"Precisely," Zazzy agreed, setting down her empty mug and turning to face Theta, sitting in a tight crisis-cross way and setting her hands in her lap. "For us, it is even less. Women bed their mates - and they leave in the morn. Friendship? No, that is too much to ask. This is how our government works best," She shrugged her dainty shoulders. "My mother barely knew my father. She knew his name, age, and how many children he bore to other females. Children spend a year with each parent in turn untill they age to one hundred and thirty, and then we are free to explore and search for a life mate on our own. I was never supposed to find a life mate, not with my Markings," she held out her hands - palms up so her scars were visible, but also the swirling, pulsing golden threads that moved over her skin with her pulse. Against her near-white skin, they glinted like real gold. "Technically, I was supposed to stay and breed for the new generation until I hit five hundred. Our folk are dying off. We are not producing quickly enough, so those with the Markings - about one out of a hundred - are chosen to breed. However, i would not be permitted to raise my children, so I left. Selfish, yes, but I don't think I can bear having so many of my offspring taken away." [Thats rather unfair... I've had 2 B's (One in freshman year and the other in Junior) and I'm still in??]

[[ eh, i mean, i could still apply xD ]]
"That is horrible," Theta frowned, sipping at their own tea. If they went back to Is'yop to have their own children, and there was a possibility of those children being take away... they didn't know what they would do. Would they bring them here to raise them? Maybe. Theta wasn't too sure, and they didn't mean to sound rude, but they weren't too sure if they would want their children to develop the personalities that human children did. Theta's people weren't exactly serious, but they were not as carefree and rebellious. They listened, and they were good students. Human children... not so much, unfortunately. They were delightful, but a bit too wild.

Zazzy waved her hand as the awfulness of the truth was revealed, dismissing the reality of it. She had grown knowing she would never find a life mate, so she grew to the idea of breeding. "My government is simply looking for the best of our race," she said, folding her legs and standing up, her wings shifting slightly to a more comfortable position. "Do you drink?" She asked Theta, implying alcohol. "If not, please help yourself," she said, gesturing towards the still-warm tea kettle. She padded into the spacious kitchen, then spread her wings and breezed her way onto the second level - a half-circle protruding from the wall, which was actually lined with shelves and bottle of different adult drinks from different cultures and planets. she landed on the edge of the circle with a gentle breeze from her dragon-fly wings.

"Hmm, it simply depends on what you have," Theta replied, watching her go, "nothing too strong. I would be lying if I said that my race does not have a problem ingesting alcoholic beverages." It was very true. Theta had been blackout drunk on multiple occasions simply due to ingesting the wrong kind of drink, or taking too much. Their human friends had taken them pub hopping, and the trip to the hospital and the search for a doctor that could cater to Is'y people had been quite fun. But, Theta had been told all of that. They remembered none of it.

[[ i have my eyes set on carnegie mellon after i graduate .-. ]]
Nolani rolled her eyes. "Of course you just want cute professors," she said before taking another large sip of her coffee, checking her watch, "I'm going to be late." The idea sent a jolt through her stomach, but she was hungry. This was the first food she'd had since like one in the morning when she'd been revising, and she was not going to give it up for another lecture. (really? nice!! i'm just looking at the honors college at the nearby state university, and a couple smaller liberal arts colleges far away. i'm intimidated by the idea of a really competitive college aha) "I told you about that T.A. I had for my Interstellar Relations class, right? His jawline was insane," mused Sage, eyes closed. He blinked them open when Nolani spoke again, and sat up a bit straighter in his seat. "Gonna head back, then?" he asked. "I know the school thing's important to you."

"Gonna head back, then?" he asked. "I know the school thing's important to you." [[ hey, that's good too! i may apply at an ivy league, but it depends on what i decide to do. i know i want to go into premed, but i'm wavering between psychiatry and neurology. ]]
"Oh yeah, I heard a lot about him," Nolani chuckled, shaking her head. Sage hadn't shut up about it for like six weeks. She'd never seen the guy herself, but he must've been gorgeous. As he asked, she pursed her lips, running a hand through her curls a few times before she shook her head, and sipped her coffee. "I'm going to try and take a page out of your book and show up a bit late. It's not the class I have the test in anyways."

[[ it's hard to chose xD i used to want to go into acting, but that's studying unemployment, so... ]]
"Damn right," Nolani replied, taking another, slower bite of her sandwich. She glanced at her phone. She was officially late for class. "Wow, this isn't that exciting," she said drily, sarcastically, "I was thinking the hand of God was gonna reach down from the ceiling and punch me in the head or something." She was kidding, she knew it was fine.

[[ it'll all turn out good. ]]
"Uh, xenochem, I think," she replied, waving around one of the chips that had come with the sandwich and then popping it into her mouth, "yeah, xenochem. I have no idea what I'm doing." Nolani was good at biology, but chemistry? Psychics? No way.

"It's just the application to other species," Nolani shrugged, finishing her coffee with a slurp, "but yeah, it's hard enough with people anyways. I never liked it in school. But if you wanna be my study buddy that's fine with me. Just be warned, I suck at it."

Sage gave a nod and took a final bite of his sandwich. "Mmf. Mhm. Well, whatever you want..." he said with a yawn. "More than anything, I just haven't spent extended amounts of time with anyone besides my coworkers, and that gets old real fast," he explained further. "So I wanna hang out with people that I choose to be around, y'know?" "I understand," Nolani shrugged, "we can hang out whenever you want, even if it's not studying. We haven't actually talked in awhile." It was sad; she missed him. They had always hung out when they were little kids, since they had grown up in the same sector of the colony, they had always been together.

"Yeah, I mean, but I already study a lot, so it's fine," she said, pausing to listen to him, "that sounds cool. When is it?" She pulled out her communicator, ready to punch in a date to see if she had anything on that day.

"No, that sounds fun, we should go and do that," Nolani nodded to herself, smiling ever so slightly.
