(It's okay)
It was afternoon already so Alice was obviously awake and dressed and everything. Though she couldn't help but notice her parents, Duke and Wendy, acting slightly more upbeat than usual. After all, it was usually her dad that did the laundry, yet her mom was today and she was running in and out of all of the bedrooms, cleaning them spotlessly while her dad was outside spiffing up the backyard. "What has gotten into these people..." she muttered to herself and grabbed a bottle of soda from the fridge, careful not to spill it all over the counter and herself. Just as she was heading back upstairs to her room, she noticed both of her parents practically run to the front door, straighten out each other's clothing, then greet whoever was in her driveway. Alice just assumed it was some old friend of theirs or something. "Hello!! You must be Tim, I'm Wendy, I spoke with you over the phone. This is my husband Duke." Duke held out his hand and shook Tim's firmly, "So how has Jace been taking this whole thing?" Duke queried, curious about the attitude of the young man soon to be living with them.

"So he's not excited about actually having a home?!" Wendy exclaimed, cupping both of her cheeks with hers hands dramatically to which Duke rolled his eyes. "How tragic!" "Yes, dear. It is." Duke sighed, only to get his wife to calm down again before she got herself going. "Alright, well how about we meet the young lad and attempt to get him settled in." Duke suggested and escorted his wife back inside simultaneously calling Alice down to meet somebody, though that was something Alice actively ignored even if she would hear everything about it from her father later, not that she cared all that much to be honest.

{Super sorry this all happened so quick, I didn't know how to proceed with things. :x I hope this is okay.}
"Shhhhhh." Lumi hushed him, cursing at herself in her mind, frustrated that he was in so much pain and she couldn't do anything at the moment. His crying out hurt her ears, and made her want to puke. But she continued on, pulling him along with her down the path. Her dress was getting soaked with blood, which she could feel, and she tired to ignore it to the best of her ability. She didn't have a lot of dresses, and to have another ruined... Ugh. Anyways. She continued on down the path. It was a long and lengthy process, and she had to deal with the elfs' hot, bloody body on her back. But soon enough, thankfully, they both arrived at the small cabin like house on the outskirts of town, and she managed to open her door, dragging him in after her. She was almost toppling over from the events of the day, and than what happened with him... She was a small woman, so carrying any kind of man would be hard. She managed to drag him over to the couch, and then carefully laid him down, shushing him gently, "I-It's okay... You can be as loud as you want now..." she said quietly to him, before she began to move around her cabin. First off, she grabbed a towel and wet it, moving back over to set it onto his head. She needed something to calm down the fever, but before really working on that, she needed to concentrate on his wound. So she managed to rip his shirt down the middle, pushing it off his chest and down some of his arms so that she could concentrate on his stomach, biting her bottom lip carefully as she did so. She'd never done this before... And she was kinda freaking out, but she tried her hardest not to show it. She then pulled up her sewing kit, grabbing some ointments and a thing that was kind of like antibiotics. She moved to his head, holding a cloth close to his mouth, not really knowing if he was awake or not, "I'm going to put this in your mouth... Bite down when you need to scream, okay?" she said, before putting it in his mouth. She than proceeded to clean out his cut, carefully and quickly, using a cloth and the stuff she had pulled out for emergencies. She then proceeded to begin to stitch up his wounds, glad she had been sewing for a long time, but putting the needle through human skin was a lot different than cloth. Thankfully, she put it in the disinfectant stuff first to make sure it was clean, as the last thing she really wanted was his wound to get infected after all the work she had done. She then let him rest for a bit after putting white bandages around his waist, wetting the cloth once more with cold water before she wiped his forehead with it carefully. She needed to get some kind of medicine as soon as possible... Something to help his fever. And something to stabilize his leg, seeing as it didn't look quite right. It might... Might be broken. But for now, Lumi was doing all that she could. So she continued to wipe his forehead with the wet cloth as she watched over him, hoping he would be okay soon.

(You're welcome!) "Sounds like trouble," Danir muttered. "Tawna, you stay here with Mei. I'll go get the guards and find Thayer." It wouldn't be too hard to track her down. After all, if the humans did figure out the rider was killed by elven arrows, he knew it wouldn't be had tracking down where his daughter was. Tawna frowned, already reaching for her sturdy boots. "We're coming with you," she protested. "You know it's safer if we stay together here." Mei was inclined to agree with her mother, if only because the thought of sitting idly while Thayer ran headlong into disaster sent her stomach into all manner of anxious acrobatics. "I can lead you to the spot where we saw the horse first, too," she chimed in, hoping to make herself useful.

