So if Heathertail is Onestar's daughter, do you think he's going to find out about her and Lionblaze, and then turns into a total hypocrite and berates her for it, all under the guise of "Do as I say not as I do" or?

Chapter 14: Onewhisker and Firestar are on the tree stump, having announced what Tallstar said. Onewhisker wonders if he is the right leader for WindClan and how he can do it, how can he convince his Clanmates when he is the right cat when he isn’t sure himself. Everything happened so fast, he couldn’t believe this was really happening. He comforts himself that he still has Firestar to help him figure out how to be leader. But as the thought goes through, he knows how hard it would be to even be a pale copy of Firestar.
Mudclaw glares up and screeches at him in fury, commotion occurs. Wanting to satisfy Mudclaw and his Clanmates and still take leadership, he tells Mudclaw he wants him to be deputy, but he refuses and tries to turn WindClan against Onewhisker. As Brambleclaw tells the Clan what he heard, panic rises in Onewhisker and he wonders why Tallstar chose him, as even though Tallstar praised his judgement, he still lacked Mudclaw’s strength and aggression and WindClan was vulnerable now. Onewhisker wonders if he himself will be the cause of WindClan faltering. Mudclaw calls him a traitor, angering Onewhisker, as he knows he isn’t one, having spent the most time of any warrior with Tallstar. Crowfeather and some cats accept him, making Onewhisker calmer but he then wonders how he will get his nine-lives and name. Barkface has Mudclaw stop ranting and Mudclaw tells him he will never serve as his deputy, massively relieving Onewhisker, as he dreaded having to work with him. Firestar tells him he needs to appoint a deputy, Onewhisker knows Firestar is telling him he is vulnerable. He considers Crowfeather for deputy, but realizes he is too young and too friendly with the cats from the other Clans who had made the journey with him. His gaze eventually falls on Ashfoot, she is sensible, quiet, loyal and he couldn’t choose better. The warriors chant her name very enthusiastically when he chooses her.
He is still worried about how he will get his nine-lives. He thinks that if he can go to the forest, he can find Smoke and Darkkit and maybe lead them to the lake and that maybe in time WindClan could accept them. He asks Firestar how he will get his nine-lives and name. Firestar thinks his suggestion of returning to the Moonstone is ridiculous. Tallstar’s vigil happens. Onewhisker crouches next to him and silently tells him that while he put him in an impossible position, he will miss him.
Onewhisker looks around satisfied at the new WindClan camp, the dens already built. Ashfoot sorts the days hunting patrols efficiently. But some cats give Onewhisker unfriendly glances. The day before, he gave up territory to ThunderClan, an unpopular choice. Onewhisker wishes his Clanmates could see it was the right thing to do. The terrain doesn’t suit WindClan and it would help secure WindClan’s friendship with Firestar, who had been supportive of his leadership so far. Ashfoot puts Mudclaw in charge of the last patrol and has him hunt rabbits near the ThunderClan border. Mudclaw replies by saying “Just not as long as they are ThunderClan rabbits, we wouldn’t want to steal Firestar’s prey, would we”. Onewhisker controls himself, but a moment later, Mudclaw, with a truculent expression, asks Onewhisker when the last time he hunted for the Clan was and that he was getting out of shape and lazy. Trying to show Mudclaw that he could be a good leader, he says it would be an honor to hunt alongside my Clanmates.
