@ Forgotten: Winter casted a confused looked towards the door. "Why on earth would they do it there?" Was the first question that flew from his mouth He was glad for the warning, but he was now more confused then ever. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* The voice that answered him was not his brother's. It was a girl whom Loran had no knowledge of.Well, that wasn't true. As his memories began to become clearer, the seemed to remember a girl finding him. But was it the same girl as the one who had spoken? Loran waited for the girl to return as he pondered this question. He had heard her talking with someone by the door, but there was no one else who entered the room. So it was just the two of them. "L-Loran..." He forced his name out of his dry and sore throat. The elf could still taste blood in his mouth, so when she told him to drink, he didn't argue. As carefully as he could, he tried to prop himself up on one elbow, knowing he wouldn't be able to sit up completely. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* As she had thought, Thayer found it quiet easy to follow the path the horse had taken through town. Of course, she didn't travel without suspicion. Several people that she passed saw her ears since she had brushed her hair back and out of her face. Cold stares followed her, but she didn't care. If she stopped to address them, who knows what would happen. Finally, she turned down another alley and stopped in her tracks. The path led straight this way, that she was sure of due to the rider's body on the ground. That's not why she stopped. No, it was the site of Pax holding the dead man that caught her by surprise. "Pax?" Thayer called, taking a catious step forward. "How did you get here?" ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* storm: Tim nodded, knowing that's how they normally did things. It was just that Jace was different than the others he had brought to stay here, or at least he was in the social worker's mind. "You're right. I'll go get him and his things, and then we can all talk about whatever you want," Tim said, turning to walk back to the car. He opened he passenger side door and told Jace he needed to get out. The boy acted as if he hadn't heard a thing. With a sigh, Tim reached in and grabbed the boy's arm, pulling him out of the car. Winter barely had just enough time to grab hold of the handle above the car door, saving himself from falling to the ground. He stood and glared daggers at the man, but the look was lost since Tim was too busy retrieving his duffel bags out of the back seat.

Andy descended towards Jace, gently smiling. "Hi, Jace. I'm Andy East, my family owns and operates this ranch. We are incredibly happy to have you join us." Eric hung back, quietly watching the boy while Charlotte trailed after her mother. Anger radiated off of the boy in waves, and boy, was she glad that looks couldn't kill. Charlotte had seen this type before, of course, the type that hated the world and everything in it. Jace had seen some things in his life, though, and Charlotte didn't particularly blame him if he did happen to see the world that way.
A grin lit Charlotte's face up as she peeked around her mother, tucking a curly strand of red hair behind an ear. "I'm Charlotte, it's really great to meet you. Do you go by Jace, or is there another name you prefer?" Maybe he was just shy, this was an entirely new place after all and it wasn't as if he had come here willingly. But, alas, Charlotte knew he'd end up loving it here. Most people did, and Charlotte had already set her determination against Jace being the first one to hate it.

Thayer watched the boy for a moment. He seemed truly upset over the stranger. Perhaps he might have known him? She wasn't sure, nor did she feel right to ask. "I don't know," she answered him, taking a few more steps forward. As upset as he was, Thayer couldn't help but feel something was off. She just didn't know what it was. "But I do plan on finding out. So will my father. This is not what we intended to happen on our trip here, so I can only imagine how he will take the news."
(Hehe, he's going to be fun to interact with.)
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Winter turned his glare to the woman and daughter walking, or bouncing in Andy's case, towards him. He could literally see the perkiness oozing out of the older woman, which made him unconsciously take a step back. He couldn't go to far, though, since the car was right behind him.
"He goes by Winter a lot by his friends," Tim answered for Jace, knowing the boy wouldn't answer. He had known him long enough to know that Jace had a habit of using the silent treatment when he was mad.

