"Foil has the most rules and the smallest target. Saber is more hack and slash, while Epee has little rules but more targets" explained Espia. "Truth be told, i cycle through a lot of hobbies. Forensics, now that was fun. Psychology was interesting for a week, but i think my favorite hobby is ESP related things" she signed.

Riandylan snapped their fingers. "Foil! That was it!" They looked at Espia admirably. "I bet you know lots of stuff - ooh, what other ESP things do you know?"

"I can talk to the dead, see into the future, read minds, see anything without my eyes, levitate objects, and talk to animals" Espia signed. "To be specific, i can act like i can do all those things"

"So... they're like magic tricks?" Riandylan loved acts of the impossible, torn between staying in the feeling of wonder and satisfying their curiosity about how it's done. "Could you show me something? Read my mind again!"

"Precisly. It comes down to being able to read a person, based on facial expressions and posture. For example..." Espia paused, then signed "Your father loves you quite a lot, even through hardships. He never spares any expense for your happiness, which is fine, since he has plenty of money to spare" she signed, then smirked a little

Riandylan was enthralled. "How - no, wait let me guess, you could tell by my clothes? Like Sherlock Holmes! Oh, I love love love the tv show!"

((Sup Sans! Hi Anakin! I have a little while before I have to go to an event :3)) Ari rolled his eyes to the ceiling and threw his arms over the back the chair behind him. "Oh, just everything that's wrong with my life. My mom hates me and wants to control everything I do, so she uses my stepsister as her guard dog. Apparently, my mom's 'worried sick' that I won't be going to Stanford in the fall. Like I'd go to that stuck up place." Ari knew that he was exaggerating, but he was mad and this was a stranger, so who cared. All he could think about was each time his mom would chide him about eating cereal with a fork, for dumping chutney on his naan and eating the whole thing rather than dipping it in the gravy, for getting a "boy's" haircut, for smoking, for dating the wrong guy, for smashing that guy's car, for getting kicked out of class, for getting suspended, for running away that first time - he could do nothing right, could he, he thought bitterly. Shafer's brow shot up as he pressed his lips together and stared at the other boy incredulously. "I mean. I don't think your mom hates you," he mumbled the words mostly underneath his breath. He'd honestly never met someone so absorbed as this guy, it was incredible to the small Native. Responses died before they reached his lips and he found himself without answers for the kid. Just questions. A lot of questions. What made Stanford so stuck up, Shafer thought that was just a school for smart kids. How could his step-sister act as a guard dog? What was she guarding her from? Her son? That didn't make much sense, this kid didn't seem like much of a threat. "... Why don't you just move out?"

"Clothing and attitude. Your clothes are expensive, so theres the money, but you're on a flight alone. He's probably the one who bought the ticket for the flight. So its a good chance that you and he have a good relationship" she paused. "Sherlock has a fatal flaw. He doesnt believe in what he cannot understand. I have a unique advantage. I'm smart enough to know how things work, but young enough to still believe in magic. That is a very useful combination"

{ sorry for the poof. xp sounds fun, willowflower. is it kind of like karaoke than? }
Her search was cut short, someone having already answered the call. Turning toward the stranger, Mandy hugged her arms closer to her chest and bent forward onto her toes. A small smile curled at the corner of her lips and she nodded a quick greeting. In all honesty, she was taken by surprise. It wasn't everyday she heard such an accent or saw such apparel. It wasn't off-putting, not in the slightest, just wildly bizarre to Mandy and beyond interesting. She grew up in the boondocks of Northern Ireland, her mother having been born there herself. Her village was a small community and enough, it seemed, for her parents. Yet, it felt like a prison to Mandy. One she'd gladly liberated herself from. Her smile grew at the girl's quirk, friendly and goodnatured. "No," she began, "sorry." She looked the girl up and down before turning toward the window. She was sure she was being rude. "I don't think these things last that long, though. Maybe a few hours at most?" She curled her nose at the thought. "An agonizing wait, I know," she said with a small laugh. {Sorry! I haven't been able to get on for more than five minutes at a time} Belle wasn't sure if the girl was attempting to be rude or not, but by the way she looked at her up and down it made Belle want to slap her. She kept her expression calm though, even though it was excruciatingly painful inside. Belle gave her a slightly forced smile when she laughed. This girl was very confusing to her. Was she trying to be rude? Was she mocking Belle? She could not jump to conclusions yet, only watch closely. "A few hours is still a long while. I'm not usually one ta' wait." Belle shrugged and crossed her arms. "But I suppose there ain't much else to do except talk. Where ya headed anyway? Besides New York I mean." Belle raised an eyebrow in curiosity as she asked the question. A lot of other people seemed to be the city type of folk. Maybe they were looking for jobs, or a vacation oppritunity. Belle hated cities though, unless they were in foreign areas. Mainly because she knows what to expect along he east coast but in places like Germany or Japan they are very different.

