Is Sorrelshine Whitetail’s mom? Doesn’t that make Breezepelt and Heathertail second cousins on top of being aunt and nephew?

RIP Galekit. Man, WindClan has terrible luck with kits. And finally an end to the Harestar theory! Too bad we don't have any parents for him still.
Okay I have to ask. What was the point of making Onestar and Whitetail so much older if the bulk of the story was going to happen after OS anyways? Brushpaw and Tansypaw could have joined the Clan at any point. They didn't need to start three years before the main timeline. In fact, having them join after FAI would make more sense. The massive timeskip was completely pointless.
Oh, and thank you Spinestar! Your summaries are excellent per usual.

Is Sorrelshine Whitetail’s mom? Doesn’t that make Breezepelt and Heathertail second cousins on top of being aunt and nephew? depends on who else is related to who. breeze x heather have always been related bc of ashfoot and onestar being siblings (even tho ashfoot is breeze's grandma, but is heather's aunt)

Aw man. I always enjoyed the Kestrelflight, Heathertail and Harespring are littermates headcanon.
But, am i the only one who isin't a fan of Super Editions creating so many extra characters for a story? Like Brushpaw and Tansypaw. It has kickstarted his love for kittypets but i feel like they could have gone many different ways.
This also happened in Leopardstar's Honor.

RIP Galekit.:c I guess the headcanon of Kestrel, Hare and Heather being littermates has officially been debunked. I had a feeling we weren't going to get parents for Hare and Kestrel based on how the book was going, but I still didn't expect Kestrelpaw to be that much older.
It was nice to see Brushpaw again and I'm glad he made it to StC.

When Onestar was reflecting on his life in the prologue the times just so happen to be the Darktail battle, the Dark Forest battle, the journey to the lake and becoming leader and finally him as a apprentice. I would not be surprised if these are the stories we will get in this book.

What a waste of trees The only part that I've liked so far, and I didn't even like it for what it is, is that Sorrelshine is Whitetail's mother, because when I suggested it, people thought I was dumb, but I was right all along, I know how these books work, they don't focus on past books, or what makes sense, but by the fandom for the most part. I'm annoyed that they used a unique prefix only to kill the cat off as a kit, I bet we're going to have another Graysomething live to warriorhood though.

Chapter 14 was long, Oh my StarClan, 28 pages?!
Chapter 15 has Onestar break it off with Firestar for good. He did have an interesting leadership ceremony before that though.
Chapter 16 officially debunks Heathertail and Harestar as littermates. I loved that theory and am sad. They coud have easily replaced Galekit with Harekit instead. Gale is a cool and new prefix though. Something to do with storms, right?

Gale is a cool and new prefix though. Something to do with storms, right? Not really. Harestar is actually older than Heathertail. And we know this because, in a play, he's shown to be at least the same age as Berrynose and even became a warrior in the same book he did, while Heatherpaw had been an apprentice for only a moon and a half by the time she meets Lionpaw. Even if it's not that big of an age difference, Heathertail being Harestar's brother would've never made any sense unless Heathertail's training had been delayed (Kestrelflight possibly being her brother I understood since medicine cats earn their names differently and sometimes even more slowly compared to warriors). This series is already filled with inconsistencies, it doesn't need another, even if it would've been a minor one.
As for gale, it can mean a strong wind or an outburst of emotion, such as laughter. The former is likely what they were going for, but either way, I love the idea of Galekit being a parallel to Breezepelt had he lived.

I hope Heathertail hates her dad. I want Onestar to be punished for how he's acting towards Whitetail. I also want the Erins to realize why there's something wrong with their relationship other than Onestar being scummy but I don't think they're ever going to learn at this point.
Also RIP to all of the Onestar enjoyers- It's honestly really sad because this could have been good and interesting but instead the book is falling flat on its face

I also want the Erins to realize why there's something wrong with their relationship other than Onestar being scummy but I don't think they're ever going to learn at this point. If you mean the age difference and the fact that he had been her mentor, unfortunately for you, warriors getting together with cats much younger than them—including their former apprentices—has been a thing for a very long time now and I doubt that's going to change any time soon. It's just something that's normalized for them, and anthropomorphized or not (they kinda have to be for the plots to work), this is just one of those reminders that their society isn't ours. And at least in this case, it seems to be more akin to SharpxCherry than DustxFern (again, he wasn't her mentor, but you get what I mean), in which he apparently started to like her only long after she had become a warrior.

