Blushingrose Camp - - - - - Sinking into a somber silence, she twitched her tail as she reminisced about the ole days. Peeking at Hummingfrost's stifled expression, she knew she wasn't the only one that had dark days in their past nor the unknown ones that they would face within the future. They all had demons that they had to face and somehow learn to overcome. "We are bit of mess," she muttered under her breath with a gentle, almost humorous laugh.
Blushingrose shifted slightly so that her fur was pressing against Hummingfrost's warm fur. She would always enjoy the warmth and comfort of her friend. Her blue gaze flickered to her friend and she let out a soft sigh, "I am sure Mossypaw has enough sense not to get into too much trouble," she reassured as she gently bumped her shoulder against hers. She let out a soft purr before giving Hummingfrost a serious look, "If you want to check on him, just do it," Blushingrose meowed with a firm tone, "No matter what Mossypaw thinks about it, you are his mother and we both know how much you love him." Mossypaw didn't understand how lucky he was to have a caring parent, she knew her friend would do anything in her power to ensure that her sons were healthy and happy.

Bravepaw With Mossypaw and Applepaw [ 𝑓𝑜𝑥 & ✨ nissabug ✨ ] Camp - - - - - The silver tabby resisted the urge to let out a sigh at Mossypaw's sidelong glance. He shouldn't make jokes or references to their clanmates being deceased. It was't good taste... and Applepaw was a little naive. She would believe his words for a short while. Bravepaw sent her a small, apologetic smile. His brother was insufferable.
Bravepaw smirked at the expression that came over his brother's face. "No, I am the superior one," he retorted with a soft purr, "That fight proved it!" His amber gaze bright with mirth, knowing that losing would drive Mossypaw crazy. Hopefully with the weather would die down soon and their mentors would take them out to train once more. Friendly competition was an all time favorite of Bravepaw's. He shot Applepaw an amused look, "I always fight fair," he pointed out. He was a honorable feline.