Onewhisker finds a rabbit and is about to catch it when Mudclaw rushes towards him and scares the prey away. When Onewhisker glares at and questions him, Mudclaw says there are other rabbits and that he needs to talk with him. Mudclaw tell him that “Now that we are alone, I want to appeal to your love of your Clan. Ive always known you as a loyal WindClan warrior…right”. Onewhisker wonders what he is getting at. Mudclaw continues, “Then do you truly believe that of the two of us, youre more likely to keep WindClan safe?” Onewhisker now understands where this is going, much to his disappointment that Mudclaw didn’t want to talk things out. Instead, Mudclaw was appealing to his consciousness in a bid to make him give up leadership. Onewhisker brings up Tallstar but Mudclaw says “Im not talking about Tallstar, I am talking about what we know, between the two of us. Ive been planning to lead WindClan my whole life. My Clanmates respect me, even cats from other Clans respect me. And I have no strange…associations that might put our Clan in danger. Onewhisker is worried Mudclaw knows about Smoke and Darkkit. Mudclaw says, “You know what I mean. Its obvious that Firestar is very fond of you-too fond in my opinion” Onewhisker tells him his opinion doesn’t matter in the slightest and that Tallstar made him deputy and Tallstar was chosen by StarClan. Mudclaw points out that he hasn’t been chosen. Onewhisker worries about never finding another Moonstone and what would happen then and how he could be a good leader without StarClan’s blessing. He wishes he knew more about why Tallstar chose him. Mudclaw tells him he is not a real leader and half the Clan doubts him and if Mudclaw challenged him, Onewhisker’s support would fall apart easily. Onewhisker cant control himself and attacks Mudclaw, but Mudclaw easily bests him. Mudclaw tells him he wont challenge him now as that would be too easy but that he will be watching him and that he will do whatever it takes to save the Clan. Onewhisker tries to believe Mudclaw is bluffing as Onewhisker had his Clan’s support at least outwardly. Onewhisker knows that to be truly safe from Mudclaw, he will need his nine-lives as no cat could argue with a StarClan-blessed cat and then he can work out what to do with Mudclaw.
He later sees Mudclaw and Webfoot escorting Leafpaw. Her sparkling eyes and energy gives Onewhisker anticipation. Leafpaw tells him that StarClan gave her a message and she needs to speak with Barkface. When she is speaking with Barkface, the other cats try to make out the conversation. Onewhisker cant read Mudclaw’s expression. Barkface tells the Clan what Leafpaw told him – the discovery of the Moonpool. Tomorrow night, the medicine cats would meet and the night after that, Onewhisker would get his nine-lives. Onewhisker tells Barkface to delay his ceremony by a day so that he wouldn’t need to travel to the Moonpool twice in two days. Onewhisker becomes aware of Mudclaw watching him and remembers few days ago, when a fox attacked the camp and headed straight for him, Mudclaw had seen the fox but had done nothing and that Mudclaw was clearly hoping it would kill him. Onewhisker hated to think Mudclaw would be capable of such disloyalty but there was no way to ignore the hatred in his eyes.
Ashfoot asks Onewhisker to walk with him after Leapaw leaves. They walk to the moor and Ashfoot tells him some cats have reported seeing Mudclaw hanging around with Hawkfrost. They both agree they are up to something. Onewhisker says he knows Mudclaw and is prepared for anything he might try, yet both of them are still doubtful. He wonders how he can defeat Mudclaw in battle and ponders over different strategies but knows he has no way of beating him if Hawkfrost fights on Mudclaw’s side. Ashfoot, embarrassed, tells him that there is something else – that back in old territory some of the warriors talked about Smoke and how she had wanted to speak to Onewhisker. Ashfoot had saw and spoken to her once and Smoke told Ashfoot her name and that she had a kit and that Onewhisker was the father. Onewhisker begs her not to tell Whitetail. Ashfoot says that she would never hurt Whitetail like that, but that Onewhisker must realize that a secret like that can leave him vulnerable. Onewhisker says he doesn’t know why Tallstar chose him – he is no Firestar.
Ashfoot corrects him by saying he is no Tallstar and to stop with the Firestar business and that he will be and could be the perfect leader WindClan needs. Onewhisker says he hopes she is right. He says that he feels like he has to hang on, to fulfill Tallstar’s dying wish, but its so hard. Ashfoot vigorously tells him to pull himself together. Onewhisker says he doesn’t feel like a leader and never has, but Ashfoot says he will and he must.
