the warning that the dark forest was coming back. "I hope it isn't bad," she muttered softly. Littlemoon opened her mouth to reply when she spotted Cedarstar rushing over. Her ears flattened and she nodded to Cardinalblaze and departed quickly. Cedarstar didn't take notice of Littlemoon's quick exit. He stared at Stormfury's body as he slowed upon reaching the patrol. He hadn't wanted it to be true. Not Stormfury. StarClan...not Stormfury. Cedarstar's ears fell back. After everything he and Stormfury went through, he couldn't believe it ended like this.
