"Fancy seeing you here," Zazzy's cheerful, soft, musical voice practically glowed amongst the crowds general chatter. A few people had stopped and looked around in confusion, and a small human child was gaping at her, his tiny teeth shimmery in the light as he marveled at her wings. Her eyes, with their slim, snake-like pupils, were a pastel violet as she fluttered onto the ground, the soles of her shoes touching down silently. Her hair had half-way come undone from its straightening, leaving it in kinky waves that she had pulled into a thick braid over her shoulder. She had changed into a pair of skinny jeans and a casual tank top, hugging her curves in a modest kind of way. A bag was hooked over her shoulder, and a corner of a thick book was peeking out under the top flap. Lifting her hands around chest-height, she gave a friendly traditional Dansakie greeting - a curtsy with musical sparks drifting form her scarred palms. Once the sparks had faded, she sipped her hands into her pockets and grinned at Theta. Theta started. They were surprised that they hadn't noticed her, since multiple people seemed to be gawking. "Hello," they greeted, raising one hand with a smile as they turned towards her, "fancy seeing you here indeed." For a moment, Theta pondered if she was following them, but they decided against it. She was too nice. Like they had seen, her intentions were pure. "Did you get all of your shopping done?" What had she needed? Cat food, and she'd been going to look around, hadn't she? Yes, something like that. The work day had turned Theta's brain to coffee-needing mush, so they didn't quite recall.

(that's fine! maybe they were neighbors on the colony or something growing up?) "Oh...hey!" murmured Sage through a mouthful of sandwich. He laid his phone down on the table and waved. Finally swallowing his bite, he cleared his throat. "What's up?" [[ sure! ]]
"Nothing much," Nolani replied, breaking off to take a long, long sip of coffee, swallowing and then saying, "gotta finish this and get back to campus for classes in like twenty minutes. What's up with you?" She took a hulking bite of her sandwich, swallowing a bit painfully and then taking another bite. She couldn't be late again, or someone was gonna get pissed off, and by someone she meant her professor.

Zazzy's laughter was music to the bystanders ears - several of them turned to look, and the young boy giggled and waved bye bye as his mother carried him off. "Sparkly!" He giggled, pointing at her wings and reaching out with a pudgy hand. Zazzy's eyes flicked towards him and she subtly spread her wing a little more, letting him smooth one of his hands over the glass-like, warm surface. His face filled with wonder before he was finally too far to reach. "Bye bye pretty fairy!" He giggled, clinging onto his mother who was oblivious to what just happened. Zazzy turned a little and waved, making a silly face for the boy and sending a few musical sparks to tickle his cheeks before turning back to Theta. "Sorry to startle you," She said apologetically, letting her wings fold smoothly against her back. "I was just headed home to drop off the cat food when I saw you down here. And yes, I got everything done," she did indeed have a reusable, green bag hooked on her other arm, the corner of a bag of cat food poking out.

Theta smiled at the boy, watching him wave. Kids were cute. Theta had never thought about if they wanted any, but maybe someday, when they were back home. They'd had a partner for awhile, but they'd thought best to break it of when Theta had found out that they'd be moving to a different side of the system. "That is good! Should I allow you to get going? I would not want your cat to go hungry," they said with a small, apologetic smile, "I know that mine gets quite angry when he's not fed."
[[ blah, crappy reply. ]]

"You can come with me if you'd like," Zazzy offered cheerfully. For the Dansakie, inviting someone into your home is a show of friendship. one were sacred to them, as they prefered to surround themselves with visual memories and music at all times, and since each family had different tastes, it was a bit rare. The fact Zazzy held out this offer was a show of developing friendship. "Bea is more than a little hissy fit, I promise," She said with another smile, this one a little quirkier than the last. The first time the two had met, Bea was indeed grouchy, but that may have been from nerves.

Theta chuckled, considering. They saw no reason as to why they shouldn't accept her offer, so they nodded and said cheerfully, "Of course, I can come over for a couple of hours." They didn't have work tomorrow. It was someone else's job to watch the struggling interns for once, and Theta had never been more glad to be missing a day of their job in their life. "Lead the way."