[he is, oh boy. especially since, for now, nobody has any dirt on him except niklis.]
"My father too," Pax replied. His brow furrowed, and he stared at the dead man's face as if transfixed, horrifically so. "We can't have this happening in Redmont, especially not when you and your family are here to help establish the greatest peace this town has seen in years." Here he stopped thoughtfully, gently easing the body back to the group, careful not to snap any of the protruding arrow shafts. His hands hovered over the man as if he wanted to scoop him up again, cradle him until someone worked a miracle and breathed life back into his body, but he refrained, instead placing his bloodied palms on his knees, heedless of the red stains that would be left on his breeches.
"What if someone is doing this on purpose?" he asked Thayer from his seat on the ground. He wrung his hands. "We should get you back to my estate. I don't want anyone to blame you. I would hate if that happened to any of our guests, especially you and your kin. It would be disastrous."

(Poor Nik. I feel this info will only get him into trouble.)
Thayer sighed and walked over to the boy on the ground. "Some did do it on purpose, that much I can say for certain," she said. "As much as I hate to admit it, there are elves who, just like humans, do not want this peace treaty. Granted, their numbers are few, I wouldn't put it past them to kill a human if one was trespassing on elven land.
As for going back to the castle, I'm going to deny that offer. My father will be here soon, and I want to be able to see first hand of anything he finds."

"WInter. I like it. Sort of a mysterious name." Charlotte faintly smiled, her eyes flicking towards Tim. "Well, let's all go inside, shall we? Once we're done with the introductions and getting you settled, Charlotte can give you a quick tour of the ranch, and take you out to the stables so we can get started." Eric had approached the group by then, offering a deep nod of greeting towards Winter. "I'm Eric." Short, sweet, classic Eric. He was a man that wasn't about mushy introduction speeches.
Charlotte padded over to Tim, slinging one of the bags over her shoulder. "Tim, you can go on ahead of me, I can take his bags from here." She was sure there was some kind of business that had to take place inside, there was no need for the social worker to waste time dragging bags in behind him.

whisper Lumi moved forward to move the pillow a bit behind him so he could sit up, watching him so that he was careful with his leg, "The splint is rather makeshift, I had to work with what I could find." she explained, pursing her lips at the leg. That and she had spent a lot of her money on the medicine she had given him. She didn't know why she did it... She just did. She passed over the mug to Loran once he had sat up, smiling warmly at him, "It's nice to meet you, Loran. I'm Emmeline, but you can call me Lumi." she said, before taking the cloth away from him so he didn't have this wet thing falling off his head once he sat off, setting it in her lap. Her gaze trailed over to his ears, where she stared at them curiously, before going back to his face. She had to ask him... Though, she was afraid to bombard him with questions when he just woke up. "What were you doing so close to human territory?" she asked, folding her hands in her lap though it was obvious she was at the read, prepared to help him if needed to. It was all very strange because she could die just for helping a man she didn't know... But death was a terrible thing, and she felt as if, well, elves and humans had more similarities than people thought.

@ Forgotten: Winter shuddered a bit at the thought of going to ask the two adults. It was certain at the top of his "Never in a Million Years" list. "Thanks for the heads up," he muttered, actually sincere with those words. The boy liked to wander around at night. It was the best time to figure out escape routes and maybe nab a few items on the way out. If he were to walk in on the couple... Shaking his head violently, Winter tried to get the image out of his mind. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* storm: Winter resisted the urge to roll his eyes as the girl commented on his nickname. It wasn't anything special, just his last name. But he kept his mouth shut. That comment wasn't important enough to break his silence over. "Thank you, Charlotte, but I think I need to walk behind Jace to make sure he doesn't make a mad dash back to the car," Tim replied, but let her take one of the bags. There was nothing heavy in it, so he didn't feel too bad about having her take it off him. It just freed up one hand to help herd Jace into the house. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* Loran blinked at the mention of the split. Looking down, sure enough, he saw the make-shift split fastened to his leg. Luckily, he hadn't moved his leg any so there was no pain coming from the broken limb. In fact, he couldn't feel it at all. His attention moved back to the mug as it was handed to him. He nodded and took it. Unsure how it would taste, the elf decided it'd be better to just chug it down. And that he did. Turning the mug up, he drank the contents of the mug in three swallows. The drink didn't taste the best, but it did feel good on his parched throat. It also washed down the taste of blood. Handing the mug back to the girl, he was finally able to see her clearly. She looked to be young, maybe in her late teens just as he appeared. Her frame was small, and face was pleasing to look at. She may be a human, but at least she was pretty. "I was out hunting," Loran answered the girl, finding it easier to talk. He just had to be careful not to take in too big of a breath or his ribs would start aching. "My brother and I also go hunting this time of year. We all head our separate ways and try to see who can bring back the most or the biggest game. I choose to go south, knowing the dangers, yet I took the risk anyway."

