liesel wailes //
A crisp ocean breeze made the ship's beams creak and groan as the deck swayed under Liesel's feet, causing her to accidentally lean into the man and bump her head on his arm. Considering that her hands were still bound, it wasn't like she could stop herself. She made sure to jerk away almost immediately, straightening up her posture and pressing her lips together in an agitated sort of way. Eyes averted and jaw tightened, she spoke through clenched teeth. "It would be dumb to stay here with you, a pirate." She spat out the word as if it was too sour to be contained inside her mouth. Her eyebrows furrowed as she took a step away.
"Nice? Nice?" The pitch of Liesel's voice had raised, "You hypocrite! You stole me away from my family, you are holding me here against my own will, and you want me to be nice? You want me to be cheery and fine?" She scoffed, backing away even farther. Edging closer towards the side of the deck until her lower-back touched the wood. She turned her head to look over the side at the choppy surface, which was splashing rhythmically against the ship's sides. She wouldn't jump, but she couldn't help but wonder how he'd react if she did. He seemed so emotionless, so calm and sure of himself that Liesel had an inward desire to see him falter, to see something not go as planned.
"You ask me who I am? Who even are you?" She questioned everything at once, her breath coming as rasps as she shivered from the cold. Turning to the side and thrusting her bound wrists forward the best she could. "You dare to keep me here like this - like a prisoner or some kind of prize that you found along with your meaningless loot - you're disgusting."
Liesel turned her face away and swallowed, letting herself sink to the deck's floor, the cold planks pressing against her legs as she let her head rest in her hands. She felt hot tears swimming in her eyes but she couldn't cry, she could only sit hunched there still and silent. She didn't want to hate anyone, but it was hard to deny the burning deep inside her chest, a smoldering fire that had been started years ago. She longed to be alone, but already felt so lonely.

Sebastian Serafin Sebastian rolled his green eyes in annoyance as Liesel spoke once more, and his jaw tightened as he recognized the utter bitterness in her tone. He understood how she was feeling. After all, he had been traded to pirates against his will at the age of five. But then again, he had been with Tobias. He'd had someone. As for Liesel, well, she was alone. He couldn't deny the pity he felt. Even the guilt.
He stood there still as a statue as she continued to speak, only adjusting the wheel when necessary. Otherwise, he said nothing, and he did nothing. Once she finished speaking, the only sounds he could distinguish were the cheery chatter of the crew below, and the crashing of the choppy sea against the hull of the ship. The wind began to pick up, and it whistled through the air. It was certainly more than a breeze, but less than an incoming storm. The ship needed wind to sail, so Sebastian was grateful. If he could only channel the wind into the sails, that would be enough to get him where he needed to be.
As she continued once more, Sebastian inhaled deeply, exhaling through his teeth. Sooner or later, he would have to tell her something about him, right? It wasn't fair to hold her against her will when she knew nothing about her captor.
"My name is Sebastian Serafin," he replied blankly, turning his head and meeting her blue gaze.
The soft wind ruffled his thick, golden hair, and without another word, he returned his attention to the sea before his vessel. His weight shifted uncomfortably from his right side to his left, and for a moment, he left the wheel and walked over to her. Kneeling down, he took her hands in his own, though he was half-expecting her to yank them away. And honestly, he wouldn't blame her if she did. He didn't believe himself to be disgusting, but he could certainly see how she could see him that way.
"If I untie your wrists, you need to promise me that you won't do anything stupid," he stated, his voice almost as low as a whisper. He wanted to ensure that only she could hear him. "I promise that I will protect you from harm while you're here. Don't you think if I had wanted to really hurt you, I would have done it already?"

liesel wailes //
Liesel's head raised her head at the sound of the name, it sounded strangely familiar. For the first time she really looked at Sebastian; at his strong build and thick blonde hair, she might have considered him attractive under different circumstances. But he didn't look familiar, it was simply his name that struck a bell. More specifically his last name, she could have sworn it had been spoken in her presence before.
"I know that name..." She murmured under her breath, eyes narrowing somewhat as she tried to think. How could she possibly know him? He wasn't the type of person she would be introduced to. It was a very odd feeling, and she couldn't quite figure out why. It seemed more likely that she was just exhausted and paranoid.
