"Good. Of anything changes, let me know," Stitch told her.
At this point, the three other men had taken their seats, plates stacked high with the food and glasses all filed with one type of juice or another. "How's Amelia this morning?" Emma asked, looking towards the third man of the group. He was the oldest of the rowdy group, with short brown hair and hazel eyes.
The man swallowed his mouthful before answering. "She was up all night. Couldn't stay out of the bathroom. I don't think she'll be down for a while," he answered.
"Poor dear," Ema mused, then for the benefit of Evaleigh, she explained, "Amelia is Keryn's wife. She's about four months pregnant.
"But where's Tris?" Mathias asked.
This time it was Cortez who spoke. "Still asleep, and ain't none of us about to go wake her."

Seth grinned. "I would like as much as you are willing to make. I did kinda miss dinner last night," he added sheepishly. That hadn't been a big deal the night before, what with his appetite being nonexistent, but it was catching up with him now.
~ • ~ • ~ Andy jerked in the act of moving to sit in one of the chairs. "The holding cells? Boss, you can't be serious. I didn't do nothing!" He plopped down in the chair, scowling. "I was just talking to the girl. We were having a good time, getting along great. She said she had to meet up with her brother, so I offered to walk her there since she's still new. Halfway there, she drags me into a shadowy corner and kisses me. I kissed her back, but that's all I did. I don't know why everyone's saying it was more than that."
Callum stared the man down for a minute before turning halfway to call his sister's name. She came forward, head held high. "I'm bringing my brothers," she told the runner, her tone leaving no room for argument.
Her words — or, more specifically, her plural use of one word in particular — made Morgan blink in stunned surprise. He had grown up around Cami about as much as Seth had, and he had always seen her as the little sister he never had. He just hadn't realized she considered him her brother too.

"Lucky for you, we're used to making large meals," Anya said, giving him a smile. As the second skillet got hot, she went ahead and put some of the bacon in it. When she was done, she looked back over at him. "How are you feeling?"
~•~•~
"And if that is the case, then you will have nothing to worry about,"Lawrence told him. He had sat down behind his desk Nd wrote out the details that had been given. "And that's it? Nothing else that might have been taken the wrong way?"
The runner looked hesitant. "I was told to only fetch you," he said."Nothing about your brothers."

Evaleigh nodded in response to Stitch "Sure thing." She glanced between people as the conversations started across the table. She was grateful for Ema's explanation. "Four months, wow. Do know the gender yet? Or were wanting it to be a surprise?" Evaleigh asked, looking towards Keryn. She padded her finger across her plate to pick up the crumbs, then licked them off.

Seth crossed his arms and leaned his hip against the counter, as close as he could be to her without being in her way. He watched her cook, until her question had him shifting his gaze to the floor. "I don't know. Better, I guess, yet... not. Really I'm just..." He looked back up at her and gave her a smile. "Focusing on the good, on what matters. That's really all I can do."
~ • ~ • ~ Andy shrugged. "Nope, that's it. At least, that's all I know. Maybe she has secret powers and sees ghosts or something, and that's why she suddenly freaked out. I mean, her brother is clearly not as human as he looks. Who says she isn't just like him?"
Cami set her jaw stubbornly. "Yeah, well, I'm not going anywhere near that Andy creep without them, so if they don't go, I don't go. And you can tell Lawrence I said that."

"We don't know yet," Keryn said with a small smile. "We want to be surprised, but I'm hoping for a boy. She's dead set on it being a girl though."
"It's going to be a girl," Stitch confirmed. "The way she carrying it is all the proof I need to know that, and i don't even specialize in that part of the medical field."
"It's not good to just ignore it," Anya told him. "I guess you already know, and I'm probably not the best person to be giving any advice, but talking it out would be better. Even if only to Stel. There's only so much focusing on the good will do before you can't do that anymore."

