“That must be it.” Brookheart nodded slowly, having been thinking the same for a while now. He sighed softly. “He doesn’t have to push so hard to prove anything. I wish he understood that… but you’re right. I’ll talk to him when we get back.” He conceded, grateful for Icepath’s sturdy council.
“Mm. Troubled, not so much. Just, thoughtful.” Ivymask mused, flicking her daughter’s nose with her tail before she continued. “So. You got to see Thunderclan’s camp, huh? It’s so different, isn’t it?” She gossiped.

Icepath shook her head. "Apprentices... I guess we shouldn't count ourselves out, huh?" she joked lightly, getting to her paws. "We tried as hard as we could to be better than our parents. I can only hope our descendants feel the same." she mewed, wondering if her brother's kits even know about Brinetail and Lotusbloom or the horror they brought upon RiverClan.
"Thoughtful," Koishade repeated, flicking her ear. "Yes, I suppose I spend a lot of time in my thoughts. It is quite different... but not in a bad way. There's no river to swim in or listen to, but they have the cover of the trees and the singing birds." she described. "I think I would like that if I were a ThunderClan cat."

Many cats don't have that, but we do. I'm grateful, for this life we've made for ourselves." "I'm sure those mouse-munchers enjoy all their trees and beehives." Ivymask snorted, though her taunting of Thunderclan was more so playful, rather than genuinely disdainful. She was more focused on how her daughter described her experience. She puffed her chest proudly. "Soon, you'll be going on all kinds of missions, with your level head. I'm as proud as a mother and Warrior can be." She bragged.

"That's a great idea!" She brightened. It was easier to act, than to speak sometimes. She brushed past him, heading to the river's edge and assuming a position that kept her shadow off the water. Iciclestep chuckled once, a small and rusty noise, before he quickly grew serious once more and quietly slipped into the water. His snowy fur spread like a cloud for a moment, before it flattened with water. He waded into the deeper water, circling around and eyeing carefully at the stones near his paws. He slowly padded towards Snowflower, corralling a few small fish towards the waiting she-cat. Snowflower crouched low, fixing her attention on the bobbing water. As the first of the smaller fish came her way, she waited. One moment, two, three, then suddenly flashed out a paw to scoop it onto the shore. Little splash had kicked up with the motion. The next fish to arrive came in a group, and as she hooked one out of the water, the others spooked and scattered. She finished them with a quick bite each and left them gleaming beside her on the shore. They were pretty small, but still much-needed for the fresh kill pile. She nodded at Iciclestep, not daring to make sound that would scare away anything else - this was working out well.

He tended to prefer to hunt alone, but he and Snowflower really did make a great team. He found himself watching for longer than he intended, now enamored by the way her fur seemed to glow against the dark stones of the riverbank. She truly was beautiful, and it was hard to push down the way his heart thudded at the sight of her.

Koishade's eyes widened slightly, meeting her mother's with curiosity. She wasn't a new warrior anymore, but to be picked for missions outside of RiverClan sounded... unlikely. "I'm just a normal warrior. Wouldn't Earthstar or Diamondheart want you to go instead? Troutfang must talk about your strengths to him all the time."

"...Do you ever wonder, if they'll ever come back?" Brookheart asked lightly, a distant look filling his eyes. "Some days I dread that they'll one day walk my dreams, or come into battle like the Dark Forest cats during Adderclan's final battles. Surely they're in the Dark Forest, where else would they be?" "Oi, it's a mother's job to make sure that her kit becomes an even better Warrior than they are." Ivymask smirked, tail swishing as she admitted. "I've had my share of missions and battles, and of course I'm always ready to be called, though I also have a temper sometimes. I can admit that. Diplomatic patrols are Earthstar and Diamondheart's specialties, they're calm like the water." She glanced towards the sound of the water, before she looked back at Koishade. "The kinds of cats that are meant for leadership? They've got heads on their shoulders like you do. But I'll always be here to fight for you, and protect you, and your father."

"If they ever come back, they'll meet the end of my claws." Icepath vowed, giving a lash of her tail. "I think they know better to walk in our dreams, but to come back into battle... I don't know how they do it, but I don't want to imagine it happening again." she murmured, remembering the dark day vividly. A part of her still felt a chill recalling the fight as an apprentice, one too young to be fighting for her life, seeing the look of hatred and bloodlust in her mother and father's eyes. She shook the memory out of her head.
"I'm glad Earthstar and Diamondheart are in charge." Koishade replied, keeping her eyes locked to a pebble beneath the surface of the stream. "I've never lived under any other leader, but I'm glad they lead toward peace. I know you and Troutfang are willing to fight, but..." she trailed off, wondering if this would disappoint Ivymask. Could she be a better warrior without wanting to fight as much as her?

