I didn’t expect it to come out this early but I’m not complaining! I hope we could see more of when Onestar joined Starclan in the end, perhaps?

Wow, so early, too!
It probably says alot about me when I'm more excited over relationship confirmations and name reveals than anything else lol! Overall, I think I'm going to enjoy this book. Pretty gray she-cat? Clearly Smoke. And Onestar's "How did things go so wrong?" Yeah, I wonder that too, buddy! Seriously though, the lack of self-awareness is almost hilarious.

Why did I think that Onestar was born in a separate litter from Morningflower and Ashfoot?

It’s a good book so far. I definitely see Onestar in a better light, I still dislike his treatment of Juniperclaw in A Light in the Mist though, it’s going to take a lot for me to forgive him, Skystar, Gray Wing, and Needletail for that.

Why did I think that Onestar was born in a separate litter from Morningflower and Ashfoot? Vicky originally said that they were from two different litters, if I recall correctly.

I wasn't expected it to come out this early, but I'm not complaining. At least my fears weren't realized. I was afraid that Shrewclaw, Palebird, Woollytail and Dawnstripe would be in the allegiances. Glad to see that isn't the case.
They kept Tallstar as Morningflower's mentor from SOTC. She's a tortoiseshell-and-white now. Ashfoot's mentor was Larksplash. We already knew that Onestar's mentor was Deadfoot since a few weeks ago. Wrenflight's littermates have warrior names! Rabbitear, Flytail and Bristlebark. Crowfur, Rushtail, Oatwhisker and Darkfoot being here are quite surprising being honest. Darktail was from Starlight and WOC. He's stated to be blue-gray just like WOC showed him as. Crowfur was an elder from FOS. Rushtail was an elder from TNP. Oatwhisker never even made a single physical appearance, only ever appearing in the allegiances of Dawn. I wonder who Sorrelshine's kits are. Hareflight, Redclaw, Hickorynose, Appledawn and Plumclaw are now elders.
Yep, Bluestar is still Runningwind's mentor. My headcanon of Redtail being Mousefur's mentor has come true! Willowpelt is officially still Darkstripe's mother. I wonder who the father was since Tawnyspots has been retconned. Poppydawn, Goosefeather, Fuzzypelt and Windflight being elders isn't surprising, since they were already listed as elders during BP. Seems Swiftbreeze and Adderfang became elders as well. The last two are Smallear and One-eye, who have already retired it seems. Sparrowpelt, Dappletail, Patchpelt and Rosetail are still warriors.
Rippleclaw mentored Mallowtail, Echomist mentored Mistystar, Sedgecreek mentored Dawnbright and Softwing mentored Stonefur. Crookedstar mentoring Stonefur has officially been retconned. Fallowtail is listed as an elder alongside Birdsong.
So Foxheart is already dead when this book takes place since Cloudpelt is already listed as deputy. Wolfstep and Deerfoot finally have descriptions! A gray tom and a light brown tom respectively. Deerleap and Lizardfang are listed as elders. I really do wonder what happened to them. No Littlebird, though.

Yikes. Once again Mudclaw shows how prideful and quick to battle he is. Especially his prejudice against innocent kittypets. This just reinforces Tallstar's decision lmao

Thoughts upon actually reading:
So I'm guessing Onestar is getting a trial of sorts? Like with what happened to Squirrelflight and Leafpool. Deadfoot actually seems like a pretty reasonable and competent deputy! I wish we got to see more of him. Wrenflight also seems nice. Mudclaw being a prideful jerk as always. Brushpaw and Tansypaw seem okay so far. I'm liking Bailey. That gray she-cat is obviously Smoke.
Overall I'm actually quite liking this SE so far. I hate Onestar but I'm interested in seeing how his character plays out.