The night is dark, Barkface had met with the medicine cats the previous night. Onewhisker only needs to make it through this night and the following day but cant forget what Mudclaw said to him before. Sure enough, yowls split the darkness and Mudclaw, Webfoot and Cedarheart pour over the edge of the hollow and attack Onewhisker. Whitetail drags Mudclaw off him and more WindClan cats join the battle. Hawkfrost fights Ashfoot, Whitetail and Nightcloud fight and Crowfeather fights a ShadowClan cat. Onewhisker wonders how he can win this battle as Mudclaw brought so many cats from other Clans. To his relief he sees Firestar with a ThunderClan patrol, Brambleclaw and Mistyfoot join the battle on his side. Webfoot attacks and wounds his shoulder. Onewhisker scolds himself- the battle field is no place to get distracted. Mudclaw and Hawkfrost and the ShadowClan cats flee. Brambleclaw tells Crowfeather to go after the ShadowClan cats while Brambleclaw goes after Mudclaw and Hawkfrost.
Onewhisker is overcome by the pain in his shoulder and when Whitetail calls for Barkface, Onewhisker tells her “it doesn’t matter”, “I don’t deserve help”, “I don’t deserve you”. Whitetail asks him if he has bees in his brain. Barkface treats him and as Onewhisker closes his eyes, all he can see is Mudclaw lunging at him. Onewhisker says “I was too blind to see what was right in front of me. I knew Mudclaw was dangerous, but I didn’t see the attack coming. I should have chased Mudclaw. I have to stop relying on ThunderClan and be my own leader.”
Firestar approaches him and asks if hes ok. Onewhisker nods wearily and thanks him for coming. Firestar takes him towards RiverClan territory where they see Brambleclaw, Squirrelflight and Mudclaw. Onewhisker wonders where Hawkfrost is. They see the tree fall on Mudclaw. They go closer to the damage and see Hawkfrost pulling out Mudclaw’s body. Hawkfrost tells Onewhisker his leadership is safe. Onewhisker looks at Mudclaw’s body in regret as he could have given so much to his Clan. Ashfoot and Onewhisker accuse Hawkfrost of betrayal and Hawkfrost accepts and tells Onewhisker to do what he wants with him. Onewhisker looks at Firestar, who flicks his ears, unwilling to offer advice. Onewhisker tells himself that this is his time to be a leader. Ashfoot tells him this was a clear sign from StarClan that he is to be leader and that his leadership is safe. Onewhisker seems to hear Tallstar’s voice, “Lead! Use your judgement!” Onewhisker thinks how he could tear Hawkfrost to death and punish or exile the WindClan cats that turned against him, but wonders what he’d gain by doing that. He pardons Hawkfrost and all the rest.
Brackenfur excitedly points out that they can use the fallen tree to reach the island for Gatherings. The mood changes to excitement and Onewhisker notes how this is now truly the home StarClan meant for them. He sees the sun rising, a new day had begun. He thinks, “WindClan is still together. I almost lost it all, but I didn’t. Now I must become the leader WindClan needs. And I will.” He had survived and he promised himself that WindClan would do the same. Nothing was more important to him than his Clan.

28 pages!? Jesus! Really appreciate the details you're including in your summaries, Spine! Okay, I had a feeling the entire Mudclaw plot was going to be covered in a single chapter. And yeah, Onewhisker, you definitely don't deserve Whitetail!

Chapter 11: That's so...vile. So even when she literally has nowhere to go, and she's once again begging him for help, he still turns her away like a coward. He still refuses to take responsibility. It's the equivalent of leaving your mistress and illegitimate child out on the streets out of fear for your prestigious reputation with your "higher society". It's scummy and gross.
Darkkit was already angry at him before, at such a young age, I doubt it took much more for Smoke to convince him. Since the only thing she seemed to enforce was his hatred for the clan cats and what they stood for. Especially if his own father treats them the way they did. Even going as far as to shove her aside to keep her quiet, and then telling them empty promises. He practically left them to die considering the conditions of the forest at the time, abandoning them to an unknown fate.
Chapter 12: I like that Mudclaw is pretty consistent, but it's notable that Tallstar is showing that he's more disapproved toward Mudclaw before and leading to the end of the journey?? Which is weird?? Because if that were the case, that means he could have had plenty of time to make the deputy switch, especially in the presence of all FOUR clans + even the tribe, and the change wouldn't have been questioned at all as much as it was later?? Also Mudclaw acting as leader is pretty much his job, he's deputy, I'm not sure what else they expect him to do when Tallstar is in his prime, and shouldn't be traveling at all to be honest. So the deputy stepping in and doing the duties of the leader makes sense, I don't know why that's being side-eyed at this point?