Liesel was aware of Sebastian kneeling next to her, but she couldn't stop herself from flinching when he took hold of her hands. Maybe she wasn't use to the feeling, or maybe she just wasn't use to him. Whatever the reason, her body stiffened from the touch of his skin that was surprisingly warm, it made her fiery rage come to a pause from the shock. She was momentarily frozen, face to face with her captor, her eyes fixed on his. But this didn't last long, because when Sebastian spoke she immediately recoiled. Pulling her hands away, she crossed her arms and forced herself to look anywhere but at him.
"I don't need your protecting." Her voice was low and cold as she spoke, once again building up an invisible barrier around herself. "You're crazy if you believe i'm going to trust you."
Liesel didn't move, but she refused to look in Sebastian's direction, opting instead to let her eyes settle on the ship's billowing sails. Stars glittered in the clear night sky, thousands of twinkling lights that glowed unwavering up above her, and once again she felt incredibly small. Now, Liesel wasn't one to be easily frightened, but something about floating out to sea in the middle of nowhere made her feel horribly secluded, as if someone had marooned her on a deserted island.

( okay this is rly bad bc it's almost 2 in the morning and i am v tired so this is short & choppy ahhh but you are welcome to make the time skip if you want to!! c: ) Sebastian Serafin Sebastian barely registered Liesel's soft murmur, as it was almost inaudible. However, he did catch the phrase she muttered. Just barely. It didn't surprise him that she found his name familiar. After all, he had reacted the same way to hearing her name. And how could he not? If he recalled correctly, their parents had been friends, and they had lived on the same road for the first three years of Sebastian's life. Honestly, he was a bit curious about how Tobias would react to hearing Liesel's name. He had been older when they had lived on the cliffside overlooking the ocean, after all. He would likely react differently. More deeply. More profoundly.
He would wait to tell her this information, however.
"Yes," he countered, "actually, you do."
She did need to trust him if she didn't want to get hurt. He didn't want her to get hurt, and certainly, he would not be the one to hurt her. But being on a pirate ship, a ship filled with only men, was not exactly safe for a young, attractive woman such as Liesel. He would be the one to protect her. And that was decided without consulting her. He was the only one who cared enough about her to protect her. Would he be admitting to her that he cared at all? No. Absolutely not. But he did. And maybe that was because of the history the two of them had. He didn't know the exact reasons.
"Liesel, you need to trust me if you want to survive."
Glancing down at her wrists, Sebastian heaved a sigh before reaching forward and undoing the knots that held the bonding together. Maybe if she knew that he wasn't trying to hold her captive, it would cause her to place even a tiny sliver of trust in him. Honestly, he doubted that it would work to change her mind, to alter her opinions of him that had already formed. But it was worth a shot.
She needed to trust him if she wanted even a chance at living.
The sound of the waves colliding with the hull of the ship echoed below them, and when Sebastian finally stood once more, he cast a sullen, green gaze upon his hostage. Sooner or later, she would learn the truth. He was not the one she needed to fear.

liesel wailes //
Liesel woke with a very sudden start, her breath catching sharply in her throat as she jerked upright. Her heart was thumping so loudly she was sure that the whole crew could hear. The strange thing was, the only sound that met her ears was an eery silence. Which, for some reason, was exactly what she didn't want to hear. After waking up from dreams riddled with nightmares it most certainly should have been soothing, should have felt in someway peaceful - but it didn't. There was a horrible feeling in that calm, it squeezed her lungs and sent goosebumps scaling up her arms. It was as if her body was bracing itself, but what for?
Figuring that it was nothing, Liesel turned over and once again closed her eyes. But, just as she was starting to relax, just as her breathing had started to slow, there was a sound. It wasn't just a creak, and it most certainly wasn't the wind. It was the sound of boots, the very obvious sound of steps. Heel, toe, heel, toe. And then there were more, the very soft sound of shoes squeaking on the deck. Was it the crew? She was about the believe it so and go back to sleep, but she heard something else. Something familiar, something she heard before; the sound of a sword being drawn from it's sheath.
In an instant Liesel was throwing off her covers and cautiously creeping toward the door, which was the only thing keeping whoever was out there from coming inside the cabin. She couldn't stand to wait it out, nor did she want to wake anyone else up (not because she was cared, but because she didn't want to seem like a scared little girl who was frightened by a bump in the night.)
Inhaling deeply, Liesel slowly pushed open the door just a crack. Luckily it didn't make a sound, but unfortunately that sliver of space was not enough to see out of. She cringed, knowing that by pushing it out farther they could possibly see her. Maybe it was bravery, or her curiosity, or just plain stupidity; but quick as a flash, Liesel slipped through the doorway onto the open quarterdeck. It was still somewhat dark out, the sun just starting to become visible on the horizon. Streaks of vivid orange and pale pink just becoming visible above the shining water.