Dimheart
If the scent was fresh then perhaps Dimheart would have had Spottedfire or Nightsky go after the chipmunk, but with it being stale and already hard to follow even now the silver tabby thought it a dumb decision to directly follow, if it even could be followed. Even if it was the only sign of prey they would get on this entire patrol Dimheart thought it better to keep the patrol together rather than risk one of her Clanmates on what very well could be a wild goose chase. She was determined to make a good impression on Grizzlystar, but bringing back prey at the cost of a warrior’s life left a tang in her mouth she would much rather avoid.
It didn’t take the female long to come to a decision. ”It’s stale, so we won’t risk ourselves by tracking it. If we happen to be on the same trail as it, though, then consider ourselves lucky and the chipmunk not so much; however, if one animal has been out in this storm, it means others have as well. We’ll get our chance at prey yet.” Dimheart signaled with her tail once more for the two to continue on with her. The winds were starting to die down somewhat thanks to the shield of trees above them, but it didn’t stop a good portion of the treacherous weather from making itself known. Dimheart fluffed out her thin fur as best she could. While she would never doubt her leader’s commands, she only hoped there would be prey at the end of all this.
Bullheart
Never in all of his wildest dreams had he thought he’d be contemplating making Grizzlystar step down as leader. He had always thought of himself as loyal to the tomcat that had led the Clan for seasons upon season. Stepping out of line had never been in Bullheart’s agenda, but now things were different. Times were changing and so were his thoughts. When he had made that vow as an apprentice graduating to a warrior to protect his Clan no matter what he had meant it, and maybe this was the deeper meaning behind those words. To serve and to protect his Clan was what he had always wanted, and maybe, sometimes, to do that he had to take drastic measures that only the bravest of warriors would take.
This way of thinking was going against everything he had once stood for, but he truly believed this was the right thing to do. For the sake of his Clanmates, Bullheart was so sure that change needed to happen. Even in this already tumultuous time, something had to be done. If nothing happened now, then how many more lives would be at stake? How many more lives would be lost?
Frostdeer’s question echoed in his ears, soft and gentle unlike the raging wind from outside. He shook his head in response. ”No, Frostdeer, what we need is a leader with a right head on his shoulders. I’m thinking it’s about time for Grizzlystar to step down and give leadership over to a cat who can actually keep our Clan safe. What do you think?” He turned to look at his mate, gaze unwavering and steady. He wanted to hear what the queen had to say, her thoughts were just as important to him as his own. Bullheart was concocting up an ambitious plan, but even he knew that to enact such a rebellion, he needed supporters, and what better place to start than with his mate?
Hummingfrost
”We are bit of a mess.”
The words were almost lost to Hummingfrost, but her ears had been able to pick up on them if only barely. Rather than sink into some sort of dark hole where everything that had gone wrong in her life took over, she managed a laugh, her whiskers twitching with the amusement dancing through her. It seemed only Blushingrose could really draw her out of her worries as quickly as she could. Honestly, without Blushingrose, Hummingfrost wasn’t exactly sure where she would be at this point in her life. Perhaps she would be in the same place as she was now, living her dream as a permanent queen and a mother, but would she feel as complete as she did? If not for Blushingrose the tabby was sure a part of her would be missing, and she was sure that missing piece would make her feel as hollow as a dead tree.
Blushingrose was right, as she usually was. Mossypaw had enough sense in him to not truly get into danger, and if for some reason he did get his paws into trouble then, well, she had to believe that he’d be able to get himself out like the capable warrior she knew her son could be. That he was. Before she knew it he would be a warrior, and as much as the queen worried about her son, she knew he’d make the Clan proud. He had already made her proud more times than she could count. It would be no different with the Clan.
Thanks to her best friend’s words, Hummingfrost was feeling better about all of this. She was about to go and check on her sons when she spotted them not too far off in camp, and with them was young Applepaw. They seemed to be enjoying themselves, and even if they were a bit rowdy - what young cat wouldn’t be after being cooped up for so long? - nothing seemed to be out of place.
The queen sat back down. ”On second thought, they seem just fine,” she purred gently. She knew she would end up actually checking in on them at some point today, but for now she didn’t want to step in and ruin their fun. As long as her sons were safe in camp then she was content.

Coldfeather / Mossypaw 𝑓𝑜𝑥 / Bravepaw Blaze ♡ / Applepaw ✨ nissabug ✨
A commotion near the fresh-kill pile broke Coldfeather's pacing. She realised all her calculating regarding the departed patrols was useless for the time being. It had no outlet and would do nothing but make her idle. Coldfeather hated to be idle. Investigating the slight ruckus, she saw the teasing of three apprentices, and, with little surprise, her own amongst them. Those poor young ones, she thought to herself. If I'm nearly going mad out of my boredom, they must be about to tear the camp apart out of theirs.
The practical she-cat strode sternly over to them. The grey warrior was sure there was a way she could both keep them from becoming too rambunctious, while at the same time generating their pent up energy into something productive. With mock severity, she scolded, "I couldn't help but overhear a terrible amount of bragging from over here," she shot Mossypaw a sly grin before questioning them, "How would you all like to get a little training in...so long as we do it quietly." The she-cat wasn't normally overly playful, but she could bend her social side to interest younger clan members. If she could lead the apprentices to a quieter corner of camp, they just might get away with some fighting techniques. Battle strategy was Coldfeather's expertise, and she had a perfect idea to test Applepaw and the confident siblings. "Now, which of you is truly the best fighter?"

Applepaw
Applepaw purred and gave Bravepaw a gentle nudge with her shoulder. “I know you do.” Now Mossypaw, on the other hand, she wasn’t so sure about.
At the sound of Coldfeather’s voice, her head flipped around in her direction, and she moved to stand. It wasn’t even her mentor, but she felt you should respect every warrior, especially the ones teaching apprentices. “Good morning, Coldfeather!” she mewed. With the suggestion of training her fluffy tail curled up. She had only been awake for a few minutes and she was already so bored this morning! Not to mention the whole time they’ve spent cooped up in the camp before.
Applepaw glanced over at the two brothers. “Well, according to last time, Bravepaw is,” she said with a playful smile.