Also, the same thing applies to Onestar, he had plenty of time to once again tell his clan the truth, at least tell Whitetail, but he doesn't?? They even get an EXTRA day in the mountains, and the thought DOES cross his mind prior. I get the chapter is trying to give reasoning behind certain scenes, but if anything it just makes the cats involved seem even more incompetent or cowardly? And that tribe prophecy was just...not necessary.
Chapter 13: This is just...even more annoying. I don't know, once again, what Onewhisker expected in this scenario?? Deputy taking charge when the leader is practically on their deathbed, makes sense. Someone had to be present to represent WindClan, did they expect to just have everyone sit by and do nothing while the other leaders discussed business?? Seriously. Also notably things; Onewhisker once again confirming he never wanted to be leader, but now we know he didn't even think he deserved it. Him being surprised by Bramble and Fire both being with Tallstar in his last moments. Them all knowing Tall's wish of having peace between Thunder and Wind is impossible REGARDLESS of who the leader was, because that's just how clan structure works. And it's annoying that no one ever made the effort to actually inform the deputy, Mudclaw, of any of this, when they could of, and the previous chapter makes putting off this change even more annoying. Because they really did just wait until the last moments of Tallstar's dying breaths, actually annoying.
Chapter 14: So Onewhisker was only going to make Mudclaw deputy to appease both sides, sigh. And him only finally thinking about Smoke and Darkkit when it was convenient to him, but not when they needed him, just yikes. The conversation Mudclaw and Onewhisker have in private is rather...interesting. I think it's interesting in a way that it shows that Mudclaw doesn't have a problem talking with Onestar in private, and cutting to the chase. Which, I like. But it does annoy me that Onewhisker's only replies were to deny his words and even go as far as attacking him. Mudclaw may be a "jerk" in his eyes, but he's right. And if Mudclaw HAD killed him in the moment, it would have easily been self-defense, but he didn't. I think it's interesting to note that, a lot of cats seem to be unfriendly with Onewhisker, him giving up territory was an unpopular opinion, and at least half the clan didn't have faith in Onewhisker's leadership, and the rest would easily crumble if Mudclaw defeated him. This once again also goes into the "they had plenty of time to make the said decision but didn't" situation when it comes to Onewhisker stepping down.
So Ashfoot is another cat that found out, and another cat that Onewhisker begged to stay quiet, for Whitetail's sake. Like...this whole thing rubs me the wrong way. Whitetail really does deserve better, and the fact that Ashfoot points out how his decisions can make them vulnerable in the future, is more than enough reason to make me hate it more. "He's no Firestar" he says, yet he relies so much on him, and is 10x worse already. Also, I was never really an Ashfoot fan, she always felt like a doormat, but the fact that she is way more sensible, and headstrong than Onewhisker actually makes me like her. So I think I'll move her to neutral/like, and she can join the same camp as "they would have been better leaders than Onestar" group.
Mudclaw's rebellion, happens, once again, another moment to show how weak of a leader Onewhisker is. He gets clapped so easily in the fight, and doesn't even get to chase off and finish Mudclaw. Instead he's wailing about how he doesn't deserve Whitetail (which is true) and she's wondering if he has bees for brains (which is also true). And something to note, I think it's funny that other cats throughout this book so far have basically been calling out how he's too dang friendly with cats outside of his clan, even his own deputy. It wasn't just Mudclaw, and if Tallstar is doing it to the point that he makes you deputy last second, then you have a problem, if that's the only reason why. And his resentment of Firestar started way back, even before the Mudclaw situation, he was just cowardly, like...

Also, I find it funny that the narrative seems to be saying that Onestar's key character trope, and reason for being leader is having amazing judgment skills, when so far he's shown quite the opposite.

Maybe that's meant to be ironic? We've known since POT that he's a massive coward. He's pretty much unanimously hated by the fandom; wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the team also hates him. I'd personally poke fun at him if given the chance.