Am I the only one not surprised by and even enjoying how Onestar is being written and the actions and decisions he’s making? We knew he was an absolute coward, we knew he caves to his guilt and fears, we know he Smoke and Darktail dirty. If anything, I’m glad to see a POV of a cat that is anything but a hero no matter how much he thinks he can try to be. I don’t like Onestar because of his actions or choices, because who would? But I do like the character for being completely consistent in the series and for showing that cowardly mindset in a position of leadership. I hope he gets his karma, and I hope he goes through hell for his choices, it’ll be all the more enjoyable to read.
Characters like Onestar are the kinds of morally grey characters that just really fascinate me in how far they can fall and keep falling farther. I gotta get my own copy asap.

And sure thing! I'm hoping it gets used at all for a warrior or medicine cat at some point.

Onestar is being frustrating and I love it! If nothing else, he's certainly entertaining to read about, that's for sure. The fact that we're basically just speedrunning through his life and getting these huge timeskips in the process is also somehow hilarious to me. Considering we also open with him in StarClan and will hopefully return to that point at the end, this also kinda makes sense if we think of the entire book as essentially being one big flashback while he awaits his fate. Unless it's an exclusive edition, I usually get the books electronically now, but this may actually be the first book I'll be getting physically in awhile because I'm enjoying the spoilers so much. It helps the the inside cover is super pretty, too!

And sure thing! I'm hoping it gets used at all for a warrior or medicine cat at some point. Then I would have preferred for Harestar to be Heathertail's littermate and thus Onestar's son. They could have adjusted his age just like they made Onestar older in this book to be littermates with Morningflower and Ashfoot instead of being from a different litter. And as you've said, the concept of Onestar naming his own son deputy (that sweet nepotism) after the previous one died (his sister Ashfoot so also kind of nepotism) could have indeed been interesting to see.

Yeah, I honestly love this. We see how he hurts even the cats he loves constantly without meaning to because he’s so desperate to live up to an idealized image and can’t accept his own failures. It’s reprehensible, but I do feel sympathy in a sense for how it’s so obvious that he’s absolutely starved for approval. This is much more like how I wanted LH to go, where no excuses are made for the catastrophe of a person they are. I get the same vibes reading this summary as I do when thinking about Hollyleaf’s fall from grace. I hope it sticks the landing and the prose matches up to that