Frostdeer / Bullheart Feathertalon
Bullheart's words washed over her like they were figurative, an fantastical wish. Frostdeer needed to control her delicate, expressive features from betraying too much of her reactions as she internalised his meaning. At least she didn't need to guess anymore, her candid mate had trusted in her as he always did, and, she prayed, always would. Frostdeer peered at him with an even gaze she had only acquired through raising a kit who never failed to surprise her. Grizzlystar stepping down? It was hard for her to even comprehend such a thing as being possible. But, always an idealist in the best and worst of times, it didn't take the queen long to picture the benefits of his proposal. Disregarding the complications of the Code, of StarClan's chosen leader, of a warrior's vow, she found herself trusting Bullheart with every piece of her self. Her support was unconditional toward him, but now she did understand his suggestion, and knew the not dishonourable tom would never have thought so hard upon it unless he knew what such an event could mean.
She finally mewed, "I think you hold more understanding for our clan than anyone else right now." She thought of Sunhawk, how he could have been one of the cats on the patrols, the patrols that were practically daring StarClan to take their young warriors from them. Grizzlystar was the obvious cause for this, the only cause for this. Leaders held absolute power at times like this, especially without a deputy, and Grizzlystar was not suited. Frostdeer was rapidly beginning to piece things together, to follow Bullheart's line of thought. Without even asking, she had a deep feeling if Grizzlystar were to step down, it was Bullheart who must take up his place. It was the only course that made sense.
Her dreaming was severed by the only worry that could mar her full support and urging of his idea. "I believe this is the only path the clan can take. But, Bullheart," her leafy sight flickered with anxiety and severity, "If you intend to take any risks that could hurt you or take you away from me, I will never forgive you." She meant getting killed, as she feared could happen if he committed himself too fully. With her mind spoken, she felt satisfied that she had taken his brooded upon suggestion to her and dreamed it up into a full reality in her own mind.

Mossypaw wasn't hard to get worked up when his ego was at stake. Add his mentor to the mix, and, well, it was enough to nearly push the tom over the edge. He was on his paws now, grey coat fluffed out all around him and making his already large frame appear to grow. His lip curled up when he saw Bravepaw's smirk, not amused that his brother clearly found this funny. "Superior 'cause you won one fight?" Mossypaw mocked, staring at Bravepaw with narrow jade eyes.
His gaze shifted sideways to land on Coldfeather as she approached and his claws flexed against the cave floor. He didn't exactly feel like he had something to prove to his mentor, but with his ego as inflated as it was he would prefer she think highly of him. He shot a glare towards Applepaw for her taunt in front of the growing ensemble and spat on the ground in front of him before his face screwed up into a determined expression. "If Bravepaw thinks he's so good, why don't we see just how far fighting fair gets him?" Mossypaw chided, sneering at his brother but keeping his focus on Coldfeather in his peripheral.

Bullheart
It wasn’t surprising to hear his mate agreeing with his words, but it was still a reassurance to the tom as such. He had one cat on his side, and he was sure there would be more to follow alongside him in the coming days. He knew he couldn’t strike now, but he also knew he couldn’t wait much longer. If he wanted to save his Clan from anymore untimely deaths then he needed to act soon. Bullheart would like a bit more time to test the waters and see how much support he could gather, but he wasn’t allotted such time and he had to do what he could with what he had.
While still serious about this all, Bullheart couldn’t help but lean forward with a purr as he nudged Frostdeer ever so gently. ”You don’t have to worry about losing me. If all goes well no cat will be hurt, and no more lives will be lost.” At most there would be pride that was hurt, but it wouldn’t be his own. It would be Grizzlystar’s. After all, Bullheart could only imagine how scarred pride would be after being forced to step down by the Clan he once led.