Could she be a better warrior without wanting to fight as much as her? "The ends of your claws are enough to frighten any cat." Brookheart smiled lightly, knowing how fierce Icepath could be when pushed, and he was grateful that he was always on her side. It made him feel better, the assurance, though he still felt a twinge of nerves thinking about that ever happening again. "It's the relative peace we've had. Even with the odd fur, we managed to rebuild and update the entire camp, prey is running so well, our territory is practically undamaged from the fire thanks to the bravery of Ottermask's patrol... Has it ever been so bountiful for Riverclan before? It must be making me paranoid." He admitted. "Earthstar chooses good deputies. Mistfall was just as level-headed, but she always stated how she felt she didn't want the position enough in her heart to really accept the terms that come with deputyship. It's intimidating, when you don't have the assured sense of acceptance." Ivymask nodded, looking at her daughter with a hint of understanding. "You know, you don't have to be just like me, or your father. I know lots of kits think that about their parents, but we've always been proud of you for what you've done all on your own."

(Bloop!)
Puddlepaw awoke once more from another night spent with Lotusbloom's teachings. As much as being enclosed to camp still made him feel miserable, at the very least he could learn some advanced moves with a cat that actually seemed to want to see him push to his limits. His muscles were sore, but he didn't care. He stood to his paws, silently padding towards the elder's den to change out their nests, not speaking to anyone around him like he usually would have. Most of his upbeat energy was muted now, as he felt a flicker of bitterness in him.
Orchidnight was curled around her kits, watching them feed with a sense of amazement that they were real. She pressed her muzzle to their heads gently, purring deeply.

"That's a good point," Icepath gave her claws a quick flex. "Too much peace can make some warriors antsy. And what is ThunderClan up to? It's unusual for them to leave Sunningrocks alone for so long." she pondered. Had Lightningstar given up on maintaining the border after the fire? She didn't particularly care if they ever bothered RiverClan again, but a forest without five Clans just wouldn't be right. "Is StarClan keeping an eye on them?"
Koishade hummed quietly. "I am happy to hear that... I do not think I could ever have the drive and confidence that Earthstar and Diamondheart, and even you and Troutfang, do." she said. "The idea of standing on the Reed Rock, looking down on every cat with their faith in you, makes my paws quiver." the she-cat admitted. "Being an ordinary RiverClan warrior is enough."

He’s not giving you any issue, is he?” He asked, knowing that it was one of the rare cases in which she mentored kin. “Well. Then being an ordinary Riverclan warrior is what you’ll be. And you’ll be great at it.” Ivymask decided, glad that Koishade wasn’t afraid to admit such to her. She continued. “Your sister’s been adamant that Iciclestep has been mooning over Snowflower for a while. I’m almost embarrassed that I missed noticing it until now.” She teased.

"Stormpaw's doing well." Icepath replied, smirking slightly at the idea of the tom causing trouble. "He takes his training seriously, but I see a lot of you in him. He'll be a great warrior." she said. "Do you wish you had another apprentice? Mentoring does take up a lot of the day."
"Iciclestep?" Koishade echoed, eyes widening in surprise. Out of all the cats in RiverClan, her stoic brother seemed like one of the last ones to moon over another. "That's... is she certain?" she shuffled her paws.

Littlepaw nervously glanced at Mintpaw. Sure she was a bit older than him and was by far more experienced than him, but he still didn’t want to accidentally hurt her. Though, at this point in his training, what damage could the former kittypet really do? The most “violent” he had ever gotten was a few friendly tussles with other kittens back then. The most he could do at this point was to give the other apprentice a few bats on the shoulder. He kept his claws sheathed as instructed, but even then, he was sure Mintpaw could hardly feel anything he was giving him, no matter how much force he was trying to put into it.

I enjoyed training him alot. It was like training his father all over again." Brookheart chuckled, thinking warmly of his apprentices. Really, it was sometimes amazing how fast time seemed to fly by. He nodded quickly. "I'll never say no to mentoring another apprentice. Gives me something to schedule and stick to." "Certain enough to believe that Snowflower just might like him back. Isn't that something?" Ivymask smirked, though it was clear that she was happy that her prickly kit seemed to find a cat he liked. She mused. "In fact, I can't see either of them in camp. Maybe they're spending time together."