@ Forgotten: "That sounds like it will be the best thing to do," Tim agreed with Duke. "I'll go get him." With that, the man walked back over to car. Winter was staring straight out of the windshield, intentionally ignoring the presence of his social worker. Not even when he opened the car door. "Jace, time to get out," Tim said, but the boy gave no sign that he had heard. So, with a sigh, Tim reached in and pulled Winter out of the car, which wasn't really hard to do. Winter had just enough time to grab hold of the handle above the door to save himself from falling to the ground. Standing, up, he stood up and cast a glare in Tim's direction, but the look was lost as the man got his duffel bags out of the back seat.

(Oh, it's fine. It makes good sense to me.)
Time and distance no longer was a thing in Loran's mind. The constants hobbling pace was the only thing that he was aware of. How he managed to make it all the way to her home was a mystery since he probably couldn't even tell her his own name. He had no control over his body or over the sounds he made. At this point, the elf was barely conscious, and only the girl who was dragging him was what was keeping him going. A groan escaped his lips as he was finally lowered onto the couch. Loran opened his eyes for just a moment, his vision blurry, but still able to see the human's figure above him before she disappeared to get the supplies to help him. That's when he let his eyes fall closed once more. There was no protest when the cloth was forced into his mouth, mainly because there wasn't much to argue about. Not that the rag did any good. The moment just began to clean the wound and stitch it up, he gave one strangled cry before falling unconscious.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
"Yes, you have a point, but I don't know how bad the situation will be when I get there, nor do I know how the human's will react. I want you two to stay here where it's safe," Danir said. "I know you two are worried, but I don't want to put any of us in any more danger than we might already be in. Plus, if things go badly, someone will have to take care of business with Chastmere and tell the Queen what has happened."

*NightwhisperDuke huffed a curt laugh as Tim pulled Winter out of the car, literally, that was all his laughs consisted of since he was a retired Military Sergeant. He took the duffle bags from Tim and took them inside to Winter's room on the second floor down the hall from Alice's room. "Gotta put a leash on the kid, I swear." Duke muttered, not knowing and not caring if Winter heard him or not. Wendy took over talking to Tim in her usual peppy but dramatic tone, "So! Tim, I am assuming that you will be stopping by every now and then to check in on things! We certainly won't turn you down to stop by, though we would appreciate an hour heads up!" she practically sang and giggled. Duke and Wendy were definitely an interesting couple to say the least. "Alice!" Duke called from Winter's room, "Come meet Jace!" 'Who the heck is Jace? oh, he must be that one kid Mom and Dad were taking in... lame..'Again Alice ignored her father's call and stayed tucked away in her room.

Duke walked up to Jace's room and out his things on his bed before turning to Jace, "If you want a new comforter and sheets, just as Wendy, she's be glad to spoil you, trust me." He said with a blank chuckle, clapped him on the shoulder then walked out of the room, letting the teen have his space - he knew far too well to give it to him thanks to Alice. That was also the reason he hadn't stormed into her room for ignoring him. Wendy nodded along with Tim, her happy little grin seemingly never ending. "Alrighty then! Give us a jingle at any time!" She sang again and ushered everybody out of the room and downstairs so Winter could be alone. Not for long anyways. Alice was waiting for any and all adults to leave the second floor before she emerged into the hallway. She walked casually down the hall to Winter's room and leaned on the door frame, "So the hand off process was a success. Aching to leave yet?" She sneered, but she was only trying to push his buttons, not even caring if it got on his nerves.