Pax didn't get to ask any more questions, though, because at that moment, the sound of footsteps echoed around the corner, followed immediately by three men with Chastmere's crest emblazoned on the front of their tabards. They all carried swords, and when they spotted Pax, they lowered their weapons. "Are you all right?" the youngest of the three asked, running straight to Pax and giving him a hand to get to his feet. Pax nodded, and remembering his manners, the young man bowed to Thayer. "And you as well? What happened here?"

"Well, that wasn't very smart of you, was it?" Lumi said as she busied herself checking his wound on his stomach, flashing him a smile to show that she was just joking. Not much had bled through because she had sewn it up, not to mention it looked to be doing pretty well. She let out a soft sigh of relief before gently wrapping him back up so that it wouldn't hurt a lot. She than took the mug into the kitchen, placing it on the counter before peeking out of the curtains. She was nervous someone would come by and find out he was here, seeing as she kinda didn't want to die for a very long time. She walked back over to the couch, checking his forehead for a moment. The medicine hadn't kicked in quite yet, but he seemed to be doing okay, which was a relief for her, "Just relax. I promise no one will harm you here." she assured him, playing with the damp rag in her hand as she managed another smile, though she was obviously worried. Not to mention, she didn't have a lot of money anymore. She had to start painting more, and soon, so that she could afford whatever she needed, including a new dress due to the one that was now covered in blood, "Are you hungry? Even a small slice of bread would be good, just to keep you going." she suggested, studying him with her ocean blue eyes as she spoke.

[i'm a diehard pokemon fan. i've always been that way. and i think his name started with a j? doesn't matter, though, no biggie.]
"I'm so sorry this had to happen on your first day here," Pax said, both to Thayer and Danir, even nodding to the elven company in Danir's wake. He had all outward appearances of genuine remorse. "I was separated from your daughters when the crowd closed up and the horse came around the far corner of the river district. It was a golden one, probably not a warhorse, and this man" -he gestured to the body on the ground- "was hanging from the saddle. By the time I got here, he'd fallen off. I wasn't able to catch the horse before it went east from that end of the alley.
"We should have taken more safety precautions," he went on, gnawing on his lower lip. "I'm so sorry."
Beside the body, one of Chastmere's men was inspecting the arrow shafts with a frown. He was older, likely a long time member of Chastmere's contingent, and a salt-and-pepper beard covered a great deal of his face. "These aren't elven arrows," he grunted. "They look like it, but they're too flimsy, and the fletchings are dyed wrong the wrong shade. I've pulled my fair share of them out of people. I ought to know."

Loran might still be in a state of fever induced daze, but he wasn't fooled into knowing that he was safe here. Anyone could spot by without the girl knowing, and he would be able to hide. That would only result in both of their deaths. It wasn't a fate he wished upon the girl that had taken him into her home. "Bread actually sounds good," he replied, choosing now wasn't the time to dive into a full fledged discussion of how much of a risk she was taking. Instead, he laid back down, easing the strain in his back as he held himself upright. He gave a small sigh as the pain faded a bit. There was so much he wanted to know. What had happened after his mind no longer took in memories? How had he managed to get from the forest to this home? And more importantly, why was this human helping him? His questions would have to wait, however, since he could already feel exhaustion creeping back to him.

