Haha I only wrote 396 words today, oops
Good luck, Dragons Vein! I can't even manage one writing project most of the time so good luck! I was supposed to get to 16k by today but I'm only at ~13.7k ish

If my potential goal was 50k and I didn't start writing until around November 20th, what do you think my chances would be of finishing on time? XD Better yet, what if my goal was 70k? I'd have max 10 days to write, which would mean I'd have to write about 5,000 words a day for 50k. If I did 70k, I'd have to write a bit more. Now, suppose I only had a week instead of 10 days to write, which would be around 5-7 days... Yikes.

I think you could pull it off if you really threw yourself into it and had lots of free time! It depends on how easy it is for you to write large blocks of text in one sitting. And I'd suggest breaking up how much you write in one go- if your goal is 7k words a day, try to write it in two sets of 3.5k or three sets of 2.3k or something like that so it's less intimidating and you can take breaks instead of writing for like 7 hours straight xD
Also, guys, some general advice I recently heard that I thought was very helpful: To make it easier to pick up your writing again after taking a break, when you finish writing a segment, don't end at a natural break point- don't stop writing at the end of a chapter or POV section, because then when you start writing again you have to think up an entirely new situation/character view to write next, while if you break off midway through the action, you already have a starting point to return to when you get back to writing.

Eww, I was really sick today so I only got like 400 words out. I know I can make it up tomorrow night since I'm staying up to keep track on the election but I still feel awful because I'm already behind and I'd like to write at least 2k a day to make sure I catch up :/

Thanks! I can write in big blocks, which is why it doesn't seem that horrible, but at the same time, it really depends on the day. Because sometimes I can whip out a lot, but ️other days I might just stare at the screen for hours xD But breaking it up makes it seem so much better xD If I end up having the time (I hope I will, but I already know I'll be doing other stuff as well xD) I'll definitely do that! Good advice! I feel like I tend to do that a lot anyways because my chapters tend to be long xD

Honestly, I feel like as long as you feel satisfied with your chapter and got all that you wanted into that chapter, it shouldn't matter how long it is (: Mine end up being pretty long, but that's just how I roll xD I'm sure yours is great so far! (:

My writing has been awful for the past few days. I'm extremely unmotivated today (although I made a new icon based off of a character? I guess?) but I do have Friday and the weekend off so I should be able to boost my word count a bit. Still not falling behind yet, luckily.
Does anyone else have Friday off? It's Remembrance Day in Canada (don't know what any other countries are doing, though) and I was considering organizing another word sprint but I feel like it would be better to do it on either Saturday again or Sunday. I don't think anyone else has it off.

that moment when you're like 10k behind the goal
it's so hard to start ;~; especially when you need to leave soon so you rationalize that you don't have much time to get anything done anyway xD

Just popping in to say that I have a life-saving tip: You don't have to write in order. It helps me to write one of the climax chapters so I live up to it in the rest of the writing.
It also helps to write a particularly advanced chapter of your favorite book or another work, then ease into your own story. It kind of ruins the mood to remove it just as you've started to write, so leave it there and remove it when finished.

I think I'll try to reach 20k tomorrow. I've been unable to write for the past few days because I've been distracted and now I'm sick, so I haven't even written a thousand words a day for the past three days. Homework still comes first, unfortunately, and I need to sort that out. With any luck I'll be finished the first part of my story over the weekend and I can start on the second part, which has a lot more action and zombie pirates.

I've been doing awful this week, oops. I've not been on top and all the stress and anxiety is getting the better of me, but I'm sitting down to do a word crawl today, so I should get a couple of thousand words out, but we'll see. I'm just reminding myself that 7k is better than 0k, and that way I don't feel half as bad.

I managed to hit my goal today, which is good! I'll probably be able to finish the first part of my story tomorrow. The last chapter of part 1 consists of two really long and emotional conversations. Why exactly did I pick a story about emotional conversations when I have no emotions and rarely contribute to conversations? That aside, I'm kind of doing a one-sided challenge with my real life friend to see who can get to 50k first. We're both really close in word counts right now. I was ahead, but I fell behind after these last few days.
I honestly can't wait until this awful first draft is done and February comes so I can edit it and take out all of the awful and rewrite it until it's acceptable. It looks kind of awful at the moment. But it has potential! So much potential! I just need to refine it so I can get all the nice stuff in instead of "here's the plot presented in an extremely straightforward way" kind of thing.
Also, does anyone want to do a word sprint probably tomorrow or on Sunday? What time would work best for everyone? I'll probably put up the word sprint on the wcf thread on the nano site too so we can get the most people in.

Awesome about getting your goal! Must feel great being almost halfway there! (: I'm counting down the days til I might be able to write again, and it's making me excited xD Only problem is that I might be getting excited over nothing because I might not have time to write like I think I do. But I'll let y'all know (: Most I'm writing today is an essay xD

Haha oops I forgot to organize a word sprint (if anyone wants to organize one, please do so and let me know, I am bad at organizing things!)
It doesn't matter though; I'm officially at the halfway mark of my story! It went on longer than I thought it would (my estimate was 20k for the first part, because the second part is longer, but I'm at 24k so I might go over the month) and I'm pretty satisfied with the ending of the first part. Next part is more action and less weird emotions, which is good. I just had to yell excitedly about it.

I tried to update my word count today but I messed up and accidentally put in that I had a total of 29,410,177 words. Um.
I fixed it, luckily, but I find it a little odd that the NaNoWriMo software just accepted that I wrote 29 million words in a day and asked no further questions.