"And that's not your place to state your opinion," Lawrence stated. "If that's all you have to say in the matter, then I am sending you back to your tent. Stay there until I tell you otherwise. I should have this sorted out in a few hours. I suggest you do yourself a favor and follow those orders unless you want more trouble."
The runner saw her point and could understand her reasoning. He had a younger sister as well, and him the thought of something happening to her made his blood boil. Yet he still had orders. "They can escort you there if you like. However I do not know if Lawrence will allow them to stay. But I'll let that be something you take up with him. Are you ready?"

Evaleigh let out a small chuckle at Stitch's comment, "Well, sounds like she might get what she wants then." She fed a chunk of bacon she had saved to Beau, who had sat up and rested his head on her lap. She downed the rest of her juice before getting up. "Where would you like these?" She asked about her dishes as she picked up the plate and glass from the table, eyes searching for the sink in the kitchen.

"I'm still holding out hope," Keryn claimed, grinning as he ate his breakfast.
"Oh, you can just set it there on the counter for now. I'll get one of the boys to wash them later," Emma told her. "Go on and fix your dog something to eat as well."
Anya didn't want to leave it at that, but she knew pestering him about it would help nothing. He had been there for her, listened to her a she worked through all the grief and pain that had befallen them in the passed few months. She wanted him to know that she would gladly be there for him if he needed the favor returned. But Seth wasn't like her. He didn't share his thoughts unless he deemed them to be worthy of other people knowing. So all she could do was nod. "Good," she murmured. "Then I won't ask about it again until you're ready."

Lawrence didn't reply as the boy left his tent. Any minute now, Cami would be there. He'd get her side of things, cross check facts with the werecats would provide when, or if, they showed up. They were difficult to deal with, and if they didn't offer valuable services he wouldn't bother keeping them around.
"Right this way then," the runner said, turning and waiting long enough for her to follow before leading the group to Lawrence's tent.

Seth sighed. "Thank you. I know you just want to help, but talking about this stuff has never been my strong suit. When I figure it out, you'll be the first to know."
The front door opened just then. A minute later, Aidan came charging in chanting, "Food food food food. It made Seth laugh, even as he halted the boy with a hand on his shoulder. "Whoa there. I think you need to wash up first. You look like you were rolling around in the hay."
Aidan grinned. "I was. The puppies were super playful."
Seth chuckled. "I can see that. Go clean up. Breakfast should be ready by the time you get back."
"Okay!" He spun around and ran back the way he'd come, then hurried up the stairs to the bathroom.
~ • ~ • ~ Cami glanced back at the guys before stepping out of the tent to follow him. Morgan abd Callum walked on either side of her. After a few minutes, she suddenly started giggling.
Morgan looked over at her and arched one brow. "What's so funny?"
She giggled some more and pushed her hair behind her ear. "I feel like a celebrity, and you two are my bodyguards. Made me laugh."
Morgan chuckled. "Well, you aren't that far off with the bodyguard part."
She grinned. "I know. That's why I want you both with me."

Evaleigh nodded and set them down on the counter before picking up a few leftover things for Beau, who, in anticipation, had followed her to the kitchen. Sure, they had given her permission, but Evaleigh still felt bad for feeding him perfectly good food, so she chose what looked to be some of the worst pieces. Beau sat at Evaleighs feet, chest to her knees, and gently took the food from her hands. His large white tail whisked against the floor, Evaleigh could only imagine the amount of dirt and hair he was stirring up. “Does your car shop also happen to repair tires?” She asked Mathias, remembering that she had put on a spare. “I got a flat tire on my way out of town. I mean, if you can’t get the blood out here,” She pointed to the ground “and we have to take the car to town. I’ll pay if you can fix it.”

Anya was about to reply when Aidan burst into the room. Not wanting to talk about it in front of him, she would wait and let Seth dictate when he was ready to bring it back up. Instead, she smiled at Aidan's chanting and the state of disarray he already found himself in. "His going to be lost without those puppies," she commented, plating the first batch of omelets and starting on another.