Danir, upon hearing the older man's remark, moved to inspect the body as well. He knelt down beside the older man, taking one of the arrows in his fingers to study them. "You're right. These arrows aren't elven," he confirmed. Whoever made them was skilled, but no where near skilled as our craftsmen. Though each archer tries to use a different color for their feathers, you'll have many who share the same dye, but the dye is almost always the same shade. I've never seen anyone use this shade before. Most likely, someone wanted you to think it was us to stir up trouble."
Thayer listened to the two talk, trying to store the information as they spoke. Still, something didn't seem right to her. "I saw the rider fall off the horse make on the main street," she said. "His foot was caught in the stirrup and was being dragged behind his horse. And from what I could tell, it didn't look like he was coming free anytime soon."
"It wouldn't be strange for his foot to finally slip from the saddle," Danir explained to her daughter. "He would have had to have been tied to the saddle to keep him from being separated for his steed. Otherwise, the constant jostling might have eventually freed him."

{Aha don't worry about it~ Excited! }
Lumi smiled gently and got to her feet once more, walking over to the cupboard and pulling out one of those bread holders, opening it and pulling a knife out of a drawer, then quickly slicing off one of the pieces for him and set it on a plate she had pulled out of the cupboard when she pulled out the bread. She placed the knife to get cleaned aside and put the bread away, then brought the plate with the bread over to Loran, setting it on the chair as she went to go wet the rag again, setting it back on his head. She stared down at the piece of bread as she set the plate in her hands, then looked back up at Loran. He seemed tired, and she was fully expecting him to fall back asleep soon. She herself still looked exhausted, and would probably bring her blankets out here to sleep on the ground so she was close by incase he needed something, "You can sleep, if you want. I'll leave the bread on the table, so when you wake up it'll be here." she said quietly, setting it aside for him. She than disappeared into her room, which was the only other room in the cottage other than a small room which was presumably the bathroom, than came back. Oh yah, and her cottage. I hadn't really explained how it looked. Since it was small, Loran was placed on a couch that sat at the side of the room, the fireplace in the wall to the side so the couch was decently close. The room was also the living room, and also the kitchen. There was one window where the cupboards were for the kitchen, and another on the wall near the door. There were various canvases here and there, and some were half painted, some were not. Though, other than the scattered art supplies, the room was very clean and cozy, with a small table to eat food at the side with a couple chairs, and a carpet on the ground in front of the couch. She emerged from her room a couple moments later and placed her pillows and blankets on the ground, not too far from him but far enough, "I'm actually really tired, but I'll be right here." she glanced at the windows, "The curtains are closed, so no one should be able to see in... If someone comes, we'll deal with it then." she added with a weak smile, curling up into her blankets on the ground, "We'll talk in the morning, okay?"

Loran -- Male -- Appears to be 19 Loran stands at 6'1", average height for an elf. Like all elves, his frame was lithe and agile, but at the same time was hardy and toned from years of hunting and training, even if his muscles didn't show it on first glance. His face consisted of sharp angles that were softened by full lips and bright green eyes. His brunette hair reached passed his shoulders, and he usually had one, small braid on the right side. Think of Legolas's hair, only brown. Loran's fashion consists of mainly tunics of either green, brown, or grey, brown pants, and his favorite pair of hunting boots. Yet he does own a few items of clothing for special occasions. For the most part, Loran is a lad back kind of guy. He's a jokester and likes to have fun, but at the same time, he knows when to serious and get things accomplished when the need arises. Humor won't solve everything, and he knows it.
(There he is. ^^ )
Loran reached for the bread as soon as Lumi set the plate close enough to him. "I think I should try to eat something now," he muttered. "I'll need something to keep me going through the night." With that said, he took a bite from the bread slice he was given. Even if it wasn't freshly baked, it still tasted good to the elf. He had skipped breakfast that morning because he had been on the trail of a deer that had walked too close to his campsite. In only a few bites, the bread was gone. His hunger was still there, but he didn't ask for more. He didn't want to over eat and make himself sick. "You don't have to stay on the floor," he muttered. "You can go sleep in your bed."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Ah yes, let me go get the game ready," James said. His memory was weird. Ask him about something that happened three years ago, and he could give you every detail. Asked him what he had for breakfast, and the boy's mind would go blank.