((Hiyo!)
"I tried," Ari muttered, turning around so that he was backwards in his seat with his arms thrown over the top. Well, if "try" means packing up his things and leaving without giving a single thought to where he was going to go, where he was going to live, where he was going to get a job or make money of some kind or how he was even going to survive on pocket money for as long as it would take to even get a job. 'Cause I am an impulsive idiot who can't do anything right, he thought bitterly. His head had been filled with outrageous fantasies for self-reassurance that was embarrassing to recall. Oh, how painful 20/20 hindsight is. He was already regretting blabbering his mouth off and couldn't look at the stranger anymore. Just the stranger's tone made him flush warm with embarrassment, highly conscious of his words. He barely knew Stanford, and having his mom rant about it made him see it as some high-class, choosy university that hand-picked prized students to revel in its reputation and look down upon the common folk that couldn't get in. He felt like a ball that gets tossed and fetched by a master's loyal dog. Now he felt like a fool. And the only time he cared about what people thought of him was if they thought him stupid. "But!" He swiveled around and plopped back down into his seat. "Who cares about me! What about you, what's your story? You're waiting for the late plane to New York too, aren't you?" Diversion, distraction.
Riandylan sat back in wonder. "Huh," they said, allowing Espia's words to sink in. "So... you do believe in magic? I figured most people leave that behind when they get into high school or something." They leaned back and looked up at the ceiling. "...It is okay to still believe in magic, right?"

Shafer tilted his head to the side like some sort of confused dog when Ari spoke. He had tried. What did that even mean. Like, Shafer understood. Shafer got it. Shafer had major mommy issues as well. but he hadn't tried to move out. He just did. How did he get sucked back into his family life, who found him, did they have to physically drag him back, Shafer did not understand how these things worked in this kid's life. One day when he was fourteen, his brother had shown up out of bloody nowhere, after being gone for god knows how long, strolled into Shafer's room, and just started packing a bag for him. So that was probably it. This guy probably didn't have an awesome older brother to kidnap him when he needed it. That was really a quite depressing thought. Shafer pouted for him and leaned a bit closer, only to jerk back when he whipped back around and was suddenly bestowing every ounce of his attention onto the native. He swallowed nervously and shrugged for no reason at all. "Uhh. Yeah, I'm heading back home. I was in England for about six months because my boyfriend is an idiot who does illegal things for a living and he didn't want to deal with someone possibly taking me hostage to get money from him. He's like. Uber rich. So he just. Sent me to London."

"I believe that magic exists in some form, but it has not been discovered by humans. Most "magical" things to date have a logical source. The ones that dont have no means of being researched, so its a null point. I always consider everything, even the ridiculous. History has shown that people who believe in the impossible are remembered for their achievements" Espia said as she shuffled the cards.

Ari snorted - just the way the guy said that last part struck him as amusing. "Wow, that sounds way more exciting," he said. "Illegal stuff and hostages, huh? Sounds like a plot from a tv show. Anyone try to capture you yet?"
"Yeah, right? It's like, I've always considered metamorphosis a magical thing - I mean, it's literally transformation! It's just that people can explain how it happens, and suddenly it's not magic anymore, it's science. Is magic "magic" until it can be explained and then be called science? I'm sure people from the Middle Ages would call cars magic, or cell phones. Even magic like invisibility and casting spells from a wand might be possible in the future, who knows?"

Shafer smirked at the other boy's amused reaction, a pleased shiver racing up his spine at the validation he received from that. "Tried? Of course. Succeeded though? Also yes. It was a very expensive one time and I'm not as incredibly badass as I might seem so when they kidnapped me, I was just sorta like. Well okay." Shafer buried his head in his hands and grinned out of the pure shame. "He was so mad... Do you believe me?" He glanced up at the guy, eyes narrowed playfully.

"You're not the first person I've met that has said that. My definition of magic is the manipulation of energy without the aid of any external object. That, would be true magic" said Espia. "Science is explainable, and repeatable. True magic can operate without science"

Ari felt a grin creep across his face. "That almost sounds like a challenge," he said, leaning back and placing his hand on his chin as if in thought. "While plausible, it would then be a little careless telling me - what if I'm working for someone who wants to use you as a bargaining chip?" He lowered his voice to sound as suspicious as possible, but quickly lightened up with a casual, "And, well, if your story is indeed true no wonder your boyfriend shipped you off to London. Man, I wish I had a rich boyfriend. Then I could totally move out without worrying about money or college or jobs or - adulting, or whatever."