It didn't take long for them to reach Lawrence's office. As procedure, the runner knocked on the outer post, waited for the call of entry, and then entered. There was little need for it, but he went ahead and stated his business. "I have Miss Vera and her brothers with me, sir."
Lawrence had a feeling that she would be accompanied. What was it with this crew and following orders? "Send them in," he said. It looks like he'd have to deal with another stubborn youth today.
"We do a little bit of everything," Mathias confirmed. "I believe we should have something to fix the tire. If not, we can order you one. It might take a few days to get it in though if that's the case."

"Hmm..." Evaliegh thought about this for a moment. She had never thought about the time it would take to for the tire to come in, or that she would get a flat tire in the first place. Now that she was thinking about it, Evaleigh did not even know the range of how much it would cost. She had saved around 2000 big bucks for her grand escape but suddenly she was not sure that was enough. "Okay, I hope it's fixable." Maybe it wasn't that important after all but she felt like she couldn't say anything now. What if they asked questions and found out she was running away.

Seth tilted his head in acknowledgement. "That should work. I'm already giving him drawing lessons. What's one more teaching challenge?"
~ • ~ • ~ "And I told you I would be here when you spoke to my sister." Callum stepped further into the tent and met Lawrence's gaze steadily. "Look, Lawrence, I'll put it to you straight. I am not one of your Rebels. I am not here to become one of your Rebels. I am here because my brother played with fire and my family and I were about to bear the brunt of the burn. Morgan got us out, which I appreciate, and your girl Kyra brought us here, because she promised us we'd be safe. And yet, after hardly a week within your secure borders, my sister gets assaulted. So no, sir, I will not be obeying your orders until you give me a reason to trust you. Nor will I be leaving my sister alone with you. We've been screwed over enough. I'm not about to let it happen again. You got me?" He wasn't exactly disrespectful in his delivery, but he sure wasn't respectful either. He sounded like a lawyer, stating facts confidently and leaving little room for argument.

Evaleigh found her way back to her seat at the table. “Just 10? Good thing I only counted eight pieces then.” She said sinking down into the chair, stonewall face before cracking a smile. “Actually, I had a flat tire, I would only imagine that it was a small hole. Heavens, I hardly drive the car and of course, this kind of thing would happen to me.” Evaleigh shook her head in disbelief “And then I thought I found a dead body…. Though thankfully Dallas was alive.” Yes, thank the heavens and the gods and every diety known to humanity because she would not have known what to do. “So,” She paused looking around at the people at the table “Why do you all live out here? All of you together. Are you like related… or…?” She trailed off, not sure what to fill in the blank with. They did not all look like they were from the same family, I mean she had heard of extended families so it was possible. Still, she wondered how Dallas and the doctor fit into the whole picture. Evaleigh remembered Dallas referring to Stitch as just a friend or maybe it was roommates?