inky {INKY YOU LUCKY FUFJIWKJNHERRUJIK}
whisper Lumi watched the elf with a worried, pensive look. What was she going to do? If any human guards came by and discovered him here, both of them would be killed. Maybe even on the spot. And then all her efforts would go to waste... But that still didn't mean that she wasn't going to help him, and seeing as he had passed out, she was going to take this moment as an opportunity. She moved over to his leg, studying it for a couple moments, and then going to grab two longs pieces of wood from outside her house. She dragged them both back in, before studying his leg nervously one more. Carefully, quick, she shifted his leg back into the position it was supposed to be in. There were some uncomfortable noises that echoed out from the leg, and she tried not to loose her lunch by that. She than positioned the two pieces of wood on either side, finding herself using both of her knees to push them together as she wrapped bandages over and over tightly around his leg to make up some kind of brace, pulling it together and tightly clipping it shut. Now, hopefully, his leg could heal too. It was only then Lumi disappeared into the back of her house to change. She ripped off her bloody dress and tossed it to the side, pulling on a new, similar one, but this one was a lilac colour that rested off the shoulders and didn't pull tightly around her waist unless she wanted it to. It could be a nightgown, but it wasn't, it was probably one of the few dresses she hadn't made and didn't want it to ruin, so she only put it on after cleaning the blood off herself with a wet rag, quickly doing so so she could return back to the elves side. She continued to work on his fever, wetting the rag yet again and then going towards the cabinets to search for something, some sort of medicine to help him out. But again, she only found nothing, and turned to her last resort, which consisted of writing a small note on a pieces of paper and then opening the door. A small owl appeared, to which she tied the message to the leg, telling her to find said person. The owl was her own pet, of course, and had been trained to deliver notes to others. And the person she was delivering a note to was a regular. She then returned back to the couch side, continuing to wipe the sweat off the elves brow and watching over him, just in case in some random way, he woke up.

Loran laid on the ground, blood soaking the ground around him. He clutched his stomach as he tried to stop the terrible wound that was bleeding. Just moments before, he had been ambushed by three human males. The elf had been out on a hunting trip and had dared to draw near the human's territory. He had thought things were going fine until the men had jumped him. Now, they left him bruised and bleeding with no possessions left. He needed to get away. The thought circled in his mind as he laid there on the crowd. Any moment, his attackers could return to make sure he was dead. If he didn't leave now while he had the strength, the elf knew he would die here. So, grinding his teeth together, he tried to pull himself to his feet.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Winter took several steps away from the man as he clapped his shoulder. "Don't touch me!" he snarled. He didn't like people touching him, especially strangers. Already, he was completely done with this family, and he had only been here for five minutes. But at least him and the woman wanted to leave him alone.
Tim nodded and was about to reply to Wendy when he heard Jace's remark to Duke. "Jace," he said in a warning tone, but wasn't able to say more as Wendy ushered everyone out of the room. He couldn't argue, so he just followed the couple back downstairs.
Once everyone was gone, Winter sat down on his bed with a frustrated sigh. But his moment of alone time didn't last long. At the voice of the girl, he looked up with narrowed eyes. "I've been ready to leave since three days ago," he informed her bitterly.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Loran did wake up, but not until three hours later. Both the fever and the blood loss contributed to the long sleep. Luckily, elves healed a bit faster than humans. Opening his eyes, the elf stared at the ceiling for a moment as his thoughts filtered through his mind. Slowly, his memories returned, as did the pain. With a groan, Loran blinked several times and turned his head. He had no idea where he was. The last thing he remembered was that he was in the forest. Now he was inside some kind of building. Was he somehow back home? "B-Baldor..." he muttered his brother's name, the oldest and the one who would take him in if he had found him.

(thinking about making Alice adopted)
Duke and Wendy figured they would let Winter take his time and go at his own pace. Nobody was pressuring him here, well, aside from Alice. She found it fun to annoy people and twist their arm. "Well, maybe you'll get out on good behavior. Yes, I'm making this place sound like a prison for a reason because at night, it is. I've tried everything to get out of here to no avail." she sighed in her own annoyance. "But the dumb-bells are leaving tomorrow for a couple days, so there's a perk." she said boredly, completely ignoring his bitterness all together. "You got a name, bitter-boy?"

Alice scoffed and rolled her eyes, "Please mister big shot, chill. This place is simple, don't get caught doing what you're not supposed to, I'll help you out with that, and don't break anything. There's a punching bag in the basement if you feel like you need to let off some steam." Alice was just trying to help Winter out a little, even if he was in a mood and didn't want her two. "I'm Alice and I'm betting on four or five days before you really start to lose your mind. I lost mine in three."

Alice rolled her eyes again, "Whatever, good luck escaping. Dinner is at six, Winter." she said boredly, still ignoring his tone. Maybe he just needed a nap. "And if you need help with your plan, just ask me, I'll be able to help most likely." She was lying, she didn't want to leave. Wendy always got her whatever she wanted and Duke left her alone after she slapped him on 'accident'. Life was surprisingly good for being adopted. "Neat name, by the way."