Softelm was clearly a dreamer as shown with her fasination in exploring and finding something that didn't exist. She was glad the she and Swallorfur were friends, otherwise she would get lonely with doing everything by herself. "What do you say?" She asked.

Raccoonpaw / Juniperpaw Starchaser
Rising late from the apprentice's den, the scruffy black tabby tumbled into the camp's clearing. Quickly, she dashed into a shadow to make a futile attempt at grooming down her fluffy fur before observing what she had regretfully already missed of the day. Bravepaw, Mossypaw, and Applepaw were all together, and Coldfeather was with them. She rolled her eyes and disregarded them. She didn't much feel like joining a group of three other apprentices, even if it meant attention from a mentor. Too much competition. Spotting Juniperpaw by herself, the mischievous she-cat bounced over and greeted her by rattling away. "Looks like your brothers are getting all the attention today," she sassed. "Unfair. First Fawnspirit gets to go on hunting patrol without me, and now I have to watch them jostle each other? If you ask me, we should find something even better to show them up," she of course hadn't a clue in her head of what she spoke, but tilted her head to see how Juniperpaw was receiving her to begin with.

Frostdeer / Bullheart Feathertalon
Bullheart's show of affection toward her took a little longer than it normally would have to soften Frostdeer's rare stern state. "I don't have to worry," she meowed seriously, "But I will. At least until you've succeeded. Fully." Considering the second half of his assurance towards her, she wrinkled her nose in distaste. "Promise me you'll not put anyone else's life before your own, or Sunhawk's." It was a selfish request, but Frostdeer was in the end only gravely concerned with her family. What's more, she always had a terrible worry that Bullheart, who was so much more noble than her, would lay down his reputation or his life to try and spare those of his clanmates. She knew they were starving, but unless he was secure believing in his ability to truly execute his attempt, she would rather he layed low until he had all the support he needed.
Thoughtfully, Frostdeer questioned whether there was anything she could do to greaten the certainty of Bullheart's valiant plan. "Will you speak to Sunhawk? Or... no. Perhaps leave him out of this. I don't know what's best. What can I do to help you my love?" Bullheart's passion for this issue was greater than any she had seen before, and so, uncharacteristically, she wanted to step away from her daydreaming and lend a paw in his favour.

[just so ya know she'll try to stir mischief but feel free to have Juniper / Hound shut her down lol] Raccoonpaw / Juniperpaw Starchaser
Raccoonpaw was intrigued by Juniperpaw's attitude toward her brothers. The black striped apprentice didn't have any siblings, which was all the better in her mind. If she did, she wouldn't be able to stand aside so calmly and allow them to be taking more notice than herself. "Well..." the stout she-cat pondered her denmate's openness carefully. Raccoonpaw decided she'd test it, and if Juniperpaw didn't bite, then it was all the more recognition for herself. "Last evening I was sitting close to the camp entrance, and I promise on StarClan, I could scent a little mouse. I bet we can snag it before anyone even knows we've left, then they'll feel sorry for not sending us on those hunting patrols!" She announced triumphantly. Eager to convince, she added, "The scent was close. I'm sure it was right next to the entrance, really." Raccoonpaw's buggy eyes flashed with excitement as she hung on Juniperpaw's reaction.

[That all makes sense, sounds like Raccoonpaw's attention seeking brings out a little bit of Juniperpaw's wish for attention as well then!]
Raccoonpaw / Juniperpaw Starchaser
The scruffy tabby's face drooped as Juniperpaw considered, and leant toward the negative. Althoguh Raccoonpaw expected this from her far more obedient denmate, it didn't make it any easier to accept. Before Juniperpaw could even say no, the younger apprentice began to turn away and prove that she would indeed do it on her own. Then, the miracle of Juniperpaw's agreement reached her ears. Whipping around, Raccoonpaw's wild eyes returned straight back to their foxlike gleam. "And if those patrols don't come back with anything, we'll be the clan's only hope," she added, thinking highly of herself already.
"Of course we'll be careful. The last thing I want to do is freeze all four paws off for some mouse. Even if I am hungrier than a bear after winter!" Raccoonpaw made herself small, condensing her stout limbs and pacing her way slowly, nonchalantly, toward the camp entrance, not entirely in a straight line, but at a steady enough pace. "If we keep looking as if we're just chatting, we'll slip out and back in with no hassle." She looked to Juniperpaw to confirm the older apprentice hadn't simply been bluffing.