"It's hard for him," Anya said. "Poor thing has lost everyone he was closest to already. Can you blame him for thinking it'll happen again? Not to mention he's holding on to his guilt for having to steal these passed few months. He doesn't really believe that my family would take him in, even though they already have."
~*~*~*
Lawrence listened to the speech calmly until he finished. "As you said, you are not one of us," he started. "By that logic, I am under no obligations to harbor you or your family. I have every right to turn you out into the world and let whatever ill fate befall you. I have no obligations to handle this matter and give your sister any sort of justice. I have no reason to hold one of my best spies under lockdown and face possible punishment for his actions you have claimed. But I do have the right to have you thrown into prison for intruding in this camp and attacking our members, all under the charge that you could possibly be sent here by Genevieve. You would never see the light of day again."
The man leaned forward, elbows on his desk and hands clasped in front of him as he held the younger man's gaze. "But I am. I am not a man who lets offenses made by my people go unnoticed. While they are a rough lot, I do not let them run lawlessly about. Even so, there is only so much that I can do on my own. This camp may have 'secure borders,' as you put it, but you are highly misunderstanding what that means. We are secured from the threat of being ambushed by soldiers and Riders wishing to kill us. We are secure from average citizen wandering by from discovering our camp and then going and spreading gossip of what they saw to prying ears. That is how we are secure. You're sister's chances of being assaulted here is no higher than it was back in Ilera, a fact I'm sure you're aware of but are too worked up over everything else to want to admit. You're looking for a person to blame, and you found it in me. Fine, I'll take it, but if you so wish to have this matter resolved in favor of your sister, than I suggest you listen to my orders and do what you're told. Ask anyone here, and they will testify I am not biased. I've put many good men of mine in the holding cells for offenses proven against them. This one will be no different, if you can learn your place. I am already extending you more courtesy towards you than I am entitled to give, so I think you need to rethink your stance on the matter before saying anything further. For it may affect your sister far more than it will affect me."
Cortez chuckled at her response. She was funny, he'd give her that. "There's still a chance he is dead. Haven't heard anything from him since Stitch got out here. You bleed the boy dry, doc?"
Stitch, who really wasn't as irritable as he was putting on now, settled a withering look to Cortez. "Do you wish to join him and find out?" he asked.
"Enough bickering at the table," Mathias told them, his voice casual but there was an underlying tone that meant he was to be listened to. Then he turned to Evaleigh to answer her question. "We're sort of like the House of Wayward Souls. My wife and I have a bad habit of wanting to help those in need, so we built this house out here where we could do it. A lot of people come and go, but the majority of the like this place enough to stay. We're sort of a mixed matched family, but one we're proud of."

“Oh, please, don’t say that.” Evaleigh shook her head rubbing her eyes with her hands, she couldn't imagine that she drove Dallas here just for him to die.
She raised her eyebrows and pressed her lips together at Mathias’ tone. Evaleigh was used to the subtleties. Her parents used them often, but always passively. She listened to the explanation of the roots of this household. “Interesting. I didn’t think places like this actually existed.” She said in wonder. It felt like there were a lot of things she didn’t know.
“What do people who stay have to do in return? Pay rent, household chores?” Evaleigh’s curiosity was peaked. Was it fate or destiny that she had found Dallas on the side of the road like that? Found this place that takes in lost people? Was she lost? Evaleigh considered this thought for a moment. Maybe, but she wasn’t afraid of that, more like excited, about discovering the world for herself.

"Do not pay him any mind. Dallas is completely fine and resting," Stitch assured her. "This idiot just likes to get carried away with his words."
Mathias thought about it for a moment. Her curiosity was normal. She was a stranger in an unknown place, stumbled upon a bleeding boy and brought him back to a house in the middle of nowhere. They all understood that making people feel comfortable in their house was vital for having unwanted attention towards them, he could make out the tinge of hope that was mixed with her words. He guessed he shouldn't have exactly used that wording, but it was the best explanation he could give without hinting at the truth. And while they had no problems with having her here now, having a human, a full blooded human, stay with them for a long period of time wouldn't be the smartest idea. More so for their sake more than hers. But he had started the subject, and he wasn't going to suddenly ignore her conversation.
"They do help keep up the house, and those that work will pitch in for groceries and utilities, but there's not really any huge requirements for staying here," Mathias answered. "So long as no one makes trouble, then they're welcomed."

Evaleigh nodded at Stitch and his comment, “I noticed that.” She said with a slight smile. She listened to Mathias and she paused for a moment, a very slight one, to think about this. “Would it be possible for me to stay, just one night? I wouldn’t want to get you guys in trouble… er... I mean I don’t want to cause any trouble.” Evaleigh recovered from a slight stumble whilst internally scolding herself for saying that. She held a strong poker face as if her words were completely by mistake. She wondered if they would get in trouble if her parents somehow, lord knows how, traced her here. That’s why she said just one night.
“I just thought maybe it would take some time to get the blood out of my seat and check my tire, so if that’s not able to get done before too late, I may need to stay just one night,” She suggested. “Then I will be out of your hair, gone like the wind. And very thankful for everything you are doing.” Evaleigh reached up and brushed her bangs out of her eyes so she could better see Mathias and his reaction to her proposal. She would definitely pay, even if all they had was the couch, since she did not have anything else to offer.

