Because... she loves Tigerheart, and that's not really something she needs to explain? Idk, I'm just glad she's happy now. According to Kate on BlogClan: It's also worth noting that at the time of agreeing to meet with him, Jayfeather and Lionblaze only really saw her as more of a tool than her own cat, Ivypaw was being cold towards her, and no one else from the journey still wanted to be friends with her except for Tigerheart, the one cat who didn't have any high expectations of her that she could see. She met with him out of loneliness and then it quickly turned into love. I still wish she'd moved to ShadowClan much sooner, though. See, it does make me wish they had expressed this through Dovewing's narrative though, and not with the cost of her ripping into or dragging along other characters. If the writing perspective of her character was actually done better, it wouldn't have been so bad, a much better example being Bristlefrost. Like I mentioned, I think people would have much less criticism toward her if her character was just genuinely more honest, and consistent, and didn't revolved mostly only romance in general. I genuinely would have preferred her turning Bumblestripe down properly, and them remaining good friends, because he did care about her as a clanmate too. A lot could have been avoided if there just was better communication. At one point I actually did like Dove as a character, specifically as Dovepaw, and also in her novella, she was very likable and well written, but then the rest was just...unenjoyable imo.

Oh, totally! I still like Dovewing, but that's more to do with just how much wasted potential she has! And there are glimmers— glimmers, I say—of a much better character there, but for the most part, it seemed like the Erins didn't quite know what to do with Dovewing besides getting her into a relationship with Tigerheart. The fact that their relationship isn't even all that good and didn't even lead to any long-term consequences as far as OotS is concerned really doesn't help much. There's a reason why I loved her so much in SotM and especially TFW. Had they leaned into that aspect of her character more—the lonely overachiever who tries to please everyone—she probably could've been great! Either way, her love story really didn't need to be as dragged out as it had been.

Reading through these recent comments got me seriously contemplating whether the inconsistency in writing of Dovewing’s character is byproduct of being intentionally written that way, or Victoria being overloaded work-wise. Considering during OoTS release cycle was undoubtedly the peak of this series popularity, most books being released annually, most book-signing tours, interviews and other such events cluttering her schedule. Potentially she just became less attentive or mistakenly lost focus on keeping her character consistent across Cherith and Kate’s writing and keeping her in-line with the character Vicky originally developed. Because In Dovewing’s Silence she’s actually a pretty mature, settled, grounded and selfless character, and seems to have found complacency in her life, and has a bright, optimistic perspective about her future in Thunderclan, and honestly blossoming with potential moving forward. Could explain why her character jumps around so much in OoTS. Of course pure speculation and no one will ever truly know. But as it stands. She had great potentially, but was miserably executed in how she’s written.

This thread keeps making me think, “Damn why didn’t Dovewing want Bumblestripe? He is such a loving and sweet dude.” Like its not a crime if she’s not interested, I just don’t get why anyone would pick Tigerheart over Bumblestripe lol. Because... she loves Tigerheart, and that's not really something she needs to explain? Idk, I'm just glad she's happy now. Yes I understand that concept. That’s why I said “it’s not a crime if she’s not interested”. I just personally think Bumblestripe as a character was better relationship material, and I’m not sure what it was about Tigerheart that she found more attractive. It’s just a musing, I’m not passing judgement on her for it.