Houndshadow
The cold was starting to get to him.
He could feel it creeping in through his pelt, and rather than shiver and shake, he could feel his joints beginning to creak and ache. Age was starting to catch up to him, and the cold was making that all too clear, but the black tomcat still had some seasons left in him. He was a senior warrior, that much was a known fact, but he wasn't quite ready to throw in the towel just yet. He still had the strength and stamina to give to his Clan as a warrior, and so long as he could provide and provide well, he was going to stay out of the elders' den. Besides, he had an apprentice to train. Houndshadow would never dare consider retirement until Juniperpaw was a full fledged warrior of MountainClan.
Speaking of his apprentice...
Houndshadow cast his pale green gaze around camp. They couldn't exactly do any extensive training, not with the weather conditions that roared on outside, but if the aging tom could guess, any apprentice would be bored cooped up inside camp for so long. Even his own paws itched to get out and do something, but he knew it to be too dangerous to go out there. Only by orders of Grizzlystar would he step paw outside of camp, and as of right now he was stationed in camp until further notice. That didn't mean he couldn't at least check in on Juniperpaw. Perhaps they could find an empty spot in camp to go over hunting techniques or some light battle training. Maybe he could test her memorization on how to effectively navigate dangerous terrain that any MountainClanner could and would face when outside of camp.
Luckily it wasn't long until Houndshadow spotted the familiar figure of his apprentice, and Raccoonpaw to tag along. A warm glint of welcome shone in the tom's pale gaze, yet there was a faint look of knowing in them as well as he quite quickly figured out the plans the two had. "And where might we be headed?" Houndshadow asked, voice level yet clear even against the wind. Bullheart
Bullheart felt his jaw tighten as he heard his mate's words. She was asking him to make a promise he wasn't sure he could entirely keep, one that he could vow to stay true to only half way. He wouldn't risk their son's life for any reason. Even if StarClan themselves came down to earth and told him to sacrifice his son, Bullheart would never. As for his own life...well, that was a different story. Death did not scare Bullheart; it was something he knew a lot of over the course of his life. Living out here was hard, and even when the sun was out and all was merry death very well lurked in the shadows. He had known from a very early age that every patrol could very well be his last, and every breath he took could also be the last. Being a warrior was a fine line of life or death, and if he had to pick his death for the greater good of the Clan he very well would. Frostdeer should know that. She did know that. That was why she was making him promise not to sacrifice himself for this. And yet...
The ginger tomcat let out a slow sigh, the air around him turning wispy. "I can promise you that Sunhawk will be kept out of harm's way throughout all of this," he started, hoping Frostdeer would understand that he wasn't above putting his life on the line for this. He had promised to serve his Clan with his life, and even if he was going against his leader he wasn't going to stop serving the rest of his promises.
These thoughts were pushed to the back of his mind for now when he heard Frostdeer speak up with more questions. He couldn't help but smile, glad that, if anything, the molly was on his side. He knew she would be. "I do think I should mention this to Sunhawk at some point. I need supporters, and surely he shares the same thoughts." If Sunhawk didn't then that was okay, but Bullheart was hoping his son would see the truth to his father's words. "Could you perhaps try and bring it up to Hummingfrost at some point?" He then asked, wondering if Frostdeer could get the other gentle molly in on this as well. Hummingfrost wasn't a fighter, but surely the most nurturing and life-protecting cats standing beside him would give him some impact when going against Grizzlystar. Swallowfur
It didn't take much to spike the tomcat's curiosity, that was for sure. As soon as Softelm mentioned exploring the cave Swallowfur was all in, and the prospect of finding something exciting made his paws itch to get going.
"Let's do it!" He exclaimed, thick fur puffing out to make his already bulky frame look even larger than it really was. He wasted no time as he bounded forward, ready to take off into the depths of the cave. Swallowfur thought ahead just far enough to pause in his steps, looking over his shoulder to see if Softelm and Chickadeewing were following. He knew Softelm would be right behind him, but it was his littermate he was worried wouldn't tag along.