Zazzy dipped her head before touching two fingers to Thetas temple, having to reach up to press her pointer and middle finger against his head. She left them there for a moment before pulling away, a few tiny sparking leaving ehr finger tips. "That'll help you keep up if you get lost in the crowd," she said, nodding towards the thickening rush of people. "The high note means turn right, the lower note means turn left. You probably won't loose me, but it's just a tradition of my people," She grinned and turned on her heel, gracefully slinking down the walkway. After a short while of pleasant chatter with Theta about nothing and everything, they approached the large gates of the elite housing docks. Fishing through her bag, she pulled out an access card and waved it over the scanner. "Access granted - level ten, dock thirteen. Welcome home, Miss D'Claire." Said a robotic voice, and the gates swung open.Another five minutes of walking, Zazzy stopped by a dock with a simple two-story ship with "Messa" painted in bold, elegant font across the side in dark blue. Soon, Zazzy had welcome Theta into a beautifully decorated sitting room. The furniture was all curves and no sharp, a soft gray-blue against the white carpets and golden decor against the walls. Bea immediatly bounded up to Theta and purred fiercely, rubbing against their legs. Zazzy laughed at this, and the musical sound triggered her favorite, waltz-like music to flow from hidden speaker for background noise as she set the bags on the island counter in the connected kitchen. "This is Messa, my Zipline216," She said proudly, sweeping her arm in a playfully dramatic welcome before opening the cat food and scooping some into a little bowl from Bea, placing it on a soft little carpet. Bea bounded over and brushed against Zazzy's hand before choking down.

"Nice," Theta breathed as they reached down to pat the little cat's head, standing back up as she bounded away to eat. They'd never seen some place this clean in his life. Their people did not value cleanly living spaces, for one thing. Theta's own apartment was covered from top to bottom in books, papers, discarded clothes, more books, and then more papers, not to mention picked apart electronics that they'd never bothered to clean up. "It is very nice, in fact. May I sit?" They didn't really wait for an answer, slinking to one of the chairs and sitting down carefully, crossing their legs and folding their hands in their lap. The waltz tune was calming, and they bobbed one of their feet softly along to it.

"My home is your home," Zazzy tossed a smile over at him as she stood at a curving porcelain sink, letting the water wash soap suds off her hands before she held them under a drying unit, which used one short, scalding burst to dry her hands. Zazzy didn't blink at the heat, barely even noticed it. She put some water into a graceful tea kettle, setting it over a floating burner to boil as she pulled down an assortment of dried herbs and petals. Clearly, this was a typical Dansakie tradition - personalized tea. "My mother left me Messa after she passed away a five years ago. She always wanted me to travel, so why not make it into a place I can do so comfortably?" She carefully measured a few different herbs into the kettle - a few being strange colors. One of them was a pastel blue petal, curled like loose cinnamon. Another was a pinkish purple, but a much brighter tone. With each addition came a unique scent - fresh fruits, the calm before a storm, a deep earthy scent that filled the home like tangible colors. She let the leaves set in the kettle, taking down A few tea mugs and a little, capped bowl. She set those three items on a tray and carried them over to the round coffee table, setting them down before perching next to Theta, relaxing her wings and leaning against the back of the arching couch. Bea leapt through the air and landed on Zazzy's lap, meowing for attention untill Zazzy vigriously rubbed all over the kittens head and back. "There are two common rules for this household though," She said, turning to face Theta with a serious face. "The most important... Don't leave your shoes by the table if you want to take them off," Her serious expression melted like butter, replaced by a teasing smile. "Second, f Bea come, you pet her. She will attack your hand if you don't. Other than that, you're more than welcome to explore my ship, or I can show you around."

"I am sorry about your mother," Theta said, craning their neck to watch her as she made tea. Their biological mother figure had passed away awhile ago as well, but the person that their other parent had wedded was very kind. Theta missed them when they weren't at home, but they tried to call them at least once or twice a week, if not more when they just needed to talk. They chuckled at her rules, and then carefully got, heading to the door to take their shoes off there before beginning to take a little lap around the kitchen and main room of the ship. "This is much cleaner than my house," they hummed, chuckling after a moment with a, "I need to clean, in fact."

"I rather enjoy cleaning. I always have, even when I was young, a small child," Zazzy grinned, standing from her perch and drifting over towards Theta, brushing past their shoulder with a friendly tap from her hand. Bea pitter-pattered after Zazzy, a little bell on her collar jingling merrily as she leapt onto a small stand, pawing at Thetas hand with a loud purr before leaping onto their shoulder, nuzzling their cheek. Zazzy looked back and smiled at the sight, laughing softly before walking back into the kitchen, taking the kettle off of the hovering stove. She carried it carefully back into the sitting room, placing it down on the tray after pouring each of them a cup. "This is our form of sugar - it translates into 'nectar' in this language," She explained, pulling the lid of the small bowl up and placing it on the tray. Inside was a thin liquid that looked like water, but smelled sweet. A small spoon rested besides it. "We don't have much of a sweet tooth, so use as much as you need," she said, gesturing towards the tray.