For once, Tawna acquiesced before Meira, who usually came to fall in with her father's line of thinking much faster. "Be safe," she told him, setting her boots aside again. "If you aren't back in an hour, we'll speak with the baron and come after you." Before Mei could argue it, she was swept inside by her mother, and forced to stay put as her father went off to assume his role as damage control.
"I can't believe you're going to stay," she muttered, flopping into the nearest high-backed chair, which creaked with the impact.
Tawna offered a wry smile. "Only for an hour. And since when is your sister ever done with trouble in an hour?"

"And don't slam any doors jerkface!!" Alice practically screamed from down the hall, though she knew more than enough that he heard her and her big mouth. There was no way he would be escaping. If anything, Alice would like to see him try, maybe she'd even tag along for the fun of it! Who knows, the choices are endless. Granted she didn't even know why he was here in the first place. Maybe it would be a good idea to find out, but not from Duke or Wendy. She'd beat it out of Winter at some point.

She liked to keep things stocked so if she injured herself she had everything on hand and wouldn't need to wait for someone or struggle herself. The red haired woman hummed softly and she picked through the flowers, looking for what she needed. On the ground beside her was a basket that was pretty full of green stems and bunches of berries. She was almost done for the day. Of course she had not gone too far into the forest, after all humans and elves were not on the best of terms most because humans weren't being really nice to the elven people. But there wasn't anything Lyra could do about that. It was out of her hands for the most part. She was just a dancer who liked dabbling in medicine here and there.

Niklis knew what Thayer had gotten into, for one. Though he'd scurried off in an effort to find a place to lay low, the excitement had already traveled by word of mouth, and the unfriendly faces of the law were everywhere. Barred from the main streets on the off chance he would be recognized, Niklis crept through the alleyways and kept his demeanor entirely unassuming, praying no one would notice as he made his way to the abandoned bell tower at the edge of town. It was a rotting old structure, and really rather pathetic, but no one went in it except himself and some of the other orphans on the streets. They had an alliance, too, so he had little to fear besides rotting stairs.
Until he looked out the gaps in the boarded second floor window and saw the golden horse and its rider being unsaddled by a familiar face.
What Pax Chastmere was doing, dumping an arrow-ridden body in an alley and spurring the horse onward without direction, Niklis couldn't say. But he could say that it reeked of trouble, something he had a fine nose for if he said so himself. Quickly, he peeled away from the window and pressed his back to the wall, mind whirling.

Winter heard her loud and clear, but it didn't mean anything. If he was going to slam doors, he would. Anything to push the limits of the family he was staying with. The more he irritated them, the better the chance he would have to getting sent back.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Loran heard footsteps coming closer, making his body tense. What if it was his attackers coming back to make sure he was dead? Now he wished he still had his weapons. The humans who jumped him had made sure that his bow and hunting knife were the first items to be removed from his person. Being defenseless was not a comforting idea. With the unknown person coming ever closer, the elf knew he couldn't stay there. So, with ever last once of strength in his body, he desperately tried to drag himself away from where he laid. The action was enough to make him cry out in pain.

Thayer had told herself she was going to stay put until her father found her, but after about five minutes, she knew she couldn't do that. Her curiosity burned within her, making her restless. She had to know where the Rider had went, and whether or not he was still alive. So, with no patience whatsoever, the elf set off in the direction the horse had run. She hoped it would be easy to track, what with the townsfolk still buzzing from the events. Someone would have had to seen where the horse and rider went. If not, she could cast a tracking spell and hope for the best.

The thing was, this family didn't have any limits. Sure, Duke was a hard *ss, and Wendy was borderline crazy, but they were pretty chill. Alice returned to Winter's room a couple minutes later, having remembered something that he would be much better off knowing than finding out himself. "Hey, Winter? Thought I'd give you a heads up. It's be in your best interest not to go into the living room between 11 pm and 1 am. Duke and Wendy get it on in there and it's scarring, trust me."