Riandylan slowly nodded. "And that's why it's considered impossible," they said. "Which is why it's so fascinating. Have you discovered any way to find or use it, though? It's, like, using solely your mind or will to bend reality, right?" They looked down at their hands. "I would love to be able to do that."

"I have a few leads, but nothing to show for them as of yet. I hope to discover magic within ten years, before it slips out of my reach forever" said Espia. A watch beeped on her wrist. She pushed a button to silence it, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a pill bottle. She twisted it open, grabbed a pill, then quickly swallowed it. "But yes, magic is usually considered impossible. Which is why I intend to find it" she said

Riandylan's brow furrowed as they tilted their head. "Why ten years?" they signed as they watched Espia take her pill, curious but uncertain if it would be rude to ask. If they were of a different mind, they might have found the pill following Espia's words of magic suspicious, but the thought didn't even occur to them.

"Let's just say I won't be in any condition to continue my research. Its the most pleasant explanation I can offer you" Espia said, looking at her cards. "I'm sorry you had to hear that, but some things are unavoidable" she said, nodding her head slightly

Shafer rested his elbows on his knees, leaning forward and all around looking very engaged. "Well, I've been known to be very impulsive. It's how I landed the mobster boyfriend in the first place." That totally wasn't true. He didn't even really 'land' the boyfriend, how he was thrown in together with the man had pretty much nothing to do with him. But this new guy didn't have to know that. "But yeah, having a rich boyfriend is pretty fantastic, aside from the uhh. Inevitable accomplice charges. But y'know, if you wanted I could deem you my new favourite toy and take you home with me." He smiled brightly and winked, testing out this new kid's limits.

"Don't be sorry. I'm certainly not. Besides, my fate is not set in stone. My future will be made by myself, not by someone else deciding when I'm out of time. Of course, if I find magic, then perhaps" at this she picked a card lying face down from her deck and showed it to Riandylan. "My future will change" she said as she held the card of Death, which symbolized Change.

Ari sputtered, jerking away. "Oh jeez, get that idea out of your head. I'm no one's 'toy', thank you very much." Half his brain was ringing alarm bells. The other half was roaring with laughter. And, despite of it all, he found himself leaning forward again. "Though, I am curious - 'favorite'? Have you actually charmed someone else?"

Riandylan gazed at the card, and then looked back up. "Maybe I could help you?" they said. "In your search for magic, that is." Just the thought made them want to bounce in their seat again. "I could be like your assistant! We could travel the world in a grand adventure, seeking out that one elusive treasure!"

Shafer chirped out a laugh and leaned back in his chair, hands coming up to clap together in front of him and drawing stares from all over the terminal. He grinned and looked away from the other boy for a few moments to collect himself. He side-eyed him when he spoke again, a small, sharp canine dragging over his lower lip as he decided just how to answer that. "A few, yes. I mean what do you expect, look at me." He lifted his hands away from his body and gestured to himself grandly.

"I don't think so. I don't doubt your eagerness, or your character, but this search is rather... dangerous. Over the past six months I've been nearly crushed to death twice, nearly drowned once, and shot at countless times" Espia said. "I don't mind risking my life, since I haven't got much to loose anyways. But I refuse to risk someone else's, even if they do so willingly"

Just the gesture made Ari turn quickly and stifle his laughter into his hand. "Are you inviting me to check you out?" he said rhetorically, still amazed at the guy's forwardness. He couldn't help but notice the glances turning their way and grew even more amused. He wondered if he should play along - he had to admit he was enjoying the conversation, with all irritation eased from his mind. He lifted his legs so that he could press his feet against the armrest nearest to the person whose name he still doesn't know and lean his back against the other armrest. He crossed his arms and tilted his head, allowing his eyes to drag up and down the other's figure, biting his lip for heck of it. Well, one thing's for sure - the other dressed ready to flirt. Ari didn't doubt that he could charm his way into someone's heart. "Eh. Not my type," Ari said, just to mess with him.
Riandylan's amazement only grew, their eyes widening in awe. "Shot at? Whoa, where do you go?" They said excitedly, on the edge of their seat.

"Don't pretend you haven't already looked me over once or twice," Shafer scoffed under his breath as he finally allowed his arms to come back down to cross over his chest. Though when he watched the other kid twist into the only position one could check someone out properly in, he shifted to face him. He raised his hands to clasp behind his head, making a show of pushing his chest out and tilting his head to the side, lips parted ever so slightly for that mildly Scandalous™ expression. He made a noise of disbelief when he received the verdict. "Babe, I'm everyone's type. Trust me, it's exhausting."