Theta chuckled, that deep and merry sound rising in the back of their throat again as they reached up to pat at Bea a little. Well, to the best of their abilities. It was hard to reach for a cat when she was nearly climbing down your back. "Well, on the contrary, my species does have quite the sweet tooth," Theta replied, carefully walking back through the kitchens and into the sitting room with Bea balanced on their shoulders, taking a seat in one of the many chairs, "and we like tea. A lot of my human friends poke fun at me for it. They say I sound, ah, what is it? English? Yes, they say I sound English when I speak in Earth languages." Apparently, they did not when they spoke their own tongue.

Zazzy laughed at Thetas remarks, her lilac-lavender eyes fading into a pastel violet a the golden markings along her skin smirked with her calm heart beat, gleaming as the light angled onto her from the window. "Well, I can't deny that you do sound proper, but that comes with learning a new language, does it not?" She tossed a smile over her shoulder at them, before turning back from the kitchen and walking over, her wings lax behind her, laying neatly into the curves of her slender back. "Use at much as the sweetener you'd like, I never use it myself," She offered, perching back next to him on the couch, close enough for their shoulders to brush. This was, of course, a habit for her - the Dansakie were very tightly woven together, and physical touch was one of the ways they showed it. However, Zazzy knew that Theta would have his mind scrambled if she allowed her full thoughts through - she she purposefully blacked out and blocked the musical aspect of her mind to him, allowing basic thoughts and emotions through. She was very open, which was a bit unusual for a newcomer in this part of the Galaxy.

"I suppose so," Theta shrugged, "but I also suppose that I was simply taught to speak properly during my childhood. My species doesn't have... Oh, what do you call them? Words like couldn't, can't and won't? Those things, wherein they stick two words together." They shrugged with an awkward smile, eyes crinkling up as they reached for the nectar and put a sizable portion into the tea.

"That is admirable," Zazzy said thoughtfully, sipping her tea silently and letting the near-boiling liquid wash over her tongue, enjoying the intense bitter flavor. "At home, our youth do not learn to speak aloud until they are in their early thirties - I myself didn't learn until I was forty, and I here I am, a hundred and three years later, still struggling with common language." She smiled downwards, setting her casual mug back on the coffee table. "The youth do not learn those words either, but as we grow older, our natural tendency is to combine the notes together. For instance - when I was younger and far more foolish, I used twelve to fifteen Címas - which translates to 'chimes' in this language, but actually means 'words' - to describe that this mug is white," he gestured towards the mug in Thetas hand, "And now, I use nine to twelve. We do not understand why, but it is there, so we accept it as is, no questions asked." She struggled to display the affection for her culture that she felt - it was simple at home, with an easy laugh and several musical sparks from the scars on their hands.

"Hm," Theta said simply, and then added, "I am going on two hundred and... Three? Yes, three. My species does not really bother with age until they get up there in years. We live to be up it a thousand years old, maybe two thousand if you are in good health." And poor humans, they only lived for up to one hundred, maybe more if they were lucky. From Theta's understanding it was steadily increasing though. At one point the expectancy had been eighty, and was now one hundred, and was only climbing. That was good.

Zazzy turned to look at Theta in surprise. "Humans only have a century? Really? My..." She looked own as Bea hopped into her lap, putting tiny paws on her stomach and stretching up to try to catch more attention. Once her ears were being scratched with long, glossy black nails, she purred happily and batted at the fingers they petted her playfully. Zazzy thought about the life span of humans. They were so short! How did they get anything done? "Strange things, genetics are," Zazzy said a bit more quietly, running her hand along the kitten back. "You have a thousand years of life - I have roughly nine hundred. Strange thought," She let it breeze off her shoulders for now, looking up at the Daily News automatically turned on. The screen was inlaid into the wall, flickering on to a crystal-clear image of the news.

[[ sorry for the disappearance! i was driving back home. ]]
"Yes, very strange indeed," Theta said, their eyes flickering up to the screen as it kicked to life. They leaned back ever so slightly in the chair, blinking up at the news as the anchor came on and began to relay the big events. They sighed out their nose at yet another report of a hijacked ship, now missing somewhere in the cosmos, probably never to be seen again. "Awful, is is not? Those pirates, I mean. It has been happening more often too." Theta had never been hijacked in all of their travels, but they knew people who had, well, had known. Not many people survived it. Losing a boat at sea or a plane in the atmosphere was one thing, but an entire vessel in space, normally disabled? No, that was never good.