Chapter 15: Onewhisker and Barkface go to the Moonpool. Onewhisker still has his doubts about being WindClan’s chosen leader and worries if StarClan made a mistake. He tells himself that if StarClan made a mistake, he can always go back to Smoke and Darkkit but admits he hasn’t thought of them since the night of the battle. He expects Smoke to have found a new kittypet and thinks that kittypets don’t do well in the Clans except for Firestar, but Firestar is an exceptional cat in a lot of ways. They reach the Moonpool, Onewhisker is in awe. He touches the Moonpool with his nose, it’s colder than he could have ever imagined. He closes his eyes and after what seems like seasons opens them. He only sees utter darkness and is afraid he is in the Dark Forest, he doesn’t think he has done anything bad to be sent there. He eventually can see his own shadow and the moor ahead of him, a frosty light coming from behind him, which became stronger and stronger.
A familiar voice behind him goes, “Welcome, Onewhisker”. Onewhisker recognizes it as Tallstar. Onewhisker asks if this is StarClan and Tallstar tells him yes it is and asks him if he is ready to receive his nine lives. Onewhisker says he isn’t sure and asks if he really is the right cat to lead WindClan. Tallstar affectionately says ofc he is and that he has already been tested when he didn’t even have his nine lives and Tallstar is now even more certain he made the right choice. Onewhisker straightens up and is confident and determined. Tallstar gives him a life for judgement, Onewhisker gasps at the pain. He looks at the half circle of cats and sees his parents and Brushpaw there, he is happy the latter made it to StarClan. Stagleap gives him a life for strength. Wrenflight gives him a life for love, which is very painful for Onewhisker. Sorrelstripe comes forward, Onewhisker tells her “he will tell Whitetail…” but is cut off as Sorrelstripe tells him he isn’t allowed to say anything about the ceremony. She gives him a life for loyalty, he gets an image of Smoke and Darkkit and wonders if he betrayed them. He would put it all right if he could. Brushpaw steps forward and starts chatting with him about his death, Bailey, Melody and StarClan. Tallstar has to cough and gently remind him about Onewhisker’s life. Brushpaw gives him a life for friendship (HA). He tells Onewhisker to use it between cat and cat, Onewhisker wonders if its also for between Clan and Clan. Brushpaw asks if he did ok. Onewhisker assures him he did great. The next cat, Onewhisker doesn’t know, her eyes full of wisdom. She tells him he might have heard of her if the elders still told stories – she is Windstar, the first leader. Onewhisker gasps and dips his head in awe. She gives him a life for survival, Onewhisker gets a glimpse of how hard it must have been for the founding leaders to build the Clans without the warrior code. As she walks back, Windstar and the next cat exchange nods as if they know each other. The cat tells Onewhisker his name is Gorsestar and that he was Windstar’s mate and deputy and the second leader, which doesn’t impress Onewhisker as much as Windstar did. He gives a life for sense. Gorsepaw, whom Onewhisker is overjoyed to see, gives him a life for compassion. The last cat to give him a life is also the last cat he expected to see – Mudclaw. He asks him what he is doing here, Mudclaw twists his mouth and asks if he thought he deserved the Dark Forest. Onewhisker says of course he doesn’t but what is he doing here – to give him a life? Mudclaw looks embarrassed and tells him it was Tallstar’s idea. He gives him a life for determination and tells him he is sorry for everything and hopes he can forgive him. Tallstar greets him with his new name, Onestar. Tallstar tells him to always put WindClan first and that ensuring his Clan’s survival is his life’s work now. He asks him if he is prepared. Onestar, meaning his words for the first time in his life, says he is prepared. They disappear slowly. He wakes up, Barkface drowsing by his side.
Onestar leads his Clan to his second Gathering as leader. He is proud/satisfied for having been the first to think of the two fox-lengths away rule for crossing territories to Gatherings and reflects that his leadership has been going well. For the first moon he gave the cats who supported Mudclaw extra tasks but had now completely forgiven them. But the thought that some of his Clanmates plotted against him still bothered him at the back of his mind and if he were to keep his promise to Tallstar, he would have to put all his energy to being the strongest leader he could be.