In the fading darkness, still hidden by shadows, she could make out several figures moving across the main deck, and when she turned her head she saw a horrific sight. Pulled along side their ship was another, this one larger and darker. It looked old and rugged, it's sails tattered and it's wood splintering. There were ropes, tons of them, thrown over from the intruding ship so that they could board. And they were. Climbing over the sides and creeping along the deck stealthily, only the quiet sound of heavy boots and whispers. It became very clear that they were being invaded, and quite frankly, Liesel hadn't the slightest idea what to do. The crew seemed to still be asleep, all of them, which could possibly be blamed on the amount of drinking that went on the previous night. It was ridiculous really, how they weren't even prepared. Where was the person keeping watch? Part of her felt that they deserved whatever happened to them, but she was aware of the fact that then it would affected her too. Torn, and not sure how to stay unnoticed, Liesel ducked down behind some crates and stayed still. They would probably just take what they wanted and leave, at least that's what she hoped.
She soon found out that her assumption was wrong.
A hand clamped over her mouth, jerking her backwards sharply from her hiding place. Terrified, Liesel squirmed out of grasp and screamed, hoping that it would wake someone up. The pirate cursed in response, knowing that their cover was now gone. It seemed that in a matter of seconds everything was happening at once, chaos had broken loose in every direction, the clatter of weapons and shouts were now filling her ears, and someone had struck her across the face. The blow had come quicker than she could react, sending her reeling into the cargo that she had been hiding behind. Her bottom lip was dull with numbness and the taste of blood was on her tongue, but all she could think of was that the pirate was advancing. What was she suppose to do? Fight him fist to fist? Resulting to the first thing that came to mind, Liesel reacted by sending a kick to his shin before swiftly dodging to the left. He was bigger than her by a lot, muscle and height, but she was small and quick. He winced from the blow, making her feel somewhat pleased with herself. And she couldn't help but think it was a shame that Sebastian hadn't seen her.
The confidence did not last long though, for it is a well known fact that pirates don't always fight fair. Her attacker smiled, drawing his sword and exposing his missing front teeth. Liesel's eyes widened as she tried to back up father, only to find that she couldn't. She had two choices; jump overboard into the freezing water, or get gored by a crazed man who looked like he'd been waiting for this moment all his life. Excellent.

Sebastian Serafin A gentle wind whisked through the air as the new day began to break. The sea, itself, seemed relatively calm, especially when compared to the night before. It was smooth as glass, really. Cerulean-colored glass. No longer did the ship groan and lurch as it overtook each wave. Rather, it glided across the ocean in an almost graceful fashion. Everything appeared to be rather peaceful, and this gave the crew an opportunity to recover from the previous night’s celebration.
At least, that was how it appeared.
The morning, itself, had seemed quite uneventful. From Sebastian’s perspective, anyway. At the crack of dawn, just as the glowing, pink sun was beginning to rise above the foam of the ocean and join the billowing clouds that spotted the morning sky, he woke. There was no real reason for him to leave his cot, however. Really, his only task was to make sure that Liesel still slept soundly, and that she had not moved from the bed.
Cracking open his green eyes, the man scanned the room, and when he spotted the girl’s distinct, blonde curls, he knew that he would be free to return to his comforting slumber. In what seemed to be only the blink of an eye, the pirate was asleep once more. Well. Until the chaos began.
The sounds of metal clanging against metal and shouts hollering from the decks awoke Sebastian once more. However, unlike his last awakening, once he registered what he was hearing, he sprung out of bed. Assuming he would need some sort of gear, he raced to the armoire that stood against the far wall. He would definitely need his sword, more than anything else. Maybe some protective clothing would do better to shield him than his pajamas, so with that in mind, he changed his attire. Hastily, he attached his scabbard to his pants.
Only then did he realize that Liesel was missing from her bed.
And that was only because his attention was drawn to the other side of the room, for that seemed to be the general direction from which the commotion arose. Groaning inwardly and raking a hand through his thick hair, the man raced across the room and heaved open the wooden door to his chamber. Because he pulled it open so quickly, the wood creaked against the hinges. But really, the sounds of men fighting kept anything else from being heard.
And that was when he heard a muffled scream.