For a brief moment, Evaleigh felt that maybe she had said something wrong. The room was silent but just as quickly Mathias responded with a smile. She glanced down at her dog, who had joined her at the table and became comfortable once more on the cool floor. “I don’t mind. I really enjoy being around people.” She said with a smile before chuckling at the Dallas comment “I would like that.” Then she would leave and continue her adventures elsewhere to Flounder? Or was it Fairview? Fulton! That’s what the town’s called. “Oh! Also, I don’t really have anything else to offer but I do have some money, I can pay for my stay.” Everything should be right as rain. She wanted to call her parents and show them she was doing just fine. On her first day solo, she had rescued someone and managed a place to stay for the night.

"Don't even think about paying," Emma said. "You are our guest. One who helped one of our own. That in itself deserves a few nights stay free of charge. Here, why don't we go get your bags before these men start cleaning it. Wouldn't want to get in their way and give them an excuse to stop their work." Her words were said in jest and topped off with an affectionate pat to her husband's shoulder as she stood up to carry her own plate to the sink. "Keryn, I believe it is your turn on dish duty, so don't forget to do them as well."
Keryn gave a groan. "But I did it last night," he grumbled.
"True, but today is your wife's day to do it, and since she had a rough night, that now falls to you. Any objections?"
"No," Keryn replied in mock defeat. He really didn't mind doing the chores in his wife's stead. In fact, he had been doing most of her chores along with hers these past few weeks.
Anya looked up and watched him as he set the table. "I know you won't believe it even if I say it again, but I really don't hold everything you've done against you. Neither does Morgan, and I'm sure Cresseida and Cami will understand too when we find them."

Evaleigh was surprised, she thought cleaning her car was thanks enough “Oh… okay.” Maybe she shouldn’t make a big deal of it, her money was limited until she could find a job. She would have to find another way to repay them. ”Ah okay, I just have one thing in my car. I’ll go and grab it.” Evaleigh got up out of her seat and headed to the door. Beau followed behind her, the leash also dragging behind as his owner hadn’t removed it yet. Evaleigh took hold of the purple leash before they went outside together. She never knew what this stubborn dog was going to do. The girl remembered that she had placed the suitcase in the backseat when she had loaded Dallas into the car and swiftly popped open the door and pulled it out of the car. She shut the door using her hip before walking back into the house. The suitcase wasn’t very big and was a little banged up, as a matter of fact, there was a fraying hole in the top right corner that had been duct-taped shut. It had wheels but they didn’t exactly roll, so it was best to carry it. Evaleigh had not expected much when she found it by the trash, just glad it did the job and held her stuff in one place.

While she went out to get her bag, the others waited until she was completely out of the door before they started talking again.
"Is this a good idea?" Cortez asked in hushed tones. "I mean, yeah, she helped Dallas, but to stay over night? The full moon is just a week away! We're already starting to get antsy."
"One night is not going to hurt. Now silence! No more talk of this," Mathias ordered in the same volume, but now there was no mistaken the tone in his voice that left no room for argument. He heard the car door shut, muffled as it was, and knew it wouldn't be long before Evaleigh would be back inside. "Stitch, I trust you and Emma can handle things with her. Get her settled in. Keryn, come join us when you've finished the dishes. Come on, Cortez, lets go see what we can do." With that, the men stood up and began to head out towards the garage where they kept everything and anything car related just as their guest was making her way into the house once more.

Evaleigh entered the house, this time a suitcase and dog in hand. She closed the door behind her and walked over to the kitchen. Seeing everyone had gotten busy in her absence, either washing dishes or heading off somewhere else. “Well, this is all I have.” She said placing the awkward suitcase on the ground and glancing between Stitch and Emma, who seemed to not be busying themselves at the moment.