{Finally rewrote it xc }
During the three hours he was asleep, Lumi had changed the towel on his forehead multiple times, until finally she passed out on her chair, body limp with exhaustion, as it was quite late and she had stayed up to take care of the elf. The only sign that she was still alive was the fact that, slowly but surely, her chest rose and fall, and this all but lasted for a couple moments until there was 3 knocks on the door, and the blonde human shot awake. She rubbed her eyes tiredly and let out a small groan, setting her eyes on the elf tiredly, until she realized he was awake and her eyes widened, pushing all the sleep in her body away. The knock on the door sounded out again, and she immediately stood up, "Please be quiet, I'll be back in a moment." She than walked to the front door, and opened it just a crack. Standing outside was a cloaked figure, blue husky like eyes staring out from the darkness. She passed over a small little vial, to which Lumi took thankfully, "Thanks for coming so late." "Of course, what are friends for... What's going on? Are you feeling okay?" she tried to get a look into the cabin, but Lumi blocked her view with a smile. "I'm fine, just give me a second." She closed the door, grabbed a small bag with coins in it that she split out for the cost of the medicine, than opened the door back up, passing it out. "Lumi, what's going on." The cloaked figure demanded, but Lumi just looked at her with begging eyes. "At the moment, Alaska, I can't tell you. Just... Promise you won't speak about this to anyone. I'll call for you soon, okay?" she than shut the door without waiting for a reply, lighting up a lantern in the room while she closed the curtains on the few windows she had, the only light being the lantern and the fireplace. Lumi had boiled some water earlier, so she poured it into a mug, putting the vial of medicine in, and then bringing it over to the chair, taking a seat, "You're going to have to sit up to drink this... It's just to keep the fever at bay." she said softly, removing the cloth from his forehead and feeling it with her slightly hot hand, then setting the mug aside on a table while she went to wet the rag again, "What's your name?" she asked as she walked back over, placing the rag back on his forehead.

[there's a lot of wiggle room! and ehehehehe i didn't like him either. decided it would be fun to go this route.]
Fighting down the urge to quake in his boots until nightfall, Niklis mustered the courage to peek through the slats again. Now, the horse was gone, the contents of its saddle bags strewn down the alley. Niklis swallowed hard past the lump in his throat, seeing all the fine gold lying in the dust. The rider had been carrying precious cargo, and that cargo could feed orphans for years. Yet Pax made no move to pick it up, instead kneeling close to the dead man and cradling him in his arms, looking close. Pax said nothing, but he keep looking up as if expecting someone.
That was fair. The alleys weren't usually empty, so soon enough, people would trickle back, the excitement wearing off. Chances were that the baron's son was simply poised to look like the innocent bystander coming to a man's aid too late.
Niklis didn't have the courage to confront him, not after seeing the casual deftness of Pax's movements with a rapier on his hip. If he could walk and crouch without the weapon bouncing in his way, he probably knew how to fight with it. Niklis, on the other hand, had zero training with a sword, and had only ever settled physical confrontation with his fists, a vastly inferior weapon to blades. He remained in the abandoned steeple, watching quietly.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* As Eric clasped Tim's hand, Andy threw an arm around Charlotte's shoulders, clasping her daughter's other arm in her free hand. "You remember Charlotte," the girl offered a wave and sweet smile, "I think you two missed each other last time you came by, Tim." Eric chuckled at this, shaking his head. "Char was probably off satisfying her adrenaline need doing god knows what." At this the family laughed. Charlotte was notorious for exploring every nook and cranny of the ranches land (including the land around the ranch...something she prefers to not use the word "trespassing" for). She's had her share of broken bones and scrapes as a result. Charlotte threw her arms up, as if swatting the conversation away with a laugh. "Oh, enough small talk about my bad decisions. Jace is going to roast in that car if wait too much longer." Tim smiled as Andy introduced her daughter. "Yes, I remember Charlotte," he said. "I've seen her when she was younger, but I don't think I got a chance to see her during my last visit here. You look more and more like your mother every year," he added to the girl. At the mention of Jace, the social worker seemed to sober up a bit. "Yes, I should probably go get him. But first, is there anything you all would like to know about him, or do you want to wait until he's settled in before asking questions?" "Andy and I both have read his file, we are aware of most baggage coming with Jace. I am sure it would help him get more comfortable with us as well if we all sat down together, rather than discussing without him." Eric hooked a thumb through the waistband of his jeans, pulling off the old west cowboy look. Her parents, once receiving his file, had closed Charlotte away from the office and spoke of the newcomer in hushed, authoritative voices. Charlotte knew bits and pieces about the boy herself, through her parents merely filling her in, but since she was not eighteen, she was not technically allowed to learn the specifics of the different people that came to the ranch. Not that it was a problem to Charlotte, she had always figured that if someone wanted to share their story, it should be heard from their own mouths rather than a dry piece of paper.