I thought that scene was from chapter one, but it's from chapter two instead. That explains why Tansypaw wasn't in the allegiances. So her original name was Melody. I wouldn't be that surprised if she ends up going back to Twolegplace. She doesn't seem to like being an apprentice. The other cat is her brother Brushpaw, formally Leo. Their mother is named Bailey. We have never heard of any of these cats. Mudclaw is mentoring Brushpaw.
I love how Ashpaw is the only apprentice who decides not to go sneak off to Twolegplace. That pretty gray she-cat is most likely Smoke. Sounds like her.

So from what we got...where does this books placement be? Chapter one mentions it to be early newleaf. Tallstar, Crookedstar and Raggedstar are already leaders. Raggedstar's deputy is listed as Cloudpelt, so Foxheart is already dead. Stumpytail and Cinderfur are apprentices. Same with Runningwind, Mousefur, Dawnbright, Mallowtail, Mistystar, Stonefur, Onestar, Ashfoot and Morningflower.

I hope Tanseypaw or Brushpaw stay. Though I can see all of them leaving which solidifies Onestars thoughts on having Smoke and Darktail

The way the prologue is written is so interesting- the whole book appears to be Onestar going through his memories that led him up to his battle with Darktail and eventual death. Super Editions aren't typically formatted this way and I can't wait to see what the ending of the book will be like.

(which...Tallstar objectively couldn't have known at the time lol) or like you said, say that Mudclaw was "ruined" even though the scenes we've gotten so far just portray him as he's always been. Even before he became deputy, Mudclaw was rash, prideful, and predjudiced against non-Clan cats. I'm also really liking Deadfoot too. Shame we didn't get Deadstar, he probably would have been better than the other two contenders for next leader.

i think the Tansypaw and Bushpaw debacle makes for a really interesting backstory for why Onewhisker will later refuse to let Smoke join WindClan. they're also doing a good job setting up his prevalent interest and sympathy toward kittypets.
i wonder how this will end up effecting his friendship with Fireheart? or the other way around? i can imagine that Fireheart's success as a clan cat might have muddled his reasoning when it came to Smoke, and realized "too late" that she was more of a Tansypaw.

I do agree Mudclaw’s characterization so far is in character. Although I do hope they don’t deliberately skewer him sharply towards being a complete jackass, to blatantly force the narrative “that Onewhisker was the superior choice”. and give him some redeeming qualities, so readers aren’t, myself included, aren’t screaming out “WHY IN THE HELL DID YOU PICK MUDCLAW TO BEGIN WITH TALLSTAR!?. I mean he had to have some leadership qualities, and been assessed as a suitable candidate for leader at some point for Tallstar to appoint him deputy. i think tallstar picked him because of all the trouble windclan went through in arc one. they were constantly being picked on by the other clans and viewed as the weakest and easiest to push around, and tallstar only had so many hours to make his pick (only a few hours that would determine the future of all of windclan, basically) and he wanted to pick somebody fierce to bolster windclans reputation. the moonhigh code doesnt leave much time to really consider how this is going to affect the clan down the line, especially when you have to make that consideration for every warrior whos trained an apprentice in the clan. mudclaw also balanced out with tallstars kinder and more patient nature, but the journey to the lake showed tallstar that without him keeping an eye on mudclaw he had real potential to harm windclan (like almost getting them killed on the thunderpath because he didnt want to listen to crowpaw)

He still needs to be balanced out, if they deliberately portray him as a massive, insufferable jerk no one can stand, stamp him with Red flags, and blatantly paint him as a horrible choice, no questions asked type scenario. It’s going to make Tallstar’s decisions appear very buffoonish. And even with limitations on time to choose a deputy, Tallstar would still ideally pick someone that somewhat replicates or shares his values, leadership style etc. or at the very least have a demeanor, attitude and mannerisms that would compliment his own, fill in blank spots, bolster his weaknesses etc. and presuming Tallstar isn’t completely ignorant of the personalities, mannerisms of the cats he’d leading to at least some degree, he’d still be able to make a relatively educated decision on who’s the most suitable at the time, and be able to avoid those with “BAD” printed on them in bright red letters.