Chichadeewing heaved a sigh at her brother's long-winded explanation of how he could take care of himself. Yes, she had heard it many times before, yes, her brother always had good points, and she knew that they were warriors now, but none of this would ever stop her from worrying about her littermate. She knew she could be overbearing but she couldn't help it.
"Oh, Swallowfur, I know, I just..." She began on another concerned rant, although she trailed off as Softelm approached. Chickadeewing greeted the she-cat with a small nod and a warm smile. Listening politely as Softelm and her brother conversed, the she-cat let out a light purr of amusement as they discussed the season. She resonated with Softelm's desire for Greenleaf. Chickadeewing longed for warmth like Softelm but also the more relative safety and security of the warmer months. The molly liked her brother's companion and found her entertaining, although she wasn't very close with her herself. Chickadeewing was on the shyer side and tended to keep to herself whereas Swallowfur had always been the out-going one and the center of attention.
When Swallowfur mentioned sticking snow in nests, the molly's face looked a bit pained. She had just finished cleaning them out, and the warrior's really needed dry nests, but if it would keep Swallowfur entertained... Chickadeewing wished that her brother had stuck with his original plan, no matter how destructive, after they agreed to Softelm's proposition of exploring. Her black and white spotted paws shuffled before her, and she glanced hesitantly between Swallowfur and Softelm. Oh dear... She forced a weak smile and took a slow step after her brother, swallowing hard. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. She would never have accompanied under different circumstances, but she felt at least someone with some tact for safety should be with the reckless pair. "Yeah, uh, okay. Let's do it..." The she-cat responded, quiet and unenthusiastic, her voice laced with poorly disguised worry.

Moosepelt was mostly silent on the trek towards Antler Meadow. He had his shaggy head down against the wind, trudging at a slower pace than his companions, so he had fallen a little bit behind Hawkswoop and his sister. His paws stirred up the drifts of snow bordering the path that had been walked by Dimheart's patrol earlier, nad he tried to keep to the trail their pawprints had left behind.
The tabby tom picked up his pace as he heard the patrol's conversation ahead of him through the wind and watched Fawnspirit's pace quicken, wanting to catch up to the she-cat. The tom liked that he saw the spark back in Fawnspirit's eyes on this patrol--he knew his sister didn't fare well with boredom, however the patrol had opened up a pit of worry in the bottom of his stomach. "Hey, Fawnspirit," He called from his position still behind her, breath sending billowing clouds into the air. "You feelin' okay about this patrol? Just... hunting in the storm at all, do you think it was a good idea?' His gaze drifted to Hawkswoop and he eyes the tom warily, wondering if he could hear the conversation over the wind. Moosepelt wasn't sure how he would respond to his skepticism and didn't think he wanted to find out on one of his patrols.

Blackpaw had admittedly, for the first time in a long time, accidentally slept in late. The little medicine cat apprentice awoke suddenly and with a start, up on all fours in her nest and black coat bristling. She looked around the dim cavern, orange eyes narrowed against the harshness of the light. Having heard her name called, the molly had immediately assumed it had been her mentor, Silverbirch, on his way in to scold her for still being asleep, but the silver tabby was nowhere in sight.
Confused, the she-cat poked her head out of her sleeping quarters into the separate cavern that made up the treatment quarters of the medicine den. She saw her sister Cinderpaw there, near the entrance, looking like she had just tumbled in at full speed. Oh, Starclan... Blackpaw thought, hanging her head and looking defeated. The molly loved the little apprentice, she truly did but... oh, if Silverbirch caught her slacking off, or distracted.... no, this wouldn't do. "Cinderpaw?" Blackpaw hissed softy, a quizzical whisper. "What are you doing in here?"