He asks Ashfoot for her opinion about what their Clanmates think about his leadership. She tells him hes really stepped up since getting his nine lives but some of them are still worried how friendly he was to Firestar and ThunderClan, citing giving up territory. Onestar defends himself, saying that Firestar gave it back but Ashfoot says that while Firestar may be a noble cat, they are WindClan and don’t want him as their leader. Onestar tells her not to worry and reminds her how he sent Firestar back when he came to warn them about the fox. He says there is nothing more important to him than WindClan, not even friendships or his own private concerns. Ashfoot says while she is glad to hear it, he will need to prove it to his Clanmates. Onestar agrees that he would need a show of strength for his Clanmates to believe he was the right leader of WindClan and decides to make sure that it wont be a problem.
On the Great Oak, he keeps his gaze fixed on the cats below and is careful not to look at Firestar in case the ThunderClan leader thought he wanted to talk. Onestar sadly reflects that he wouldn’t mind talking, just not here, in front of every cat. He, like Firestar misses the old days, when they were friends. But like Tallstar said, he had to put his Clan first and convince his Clanmates he would never defer to or ask Firestar for help. But deep down he knows that ThunderClan and Firestar are only a threat in his imagination. Onestar looks at Crowfeather and thinks he is too friendly to ThunderClan and might need a talking-to, for now he will keep an eye on him. Onestar thinks “Typical” when Firestar announces that he took in Daisy and her kits, the same ones WindClan had chased out when she had crossed WindClan territory first. He wonders if he made the right decision, but it was too late now. Blackstar and Leopardstar thank ThunderClan for their help, Onestar feels anger rise up inside him at how ThunderClan wants a paw in every Clan and no cat is blaming the other leaders for accepting Firestar’s help. He gets to his paws and does his act, telling Firestar with a ferocious stare to stop interfering in other Clans’ business. He sees the shock and hurt in Firestar’s gaze but cant let himself react to it, thinking “its not easy for me, either”. An outraged Cloudtail yowls at Onestar, who responds with, “That was different”. Firestar says, “Exactly…[StarClan wouldn’t want us to stop helping each other]”. Onestar yearns to agree with him but cant as his Clanmates would be hanging to every word waiting to see if hed give way to ThunderClan. Onestar feels rage and regret as Firestar says “…StarClan wouldn’t want them to turn their backs…” along with an admiration for Firestar he cant shake off. All these feelings make him unaware of what he is saying anymore and he hisses at Firestar, who shakes his head helplessly.
Blackstar ends the Gathering. ShadowClan is already crossing the bridge. Onestar is waiting with his Clan, he sees Firestar, away from his Clan a little bit, beckoning to him. Onestar hesitates but pads over to him. Firestar tells him he is proving himself a worthy leader and he understands WindClan must come first, but hopes they can still be friends. More than anything, Onestar wants to agree, but can feel his warriors’ gaze on him. He responds with, “a leader can have no real friends in other Clans”. Firestar’s whiskers droop in disappointment. He tells him whatever he did in the past, he wasn’t trying to control him, he did it only out of concern for him and WindClan. He asks Onestar if he thinks he is that selflish. Onestar doesn’t know how to answer. He doesn’t believe Firestar is selfish but whether he did or didn’t was irrelevant as he has to run his own Clan. Firestar hopefully asks him if they can run their own Clan but still be cordial. Firstar’s voice and the look in his eyes showed how upset he was by Onestar’s silence. Onestar still doesn’t know what to say and by that time ShadowClan finished crossing the bridge so he dips his head to Firestar and leaps onto the trunk to guide his Clan across. He looks back at Firestar, still sitting at the waters edge a little way apart from his Clan. Deep regret pierces Onestar like a claw. Firestar did so much for him and maybe one day they could be friends again. But right now Onestar has a higher priority – to keep his Clan safe.

Poor Firestar! Though on a lighter note:
I don't know why this was funny to me, but it was! Kinda feel bad for Gorsestar, though. Still hoping he gets something one day.