It was distinctly feminine, and in that moment, he truly knew that Liesel was in some real trouble. His mind raced as he tried to decipher figure from figure, as the day’s light was not quite at its full potential. It would likely take another moment or two for Sebastian’s eyes to adjust to the ruckus before him, but he needed to be ready sooner rather than later.
Especially when he realized that what he was seeing was a pirate wrestling with his hostage.
Immediately, he withdrew his sword from his scabbard and advanced toward his opponent. Without an ounce of hesitation, he shoved Liesel to the side, shielding her against one wall of Tobias’ quarters.
“Stay there,” he hissed, flashing her a warning glare.
“Oh, how sweet,” the burly pirate standing before him cooed sarcastically, “saving the damsel in distress. Classic. Pathetic.”
As soon as the words escaped his lips, Sebastian lunged toward the other man, striking swiftly at his chest, though his opponent managed to deflect the potentially-fatal blow. The other man swiftly came right back at him, aiming a blow toward the lower left portion of Sebastian’s ribcage. Quickly, the blond pirate darted off to the side, then made his way around the larger man. He struck at his back, and before the other pirate could react, the blade sunk into his spine. The burly man howled in pain, then collapsed, shriveling into a ball on the floor of the deck. Without a second more, he yanked the sword from the man’s back. Though it was covered in blood, it really did not matter. He needed to get Liesel to safety. Now.
He rushed over to the young woman, pulling her to her feet.
“I need to get you back to Tobias’ chambers. It’s more secure and protected than mine.” His tone screamed urgency, though his voice, itself, was a bit hushed. He paused briefly, pursing his lips for a moment. “You need to stay right behind me, okay? And don’t you even think about letting go of my hand. I don’t care about how you feel about me right now. If you want to live, you’ll listen.”

liesel wailes //
It's strange how when you're in the heat of a moment, everything is so much slower than it usually would be. It seems as if you can see everything at once, or maybe just some things more clearly.
Like when Sebastian removed his sword from his enemies' back, it made an indescribable sound, and the blood came bubbling forth onto the deck. It turned the ground crimson. Liesel could only think of that, and she shouldn't have felt any kind of remorse, for the blood spilled was not her's. But the way the pirate crumpled; it did not make her feel satisfied. Even thought he would have killed her if he had a chance, and who knows the amount of others he had slaughtered. It didn't take an overly sensitive human being to feel the effects of death, to see someone dying and to see their pain. She didn't have time to process any of this fully, but it was enough to time see it. And not forget it.
Sebastian was pulling Liesel to her feet and she was aware of her legs moving, but it didn't feel like she had any control over them whatsoever. She was also aware of his hand tightly clutching her's, which was bewildering. Once more she asked herself why he cared, why wasn't he helping the rest of the crew? Why was he helping her? So many unanswered questions.
Sebastian was speaking but Liesel was only half listening, it was hard to distract herself from the clamor all around that roared like thunder. She didn't want to go to Tobias's cabin. She didn't want to be locked in a room alone waiting for her fate to be decided, alone and helpless like some damsel.
A protest was just forming on her tongue when she detected movement from her left side. Her blue eyes flickered away in that direction, only to see the glint of a blade reflecting the rising sun. "Sebastian-" The warning died on her lips as the the weapon progressed down, once again everything seemed to slowed down, when in reality it was taking place as quick as a lightening flash. Somehow Liesel managed to thrust her shoulder into Sebastian, throwing herself between the blow and him. The attacker hadn't spaced himself enough, he was close enough that the girl could reach up and somewhat catch hold of the sword's hilt as it came down upon her. It definitely cushioned the weapon's fall enough that she was able to twist out of the way almost completely. Almost. The hilt came down against her collarbone, the blade slipping against the skin on her shoulder. There was no time to cry out, the pirate was surprised, giving Liesel the perfect opportunity to advance.
It was odd how her body knew how to fight back, how quickly her instincts kicked in. She somehow managed to keep her grip on the hilt, and even more surprisingly managed to ripped it from the man's grip. It was probably just sheer luck, the man's grip on his weapon had obviously slipped, giving Liesel the perfect opportunity to trust the handle against his jaw. The blow was a sharp one, and she chose not to look back to see the his reaction.
Awkwardly fumbling with the weapon that was a little too heavy for her, she tried not to wince from the pain that was radiating from the thin gash on her shoulder and the rapidly darkening bruise on her collarbone. Instead she shot Sebastian a look that could have been smug but looked more terrified than anything else, "I told you I could take care of myself." It wasn't so much about proving a point to him, than it was proving a point to herself.