Houndshadow
Perhaps it came with seasons of experience, or maybe he was just a natural at detecting when the youth of the Clan was up to mischief, but Houndshadow had been able to see from the very beginning what the two young mollies had been up to. There was no doubt in his mind that they had been heading outside of camp, and while he didn’t exactly like meddling in the business of other cats, he was glad he had showed up when he had lest the two apprentices would have gotten themselves in a pit of trouble.
Even still he was not angry or disappointed. In fact, he found himself rather amused. He couldn’t fault the two. After all, they were young, and with youth came the desire to prove worth and to get rid of excess energy. Houndshadow had been their age once, and while he had always been the good natured and reserved tom he was now, he had had his moments in which inexperience and rashness took over rational thoughts.
After a moment of listening to Juniperpaw, the tomcat gave a nod. He glanced toward the exit of camp, worry ever so slowly creeping into his expression, jaw set and stance rigid in the slightest of ways. ”The patrols will return successful, I’m sure of it. Grizzlystar sent out fine and capable warriors.” That worry then morphed into playful amusement as he glanced down at both Juiperpaw and Racoonpaw. Now wasn’t the time to worry, and he didn’t want to ruin the mood for the two as it was. ”Though he did forget all about his two finest warriors in the Clan, now didn’t he? I guess he wanted to give some other warriors a chance to prove themselves.” He chuckled, meaning the two mollies that stood in front of him currently.

A long, low groan had threatened to escape from the she-cat, but Blackpaw swallowed it for the sake of sparing Cinderpaw's feelings. The medicine apprentice had always been... touched by her little sister's desire to be close to her, although unfortunately it was not in Blackpaw's nature to feel the same. Conjuring up a weak smile, Blackpaw approached Cinderpaw and draped her thin tail across her shoulders. "That's a very sweet offer, Cinderpaw, and I'd love to chat if I had the time, but you can't just barrel in here whenever you please. What if Silverbirch had been in here?" the molly scolded softly, clicking her tongue. "I know you want to help, but my work is serious. It takes seasons of training to know how to do things properly, so I'm sorry, but I can't just let you help."

Fawnspirit Antler Meadow - - - - - Huffing in the cold air, Fawnspirit trudged after Hawkscoop. Her amber eyes flickered around the snow covered territory. If it was not for the wind and their current mission, she would have loved to stop and frolicked in the snow. In a different time, Moosepelt would have probably joined her and they would have fun. Walking through the deep snow with biting wind, it brought Fawnspirit back to reality, they had other responsibilities.
Hearing uttered words behind her, Fawnspirit slowed down her steps instinctively so that Moosepelt could walk besides her. She absently brushed her fur against her brothers. She twitched her ears as she followed Hawkscoop's paws steps, looking down at the snow blowing across the surface, it would cover everything soon. She mulled over what her brother had just asked her. "Yes," she confessed and remained silent for few more tail-lengths of walking before speaking once again, "The conditions out here? I am worried about finding prey... and our path is disappearing," Fawnspirit meowed, glancing over her shoulder. Their paw-steps were slowly starting to disappear. She had faith in their ability but it was hard to scent the air with the wind. Everything seemed chaotic.