"It is tragic," Zazzy said quietly, watching the news herself. She leaned back against the couch, letting the back of her head rest on the headrest as she watched. "To have one's home taken right before them. It is heart breaking." Something about the tone in her musical voice, maybe a dip in the scale, hintied that she knew more about loss and heart break than she would like to admit. Her eyes had also shifted to a deep, thick wine purple, her pupils barely visible against the darkness.

Theta glanced at her with a minuscule frown, but they refrained from saying anything at the moment, sipping at their tea. "This nectar is quite good," they remarked after a moment, sipping again and then saying, "I have never had anything quite like it in my lifetime." Were they trying to change the subject? Well, yes, maybe just a bit.

She couldn't be late again, or someone was gonna get pissed off, and by someone she meant her professor. Sage sighed through his mouth, lips fluttering. "Well, I'm on my lunch break too," he said and took a drink of soda from his cup. "Gotta go back soon and, like...cart some office mail around, or something. It can wait, y'know." He took another bite, and grinned. "You've always studied hard. Maybe you should ditch a couple times before you graduate."

"That's uh, that's not gonna happen," Nolani chuckled, shaking her head. That was Sage's thing. He'd gotten her to go with him like... once, but it had only driven her into an anxiety attack, and she'd run back to school. Granted, that was in middle school, but she was pretty sure that the whole thing had actually scarred her for life. "Maybe you should try going to class for once, buddy," she chuckled after a moment, in between wolfing down more of her sandwich of course. In between having not eaten since six in the morning and needing to leave in like four minutes, she was a bit rushed.

*Sits down at my keyboard with rat nest hair, twelve empty mugs that previously held coffee, and bags under my eyes* Cons: I haven't slept in 35 hours, I only got a c on my essay. Pros: I've deep cleaned my entire apartment, and I was accepted into Harvard.
Zazzy grinned, the slightly off-put in her aura fading away, her eyes lightening back to a pastel violet. "We have a plant similar to the sugar cane, except it's healthier. We actually consider it a health food," She paused, and then her grined turned a little playful. "Think of it as a liquid, sweet vegetable." She laughed a little, taking a sip of her bitter tea that smelled like the first ten minutes after a rainstorm. The news anchor turned over to a happier headline - an authority member of the community was giving his daughter to a kind-looking man, who looked overjoyed as he saw the beautiful young woman in the white dress. "I never quite understood marriages," Zazzy said thoughtfully, "What is it besides a piece of signed stationary?"

"Hm, I do not really know," Theta mused with a shrug, "my people do not take marriage all that, seriously; I suppose, and somehow that offends the humans. They hold it as a sacred bond, tying two people together forever in love. My people simply do not care about that. Not that we do not feel love, but it is not so important." Theta was careful with their words as they explained, or tried to be. They ended up making people angry quite a lot when explaining their species' concept of marriage.

"Alright, yeah, okay. But c'mon. I'm part-time now, anyway," Sage said, waving off the notion with his hand. "Between work and my own xenobio studies, I don't even need school to keep me busy anymore." He slouched in his seat and looked up at the sky, fingers folding together against his stomach. "Maybe if my professors were cuter, I'd go to class and pay attention more. Y'know? Someone should start an initiative."

Zazzy shook her head. She didn't seem fazed by his words in the least, "I do not understand why humans throw such a fuss over marriage, and different traditions," She said, shrugging. "My people do not fall in love," she said, "We, the females, choose bed mates that have the best chance at providing us with offspring. Love is simply a fantasy for us. Of course, some claim to feel it for their chosen bed mates, but that is impossible. It is called the Darkness of the Dansakie. 'We speak with the language of love, but cannot express it.'" She quoted casually. She clearly thought nothing of it, and actually believed that finding a life mate to bear children with was all there was. "Of course, mothers and fathers love their offspring, but the concept of love between between mother and father is simply a burden. How is one to raise a child when feelings for another get in the way?"

"Exactly!" Theta exclaimed, "I want children; I love them in fact, but I could care less about my partner emotionally. To humans, that seems to sound quite cold, but it is just... what it is." They shrugged, folding their hands into their lap with a little half frown. They'd lost friends due to these sentiments before, and they couldn't have been more than pleased that Zazzy felt the same. "For us, friendship is much more important than love. To call someone my friend would be... more than when a human says they love their husband or wife."