Chapter 16: In the seasons the Clans had settled around the lake, Onestar had settled comfortably to his position as leader. He regretted to have losing his closeness with Firestar but accepted his old friend was a great leader for ThunderClan while Onestar was creating his own leadership. Whitetail gives birth to Heatherkit. Onestar and Whitetail agree she is perfect. Onestar’s expression darkness, Whitetail tells him she knows he is worrying about Galekit, Heatherkit’s littermate who hadn’t even drawn a single breath and Whitetail assures him he is being cared for in StarClan. He leaves the den, Onestar was not thinking about Galekit, but rather Smoke and Darkkit. He saw how helpless Heatherkit was and realized Darkkit was like that too and that’s why Smoke kept trying to talk to him. He thinks that maybe he could have truly been his father if hed been able to welcome him and Smoke to the Clan. He wonders if he could go back to the forest for them now, but shakes his head as it would be even harder to explain to Whitetail who they were and remembers Brushpaw. WindClan was strong now and he couldn’t risk weakening it.
Ashfoot tells him he has a visitor – Firestar and Leafpool, to his surprise. Firestar says they came to congratulate him on Heatherkit and are sorry about Galekit. Onestar is overwhelmed with emotion, its hard for him to reveal his true emotions with his Clanmates watching, but it touches him to the heart that Firestar understood him so well. Onestar chokes out, “Thank you”. Since he rejected Firestar’s help when he first received nine-lives he never regained the closeness he once had with him but still recognizes the kind friend who had helped him in his early days of leadership. Onestar misses Firestar so much, noting this with a pang of regret, but understands that being a leader is a lonely job. Leafpool has brought herbs for Whitetail. Ashfoot is suspicious as Onestar thanks Leafpool. Ashfoot says it is odd that ThunderClan would think that they need herbs. Firestar and Leafpool are offended. Kestrelpaw mentioned that WindClan stock was low and Leafpool only wanted to help. Onestar is embarrassed by his deputy’s suspicion. Ashfoot asks if they are expecting some of WindClan territory in return. Onestar snaps at her to stop, Ashfoot glares at him and Onestar can tell she is annoyed that he isn’t questioning Firestar or treating him with equal suspicion. Firestar tells Onestar he brought the herbs because Onestar is still his friend. Onestar thanks him but says they do not need the herb and tells himself to have a word with Kestrelpaw about revealing their herb shortage. Firestar says he is glad to hear it and they leave. Onestar realizes that Firestar had been surprised by their refusal of the herbs. Part of him was sorry he rejected the friendly gesture but remembered what Tallstar said to put WindClan first. Onestar considers himself lucky, but still wishes he still had friends.
Heatherkit had opened her eyes one day. Onestar then sees Tornear and Owlwhisker escorting Brambleclaw and Thornclaw, who in turn were escorting Crowfeather. Onestar wonders what he has done now and reflects how he left the Clan with Leafpool and how it had taken a long time for Onestar to trust him again. Thornclaw tells Onestar they found Crowfeather hanging on their territory near their best herb gathering spot. Brambleclaw says that Firestar made it quite clear he expects Crowfeather to be punished. Onestar tells himself that not even Firestar can tell him how to run his Clan. Thornclaw tells Onestar that he will probably end up giving Crowfeather the first piece of fresh-kill. When they leave, upon Crowfeather’s request he and Onestar talk in private. Crowfeather reveals he went to ThunderClan to check on Leafpool because he wanted to make sure she was happy now, something stirred when he saw her again with Firestar on their territory. Onestar says that he too has had his loyalties split much to Crowfeather’s shock. He tells Crowfeather he wont punish him as the way he is tying himself in knots is punishment enough but to never speak to Leafpool in private again or cross the ThunderClan border. When Crowfeather asks if he will tell Nightcloud, Onestar gets reminded of Smoke and Darkkit and says no as some secrets are better kept safe.
At the Gathering, Onestar only has peaceful news to share – Heatherkit and Breezekit’s birth. Blackstar is about to announce the end of the Gathering when Firestar springs to his paws and calls out Crowfeathers name, saying he is surprised to see him there after what happened. He tells the Clans that Crowfeather was found lurking on their territory and Onestar had agreed to punish him. He turns to Onestar and demands if that is how he punishes wrongdoers, by allowing him to attend the next Gathering. Firestar continues and tells the Clans what Kestrelpaw said and asks Onestar if he is protecting his pride by stealing for herbs instead of accepting the herbs that Firestar offered.