Houndshadow
Houndshadow could easily share Juniperpaw's sentiments. He knew he shared her thoughts on the matter. Every cat seemed to be itching to get out and do something, but the harsh conditions outside were putting a halt to anything a Clan cat could be doing. It was a miracle that Grizzlystar had even allowed one patrol to go out, let alone two. Houndshadow had to admit he found the idea for patrols in this weather a bit...brash, but he wouldn't step out of line and say he knew what was best for the Clan. Grizzlystar was the leader for a reason, not Houndshadow himself. Besides, the Clan did need prey, and sitting around in camp wasn't going to get that done.
For a moment there the black tomcat sat in thought. He went over a few ideas in his mind before eyeing both Juniperpaw and Raccoonpaw. A small smile pulled at his muzzle. "I know it won't be anything like actual training, but how would you two feel about some mock hunting practice? Or maybe battle practice? We can't do much about prey right now, but there are a few open areas in camp that might give us enough room for a training session." A wave of amusement then passed through him as he added, "It's that or cleaning out dens if you're truly desperate to get your paws moving." Swallowfur
For any other cat he wouldn't have stopped. He wouldn't have slowed down his pace for the sake of any other cat except for his littermate. Swallowfur knew she was a worrier. He knew she didn't like doing all the impulsive and reckless things that he did, but she went along with them anyway - most of them, at least. Chickadeewing went against her very nature time and time again for the sake of Swallowfur. It was admirable, really. What cat would push outside of their comfort zone multiple times just to keep their littermate happy? Maybe it was time for Swallowfur to think about the consequences of all that. Maybe it was time for him to take a moment to actually think, or at least think about what this meant for his sister. She was the one cat he cared and loved for beyond any other, and even if he was reckless and impulsive and a downright mouse-brain, he still had a conscious, and sometimes it did speak to him despite popular belief.
Stopping to stand in place, Swallowfur looked his sister over with concern in his green gaze. There was a softness in his features that was reserved for his sister alone. Had this been any other cat and he would have kept going deeper into the caves, but this was Chickadeewing. And it was time for him to step up and be a good brother to her just as much as she was a good sister to him.
He retraced his steps until he was at Chickadeewing's side. He leaned forward and nudged her softly. "You don't have to come along," he murmured, more for her to hear than Softelm. "Me and Softelm will be safe on our own. I know you worry, but I'd rather you think about yourself than constantly thinking about us." It seemed only fair to him that his sister get to put herself first for once. It was only fair. She deserved that, and if she wasn't going to give it to herself then Swallowfur would give it to her instead.

Coldfeather / Applepaw ✨ nissabug ✨ / Bravepaw Blaze ♡ / Mossypaw 𝑓𝑜𝑥
As the apprentices greeted her, it amused the warrior ever so slightly to watch them sustain their attitudes towards one another, passing comments and glares. She maintained an unfazed expression and waited patiently for them to verbally decide on an answer to her provocative question. She was careful to distribute her gaze evenly between them, she knew even a moment lingering on Mossypaw would fill the tom's head even further with overconfidence, something which, in her own personal opinion, the tom needed scant more of.
"Follow me and I'll explain our plan," she promised them, turning and padding ahead to a clearer space away from the fresh-kill pile and camp centre. Over her shoulder, she explained, "We're going to focus on uneven odds," she meowed. Coldfeather hoped this would be a change from their regular drills of simple strikes and twists, as well as building their cleverness in strategy when fighting wasn't exactly as it appears in training. "To start with, Applepaw and Bravepaw, work together. You'll be mastering partner fighting. Mossypaw, you'll be learning about the danger of being outnumbered." She wanted to trust Applepaw with a fellow apprentice who wasn't likely to forsake her for his own protection, and Bravepaw, of course, always fought fair. As well, she wanted to challenge Mossypaw to the fullest extent, and secretly hoped his ego could aid him in confidence in a training situation more difficult than anything yet.
"And we will be fighting fairly," she asserted as a direct acknowledgement of her apprentice's earlier comment against his brother. "A warrior has very little if he cannot have trust between his clanmates. Now then," she finished as they arrived at a wide enough space for their practice. "Applepaw and Bravepaw, attempt your attack first. Mossypaw, try and keep from getting surrounded. It sounds obvious," she told her apprentice, praying he would listen, "But remember- there are two opponents to keep in mind."