"You and Salmonsplash have a lot in common. You're both friendly, yet passionate about protecting those you care about. Earthstar made a good choice in having you mentor him." Icepath remarked, finding that she could see some of her own traits in her apprentice. "If another kit like that comes along, I'm sure you'd have another shot."
"Hmm," Koishade imagined the two of them outside of camp, perhaps fishing or playing in the water. She had a hard time picturing Iciclestep mooning over Snowflower, and she laughed quietly. "It really is something."

The large blue tom padded along one of the stream banks, looking at the water. “I still feel like I just received my Warrior name. Like no time has passed at all, you know?” “I’m trying not to be the nosy mother. It’s hard though, I was nosy long before I was a mother.” Ivymask snickered, before she looked at Koishade. “I’ll leave you be, don’t worry. But just know that I’m always here, and I’ll always have your back.” She winked.

Icepath gave a huff at that. She didn't want to think about retiring to the Elder's Den; not while her bones were sturdy and her claws were sharp. "I feel the same way. It's hard to imagine us being senior warriors when Earthstar's been leader for just as long." she said. "If Earthstar ever decides to retire, I'll lose all my fur from shock."
"Thank you," Koishade replied, finding it almost amusing how different she was from her mother. "I do not think you will ever have to worry about me being nosy... if there is anything for me to be nosy about with you. You seem to understand yourself perfectly."

It’s all most of the Clan has ever known, really.” Brookheart admitted, still remembering the day when Earthstar had come home, and claimed his place as Riverclan’s leader when Blazestar had vanished. It had been such an unexpected event, and yet Starclan surely had chosen well when Earthstar had been sent to fill in the void left behind. Even Diamondheart had spent so many moons at Earthstar’s side, that the sturdy dynamic was difficult to imagine changing. “I had moons to learn how to. Sometimes it takes longer. But, you get the hang of it eventually.” Ivymask purred, pressing her muzzle to her daughter’s forehead, before she slipped back towards the center of camp.

"The day RiverClan gains a new leader will be a strange one." Icepath padded alongside the river, gazing into her reflection for a short moment. "While I hope we won't be alive to see it, it would be the dawn of a new era. Maybe we'll get to see it from StarClan?" she suggested, feeling both uncertain yet at peace with the idea.
"I hope so." Koishade said, watching her mother leave. She turned to look towards the river, eyes dark in thought at her words.

Not that I'll ever know how it works, but I can only assume leaders are given their lives by certain cats in Starclan." Brookheart mused, before he felt a bit heavy speaking about such a serious subject. Instead, he let the cold water of the stream rush over his paws with a small sigh of relief. "It's been so warm recently, the water's felt so nice."

Er… if you’d like to.” He offered, shifting on his paws a bit awkwardly, though he looked at her with a hint of hope.

“You look as tense as a rock!” Mintpaw exclaimed, her stature loose and ready. She invited. “Loosen up a bit, this’ll be fun, yeah?” She promised, getting into a small battle stance that she had learned from her mentor. “What do you think we should work on?” Swanflight asked Birchtail, humored by the apprentices’ differences in personality.

Her ears pricked upright. “No, no, that’s okay.” She glanced down the shore, then over her shoulder at the caught fish. “Do you want to keep going?” (Sorry I’m running out of fuel in this scene, I’m not sure where to go with it ^^’) (It’s ok! They can head back if you want.) “…I think we’ve got enough.” Iciclestep decided after a long moment of thought. He quickly glanced at their small pile of fish, content with the catches. “We absolutely need to go on more hunts together. Er… if you’d like to.” He offered, shifting on his paws a bit awkwardly, though he looked at her with a hint of hope. She took a few steps closer and agreed, "I would love to!" With her tail high and joy shining in her eyes, she scooped up some of the fish and waited to walk with him back to camp.

Iciclestep picked up the rest of the fish, inwardly a bit downcast that he wouldn't be able to talk with her for the rest of the walk back to camp, though he settled on casting her light glances every few seconds, quickly looking forwards if she seemed close to meeting them. He felt his fur prickle, and supposed that this was what all the other mooning Warriors mushed about when they had mates. He hated feeling this strongly, but he remedied it knowing that it was towards one of if not the best cats in the Clan.