Chapter 17: Harespring suggests to Onestar that they ask ThunderClan for help against the stoats. Onestar’s fur bristled. Harespring had asked for ThunderClan’s help before and he had refused. Onestar had to admit to himself that Harespring was doing the duty of a good deputy but his belly still rolled with fury at the thought of going back on his words of so many seasons ago. Onestar tries to tell him off, as this is the first Gathering since the Great Battle and there are more important things to discuss. Harespring still tries to persuade him but he refuses. Harespring unhappily tells him that he knows that Onestar only chose him to make a point that Dark Forest trainees can be trusted but he remembers how much Onestar admired Ashfoot and how much he took her advice. Onestar feels darkness enfold him at the mention of Ashfoot. Her death still haunted him. He respected Harespring, but couldn’t rely on him the way he relied on Ashfoot. Onestar insults Harespring that if he had a fraction of Ashfoot’s knowledge he would listen to him, but he doesn’t. Onestar realizes he has gone too far and tells Harespring he will have to earn his trust. They discuss who to take at the Gathering. Harespring objects to Onestar’s suggestions of Breezepelt and Weaselfur. He doesn’t want the other Clans to think he is ashamed of Breezepelt. Harespring points out that Weaselfur is spitefully accusing Breezepelt and shouldn’t be rewarded, Onestar privately realizes he is right but he would seem weak if he backs down now.
Onestar tells the Clans that Nightcloud is dead. Bramblestar accuses Onestar of not telling ThunderClan about the stoats. Onestar privately notes that he knew very well that ThunderClan already knew about the stoats as their warriors caught his emerging from the tunnels on ThunderClan territory. Onestar cant help enjoying Bramblestar’s discomfited expression when Mistystar tells him off. Onestar is about to step back when Weaselfur accuses Breezepelt of Nightcloud’s murder. Onestar draws in a breath of pure fury and realizes Harespring was right about Weaselfur. As Weaselfur goes on, Onestar is not sure what to do and it was too late to do anything as WindClan’s most private affairs were being revealed. He thinks that Weaselfur will be on dawn patrol for at least a moon. Onestar is worried that Breezepelt will break the Gathering truce when he charges at Spiderleg. Onestar tries to tell him to stop but he doesn’t listen. Onestar has no idea what to do and is relieved when Jayfeather intervenes. They discuss Kestrelflight’s vision. Bramblestar asks why he wasn’t told about this, Onestar replies it was a WindClan vision, both Bramblestar and Onestar are putting in effort to stay calm and hold on to their patience. Onestar wonders if Harespring had been right and that he should be prepared for ThunderClan and WindClan to work together as it would be a way of honoring Firestar’s memory and creating a good relationship with the new ThunderClan leader. Onestar is super glad the Gathering is over.
As he is about to jump off the tree, Bramblestar comments about Crowfeather and Breezepelt in a friendly tone. Onestar agrees with him and calmly talks with him, but is worried that Bramblestar might know about Smoke and Darkkit, as some WindClan warriors knew his secret and it was possible for word to spread, especially during Great Journey. Onestar wonders what it would be like and mean for a Clan leader to have a secret over him. He scolds himself and calls himself a fool to think that Bramblestar would be just like Firestar and that Ashfoot was right about not trusting the other Clans and that he shouldn’t have listened to that naïve Harespring, who has as much sense as a kit in the nursery.
He rejects Bramblestar’s help, much to the latter’s shock but Bramblestar tells him to let him know if he changes his mind. Onestar cannot stop thinking about Smoke and Darkkit now even though he hadn’t thought of them in moons. He has a dream in which fire encompasses the old territory. He desperately calls for Smoke and Darkkit, wanting to save them, when a fully grown Darkkit attacks him and slashes at his throat. Onestar wakes up and stumbles to the open. A white shape attacks. He wonders if Darkkit is here and remembers Stoneteller’s prophecy. He then sees a whole crowd of Darkkits attack the camp and realizes they are stoats, confused by their white bodies and black tails.

Personally I don't like Onestar, never did, and I knew a POV on him would be awful no matter what, but with the way things are going, it's even more worse than I thought it would be, worse than Leopardstar's SE. Leopardstar did what she did because she personally believed it to be the right thing, she did morally wrong things for the right reasons to help her clan, and realizes the errors of her ways later. But she still had enough time to turn her life around and serve her clan properly in a way that didn't make RiverClan weak. So she comes off as lawful evil if anything. But Onestar is just quite literally worse so far. You have him being an unreliable narrator, AND other cats around him trying to justify his actions, when that shouldn't be the case at all?? And he has so many opportunities to do what is right, he's self-aware of what he's doing wrong, but does nothing and let his problems stew in a pot. It pushes him into neutral evil territory, and he comes off as way more selfish than I thought he initially was. Everything he's doing is for his own gain and image, and out of cowardly habit. It's frustrating imo, like I guess I expected better?? And the pacing doesn't doesn't help either.

It is super disappointing that the PoT battle was skipped. A huge missed opportunity and it feels like we’re missing the climax of Onestar’s envy and shame exploding and skipping just to the embers of it. Nevertheless, the imagery of him mistaking the stoats for Darkkit sounds so awesome, it says a lot about how paranoid and anxious he is. Also the way he just keeps making horrible decisions but then can’t back down because he’s too busy trying to look strong is great. Guy is basically poisoned by toxic expectations he created for himself