Onestar cant believe that Firestar is attacking him, its like being struck by lightning when the sky was clear and blue. He regretfully realizes that he had pushed Firestar away too many times, insisting they couldn’t be friends when they led rival Clans, so he couldn’t blame Firestar for finally behaving like a rival. Onestar retorts that Crowfeather wasn’t stealing anything and knowing the whole story he decided not to punish him. Blackstar takes Firestar’s side and taunts Onestar, saying that if this happened on ShadowClan land the WindClan warriors would return bleeding. Onestar is highly offended and asks him to stop. He gives Firestar a furious glare and asks if he is looking for a fight. Onestar realizes something had irrevocably changed between them. They had not been friends since hed received his nine lives and now it felt as if a deep cleft was opening at their paws. He knows that he and Firestar can never recover their earlier friendship. Firestar says that it isn’t worth lives, but if it happens again, he may adopt Blackstar’s methods, much to the Clans’ amusement.
Firestar waits for him at the tree bridge and asks him why he didn’t punish Crowfeather, whom he agreed was an outstanding warrior, as he broke the warrior code. Onestar’s anger swelled up again and refuses to punish Crowfeather and tells him to stop meddling in others affairs and look at his own cats and even his own kin. Firestar looks puzzles then nods, going “So this is how it is. Very well, I hope youll remember this conversation the next time WindClan needs ThunderClan’s help.” Onestar replies that that will never happen, before leaving.

Finally, the "Harestar is Heathertail's brother" theory can be laid to rest! RIP, Galekit, though! Again, no parent should have to outlive their child. As for Crowfeather... Well, I can't say I'm surprised, that's for sure.

" Onestar cant believe that Firestar is attacking him,"
man Onestar is really suffering from leopards-ate-my-face syndrome isn't he
Side Note: I do feel bad that he lost Galekit, RIP Galekit.
Kind of wish they would have expanded on that though, as both Heatherkit and Breezekit were the only kits to survive their litter. Could have done a minor sickness plot to give more credence to the herb-bringing but what can ya do.

I enjoyed the Heathertail Kestrelflight Harestar littlemates headcannon so this is a bit disappointing. I didn't realize Kestrelpaw was much older than Heatherkit and the Three.

Chapter 15: It annoys me that he thinks he can just run away from all of his problems and go back to Smoke and Darkkit when it's only convenient to him. Seriously? Judgment once again being used for his character trope, this really is ironic, can't wait to get the pdf version so I can see how many times this word was used alone in this book. Why wasn't this just called Onestar's Judgement?? I find it ironic Brushpaw gave him a life for friendship, and yikes at making Mudclaw give Onestar a life, srs I wouldn't even bother with a request like that after everything Tallstar and Onewhisker did, lol. Ugh. I'm actually so annoyed by Onestar, and the way he treats Firestar. It's fine if you want to seem more independent and strong in front of your clan, but you can do that in a cordial manner while also still not being a jerk to your allies and friends. All he did was just lashing out because of his own insecurities, and he won't even be honest about it, it's annoying how he tries to rationalize his behavior. He treats those that care about him or love him like garbage, Firestar deserved better. Chapter 16: So he wasn't thinking about his recently deceased son, Galekit, and was thinking about Darkkit and Smoke again after abandoning them. Ha...okay, sure. He really just never went back for them... I changed my mind about Ashfoot, that was just...stupid. Also, how can you think about putting your clan first when you just turned away perfectly good herbs, hunh? Onestar is a trip. What....WHAT. Not Crowfeather trying to see Leafpool WHILE he was with Nightcloud???? HUNH. And now we know Crowfeather knew about Onestar being in an illegal relationship at one point in the past, there's no way this is real, lmfao. YOOOO I LOVE WHEN FIRESTAR CLAPS BACK!! THANK STARCLAN, ALSO HIM AND BLACKSTAR TEAMING UP TO DUNK ON ONESTAR! My favorite aesthetic is Firestar putting Onestar in his place.
